question about antutu and clock speed - G3 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi,
i've got an international D855 here. i've tweaked it a lot.
it's overclocked to 2.8ghz (777jon's kernel), and running ressurection remix rom.
i also increased thermal throttling not to act up until 80 degrees celcius.
i use synapse to change kernel settings and core clocks.
i use "cpu temperature" app to monitor everything about my cpu. including clock speed.
when i go ahead and set the minimum speed to 2.8 and the maximum to 2.8, and enable all cores and enable all cores to have boost at the same time. it works for everything.
but when i start antutu, and do a benchmark. "cpu temperature" tells me that while the benchmark was active, the clock speed ramps down for a short moment of the benchmark. but the temperature never got above 65 degrees celcius.
i cannot acces the 3845#*855# code for some reason. if i try to dial that in, and press call. nothing happens. so i cannot deactivate thermal throttling that way.
so my problem here is. i've locked the cpu clock to the maximum. i've also locked the gpu clock to maximum. it all works outside antutu. but when i start an antutu benchmark, halfway through it, the clock speed decreases. and that's weird because i've locked the clock speed, and thermal throttling shouldn't already act up.
can anyone help me with the issue of the clock speed going down?
if i need to give more information, ask please. i'm new to xda. so i'm also sorry if this is in the wrong forum

[Q]Did any of you use SETCPU/ CPU tuner on Play? what is the best setting

I bet there are some of you use either the setCPU or CPU tuner on your play..
I heard it will help save some valuable juice...
I tried setCPU/CPU tuner and i think the default setting have reduce the performance when batt go before 50% or temp over certain temperature, I get annoy when i trying to fight on a 3d game...
so I really hope any expert here can advise which is the best setCPu you have used on play, for a reference for me...
beside setCPU, i like CPU tuner for the ability to toggle 3g/2g when batt is low.. so if anyone using CPU tuner instead, please share your setting for your PLAY...
heres the profiles i have on mine, in order (setcpu)gives me tripple the battery life.
ScreenOff - max 368640, min 122880
Charging - max 1024000, min 122880
Battery <10% max 368640, min 122880
Battery <35% max 768000, min 122880
scaling is OnDemand for all of them!
looks simple... but just wonder, when it move to 368... on screen off, will it automatically switch back to 1024... when we turn on the screen?
yeah. unless its below 35% or 10%
been trying out for 1 day, havnt see much improvement, but does see the batt last longer in 20% below...
i think I will try to mimic this setting to CPU tuner, which can turn off 3G somemore on extreme batt save setting, it might help more tho..
Any new tests given to improve battery life? My xperia play is rooted and am hoping that someone out there has found the best settings\profiles to use.
Please post it here. Many thanks
Anyone else use this or a similar program, if so do you get good results ?.

I noticed an improved battery usage after using 245 max/122 min (Powersave scaling) on Screen Off and then 1024 max/122 min (Ondemand scaling) as normal.
That combined with stopping all unnecessary services seems to work great so far (although I'm still looking for alternatives to improve things).
lagfree governor on main, min 122Mhz and 1.6Ghz on max
powersave governor, 122mhz min and max, screen off profile
performance governor, 600mhz max, 122 mhz min, on call profile
all priorities set on 100, using SETCPU
Except when gaming, I have it set to 768 conservative governor, stock ROM.
Also, I have screen off set to 245 max 122 min with powersave governor.
Edit/update: for some weird reason my battery life actually decreased when using setcpu, no matter how it was set. I've now disabled it, and the battery life went back to how it was before. Weird.

[Q] System Tuner and Governor settings

Hi,
I'm a little confused about the cpu tweaks in system tuner. I'm running Bullet v2.9b. What is the difference between the different governor settings? Also, when I change the cpu clock speeds, it keeps resetting to the default settings.
I had this same issue with system tuner. Try another CPU apparently from the market. The governors tell the CPU how fast to ramp up. Conservative is the best for battery life. Performance is the worst. On demand is a middle ground for battery and speed.

Did you ever sort out the System Tuner CPU tweak issue? I'm having the same or a similar problem. I set the freqs to 384-1.6 (whatever) and go away (home or back...). When I return to ST, seconds later, the CPU setting is 1.6-1.6. This happens almost all the time. It does not happen with SetCPU. I'd prefer to use ST, but not with this weirdness.
(I'm using faux-u009 with the standard KL1 ROM.)
Thanks for any help.
CPU Settings
Hi,
I'm using Jugg 4.1 with the bullet kernel. I was wondering what are some normal settings for the CPU when using system tuner. It seems like the first setting is +1 ghz while the second is in the 300-400 mhz range. Any help would be much appreciated.
@disguy03 - Your settings of 384MHz - 1GHz CPU are exactly what I'm using--that, and the Ondemand governor--and I haven't had any problems. If anything, since your CPU is underclocked at its highest, to ~1GHz, your battery will love you for it.
I hope that helps you in some way!
I have noticed the same behaviour, with system tuner. I believe it is a display issue. If you look at the times they will still show the lower ones. At least that is what I see.
its a graphical glitch...if you leave the CPU tab and come back it reverts to the proper view but will work properly as long as you have it set to either run from intuit.d or change after boot.

Is it normal that quick system info reports my cpu clock is at 1.4ghz instead of 1.5?

Hi. I have a rooted HTC One X international version with the quad core processor supposedly. 1.5ghz but when i checked quick system info it says my cpu clock is only running at 1.4ghz. I have set cpu installed and i have ensured that ive set the min and max to 1.5ghz but still it remains at 1.4ghz. I dont know if it was like this before i rooted my device or before i installed setcpu, or if this is just the way its supposed to be. Please advice.
If ever this is unusual, could someone tell me how to fix it? Should i reflash the kernel or bootloader?
Thanks in advance for ur help.

i tried it and the cpu range shows as 51 to 1500 no probs.
try cpu spy, then run a bench mark service, then go back to cpu spy and check if it reached 1500ghz
Oh, sorry if I got misunderstood. Setting the range is NOT the problem. I can set it just fine, and the profiles work well too. It's just that if I set the min and max to 1500mhz, the ACTUAL cpu clock (the large number on top of the min and max sliders) remains at 1400. When I lower/change the min max, the frequency lowers/changes accordingly. But, as I mentioned, the max ACTUAL cpu frequency remains at 1400mhz even though the sliders are already set to 1500mhz.
So, I want to know if that's normal. I read from somewhere that the maximum frequency for multi-core is 1400mhz and the maximum frequency for single core is 1500mhz. But I'm not sure though so I want to verify that information.
Thanks!

[Q] CPU throttling apps still needed after JB "butter"?

I was previously using a CPU throttling app (CPU tuner) with ICS to help conserve battery.
I'm wondering if this is needed anymore now that I have JB (Frosty)? I've read that JB features "butter", which appears to basically be CPU speed management.
So if the OS is now handling CPU speed management, is there any point to installing a separate app to do the same thing? Might the separate app actually conflict with "butter" and actually conflict with the user experience that the "butter" improvements are supposed to provide?
Even without the CPU tuner app installed, I can see that the CPU speed is being managed when I look at the usage history with CPU Spy. Over the past 12 hours or so it shows 6% at 1512 MHz at 6%, 1% at 918 Mhz, 25% at 384 MHz and 65% in "Deep Sleep".
That seems pretty reasonable to me.
Anyone have any thoughts on this?

Perseus Kernel

ok. Figured out why perseus kernel ran like poo on my device. I noticed on all my 3d games and sometimes on my browser, there would be be occasional stutter or a slighr but noticeable fps drop leading to a jerky stutter performance. even on the tw launcher I would see it here and there. luckily this awesome device has split screen. So I was able to observe the cpu LIVE as it scales. I ran tons of benchmarks and observed the culprit. While the phone is pushing polygons the cpu down scales to fast and way to much. it would bounce from 1.8ghz to 600mhz constantly. When this aggressive down scale happens then you see the stutter. At least I do. So... Here's the fix. Open Stweaks and on CPU SCALING scroll down to FREQUENCY FOR RESPONSIVENESS. Set that to 1.2ghz or above. Done. enjoy your stuttering free performance. Will this impact your battery? Not much. It just keeps the cpu fast when it needs the power. Once you let go of touching the screen then it scale down to below 1.4ghz.
I think your "fix" may work but I don't think it is optimal. See Andrielux's original N7100 thread and you will see that he recommends keeping this parameter no higher than 600mhz because it causes issues above that. I think there are more direct parameters that can be changed regarding down scaling to fix your issue. You should post this on his thread to get his input as he is quite wise.

yup. I kept an eye on it all day yesterday and with cpuspy I noticed my device was hanging allot of time at 1.2. makes sense. I'll play with it more today.
found a better setting change on stweak! You can leave everything on stweak at default and may change........
under CPU SCALING go to UP THRESHOLD AT FAST-DOWN and set that to 25%. Default is 95. Now using cpuspy I see all the clocks being used healthier compared to before where 1.2ghz was hogging up more. And the studder is gone. This makes the cpu hold 1.8. steady and not down scale when using 3d . try it and you will thank me.
Okay I can confirm it now. This is a good fix for the stuttering. my battery has not taken a hit at all. And it runs smooth. And to boot I'm getting a quadrant score on the 7600. this is the change.
under cpu scaling I changed UP THRESHOLD to 70%. UP THRESHOLD AT FAST DOWN to 20%. Under GPU I changed GPU MAX FREQUENCY to 800mhz. And it's UP THRESHOLD to 80%. Everything else is at stock. Now play with the voltage of the cpu to the lowest possible voltages. And you will be thankful.
