Need help with installing Android 5.1 - G3 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi there.
I have an LG G3 (D855) on Android 5.0. But its a good phone bogged down by slow updates by LG.
I want to enjoy & experience 5.1 like the G4 but i'm not an expert in rooting or flashing ROMs. And i heard you can only update using a Windows computer and not Mac. is this true?
Please help. Thanks.

Actually, you can use a mac to do this.
You will need to install windows on virtual box, vmware, etc..
If you have other question, don't hesitate.

Why would you need to have windows? Do you use a flashtool for this rom?
I've always flashed with mac, I don't like flashtools... Just flash a custom recovery with fastboot and you're good to go?

Many thanks.

[Q] Cannot update to Lollipop

Hello everybody!
I have come here in an attempt to see if someone knows a better way to upgrade me to Lollipop. First of all, I am on stock rooted Android 4.4.4 with TWRP. The reason I went stock rooted, was because I wanted to wait for CM12 to mature and iron out all of the bugs. Well, that is taking longer than I expected, and now I just want to have stock Lollipop at the least. Here is what I am having problems with.
I currently do not own a windows, mac, or linux pc device. I exclusively use Chrome OS in my home and I don't plan on changing that. I have thought about dual booting with linux/ubuntu, but I really don't feel like doing that until I feel that I am ready. Secondly, I have TWRP, which means I cannot accept the OTA Lollipop. I thought about installing the stock recovery, but it appears that I need to have ODIN to flash it, and well, ODIN doesn't run on Chrome OS and mobileODIN is not supported for the GN4. All the Lollipop ROMs that I have read, require stock Lollipop to run smoothly without any issues.
Since I do not have any of the options available, am I just screwed...or does somebody know some black market magic that they can offer? Well, thank you in advance for reading and responding. I appreciate all the help I can get.

Load all the stuff you need on a stick and do it at work. Only take about 20 minutes. Load the Stock ROM, HTC Drivers/sync, and then Odin on a stick.
The easiest idea that I believe is an option for you is to take your phone to Best Buy Samsung Experience store or Sprint store with tech support. Either will update it; no questions asked.
How did you root to start with? Then there's that again.
Look into Mobile Odin by Chain Fire in Google Play; it may be just what you need. Anyone find that useful and willing to share your experience?

Mobile odin does not work on note 4.
I tired taking it to the Samsung Experience at Best Buy and they told me I need to unroot first. Maybe I'll just borrow a friends computer
You might be able to uses flashify from the market and flash the stock recovery. Then try to unroot and take ota.

Root/Downgrade Tmobile LG G3 Lolipop using Ubuntu 12.04. is it possible?

Hi all,
I would like to root my LG G3 phone. It is running Android 5.0.1. I haven't been able to root it with the no PC one click root apps, nor have I found a guide for doing it with Ubuntu.
Id like to either root it, or downgrade it to 4.4.2 and root it that way, but I don't have access to a Windows computer. Just Ubuntu 12.04.
Does anyone know what i have to download and what the process would be?
Thanks!

V30e firmware: Any way to root without downgrade?

Just got a new D851 with v30e firmware. Am I correct that the only way to do this is to downgrade the firmware? And is the only way to do this using LGUP or LG Flash tool with a windows computer? I was able to root my last d851 on my linux box, but the method I used last time isn't working this time around...

I think you can't root MM or its complicated. I was in the same situation few weeks back I end up downgrade it to LP/KK root and install TWRP and flash custom rom. I post it here the guide how to do it: https://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=73314882&postcount=7
Pretty simple to do it but need a computer.

Well, simple to do if you have a windows computer. I was able to use a similar method using a windows box, but I don't think that it's possible with linux anymore (would love to hearif someone had some success though).

Unable to root G3 D855 A6WCTN

Hi guys,
I hope somebody can help me rooting my smartphone. Right now it's running with the stock Android 6.0, but I would like to install the lineageos 15.1. The problem is, I do not manage to root it!
I tried with no success the:
- purpledrake script (PurpleDrake-Lite_R03.tar.gz) (by the way, my desktop PC is running with a linux ubuntu 18.04 OS and I have a virtualbox environment as guest with WIN7 32 bit).
- towelroot apk
- LG one click root 1.3.0.0
If it's not possible to root the 6.0 Android version, can maybe anybody guide me through a solution for installing a free ROM such as lineageOS? Please go easy with the explanations, I am not very android skilled already read about "first downgrade", but if this is the only possibility I don't really understand how to do it without ending up with a brick.
Thanks in advance for any guideline
Kingroot worked for me initially, and also Towelroot at a later time (which I see you've tried), only thing is it took several attempts (10+) before either app could finally obtain root ......maybe just keep trying with either of those
