My recovery works fine. While the phone is running hold the power button until the 4 way menu appears and select "restart".
As soon as the htc screen goes off and black hold vol- until recovery appears.

Getting to recovery changed with 5.1, not sure with all variants of the M9. With mine, you hold power and volume - buttons during boot up. When you get to the screen with the triangle and exclamation point, you the hold power and volume + buttons to access recovery. It is this way by design, not a bug.

Ok, I just checked this for you. Apparently the way I told you was a first time thing after flashing the 5.1 OTA. This is how I have to do it now. Power down. Power up while holding the power and volume - buttons. This will take you the download mode screen. Use the volume buttons to highlight boot to bootloader and the power button to select. Once at the bootloader screen, you will see the boot to recovery option. Use the volume buttons to highlight and the power button to select.
I have the same problem. Branding Vodafone Germany.
When I select the point recovery in the bootloader, just comes the white android window, then longer a black screen, then the triangle with the exclamation mark. After about 2 minutes to start the yes there automatically.
When you get to the screen with the triangle and exclamation mark, hold the power button down and quickly press and release the volume + button.
Works!

I did not say volume down. I said at the screen with the triangle and exclamation point, press and hold the power button and press and release the "volume +" button. That is volume up. Forget about recovery for a moment. Does your phone boot up normally to the operating system?

So I used ROM Manger to go to recovery, then wiped. then install update.zip, which was cynanogen 7. then it installed only for some 20 secs. then my phone now keeps on boot looping only until motorola logo.
I removed battery, pressed volume down and power, then the phone went to triangle with exclamation mark and android, then here is the problem, i tried to press volume up and volume down: 1) at once quickly, 2) together hold 3) one at time, but no luck, a nothing happened, still stuck with the triangle.
looking for your advises, thanks in advance.
for got to mention, when i try "volume up + power" it goes boot load and as i have mention above when i press "volume down + power" it goes to triagle with android,
so im sure the three buttons are working.
is there a special speed on pressing the volume up and volume down button?
thanks.
i dont think theres a speed/time for pressing the buttons, so thats not the problem. do you have clockworkmod or any custom recovery on your phone, or just the stock?
Sent from my superfast CM7 Defy.
it is stock rom 2.1, but i have it rooted and installed ROM Manger and the Clockwork Mod for Defy installed. On the clockwork i chose "normal boot"
what other boot options do you have?

If you are on 2.1, to access the stock boot menu you press the bottom right corner of the screen. From 2.2 up they changed it to pressing volume up/down at the same time (basically, pressing in the middle of the volume button).

yea, it because he did the wrong way. I have done it several times, I'm on miui right now with 2nd init installed, and when I reboot to stock recovery, I got green robot with triangle like him, BUT (still in that mode) I press the volume up and down at the same time (it's like pressing in the middle of volume button between up and down) for a few second. Then you will enter stock recovery. Try it
"1) at once quickly, 2) together hold" he tried everything, it's in the first post!

its WORKs..

Is there any way to factory reset from bootloader?
Turn on the phone while pressing volume up + home button + power button and hold these down till an icon appears. Then recovery will open and from there you can factory reset.

Ok i enter the recovery but it stays on the green android with box and then nothing the options for factory reset wont appear! Please help me!
Just hold these while turning on the phone, release the keys when the android with the box appear and a menu should appear. Volume up and down for moving in the menus and home button for selecting options. I don't know why the menu doesn't show up... Did you release those keys, or did you flash another recovery?

I dont know why but it just stays in android with the box, with no menu or options. I flashed another firmware but no recovery.

After all, this is your friends phone right????
And he or his cousin or you don't know pattern, or google password/username??
Yeah right....get up the yard!!!
I am trying to tell that the recovery doesnt work. It doesn't show the options to factory reset the phone. It only shows the green android with the box. When i press the menu button it says that it is updating a file and then it is rebooting automatically. I can not see any options or something. As i said, he only use the google account to download apps from market and he has forgotten the password of the google account.

When you say it "updates" when you go into recovery do you 1) let go of power button when samsung logo first appears or 2) hold onto power button until the phone shows samsung logo, then goes blank and then let go of power when samsung logo appears second time? If 1 then hold onto power longer until you see the logo twice. If 2 then i dont know. But still...im sure that you should be able to skip the google setup...cant you?

Hold power button until you see the "galaxy s" sign (galaxy w or whatever phone...its the same...i just thought the s was a good example) and soon after you see that it should reboot. Keep hold of power. Then when the samsung logo appears let go but do not let go of home and volume up. Then when you see a android sign let go of the buttons and press menu. It should be recovery.

for download mode, it depends on the phone. The SGH-T989 is both volume buttons and power. The SGH-T989D is volume down and power. Or you can get a USB dongle that can do it for you (bridges 2 pins... I think it is pin 4 and 5, but I could be wrong).
OR if you can get it into any mode, you can use adb to get into download mode I believe by running "adb reboot download"

If phone is booting the rom that far and crashing on an app, I'd suggest to just boot into recovery and Wipe Cache & Dalvik Cache and reboot to see if is fixes issue, or try a Factory Reset in recovery.
To boot into recovery: Power off the phone and hold Vol Up and Down and Power.
Let go of Power once it vibrates, keep both Vol pressed until you're in recovery.

If no luck, then I'd just flash another rom from recovery, make sure you have the right recovery version based on rom you flash, if your recovery is TWRP, use 2.6.1.0 for any JB 4.3 based rom, and most will suggest to use 2.6.0.0 or 2.5.0.0 for older JB 4.2.2 or 4.1.2 etc.

Stuck at "Recovery is not seandroid enforcing", can't boot into download mode.
I have a Samsung Galaxy Tab S SM-T700.
Was following "Samsung Galaxy Tab Pro 8.4 TWRP Recovery install super easy" on youtube trying to get TWRP installed. I found some guides online that said they can fix the issue, but they seem to require booting into download mode which I can't do.
Any suggestions? Thanks!

Doesn't matter what state the device is in now simply hold POWER + HOME + VOL DOWN until the tablet restarts and DOWNLOAD mode appears.
Please don't post back saying this does not work as I guarantee it does if you do it correctly.
You have only flashed the wrong recovery there is no reason why you can't boot to Download mode.
Once in download mode flash the correct twrp or firmware.

Incorrect on both accounts.
I've recovered many devices and have bricked god knows how many times while developing.
If the device boots it's not bricked and considering he can boot to the Samsung logo the the bootloader is intact and thus download mode.

If the device boots it's not bricked and considering he can boot to the Samsung logo the the bootloader is intact and thus download mode.

The only reason it's not going to download mode is because he's not timing the button combo right.
You can't permanently brick a Samsung device by simply flashing the wrong recovery.
If it boots it's not bricked that's all there is to it.

There is no timing to it is just pushing three buttons at the same time.....
You have to kill the boot loop by pushing power and volume up and down then put the USB cable in from the charger then the battery charging icon comes up......then you push power and volume down and home button to get you in to download mode......if this doesn't work then it is bricked

See you're incorrect again, you don't need to do any of that.
It does not matter whether it's boot looping, stuck on boot logo, in recovery or booted to android, you can hold POWER + HOME + VOL DOWN at ANYTIME for long enough and it will reboot to download mode.
Would you like me to purposely brick one of my devices to prove it? I'll do exactly what the OP has done and post the video. I[emoji55]

Blink, what Blinks?

Doesn't matter what state the device is in now simply hold POWER + HOME + VOL DOWN until the tablet restarts and DOWNLOAD mode appears.
Please don't post back saying this does not work as I guarantee it does if you do it correctly.
You have only flashed the wrong recovery there is no reason why you can't boot to Download mode.
Once in download mode flash the correct twrp or firmware.

Hey thanks - I must have been pressing them in the wrong order or something because when I did this it did start in download mode and I was able to flash the correct TWRP and everything is working now. Thanks!
