Hello all,
I have a T Mobile SM-N900t that was recently dropped.
Upon inspection, the phone began to overheat. I realized that the phone no longer connects to the carrier and just shows the "O/" [the line goes through the circle] where the signal bar should be.
When I activate airplane mode, the phone stops overheating. I can't make any calls at this point.
I can activate the Wi-Fi calling feature and receive and make calls. Also, I can get SMS only when I make Google Hangouts my SMS app. while in WI-Fi calling mode. This means the phone is off airplane mode.
I noticed that in Wi-Fi calling mode with NO airplane mode, the phone still gets warm, but not as hot as when I don't connect to Wi-Fi calling mode.
Things I have tried:
-Replacing the sim card
-re-inserting the sim card multiple times when the phone is off.
Things to note:
-The phone is rooted and has TWRP.
- I am still using the stock software.
-Baseband version: N900TUVUCNB4
-Android version 4.4.2
I don't know how to get this phone back to normal working order. I was thinking about replacing the logic board and assume that the chip which sends a wireless signal to the carrier is broken/bad.
Will flashing the modem help recover the device?
Any suggestions? TIA

If I don't enable data, the phone works fine. I can receive and make calls just fine.
Once I turn on data connectivity, data works fine for a while. Like 40-45 seconds. After that, the connection sort of gets stuck. I cannot make any calls, and if I call my number, I get a 'not reachable' message. The indicator in the notification bar will show full bars for a while, then if I got Settings >> Wireless & Networks >> More >> Network operators to do a manual search for network, the status bars drop to zero, become an 'x', and then go to full again. The behavior then repeats.
Bootloader is unlocked.
Any kind of help will be appreciated.
If it helps, I have the NTT Docomo version of the Galaxy Nexus (SC-04D) that is sold in Japan, but I live (and use the phone) in India.
Are the APN's set up properly for your carrier?
I'm assuming you've tried the usual toggling of airplane mode and rebooting, etc.?
APN is setup correctly, which is why the data connection works fine for a minute or so.
Toggling Airplane mode often does nothing at all, since the cellular connectivity system seems to be stuck, even when it does, it takes a loooong time for Airplane mode to get enabled in the first place, and disabling it takes even longer.
Rebooting the phone fixes the issue, but it returns very quickly (within a minute or so after rebooting).
Also, another similar thread over here mentioned that their problem got solved by flashing the FuguMod kernel - http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1438417
I flashed the kernel successfully, but the problem still persists.
Mine is doing the same thing. I'm out of ideas.
i'm starting to think this problem is extremely common.

Does anyone have this problem of having excellent cellular network connection but still being unable to call, text or even use the internet? My friend sitting beside me is using the same network so I don't think it's an issue with the cell tower.
The only fix is to enable airplane mode and disable it. And even sometimes, the airplane mode refuses to turn back off and I have to reboot the phone. I've never had such cellular issues with a HTC phone before. Makes me think twice before ever buying one of their phones.
I'm using stock ROM, unrooted.
I'm having issues when on WiFi and LTE Enabled, the phone does not get any phonecalls, missed phonecalls do not show and SMS arrive late (my carrier has the option to notify me missed calls, but yesterday the message got me 10 minutes after the call).
After searching, I've found out something similar happened to nexus 4-5, when WiFi is ON, LTE is ON, and the phone is in Sleep Mode but nothing on Zenfone 2. Have a friend with ZF2 that confirmed it happens sometimes but we doubt if it' s a phone issue or carrier issue.
Getting the network mode to 2G/3G seems to fix it, but it misses the LTE
try to restart the phone (?)
I reboot my phone every couple of days, but the bug sometimes appears in the phonecall right after rebooting
What messaging app are you using? I know I miss messages from my wife when I had textra in the "off" state with autostart manager. When I told it to start when the phone boots it started getting the text messages and mms's right away. Are you using a VPN or do you have weak signal and what firmware are you using?
make sure phone is allowed 2g/3g/4g all. If you restrict it to 4g only you will face such issues.

I usually reboot in the mornings. But I US Google voice so the issues never really show up.
Stock FW (was on 168, now I'm yesterday patched versopm) , Stock SMS, no VPN, and set to 2G/3G/4G
As I said, the problem is fixed when I'm on 2G/3G, but it kinda loses the point to have an LTE plan
can you test with 4g on and wifi off. What carrier are you on. Because carriers can use wifi and lte combo in case you have same carrier providing both facilities.

I'm on Uruguay Antel and it does not offer any combo whatsoever, voice calls are usually switched over to 3G when I'm on LTE, but somehow the network or my phone fails to switch sometimes
Currently I am in stock room.
My phone suddenly drops the network (Wi-Fi and cell network) but it is not in airplane mode.
I won't be able to receive any calls, but the caller will hear busy tone.
During the whole time my network shows few bars, but it is probably fake network.
I am just missing many calls due to this problem, and when some one notifies over other phone I will get to know and I will put into airplane more and back, the network resets and works fine.
Can anyone know what is the problem ??
I have reset my phone also, but of no use.
Thanks in advance.
Hi there,
I am trying to use WiFi Calling on my H8324. The thing is, it works but only temporarily.
When I start the phone with a fresh firmware update (or simply flash some oem_*.sin files for instance), the phone switches to WiFi calling even before it recognizes a network (which is a good thing). When I then go into airplane mode, I'm able to make and receive calls via WiFi without issues.
However, if I deactivate the WiFi mode and as soon as the phone registers with a network, WiFi Calling seems to go away and there is no way to bring it back. I've tried to reboot, disable / enable the sim, disable / enable the WiFi Calling option, tried to use only some specific network modes etc. The only way to bring WiFi calling temporarily back is to reflash firmware parts.
I have to add that I'm trying to make that work using a German blau.de sim card (O2/E-Plus network) in Canada. So I'm roaming and that's exactly the reason I would like to use WiFi Calling.
Does anyone have ideas how to solve that? Or maybe as a workaround: Is there a way to disable network registration for only one sim card? (I have the dual sim version and I'm using a Canadian SIM too). I can't use airplane mode activated all the time.
Thanks!
Update: Alright, I've found a workaround for anyone who might be in the same situation. WiFi Calling Sim must be SIM 2. Before registering with the network, activate the airplane mode, then activate WiFi. Now WiFi Calling should be working. Now go to Service menu *#*#4646#*#* and activate mobile radio manually. Now you have a working SIM1 and a SIM2 in Wifi Calling Mode.
I still need to figure it why this has to be done but so far this is a working solution. Unfortunately you won't see any notification icon for the data/voice connection for SIM 1.
