1 Click Root? - G4 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I was wondering if team Codefire is planning to release a 1 click root for the LG G4 (H811 in particular)? If so, when? I have a mac, so I can't root my T-Mobile LG G4.

I am on a vacation right now, so I don't have any family or friends near me. My hotel has a crappy internet with a 50kb/s download speed, so it will take hours for the root file to download. I also rather not risk bricking my phone if possible.

I believe i read they are working on a easier method but wont be this weekend. So if u are patient id say wait another week or 2 and they most likely will have a one click root. If. Dont want to wait you could always do this method on a friends or family members computer after vacation.

If you continue to wait and an OTA is forced on you, you may regret it. Root was fast and easy.

[Q] Is there a root bounty yet?

Has one been established yet that I've missed?
I don't see one yet. The ATT forum has one up and its at about $1500 so far.
Man they're ahead of us. I'll wait for a more established member to start up a thread.
I'd be willing to throw down for root. Don't know what I'd do w/o Titanium Backup and AdFree :silly:
I would make a contribution.
If someone who has the time to keep track of donations can start the bounty thread I will donate as well.
A good question first, is which developer is willing to work on it? Chainfire maybe?
yeah i'd probably throw in a bit. i bet verizon could get a large bounty. didn't the S5 get like almost 10 grand? lol
We need to get someone who can get in touch with devs to start this. Cause it's going to bring more interest to people like chainfire to figure out a root method.

I think 10k for verizon and 8k for AT&T
Does anyone know if chainfire is actively working it?
I really only want root for AdAway and Titanium BackUp.... I'd be willing to throw down enough for a few beers for root.
Same, a few bucks towards root. I am all for that.
Count me in as well,
We need a proper thread started stat.
Yeah I'd throw in like $75 towards the pot
I'd definitely contribute $$$ for this.

I think we are currently on KitKat with our Note 4s. So if root is figured out for current config, just as in the past with other phones, simply block the update app with Titanium and stay on KitKat if this holds true and lollipop truly makes it an impossibility to achieve root from then on.
Just my thoughts.

[Q] Might be getting a little obsessive...

This is my first android phone on verizon before this i had the iPhone 5 for 2 years and before that i was on sprint with the evo 3d which was rooted... i didn't know it was a mission to get verizon phones rooted. Now im checking the forums everyday like 3 or 4 times a day to see if anything new has come up for root. Im getting desperate lol. People that have had previous note devices on verizon, did it usually take this long?
Lol you sound just like me! Ive looked everywhere. And now just sticking to xda hopen for some good news! I had a s2 rooted then went to ip4 to ip5s both jb. now im back to android with n4. N4 is a bad ass just waiting for this root to make it even meaner! I feel your pain bud!
Don't count on this phone being rooted on Verizon. If it's that important, you may need to switch phones/carriers. It's unfortunate.
It'll be rooted, just have patience. People are SMART around here, and they'll figure it out. It's still a fantastic phone as it is.

I don't doubt that the N4 will eventually have root.
I think the issues as stated is that CF needs an unlocked bootloader, which means either we get an unlocked bootloader (which I really doubt) or someone finds an alternative method. So yeah, nobody can predict the future, but this isn't like other phones like say on Tmob. There are more obstacles people with AT&T/VZW need to overcome. Saying otherwise at this point is very misleading to potential buyers and retail owners.

I think the note 3 just got root this past summer, and it was released Sept 2013, so that would be 8-10 months after release.

If only it were that easy. Unfortunately Samsung's DE program is a nightmare and they can't seem to keep them in stock. I would happily sell my phone today for $550 and order a DE for $700, but its not even an option.

Well if we've learned anything about Samsung this year its that they don't know how to properly plan their phone supplies. At this point I'll just wait for an M9 instead of dealing with Samsung's DE circus.

What is taking so long for G4 to get root??

I really want the g4 to get root access. I even have the H815 model but its a United States model. Is there any rooting methods for my model yet? I tried the LG Dev website and said doesnt support it yet.

There are developers activly working on it. Be patient, LG hopefully will allow bootloader unlock soon. Untill then, no root method is currently available to us.

There are some threads already about this, but to answer, it could be lots of factors. Some I read and some I made up
-Devs don't want to post and provide support for a 119 steps guide.
-The method they found is so risky that even doing it successfully has high chances of bricking the phone.
-The root exploit might reveal a concerning security hole so exploitable by malicious Apps/hackers that LG is gonna patch it right away.
-They're making a KOOL App/Scrip with some extras and a nice UI, capable of overcome any possible issues. Like survive the most hostile OTAs
-They might want to sell that ^ App.
-The App could be ready but some of the involved developers are not happy with it.
-They could be waiting for a $bounty$ that justifies the time they have spent on the project.
-The method they found does not qualify for that bounty.
-They have a life, Vacations and a nice Summer. Why to spend it in front of a monitor?
Then how long does it usually take for a stable way to root on a new device?

Depending on the device it can take months. For example when i was developing for the Samsung S3. The USA Variant was rooted in around 1 month after the phone came out.
But the Australian one. Diff File Partition and had LTE took almost 6 months extra time to root because of the changes.
So just be patient buddy, you will know when it comes out. It's one of them things like a game bug you are waiting on. It takes time to Test it, source devices, package the software, approve the package. and test them on many phones from around the world. This all takes time cobba.
None of us want a pre-Release that could potentially BRICK our device. I didn't pay 800$ to buy a bookmark you get me?

In simple words bounty. Sooner, you raise it, earlier you get it. Just joking. I think, we all G4 users equally wants the Root on our device, nobody is an exception, sorry!
How about just use your phone. Root comes when it comes.

Devs don't usually wait for bounties to go up.It's probably more annoying on their part to hear constant whining than waiting for more money (which never pays out that much anyways). Any root method they have will qualify for the bounty I posted. The unlock bootloader will be the only part that might not qualify.

Possible Safestrap-esque recovery for our locked bootloader G4?

http://forum.xda-developers.com/android/software-hacking/tool-multirom-recovery-replacement-t3102395 I came across this thread while browsing XDA, and I didn't know if this has been tried before on the G4. It's basically a recovery replacement for a locked bootloader phone that allows us to flash multiple roms to a device with a partitioned sd card (I think, I may be wrong). I don't have any extra SD cards so I'm throwing it out here in case anyone wants to try it out and see if it works. If it does maybe we'll start to see some rom development *fingers crossed*

I used this on my Note 3 and it worked really well! It's a great recovery replacement. Unfortunately you will need developers to build their roms to support MultiSystem.
I haven't tried this on my G4 because of the lack of MultiSystem roms for it. I haven't even been able to get FlashFire to work with my G4 (it may have been the file, I tried to flash to 60 FPS mod in flashfire and it failed, it didn't cause any issues, it just didn't flash like it was suppose to).
I am really hoping for a Bootloader unlock soon, or something similar to safestrap. IMHO MultiSystem works great, but SafeStrap was a better, and easier to use solution!
FlashFire works. I'm just waiting on the roms!

Dang how are you already out in 6 months? I got this on release day and I still have a year to go. So sick of LG's skin but I can't get out early since I was dumb enough to do Verizon's device payment plan. Not that this phone is worth anything in resale.

May 2015 for the G4.. I like my v10 better. My S7 edge is okay but not worth the upgrade to me.I am planning for the lg V series upgrade or note 6.
I have until August of 2017 on mine. I upgraded to the iPhone 6 plus in August of 2015, then sold it for $500 and bought a brand new opened box G4 for $300 in February 2016. So my payment plan was for the iPhone, but in the end, I'll be paying $200 less total.

I actually did try with my one and it said it doesnt support the US variant and I thought it was the European version.
Really!!???
First people were complaining about how long root was taking and started saying it's never going to come out. Then it ends up coming out 1 month earlier than it did with the G3.
Now bootloader. Patience!!!
Devs don't get paid for this stuff, lot of them do it on their own spare time.
Week and a half until the Moto X Pure, and LG Nexus 5 (2015) probably won't be too far behind.

I know it's not the case for all devs, but some of them make really good money doing this in their spare time.
Honestly I don't think the G4 is that popular which won't attract that many talented devs that can decode LG's security boot encription. Those who can crack the code probaby don't sit around playing with cell phones anyways.

Any evidence to back up your claims?
Then define "really good money" as both a lump sum for say unlocking a boot loader and for payment per hour as that may mean something different to you than other people.
To be honest depending on how valuable your time is, it may be cheaper to purchase a EUR open LG G4...I'm tempted to do so and give my TWN version to my GF who wouldn't need things like root or unlocked boot loaders...but also need to see if it's worth it. Currently there is only one custom kernel, and I'm not that interested in that, and honestly that's the only thing I'd use the unlocked boot loader for.
Before this gets out of control, let me just say that none of the LG bootloaders on previous models were ever unlocked. The G2 was pretty popular and still has a locked bootloader. I haven't even heard of any recent LG devices to get unlocked bootloaders and very surprised that the G4 international variant even has this option.
So the question "why don't we have unlocked bootloaders" is an unrealitic question based on prior history.
The REAL question, would be "now that we have root, is there any discussion or development in having a custom recovery or bootloader bypass?"
I also want to ADD that NONE of the LOLLIPOP firmwares have been hacked (as far as I know). Both the G2 and G3 required to use a KitKat aboot partition setup that allowed us to install custom recoveries and such.
Personally, if I were a developer, I would delay the release a week for every one of these posts found for the phone Im unlocking the bootloader for.
Id even make a notice when a post like this would pop up, showing proof that Im delaying the unlocked bootloader release, just to piss off the impatient people, which, typically, are the ones least capable of doing it themselves.
