Android 5.1, all outgoing calls made through Google Voice show as unknown in the call log, even though all contacts are under people. I have a butterlfy 901e , but android version is 5.0 and it does not have this issue
have the same problem android 5.1
Same problem here! And regardless of the firmware - be it stock or alternative - it's the same behaviour!

In leu of the newly released Hangouts app with Google Voice integration and Hangouts Dialer release, I downloaded and tried out the new Hangouts Dialer just now. It's awesome! However, I'm noticing that if someone calls my standard number or my Google Voice number the stock LG dialer intercepts the call and makes me answer it through the stock interface.
So now I want to permanently disable the stock LG dialer apps safely. I used Titanium Backup to freeze the "Answer Me" app but the calls still come through the stock dialer. Anyone know what else is required to freeze/uninstall to get this to go away?
EDIT 1:
I partially figured it out. In order to freeze the stock dialer app from intercepting calls to your Google Voice number, freeze the following 3 apps...
Answer Me 2.0.0
Phone 4.8.24 (VOICEMAIL)
Phone/Messaging Storage 3.5.16 (SMS/MMS/APN)
This solves the issue for your Google Voice number or if you've forwarded your standard number to your Google Voice number. However, if you don't have your standard number forwarded to your Google Voice number, calls to your standard number will still come through the stock dialer for some reason...
EDIT 2:
I also noticed that if you click on a phone number in the phone's browser (Chrome in my case) or Google Maps, it still opens the phone number in the LG dialer app, even though the app is disabled. So to make a call in Hangouts you need to copy the number then paste it into the Google Dialer. This obviously isn't a great solution by any means. Hopefully we can figure out a way to make the Hangouts dialer act as the stock dialer across everything within the phone.

Yeah, it's obnoxious. It's got me missing the AOSP ROMs on my Nexus phones. With AOSP you can just set the Hangouts Dialr as the default phone app and call it a day.
My understanding is if you stop forwarding your number to your cell phone on the Google voice website, it will stop ringing your cell number and the only ring will be Hangouts. You may find you also need to remove the now largely uneeded google voice ap, it conflicts with hangouts... NOTE: if you do this, you will not receive GV calls if you do not have a good data connection. You also wan't dial out on GV if you don't have a data connection. Since they aren't going to your cell number anymore.
Lollipop update for the HTC M8 which was pushed by sprint breaks previous google voice functionality. When I dial out using google voice to call a number, the call history shows the google number instead of the the number I am calling. This was NOT the case before the lollipop update. There is no way to know which clients I have called now when I look at my call history because all I see is the google phone number.
Who's at fault here google voice or HTC?
I have a 2013 Nexus 7 (Flo) that I'd like to turn into a WiFi phone. I have a phone number with Google Voice and turned off all call forwarding. There's no option in the Hangouts settings on the tablet to receive incoming calls. I suspect this is because there's no dialer or sms app in the system rom. I can make calls from the tablet just fine.
The device is unlocked and rooted running lollipop 5.1.1. I already installed Hangouts Dialer and Google Voice.
I discovered a way to get the options to receive alerts for incoming calls. Install a SIP program like SIPDroid. Once it's installed, go back into Hangouts and turn on the option. You can even uninstall SIPDroid afterwards.
Hello again,
I'm tired to ask for support team to help me in this case. My moto 360 doesn't show who is calling me, just show "Private Number" instead. Before upgrade to marshmallow was working, but with a previous version of the Wear app (1.0.5.1785466). After the update this version wasn't showing any notification on incoming calls, so I downloaded the latest version of Wear app. So now is showing the notification but always from a "Private Number". Help, please!?
Thanks again
Hello all! Two weeks ago I updated to the most recent version of Google Hangouts (v20.XXX). I also have been using Google Voice with my GV # in conjunction with Hangouts on android 7.0 for several months. Last week, however, I updated my Xperia Z5 premium dual via OTA to 7.1.1 while on a business trip to another part of the U.S. Immediately, I could no longer make a voice call. Though I had GV setup to always use my GV # for calls, now each call attempted presented me with a splashscreen option to use the carrier # or my GV #, and no matter which I chose switched to the Hangouts Dialer to complete the call. However, when I attempted to make the call then (by touching dialer button), a splashcreen opened saying that I can't join a call already in process, and offering to either "Close the Program" (Hangouts Dialer) or "Cancel". Cancelling brings you to the Dialer with the call supposedly in process, but never connecting to the recipient. In Safe Boot, the phone didn't have access to Hangouts, and was successful in making voice calls. I tried reversing updates to Hangouts, clearing cache and data, all without success. I finally had to simply disable Hangouts and uninstall Hangouts Dialer, and now my calls are completed normally. Since everything with my setup was working prior to 7.1.1 just fine, I have to think that there is a problem between the latest version of Hangouts and/or Hangouts Dialer and android 7.1.1 (or perhaps Sony's version of 7.1.1 for our phone). Please let me know if my experience helps anyone else, or if you've also had this problem.
