ls980 AOSP based rom - Sprint LG G2

Any AOSP based rom for G2 with camera as good as stock? All those I tried were a deal breaker only because of the camera quality.
Also can anybody tell me a step by step procedure on how to restore stock nandroid backup after flashing an AOSP rom? Last time I had to tot back to zve then upgrade to zvg > root > autorec > then restore the backup. So its hard to try many aosp roms if I cant return to a backup on the fly.
Ok so, comparisons and saying a rom is better than the other is against XDA's rules, so maybe just help me with restoring stock nandroid so I can play around with different roms maybe?

I'm afraid that's the best way to restore your nandroid backup because it'll put the foundation back in order for your backup to load up properly, such as kernel, baseband, etc; otherwise you'll most likely run into terrible issues. I'm personally using CM12 nightly, and it runs great. I don't miss stock one bit.

That's sad. I would love to try more roms. Yeah I tried some aosp roms But the camera was not as good as stock. How is cm12 camera?

Camera works great, I am using cm12 preferred stock camera app version 2.0.002. Focus, flash, and video all work. Front facing camera works too. You have basic settings you can change. On CM12 it just works so smooth since it's not bloated. Of course you can always find other apps out there that you might prefer.

I have never flashed a rom to my current evo which is rooted and I love it. My question is how do I go back to my current stock state if I don't like rom. I have nandroid backups and will make another before I flash a rom, I know how to clear everything out before flashing the new rom. Can I just restore the nandroid back to return to the stock rom or do I have to do something else. Also what kernel should I use if I want to check out CM7. I have read that a lot of people use either Tiamat or Savaged-Zen. Thanks in advance.

That is correct, all you would need to do is restore a nandroiid backup, to return the exact point you were at when you created that backup. Simple as that. As far as kernels, either of the two you tried should work great. Every phone is different, so try them out and see how they run. I'd also give the stock CM kernel that comes with CM7 a chance, it ran beautifully on my device, fwiw.
I agree with buckley in regards to just using the stock CM7 kernel. I'm pretty sure Cyanongen and Co. know what they're doing...
Great then I think that I will try to install CM7. Also do I need to do the gps fix now while I'm on the stock rom or do I needed to just wait to see if I have gps problems first. Also will CM7 replace my Amon-Ra v 2.3 with Clockwork recovery.

Flashing CM won't effect your recovery. Also, I think you can do the GPS fix now before you flash. Either way, couldn't hurt.

[Q] SGS3 T999 - Personal Data, Apps, and New ROM(s)

Hey guys,
Love reading and contributing to this forum.
Question, I am currently running stock ROMs for my tmo SGS3 T999. I was thinking about switching to another slimmer ROM so I can further get more performance and juice out of the thing. Right now I'm running the Root66 latest 4.3 ROM and it works well.
So, one I was considering was the SlimRom (Here). Knowing that there might be issues with my data not importing into this ROM, what is the best way to preserve this as well as maybe import from stock to another ROM? Is it as simple as taking a Titanium Backup and importing it? Or, should it just acquire the old data and use it? If I decide to go back to a stock ROM, will my old data be retained even after using a different ROM for some time or will it get overwritten?
As an example of why I'd like to save/import my data:
For instance, I have a game that I've been working on for months. I'd like to preserve this game state data on any ROM I decide to flash.
Lastly, what high performance and customizable ROM would you suggest and does it require a non-stock recovery (i.e. CWM or TWRP, etc.)?
Thanks guys and keep up the good work!
Thanks,
Johnathan

If you intend to go back to Stock at some point then take a Nandroid before flashing SlimBean.
As to the Game Data etc, Titanium is your friend. Do note, if there is a System app that you wish to keep data then convert it to user app before taking Titanium Backup. Titanium won't be Able to restore the data for a System app. Particularly when the app was a System app on Touchwiz and SlimBean is AOSP.

Apologies for the noob response, but I suppose that Nandroid is a backup software? I also assume that SlimBean and SlimROM are the same.
Can things like Messages, call logs, email, etc be migrated from a Titanium Backup?
If I convert any system apps to user apps, would that include Messaging to keep txt's etc. as well as Phone for call logs?
Looks like I'll have to root my phone even though I've used Root66's ROM last so I can backup my phone... hmph.
Thanks,
Johnathan
Nandroid is not a Software. It is a Nand Backupyou create when booted into a Custom Recovery. You will have read here on forum or on Wiki if you need to know more.
SlimBean and Slim Rom are one and the same. To the best of my knowledge, Slim Bean is the Official Name.
Emails and messages can be migrated via Titanium. However best if you take a backup of these inside the respective apps. Typically they allow you to back on a PC. Do so for double effect. I do believe Kies has an ability to backup Call Log. But I personally have never backed up Call Log so am not sure. I don't think you'd have to convert Messaging and Phone apps since you are backing those details as above.
OK, thanks for that.
So, if I want to keep data from System Apps, they need to be converted to User Apps, does this include the Phone and Message apps so I can retain the logs and txt's?
Thanks again,
Johnathan

Got it. Thanks again.
BTW, any experience with the PAC-man ROM (Here) or AllianceROM (Here)?
Seemed like a decent one since it include features from multiple other ROMs.
Thanks,
Johnathan
I have tried PAC MAN Rom just because I wanted to see what the Unicorn (AOKP) is upto. Realized it hates my favorite Kernel so left it. Honestly never tried Alliance Rom. I like AOSP and have no love for the touchwiz framework. My Current Combo is SlimKat Rom and KT747 Kernel.

I was looking at SlimKat.... they have the d2lte download that replaced the d2tmo. Would I need CWM or TWRP to implement this?
Also, that is the Kernel compared to the ROM?
Thanks for your help,
Johnathan
Yes you will need either CWM or TWRP or something similar such as Philz Touch.
I tend to replace the kernel of Slimkat with KT747. Nothing wrong with the Rom's kernel. Its just my preference.
Ok,so for any ROMs that are not stock-based, a different recovery is needed other than stock.
Why did you choose that Kernel over others? What does it offer that suits your fancy?
Using the XDA Developers app... OH YEAH!!!
Sounds about right. Do note, even for Alliance Rom, you'd need Custom Recovery such as CWM or TWRP. For terminology sake, any recovery that's not stock is called Custom Recovery.
I like KT747 because of the ease and flexibility it offers for profile based Overclocking or Undervolting. See the link in my signature for Undervolting just to give you an Idea.

That's cool, I'll check it out.
Apologies for all the questions... just thought that I'd get them all out.
One last one, I think... AllianceROM, I've seen several that have specific device models that it should work for... I can't find much about the t999 being supported with AllianceROM. I suppose I can't assume this would work with this model, correct?
Thanks again,
Johnathan
When it comes to Touchwiz based Roms (AKA Stock Based Roms), if it does not include your device, I wouldn't try it.

[Q] Help with flashing rom

I just recently rooted my LG G3 D850. I've backed up all my apps using Titanium Backup.. I flashed TWRP recovery and have backed up my stock ROM (I think lol) and I'm just wondering if anybody could tell me if the most recent cm12.1 nightly (5/31/15) will flash ok even though I'm currently running lollipop 5.0.1 Sorry if this is a really noob question lol I just don't want to brick my phone And if anyone has any input on whether or not I should even bother flashing cm until a stable build that would be great! Thanks in advance and I'm glad to join all of you!
If you can boot into twrp then you sold be fine

There are varying opinions on the use of TItanium Backup. I would suggest not using it to go between stock and AOSP/CM. I usually backup from within a few apps, contacts, Nova, SMS... then restore on the other side.
I do not have your variant, so can't recommend a specific ROM based on experience with it, but I run this on mine and it is SOLID. They have a build for the D850, too, you just have to look for it on the page..
CyanideL
I would highly recommend Slim Gapps.
If you wait for a CM ROM to go stable, you may never make the switch! I ran nightlies for a while on another device; some are just more debugged than others. You will likely know early on if a release will not work for you as a daily driver and then all you have to do is revert to your last backup via TWRP. Either way, I wouldn't suggest flashing a ROM while on the morning tube, knowing you will need everything to work to get through your day. You will want to take some time with it to get comfortable, figure out what [else] it can do, and make sure that everything works. Sometimes little things (like GPS) are an easy fix that you can apply if you take a few minutes to look into it here.

Flash away! Just make sure you wipe your phone first (you'll probably find how to wipe it in the first post of the CM12.1 thread, under install instructions)
Yeah! I wouldn't try to recover from back-up after flashing, seeing how you are switching from stock to CM, and these might be built differently. I would only back-up in case I screwed up and needed to revert to stock.

Camera Error after downgrade

I've been jumping lately between various AOSP Jellybean roms, and Lollipop roms without issue on my I747m. Now, I'm upgrading my phone and want to give my S3 to my dad. He will just make basic calls and take pics. I want him to be on Touchwiz as i think the camera will be best for him in that regard.
I've tried 3 TW roms in a row, and they all give me the same error, "cannot connect to camera", as if another app is using the camera. Going back to my usual AOSP/CM roms in between attempts show the camera to work just fine. While on the touchwiz roms, I've cleared the camera cache, pulled the battery, etc etc... all the usual stuff. These are full wipes, clean installs with absolutely nothing being done to the phone (not even downloading an app). I install the ROM, wait a few minutes, then try the camera to no avail.
Any thoughts on what could be doing this? I have gone to touchwiz roms in the past (briefly) with no issue, but haven't tried in quite some time. I'm on the MK5 bootloader, if it matters.
Thanks.

I can think of a couple of things that may help.
MK5 is a 4.3 bootloader and modem. Were the TouchWiz ROMs you flashed Android 4.3 or KitKat ROMs? If they were Kitkat, Android 4.4.2, then the fix may be as simple as flashing the ROM and then flashing one of the custom kernels, either ibuddler's, found in the OP of the Likewise ROM, or the TW kernel by ktoonsez.
If you were flashing a 4.3 TW ROM, or if the custom kernel did not help with a 4.4.2 ROM; then you may need to flash a stock MK5 ROM, followed with a factory reset from the stock recovery. After that flash the custom recovery of your choice, root, and flash the TW ROM you like best.

[ROM][7.1.2][OFFICIAL] LineageOS for N7105 - Help

OK, I dont want to post in the ROM area.. as far as I remember I am suppose to post here.
So I would like to install 14.1 on my note 2 I317. I did it last night.. not great results, but it was the root thing.
I am not sure the dev thread is updated on the latest way to upgrade the phone.
Anyone help? I flash the rom, then the apps (is the stock still the best option?) and then what do I do about root, because in the last few posts of the dev thread I see something about not flashing.. and flashing.
and then there is the HWC thing? am I doing this>? or no?
James
Also I am coming from way back on a rom called SLIMFAST 4.4 - If I want to carry over apps and data.. what is the best way to do that? or can I really?
James
You will carry the data (music, videos etc.), but app data no.
I don't recommend you to flash HWC as you are beginning with this and it is still test stuff.
Anyway steps:
1. Flash latest version of TWRP.
2. Backup. (In case something goes wrong)
3. Wipe dalvik, cache, system, data.
4. Install LineageOS.
5. Install Google Apps. There aren't 'the best'. It all depends on you which you want to use/how much google stuff you want on your phone.
6. Install magisk for root - http://tiny.cc/latestmagisk
7. Reboot.

Or u can just backup APKs using this:
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=mobi.usage.appbackup
And restore them with just one click using this :
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.sharon.oneclickinstaller
But if you want data too, Titanium is good
well since the install the first time did not work well I restored the backup I did.. Now tonight I was trying to use the gps, and it is now not working since I restored the backup?
Is it possible something happened there??
When you restore a backup ( I did a complete with everything) I dont have to wipe stuff out first do I?

well, the partitions that is going to be restored are wiped by default before restoring the backup, so there's no need to wipe, it might be a bug in the ROM and you didn't notice it before.
anyway, you can try wiping manually then restore.
btw, your thread name is confusing, it's better not to right in that form......[ROM][7.1.2][OFF..........when it's a normal help thread.
well I am not sure it is a normal help thread.
For 2 years I have been using slimfast 4.4 no issues - and then I decided to try this rom, and it breaks my GPS.
I have restored 3 different backups I had of slimfast 4.4 dating back to January 2015. None of them does the GPS work.
Before I tried the 7.1 upgrade I was locking 22 satellites in about 45 seconds. Now I cannot lock to 1.
Is there an issue with this rom that would break the GPS to the point that no matter what rom is in it wont work?
Or can someone give me a hint on what to try next? I can try and re-do the upgrade via Option58s instructions.

yes it's a normal help thread, your thread name is more like a ROM thread name!, however...
did you try a clean install of the kitkat rom first?
maybe something is making a conflict or whatever I'm not sure..
try a clean install and see if the GPS is fixed.
clean install of 4.4 and no gps. apps that can show if the hardware is there, so it is present and available? but no app gets a lock.. on even 1 satalite.

I'm not sure, last thing to try is Flashing stock ROM, if that didn't help it, then it's a hardware damage.
