Phone will not power off the USB after charging - goes flat - Desire Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi, I've just got a Desire secondhand. I charged the battery then used it to run GPS. The LED goes green to say it is charged and the phone stops charging. Then the phone seems to power from the battery only which then goes flat until the point where the phone shuts down. (No good when in the car!) I could attach and re-attach the charger to stop it from shutting down and to force a charge but the point is I should not have to. The phone should take its power from the USB once the battery is charged and not run the battery down!>?!
Is this normal behaviour or has the phone a fault? Its running Android 2.2 stock and I can't find any battery settings at all on the phone so I can't see if it is software related.
Can anyone please advise?

[Q] Continuous reset after battery drained to 0%?

I let my phone's battery run out to zero. Then let it sit for a few days, I'm on vacation and I don't need my phone. Now, I am recharging my phone, but something strange happens. The phone is off, and the amber light shows that the battery is charging. After a few minutes, the phone turns itself on and the amber light goes off. The battery does not have enough juice to complete startup, and the phone dies halfway through boot. The battery then begins charging, phone turns on, etc. It's been doing this for several hours now. I can't turn the phone off while it's booting, as the OS to control the keys is not yet working. Any help, I've no idea!
5 minutes in charge should give you about 7-8% battery, enough to get it up and use it for 5 min or so. Sounds like you have a dead battery.
Hmm...doesn't seem possible, the phone is only 2 months old! I'll keep it connected and see what happens. Any idea why the phone turns itself on when not commanded? The problem isn't really the battery, the problem is that the phone won't stay off long enough to recharge fully.
Somebody else posted a thread with what sounds like the same problem -- just a few lines below yours. And devis posted the same answer there -- which sounds like the right answer.
If you have access to -- or go buy -- a new battery, that would be the thing to try.
I'm not a battery expert, but I think it's not a good idea to let the battery -- any Lithium battery -- go down to zero-dead. (That is, you should turn it off or charge it up when it drops below 10%-ish.) That could explain how a 2-month-old battery could die (if it is dead).
Assume you're trying to charge the phone with the AC-wall charger, not connected to the USB port on a computer?
If you can't turn off the phone to keep it from rebooting, I suggest you take out the battery, put it back in and let it charge for a few hours. I would just be careful to not accidentally turn on the phone. Hopefully this will bring your phone back. I read on another thread that if the battery drains completely, it may need to charge for a reasonable amount of time before you can boot it back up.
happens to me whenever i dont notice my battery draining to 0%..
it dies, and i try to turn it on.. turns on, then dies on boot.. plug in charger, and it goes through an endless cycle of turn on and die on boot.
take the battery out and put it back in, but don't push the power button. let it charge for 10-15 mins to let it get enough juice to boot all the way.. then continue charging it
This will also happen when the charger is not putting out enough power such as via usb cable. Make sure the phone is off and use an AC charger if you can.
For the archives, the problem was that the USB port on my computer went bad. I plugged it in to another computer and the phone charged normally. Now I have a broken USB to repair...on a laptop. Should be fun...

If you have the AC wall charger that works better anyway. Some USB ports of some laptops won't work at all -- not because they're broken but because they don't put out enough power -- by design.

[Resolved] Empty desire not charging (no LED, no power on)

Hi,
last night my Desire ran out of juice, and when i woke up it was empty.
So this morning i turned it on, entered my PIN and immediatly plugged it.
When i came back later, it was not running anymore. The LED isn't green as usual, and i can't turn it on.
It charges for several hours now, and nothing happen. I tried pulling of the battery, nothing at all.
I'm running Oxygen 2.0 RC7 (Android 2.3.2) for weeks without any problems.
tl;dr : phone not charging, no led at all. plz help.
Thx in advance for your answers !
EDIT : the phone rebooted without SIM and SD cards. Weird.
I just faced the same problem. I woke up to see the battery was compelety drained and the phone was off. I plug in the charger but the led doesn't turn on. How did you resolve this? How did you manage to reboot the device?
In my case, the phone was on with the charger plugged in but battery icon is red and empty. I reboot and clear battery stat in clockworkmod, reboot and all's well again...
Resolved
Well, in my case I had drained the battery completely. The phone neither would turn on nor would charge after the battery was drained overnight. I checked that there was about 3V in all cells of the battery.
In such case, pull out the battery and plug in your charger and you can see the led flash in all colors. This will make sure that the problem is with the drained battery and not the phone. Leave the charger plugged in for about 10-15 mins without the battery. Then put the battery back on and charge your phone, it should start charging and you will be able to see the red led. Now, let it charge till till your battery is fully charged.
i also have the problem that the phone want charge
when i insert the charger (with removed battery) sometimes the led starts flashing and sometimes it does not
at the first time i tried your method and waited for about 10 minutes
at next i inserted the battery but the phone didnt start to charge and now the led want start flashing when i connect it to the charger
ME Too1!!!!

[Q] Galaxy Nexus i9250 problem.

Hey everyone. I have huge problem with my Galaxy Nexus i9250 for few days now.
Let me start from beggining.
First it was showing charging symbol even if it ain't plugged in. Then it stopped after I cleaned charging port.
Few weeks back there were great floods in my region (Bosnia) and we were in lack of electricity so I started to charge it on a car charger and after it's completely charged (2h) as soon as I start to use it the battery goes off really fast, example, if I use it for let's say calls or even on "stand by" after 30mins the battery goes for like 40%. That's when problems started to begin. If it was turned off becuase of lack of battery I had to turn it on by pressing "Down volume + power" for first 2 times. Then I had to remove battery for few seconds then put it back not completely but I had to press the battery against those 4 pins which conduct electricity to a cell phone and press those two buttons for like 30 seconds to turn it on. Few days ago, I had same problem, but this time it wasnt empty on battery, it was in my pocked with almost 50% of battery when I took it and I saw it was off. Tried again that same proccedure, it turned on, showed recovery menu and it turned off. Ever since I can't turn it on, it charges, but it doesn't show charging indicator on my screen. When I put my battery in other phone it shows it's fully charged. I can't turn it on, my PC won't reconize it, let's say it's dead. I don't know what's happening, so I'm asking here if anyone knows what to do. Thanks to all.
sounds like a battery + charger issue

You must verify the voltage output of the car adapter you were using with the phone , remember that the fact it has a micro USB does not mean its designed to the specs of your phone, sounds like the battery went berserk after it was charged with that car adapter ... you should not tinker more with the phone and get a new battery and the original charger for it , if you can or are able to ...

Thank you Frank. I already tought nobody will reply to this. So you think if I buy new battery and charger cell phone will start to work?
Car charger was combined, USB cable from Nokia and car adapter is for let's say every cell phone. I have original Samsung Nexus wall charger I got with that cell phone and it charges the battery it just wont turn on the phone. Either PC doesnt want to reconize it, tried with Device Manager to see if is there anything but no. Thank you again for your reply.
Still no luck! Does anyone have something to suggest?
Hmmmm .... still would go for battery malfunction !

you say it charges the battery ? if you are able to see the white icon of the battery charging when the phone is off and you connect the charger , then it's definitely the phone battery .... replace it and lets hope it works out

No, I'm unable to see battery charging indicator. But when I lick the battery you can feel the electricity. Yea, it's stupid method but it does the job. And when I put it in another phone it says it's almost full 99% to be exact. So battery... Gonna buy a new one.

Alright, i have been sailing in the same boat, my i9250 has not been charging for quite some time.
Now for all most few months the phone is charging without any problem. I suspect the Google Search application could be the reason. I uninstalled all the Google Search application update and kept it to the one come by default. Since then i am able to charge my phone without any problem. The Google search version that i have is V 2.2.9.542574.
Try it out. All the best!!

8.4 not charging while on

This isn't the usual "won't charge to full" issue i have been reading about. The tablet is not seeing power connected. Settings>Battery does not show charging. Tasker does not see power connected. HD Widgets does not show charging. Battery bar does not show charging. Ampere (app) shows discharging.
So I did a shutdown and connected power. The tablet does a thing where it shows the battery on the screen and the red & yellow kernel stuff. Then it shows the other "flat" battery icon. Then the display blanks and does all that again and again.
I did try several reboots, hot reboots, soft reboots, long pressing power reboots.
I see an increase in battery level after it is plugged in while completely shut down. Ten minutes got me 4%.
And yes, two known good power cords on two known good outlets. Verified by connecting my phone.

Sounds like a strange issue, if the battery is dead but you are using the tablet then perhaps it is getting power since usually it will shutdown when battery level is past a certain percent (unless it is plugged in), so if that is the case there might be a few things to try
first try to hook it up to your pc see if it detects the tablet (just to make sure the usb port on the tablet is working properly) if so then that's a good sign.
if the usb port is working correctly it could be the wire connector on the actual battery inside the tablet it might have just come loose since it's just a simple press down clip that holds it inplace and a drop or other hard hit could cause it to dislodge, see the thread on how to open the tablet if you want to check, or if it is still under warranty it might be better to send it to samsung if you are uncomfortable opening the tablet yourself
http://forum.xda-developers.com/gal...eseating-battery-wonder-battery-life-t2944610
Now if the usb port is not working or it's not even keeping the tablet powered on it could be anything from a failed charging mechanism, broken usb port, ...etc and probably only Samsung service center can fix it.
The battery is about 75% now… powered off until I can get more info. I am using genuine Sammy chargers and they still connect snugly. Note that it does charge when powered off.
So after an extended power off period I rebooted and charging is normal again. Still considering checking the battery connection. It has always charged slower than I would expect.

Tab Pro 8.4 stuck in logo screen/battery loading screen

Hey folks,
I did not use my tab for several months (it was working before), now when I plug it into the charger (either usb or wall socket) it either hangs in a flashing screen sensation of the Samsung galaxy tab pro screen or at the battery screen while this one is just with a loading icon, it does not really charge.
As soon as I unplug the cable it shuts off. I cannot boot into recovery mode, it just hangs there. I can boot into download mode however and I re-installed root and twrp recovery via Odin, however this did not help.
Any other suggestions please?
Appreciate the help.
Plug it into the wall. Leave it plugged into the charger. Hold the power button down for up to 2 minutes. See how it goes!
No change, just keeps rebooting.

When you didn't use the tablet for those several months did you keep it running or did you use the power off option, if you left it running then it probably shut it-self down when battery got low, then the extra time left probably completely depleted the battery causing irreversible damage to the battery (lithium-ion batterys aren't made to deplete to 0 volts it will ruin them), the proper way to store a battery device is to fully charge it then power off the device and it should store for up to a year fine.
sometimes you can give the battery a boost, or maybe the samsung charger blew out, first try another 2+ amp charger and a new cable.
or you can even try your pc usb port connect it for about 10-15 minutes (sometimes the low 500mA current is good to revive completely dead batteries though keep the screen off), see if you can get any voltage back into the battery and if it starts holding a charge, then switch to a proper charger.
if the battery is under 3v the tablet is designed to shut off to protect the battery so if the voltage is less then that it might take some tinkering to get the voltage above that threshold to keep the tablet running.

I'd guess it was left off without powering it down.
When I plug it into the PC via USB or into a power socket I just see the 'Samsung Galaxy Tab Pro SM-T320' log and it is flashing continuously.
RMA? I can get into download mode, but how does that help me? Knox warranty void shows 0x1 - it's voided, correct?
Anyone?
hello
