Hello
I recently bought a LG G4 off of craigslist and i love it!!! only problem is i didn't know it was blacklisted :crying: I've already rooted it and I was wondering if someone could point me in the right direction to change my IMEI (I prefer to change it to one of my old phone imei that i own)
or least give me some info a about it and yes I'm already aware thats its illegal to change a IMEI but i feel like i been cheated and i really like this phone and i just want to be able to fully use it.
so if you know any if please let me know
Thanks!!!
I don't think there are any laws saying spoofing IMEI is illegal, at least in USA. someone can correct me.
you might want to check with your seller if he is willing to discuss the matter with you.

there are none. people who call out that its illegal, are wrong, at least for the US. changing IMEI's are really difficult with qualcomm devices unfortunately. you'd have to use QPST and even then it's a crapshoot. better off getting a refund
Probably try googling it. There should be a few websites out there dedicated to this.
Sent from my LG-H811 using XDA Free mobile app
Contact seller, confront him with the facts, request a refund, go to a local certified dealer and get a new one.
Another option is to buy another phone with a destroyed screen, usually listed as "parts" phone and pretty cheap. Then, you use the nice screen and other working parts from your current phone with the bad IMEI, but remove it's CPU/circuit board and replace them with those of the "parts" phone (that presumably has a good IMEI). So you usually come out ahead, because buying the bad IMEI phone and the parts phone together still costs less than buying one phone.
Anyway, it might be easier to study how to disassemble the phone and swap the motherboard/CPU (to give you a good IMEI), compared to trying to modify/spoof it, but I'm just guessing based on my experience on how easy it was to swap motherboards on an older phone (haven't tried disassembling the LG G4 yet).
According to the Ifixit teardown, the LG G4 looks super easy to swap motherboards:
https://www.ifixit.com/Teardown/LG+G4+Teardown/42705
Seems you just take off the screws, then it opens right up for you to disengage the ribbon cables and pull out the motherboard

If all else fails and you can't get this to work on your network you can sell it on Ebay to recoup some of your money. As long as you list it truthfully as having a bad IMEI someone will still buy it from you. This has happened to me as well.
Did you ever find a solution? I am in the same situation, phone worked perfectly for months before they blacklisted it. I called Bell and they don't want the phone back, they obviously won't take it off the blacklist but don't want it back either and just said best of luck. I'm in Canada where it's apparently legal to change imei numbers. I have an old broken phone who's imei I'd like to use. Obviously getting a refund from the guy who scammed me isn't an option either. I see plenty of videos and ads for people who'll do it for me....sounds like a good way to get myself scammed even worse. We should just switch phones as yours will probably work in Canada and mine will work for you in the US. Lol
Can anyone point me in the right direction as to how to fix this? I'm willing to read instructions, educate myself and do the work. Someone here has the knowledge to help fix this...won't someone help?
Changing the imei is actually pretty simple as i had to do it on mine.

Please stop misinforming people. Changing IMEI is NEVER simple without the right tools. Having the right tools costs a LOT of money. If you work in a Service repair center, than you COULD say it is simple; but not even then there is no guarantee that it will work.

I stand corrected then.
But I still stand by my statement, though, that it is never a guarantee that it will work. And what seems easy and simple for you, can be complex for another.
In my 5+ years as a GSM service technician I learned that when dealing with IMEI, there is never a simple and unique solution. You are free to try, but the half of my customers were not simple people that simply had problems with their devices. They were people that tried to tinker and ended up with a expensive paperweight. E.G.: "I read something on a forum and wanted to try and flashed something and it doesn't start anymore".
Please don't misunderstand me, I don't discourage tinkering. I just encourage people to READ before they flash, just understand what they are doing. If they try to understand and fail, there are lots of others that can help.

Before he can cash on his discovery, let him offer a promo - i.e some free codes, say for 3 people, then he can market himself and profit if he wants.
Although, he will be defeating the objective of this forum, which I believe is not necessary profitering from knowledge, but providing something for the benefit of the community, then people willingly give you what they can afford if they find your solution helpful.
At least, that has been the case with all the other's efforts....pof, perjan, tom_codon, et.c to mention but a few.

Yeah he can make profit of his findings, but why for something we can get it done here for free, I unlocked my artemis for free, right here in this forum. no offence kingback, if every one reads the forum there is lot more anyone can do with patience, if kingback can offer better things he can get donations, if I can use what anyone offers and if it is working I'll be happy to pay for his time. Sorry am I missing something? Where is there a free SIM unlock option available in this forum?
The program has been deleted but Pof says it works. Ask someone and they may have downloaded it.
Basically you run the program and it writes a file that you use with a MicroSD card to change the unlock code on your device to one you know the number of. You then put in a different network SIM and put in the unlock code. And it is unlocked. Apparently. All the OP is doing is using the program he downloaded off this forum to create the file you need and then selling it to you. Shame on him!
Ahhh that. I thought it didn't work, but have read to see it may have been understood, although I don't read any posts saying anyone unlocked their Artemis with it.
Odd how come it was there for days, but as soon as it was deciphered it has been removed.
It was removed at the request of the software's author.
Why delete a free tool? That would give the people that have downloaded it more power, and make it easier for them to make money off it..
I don't think Admin really had much choice, if I have read the posts properly it was a copyrighted program and the holders asked for it's removal.

Rifaa - Where did you ghet yours unlocked for free ? Please provide the information then, so others can benefit. If you read my posting accurately, I am sure you will see I did not say people can't get it SIM unlocked for free.
I merely suggested that he make true his claim i.e by offering some free codes which in turn is ascertained by the beneficiaries and then state his terms...even if that is contrary to the objectives of this kind of forum.
unlocker didn't work...
as for now, nobody reported the tool actually worked! so be aware, the unlocker tool did not work so far. if someone is selling output based on the earlier posted unlocker, be a little bit skeptic before paying!

there shouldn't be any problems with copyright or any other law...

This is a warning to all members of xda-developers.
One member, Olipro, is charging £75 for his "secret" to "cheaply" unbrick a bricked phone.
You could do that. You could let him break the law and void your warranty. Or you could give HTC a call. That's exactly what I did this morning, and they have said my bricked HTC Touch is still under warranty, and not only will they fix it for FREE, providing they don't find out that I tried to load a cooked ROM, but they are actually sending someone out to collect it for free!
So if they don't find evidence that I tried to load a cooked ROM they'll fix it completely free, including returning it.
If they DO find that an "illegal" ROM has been loaded to it, they will charge me £50 and fix it.
How's THAT for excellent customer service? Even if they do find that I have tampered with it they will only charge £50, compared to Olipro's £75.
So let this be a warning to everyone. DO NOT PAY OLIPRO TO "FIX" YOUR BRICKED PHONE!
*BUMP* This is really important!
Should be stickied.
I find it really hard to belive Olipro would do that!
Even if he did, it is his right to charge you for a service. And because it's a free world with a free market, YOU have the option to go with one service or the other.
There's always the option of sending it back or trying to learn the unbrick procedure like Olipro did. ...not to mention the option of leaving it stock, untouched, if we are to speak about warranty issues.
seriously... Olipro has spurred many fronts in Phone customization... and for those of us without warranties and whatnot his price is kinda fair... hes not an organization that probably gets tax creds for shipping and fixing your **** ups...
As your phone is dead, you can always send it to me... You won't get anything back, nor will you get any money, but at least you'll sleep well knowing you've made a good donation to the cause...

I see where you're coming from...but at the same time, I think Olipro charges 25 more than HTC because he'll be teaching you the secret to unlock your bricked phone...as opposed to HTC unlocking it once...
Now, if you like flashing ROMs, I'm pretty sure you're gonna end up bricking your phone one way or another, and everytime that happens, you're going to rely on Olipro's "secret" method to unlock your phone...now let's assume for the sake of the argument that you brick your phone twice in a month...that means that your total cost per fix is 12.50...not a bad deal, considering that it's kinda frustrating to find solutions online, even in a site as comprehensive and as superb as this one.
I agree with what was mentioned above...Olipro DOES have the right to present a bill for his services. After all, we're not communists...and after all, he IS sharing something that he learned by himself...you also have the right to NOT take him up on that offer. I seriously doubt that he'll take that against you anyway.
I also understand how it can be upsetting, specially after finding out that the manufacturer can fix it for free, provided that they don't find out about the ROM being touched. Nowadays, our li'l Elves and Elfins have become our constant companions...and like a good companion, I'd get seriously pissed too if my Elf/Elfin got bricked.
Sorry for the long-winded note...just my two cents. Anyway, good luck with your device =) Let us know what happens.
ps...by the way, if HTC themselves are gonna repair it, can you confirm to us (after they give you back your device) if they put in WM6.1? I know they are planning to release that on the Touch, and I was just wondering if they might install that on your device already.
Cheers!
JOKE OR DISCREDIT !!!

Firstly, how did you brick? Its pretty easy to not brick, and if you do, then you can fix it easily unless you ****ed it up by being a total idiot.
Secondly Flashing a cooked ROM or SPL or anything to your device constitutes breach of warranty, so although HTC said they'll do it for £50, they might just say **** you.
Lastly, you have no right to criticise him. He has made hacked SPL's for Many of the devices on XDA, and so loads of us are indebted to him. Plus, you made a grave mistake by opening this thread, because you are now going to feel an extremely intelligent guy raping you intellectually.

I'd think it's more likely an idiot tax... After all, if you research what you're doing, and read things properly, then do things properly, then the chance of you bricking your device is very, very low...
If you're just too silly to read and want someone else to fix your screwups, then 75 quid is more than appropriate...
I just hope HTC does fix your phone, cuz if they don't, if I were Oli, I would let you hang in the dry with that paper weight for being an idiot

Esko if you'd read the original post, HTC IS going to fix his phone and they will ONLY charge him if they find evidence of tampering....
My 2 cents is: if its true that oli charges that price with a crash course in unbricking it might not be so bad.
But if he just unbricks your phone, he is charging an extortionate price! (in dutch: woekerprijs).
I find this strange because in the short time I've been here, I've seen many good posts by him! Olipro isnt someone I'd ask to unbrick my phone anyway I'd maybe ask him which posts i should read for my particular case.
Oh, I get it. It's perfectly fine to pay someone to teach you how to rob a bank and then rob a bank as many times as you want. I never knew that!
So, anyone here selling tutorials on how to rob a bank?
I was told during my conversation with HTC that custom ROMs in general are illegal - Thus this whole site isn't exactly innocent. But if no money is being made then HTC aren't going to take down the site. However, Olipro is SELLING custom ROMs. Excuse me, but where is he buying these copies of Windows Mobile and HTC's copyrighted software from in order to resell them?
As for my Touch, UPS came and collected it and it is now with HTC.

Your logic is dumb and full of holes. Oli has done so much for the phone community and the fact that you would post on here about something like this proves that you don't think through things thoroughly.
Custom ROMS are not illegal, they are illegal if they include software that is not "free and open".
The problem you have is that you don't think for yourself. Instead of reading enough to un-brick your own device you pushed it to somebody else. Then, when HTC told you, "custom ROMS are illegal" you said, AHAH! XDA is partially at fault as well.
A better, more mature and more logical response would be to ask yourself why you didn't read enough to NOT brick your device to begin with.

If he was selling ROMs we would be VERY aware of it, as it happens he ISNT selling ROMs and I will VERY gladly stand by that statement.
I think the lesson to be learnt here is that quite clearly you didnt understand the risks of flashing your device, and obviously didnt prepare yourself for the consequences if it went wrong.
Nearly ALL veterans of this site have had a bad flash and it is one of the risks of freeing your device from the ROM on it. If you dont want to lose your device like this again, dont meddle with the software on it. Easy.
dude let me try to make it simple...maybe you'd understand that
its not illegal to put a custom rom even though it voids ur warranty
so the point im trying to make is WHY DID U COME TO THIS SITE if U DIDNT WANT TO PUT CUSTOM ROMS? is this a site where u can get free sex??? no .. the only reason any one comes here is to better their device , to make it more usable and sometimes to LEARN how to add your personal touches to it..and if something goes wrong its not any one elses fault except your own .. if you try to fix it and fail then you have to options ... either get some one from here to help you out or go the the manufacturer and try to get them to do the repair ..
if the former is the case (i suppose its same with the latter aswell) the price they would charge is upto them ....even if oli charges you 150$ for unbricking your phone its still less than the 300-800$ DEAD PAPER WEIGHT you would have cos of your stupidity !!!!
see how simple it is!! now go **** ur self!
Bit more heated than it needs to be, this..
I'm not sure there's a debate to have. Some noob people would 'brick themselves' (as we say in UK) if they bricked their phone and be frightened to touch it and make it worse. If someone's offering to do it for them for a fee, seems simple enough to me.
The 'noone need flash their phone in the first place' debate is irrelevant really. Someone just needn't use such a service if they don't want to. It's quite debrickable if you want to do it. Someone can do it for you if you're too nervous after that first ****-up.
Still not sure why a debate's sprung up.

what should i try to do, change the apn settings?

I have a Stock AT&T SGH-I747
After Selecting PERSO SHA256 OFF and going back my number 4 option reads: "[4] RAT_FREE_SUPPORITNG ON"
I did not mis-spell that either.
It would be nice if you could help instead of acting superior.
Thanks

Please search before posting as this has been covered numerous amounts of times... You have to be on stock to get the unlock pin prompt and it you want to free unlock there is a thread on that as well.....

If you had followed the rules of the site and searched for your information before posting you would have found it covered in great detail that you must be on android 4.1.1 for this method to work, but instead you decided to just cry about it.

There's no crying, I just tire of some of the brainiacs here acting superior instead of actually helping. I did see that, however I'm also not sure about how to go about doing that and "some" people suggested trying it anyway, so I did.
Everyone is aware you can go buy an unlock code for $25-$30, and it will work around all of these little roadblocks, but we're supposed to be here to help each other. So, someone much smarter than you figured out how to do this to the phone in whatever version the phones current state is.
You're just quoting other people, not offering any help
Now, if "You" are aware of a procedure to accomplish this the way the phone sits then please offer some help, otherwise Lose The Attitude and try treating people with a little respect.

Pretty simple if you ask me, which you just did. Flash back to stock 4.1.1, spend the money, or call your carrier and try your luck with them.

So... Basically you don't know how to do it. You're just running your mouth here on the forum trying to act more intelligent than you really are.
Do you think I needed your input to figure out the "spend the money, or call your carrier" options?
I wanted to try the forum to see if I could find a way to do it Safely and without spending any money.
Over the years there have been quite a few intelligent and helpful people and they have provided valuable information.
You, however have only proven your uselessness to everyone. In the future either help or keep quiet!
Can you please give me firmware 4.1.1 for AT/T SGH-I747. I have searched all the way but i am getting links only connected with banned links. So i despretly need help.
Thanks
Searching the forums is always the fastest way....

Okay. I know it's asking a lot from you but let's think for a minute. Everything I have read says the phone has to be on 4.1.1. The method you are trying which is, using the dial pad to access the phone settings and not purchasing an unlock code or calling your carrier, only works for 4.1.1 which you obviously are not on currently, hence your predicament. Since you lack the skills to search and read how to downgrade, like you stated, the only other options are to purchase the code or call your carrier. He gave you all three options that work and you are saying he is useless? Your comments are the most useless comments I have read in a long time. It's like trying to make sense out of nonsense. You are asking for something that doesn't exist and it doesn't take much "intelligence" to figure that out. Good luck.
P.S. I have a 66 Thanks Meter and only 156 posts. How helpful are your posts?
Wow, I hope you made yourself feel better now. Are you two related somehow?
Look Dink! - For Starters this was back in December, is your life that empty?
Second, I'm not the one claiming to know everything, apparently you do...
As I stated, I came looking for help and "good" advice.
You Are Truly Pathetic.
You obviously have nothing to offer either
Please find someone to change your diaper
And In the future either Help or Keep Quiet!!!
You whiney little thumbsucker.

Your life must be exciting!
Wow
First, do not insult anyone. Its easy to sound tough over the internet. I can bet and guarantee that you would never in your life walk up to someone and say any of that.

Second. This isn't a help website or a walk thru guide. Go to YouTube. The only one being a "thumbsucker" here is you due to the fact you keep crying about this, and looking for someone to hold your hand. Use the damn search feature and do work for yourself.
Third. As of now, no one will help you, you're screwed. So good luck "though guy"
Take your own advice and insults.
Noob here! Apologies if there's already a thread about this, but I've scoured the internet since Boost has been extremely crappy about not letting me use a phone for which I paid full-price. They wouldn't give me an unlock code when I talked to them on the phones earlier, so I sent out a support ticket although I have little hope anything will result from it. So my question to all of you is, am I going to have to bite the bullet and just go to one of those pay sites, or doesn't someone know of a workaround?
I'm generally proficient with computers and electronics, so if it's moderately complicated I should be able to manage.
EDIT: Sorry, it's a ZTE Warp 4G, not HTC.
what do you want to achieve?

Hi again
is your simcard blocked by boost mobile??
The sIM card shouldn't be, no. Even if it was, I already have my new one from Cricket with the number transferred over. I was just trying to figure out if I'd be able to unlock the phone itself so I could use it with my new service provider.
Than. You can buy a unlock code on a website or you can ask it by your provider

My provider refused to give it to me, and every pay site I've tried hasn't been able to do it.
Ah well, it was worth a shot. I've given up on it and have ordered a new phone that will be compatible with my new service. Thanks anyway!

Hey guys, I just flashed the Korean KT version pie kdz into my att v35. Everything works great so far, the reception seems better than before.
The way to flash is similar to flashing project fi kdz, but the phone was wiped clean by doing so. So back up as always.

my imei is still there, but I did hear some ppl have this issue. Not sure why. I think if you have successfully flashed the project fi rom before, you should be fine.

Pardon our skepticism. I personally know of someone over in Moto Quark forum who bricked their phone (back when it was newly released) trying to flash firmware they shouldn't... Then out of spite of their own stupidity, posted to everyone it was wonderful and to try it themselves, that they would see. Misery loves company? He got banned.
The defensive attitude makes me even more suspicious.

I understand, and I did this based on my research for 2 days and didn't see any one failed in the Chinese forum. That's why I shared my experience here. I think this is what this forum here for, for COMMUNICATION? I simply just don't like that guys attitude, which came straight up to 'report'. If this is a place of dictatorship, I will try to avoid it for good, cause I try to live in a civilized environment. If bullying each other is a culture here, then never mind, I'll delete this post, y'all can enjoy your Oreo

We have seen a lot of jack wagons on here, deliberately posting incompatible software, knowing noobs will flash and brick. Haven't reported it yet. Maybe more screenshots, possibly a video, so we can be sure.

I get that we are weary of bricking our phones, but shouldn't we wait to confirm that this is fake when there is a confirmed brick for this particular situation? Jumping the gun like this is not good for the community.
