you can make a kernel with init.d support by yourself. you can get the full instruction in mikstev's post about droidwall.

best is very relative. if you need high performance you sacrifice battery life. if you need a lot of features you sacrifice free memory. if you don't know what you want, my advice stick to stock kernel. or just make little modification like kurotsugi says.
@leodasal2
a lot of custom rom have modified boot.img with stock kernel and init.d. you can use that
I have a galaxy s3 and would like to know how to optimize a custom rom I am trying to make for battery consumption and speed. I know I can add a different kernel but is there anything I can do at the rom level? Btw this is my first custom rom and I am just doing it for fun. Any help is appreciated
Thank you
If you know lil bit of programming there is a lot of things to so. Otherwise killings apps and using karnel set ups might be option.
I'm very new to this however am willing to learn and do my best. Is there a tweaks thread that I may add to my rom as a guide? I know cleaning the bloat can help but I was hoping that removing bloat and adding custom kernel wouldn't be my only options.

you can also try installing memory management scripts like supercharger.
Pump my ROM has never let me down. Also android tuner is great.

I was looking for something more intrinsic to the rom and not something that can be changed with an app.
I wanna thank everyone for the help! I'm trying to get the hang of this dev thing. If anyone else has any more suggestions I would love to hear them.
Hey guys
Just wanted to know which modded stock rom has more features and is better?
The Epsilon Project v03 or Savvy Rom V4?
I think its PAC man ROM since it has features from most of the ROMs or maybe dirty unicorns not really sure kinda new here

I had some weird problems with SMS on Savvyrom, but I wouldn't blame the ROM for sure, as my phone itself is a hack (F180 that thinks it's E975)... No problems on Epsilon at all. Functionality and performance are about the same on both, I didn't notice much of a difference, if any.
But you are asking the "best ROM" question that is not allowed here. Try them both and decide for yourself...

Yeah PAC-man is good but with LG, I think the stock rom features are quite amazing and so was wondering about the modded stock ones

My vot for Savvy V4. Main reason because with many other roms I have GPS Problems. I coudldn't get a gps fix, but I don't have these problems with Savvy. Also the developer is still active and developing. At the moment he is testing Viper Kernel, maybe we will get an update soon.

Speaking of kernel, Viper works great with stock, not just Savvy. I used it with Epsilon, and I use it now with debloated tweaked stock. Excellent kernel!

I phrased it incorrectly. Apologies. I meant which rom has more extra features. In the sense that Epsilon has G2 file manager, gallery etc and also has a few performance tweaks

Here it is (it's a Sprint forum). Also, take a look at this thread for some info from @davevinci on installing it and replacing WiFi modules -- that's what I did.
I have no idea about MHL and radio. I never use MHL, and my phone (F180S) doesn't have a radio module, so I don't care about either.
Best custom rom in the world is epsilon modded by evo, you can find it in htcmania. It works like a charm...

Why search on htcmania, especially for non-spanish speakers? Isn't the Epsilon posted here on XDA the same ROM from the same dev?
Ok @kt-Froggy now I understand because I was not finding anything for E975 in sprint thread.
You made some adjustments to wifi modules, do you know if for version E975 is the same?
Best rom is the stock one and modded with xposed framework. Odexed roms will always be faster than deodexed. Until xposed appeared a rom had to be deodexed to be easier to work on it,especially on themes. Now,we don't have to deodex. Just remove the bloat, optionally flash a custom kernel and tweak it with xposed. You won't get better results.

I just replaced the WiFi modules with those provided by @davevinci, that's it (I linked to the thread where it was discussed). It works for me with no problems.

I've tried like that this morning, it's working, but no radio has expected.
This kernel version is probably the one that turvat1377 is testing for his SAVVYROM V5 ROM.
I will test MHL ASAP.
Best ROM
Stock Stock LG
Best Modded Stock?
For F180 - Gomdolight Enhancement FTW! Has a thread here now in XDA btw
For e975 and international- It's hard to choose between Savvy and Epsilon both are great
Also u can try porting the Sprint Stock Roms urself.. Very easy just change some of the telephony files and some kernel drivers from e975

The only problem with Savvy is that battery life is horrible...compared to stock and epsilon... or maybe it's just me :|

Kernel Version
if you flash the kernel and check kernel version in system settings it will still say taimen. I will change this in the next release. It´s purely cosmetic.
have fun all and a nice evening/day :highfive:
Excellent!!
Oh my god. Your kernel is one of the main reason that made me hesitate whether go to pixel2 or not, and now I'm completely worry-free.
Drink a cup of coffee and have a nice day
Are you going to add a flashable zip method in the near future? TWRP beta 1 is able to flash zips now, so I'm just wondering if you will be updating to zips.

Update to 1.0.2
hey guys and girls,
little update for the kernel
Changelog:
- upstreamed to 4.4.102
- built touchscreen and battery drivers in the kernel instead of a module
- for other little changes see my github
use the instructions in the op please
Download: https://www.androidfilehost.com/?fid=889964283620769022
or following the link in the op to the correction version
Have fun, enjoy the kernel and your phone.
Donations are not mandatory but very welcome.
If you like my work and want to buy me a coffee: http://paypal.me/freak07
It still says "taimen" in the kernel signature, I assume this is fine?
Thanks for the kernel!

Everyone's phone usage is different, so YMMV, that being said I only drained 2% standby overnight (8 hours) using this kernel, where on stock I would typically drain 4-5%. I also feel like apps load a little bit faster thanks to the slight OC. Slight but noticable IMO. Once again, YMMV.

I don’t know, but I think not. The kernel is built on the sources for 8.0.
you can always flash the kernel via fastboot and just restore the stock boot.img via fastboot from the dev preview zip in case it isn’t booting. And report back

I think AR beast is better. More customization and better overall hope I helped
I need some help. I'm pretty noob with all what is related to kernel and Custom Rom in general. I just wanted to know if using QPST method I restore the stock kernel, if previously I installed another one with a Custom Rom.
And if i doesn't, where can I find it?
