tmobile note 4 reception/LTE on ATT network

I've been hearing a lot of stories that users using a t mobile note 3 on the ATT network were having issues with reception and getting and holding onto LTE. Seems like an important enough topic to deserve its own thread. Initially I'd like to see issues with the Note 3 as I'm still deciding which carrier model I'll go with, but eventually we can put information on the Note 4 when its released.
I may just eat the locked bootloader with ATT. Really the only things I would miss are xposed modules and titanium, I'm not into custom roms anyhow. Tmobile reception is just too horrible in my area so staying on their network isn't an option.
EDIT: Also wondering if the Tmobile phone can use the ATT Microcell? Also can the Tmobile do tethering on the ATT network?
Edit2: I'd love to see some db numbers as it seems just judging reception by bars is highly inaccurate, most users don't even realize tmobile uses 4 bars versus ATT's 5 bars.
I have the at&t note 3 and the the tmobile note3.I have been using the tmobile note 3 on at&t service since the day it came out. I get the same coverage as the at&t model including lte with no problems sometimes better on the tmobile version. I will be buying the note 4 on tmobile Again to use with my att service until the note edge comes out. I will be buying the tmobile note 4 version again thus year because of the att locked bootloader crap. I can live without the roms but not root access, xposed and wanam apk take care pretty much of the rom stuff. It takes to long to get root on the att model. Look how long we had to wait last year just for root and the bootloader is still locked tight, with no promise of ever being unlocked. The tmobile note 4 will be probally rooted in the first week if release., Bye, Bye, AT&T PHONES ,YOU SUCK AT&T..
I was one of the people to use the TMO Note 3 on AT&T who had reception issues. HSPA+ reception was fine, LTE reception was awful. It wouldn't even pick it up in areas where an iPhone 5 would sit with 2 LTE bars.
Having used the TMO S5 on AT&T, I didn't have any problems. The note 4 should be fine.

Had nothing but LTE reception issues with my TMO Note 3 on AT&T. For this alone, I'll pick up the AT&T Note 4. I don't have much need for root nowadays anyway.
I've been using the T-mobile Note 3 on AT&T for a year now and haven't had reception issues. It does switch to HSPA+ from LTE earlier than my ATT note 2 did but the db signal strength was the same.
Having root is an absolute must for me. I have to have adaway, truecrypt (EDS), debloat, and Titanium backup. I would pull my hair out (what's left of it) looking at all the ads on my phone.

I'd rather have reception than the very few remaining reasons to root these days as I use my phone for business and it's crucial. It may be a small difference or large, but I can't take that chance. Really the last reason I root is titanium and xposed.
My G3 (AT&T variant) has real trouble holding onto LTE, and my Nexus 5 was much the same way.
Makes me think a lot of it is just their network.
I had much better LTE signal/performance on T-Mobile. But better overall voice coverage with AT&T.
I'm also on ATT considering getting the TMo version for unlocked bootloader. Is there a map that shows which bands my city uses (or does it matter)?
Thanks,
-PDX
I am getting the TMO N4 to put on AT&T also. I don't have any plans to put any custom roms on it but I figured if I was going to pay full price for a phone I might as well get all the options. I am trying to decide if I am going to pay to have it unlocked before the 40 days that TMO requires or just wait it out.

If root is an absolute must for you, then what's going to happen when root is completely locked down? It seems like things are going that direction. Will you not use a smartphone anymore?

I'm hoping that you're right and it's not just wishful thinking. I don't need roms, I really just need root.

Ya, they are slowly backing us into a corner. I don't like google's stance on no sd card slots with nexus devices. Soooooo, as long as T-mobile keeps unlocked bootloaders (which is a free pass to root) I'll probably stay with Samsung.

It's already here. Chainfire released it a few days ago. (for the t-mobile version)
I've been using an unlocked T-Mobile note 3 since it came out with no issues with LTE speeds/coverage. I want the note 4 but hadn't read anywhere that it was confirmed to have an unlocked bootloader. Has anyone confirmed that the bootloader is unlocked? Also are the bands going to cover us for all our services on att? Also att is coming out with LTE-A soon, will the note 4 unlocked support it?

There are some initial reports of people receiving TMO devices over in the TMO forums, you may want to ask there.

Hopefully it's the same case for the AT&T and VZW versions. I really don't want to have to sell it immediately and then go through the process of buying a TMO one.
Would've done that outright, but I can't afford it at full retail. Had to go with a 2yr upgrade and the BB promotion.
u-dig?
Of course the tmo version doesn't work perfect out of the box, but after some minor modifications it will work beautifully!
I've had a tmo note 3 over a year with excellent results!!!
You will need to configure the build prop and configure the apn for ATT..
Then enjoy!

Can You unlock an ATT Note 4 To work on T mobile? I tried out The service I have never seen data speeds so fast before In my life. 70 down 20 up. Will the bootloaders Unlock if I have The phone unlocked for their Network?

Just curious . I have the tmo note 4 running on Att for about 4 to 5 months now. The only thing that changed was the APN. Everything is working fine.
What changes did you have to make to build prop?

How long till we get s6 edge + update?

I'm in the same situation can we flash a tmobile note 4 rom onto the verizon note 4 910v with no issues?
TMobile Note4 ROM on Verizon Note4?
I too am in this dilemma of wanting to switch to TM from VZ because my VZ 4G has gotten so slow compared to TM.

It WILL work. Sounds like they just wanted to sell you a phone I've been using TM on my 910V for the last 4 months with absolutely no issues whatsoever. With the T-Mobile sim card inserted, go to Settings -> Network Settings -> Access Point Names (I'm on CM13 so the names might be slightly different)
From there, create a new APN, then name it whatever you'd like. Enter information into the fields from T-Mobile's website here: https://support.t-mobile.com/docs/DOC-2090
Then, save the APN and select it in the APN list by toggling the radio button. It should work just fine now.

Thanks. I use the SM-N910T and SM-N910V.
I've loaded sooo many custom ROMs on the Verizon Note 4 that work fine with T-Mobile.
IF I load a semi-stock or stock Verizon ROM, the device refuses to work on T-mobile.
(No matter what APNs are used.) My guess is the newer BL.
This is just ANOTHER way our lovely US carriers grab us by the balls and say, "Your device is Unlocked and Free to use on any other CDMA/GSM carrier."
Don't you believe them!
On another note; Has anyone been able to Unlock the BL on ATT models yet???

Out of curiosity, what bootloader firmware were you running when you had trouble with this? I had stock ROM + CPG2 and didn't have any issues using T-Mobile.
Hey guys, so I successfully unlocked boot loader, and flashed twrp. I Am now flashing the hybrid firmware. I will then boot to recovery, wipe, and flash a T-Mobile Rom. Correct? By the way I use cricket service. Thanks

Its more about the radio inside and which frequencies it uses......so if tmobile doesnt use a bandwidth that verizon does or your phone doesnt pick up what tmobile puts out you will have a useless phone......that is if you can find tobile rom that will even boot on your phone....some phones do cross over and run on different carriers....ive personally seen an att Iphone running verizon...but every phone is different and results are sketchy depending on the area you live in due to the frequencies used are also different in different areas!.....I wish I could give you specifics for your phone and area but I just dont know that kind of info....it is available but you will have to research that! Good luck!

Verizon Note 4 to T-Mobile Note 4
I've inherited a Verizon Note 4 (SM-N910V) Retail from a grandfather who can no longer see to use it. He was on Verizon (obviously) and I am using T-Mobile. I was going to use this as my daily driver to replace my Honor 5X. Obviously, the Note 4 is a better phone and the 5X doesn't really work all that well with T-Mo's features anyways.
I've tried just inserting the sim and adding the T-Mo APN, but I can only get phone service in the Akron, Ohio area, no data. According to GSMArena here https://www.gsmarena.com/samsung_galaxy_note_4_(usa)-6758.php the phone should have Band 12 (which is supposed to be T-Mo's 4G in my area).
My goal here is two-fold: to fix the bootloader to allow rooting and remove the Verizon and Samsung bloatware, and then flash this ROM: https://forum.xda-developers.com/note5/general/romtesting-t3380186 The Resurrection Remix ROM 5.6.8. This would "essentially" make the phone a T-Mobile phone and is supposed to allow their Wi-Fi calling feature.
The Note 4 phone I have is running Android 6.0.1, baseband N910VVRU2CQ12, and Kernal v. 3.10.40 from Sep 4, 2017.
The question is: What is the safest and easiest way to root this thing, and has anyone here used the Rez Remix T-Mobile ROM?
I've been reading through many threads that explain the process:

i believe phone companies only say that because they want you to buy one of there crap bloatware phones its a marketing strategy or trick to lock you into a payment plan

S7 questions from abroad

Sorry about title, but had a hard time to find something more catchy.
Half a year ago, I decided to import the S7 Active as my new phone.
My decision for the S7 active, was based upon my experience with a S7 from work.
Based on my requirements of actual buttons and ruggedized phone, only Samsung's XpressCover was available here in Europe. But XpressCover had an inferior screen resolution and CPU. And for the same price I could import a refurbished S7 Active.
However, did I shoot myself in the foot?
Mostly asking due to OTA updates.
I know S7 Active is a Samsung phone sold exclusively through AT&T, but I would believe/"have faith in" that customer would be able to change carrier and still be able to update the Android.
Right now I am on Android 7.0, June 1 patch (G891AUCU2BQF2), but from what I understand there are newer updates available?
Is there any Custom ROMs available for the S7 Active which would have regular OTA updates?
E.g like Lineage OS eventhough they do not support the S7 Active. It could be a bonus since since I could then get rid of the AT&T bloatware.
Last small question. Is AT&T faking their 4G coverage. Here in Europe I am always connected to a 4G network (4G data logo) on the phone even when it is connected to a 3G/UMTS signal (UMTS confirmed with apps and *#*#4636#*#* menu)
Unfortunately, OTA updates only work on ATT inside the US. There is a thread in this forum where you can find info on how to do manual updates:
https://forum.xda-developers.com/s7...sm-g891a-ota-updates-firmware-t3540866/page48
As far as I know, it is not possible to fix this with Custom ROM..
I have also noticed that it shows 4g even when I'm actually on 3g. Not sure why it does that.
Hey staffeyx thanks for your reply.
I found the link too later on, and yes verdict is, there will never be OTA updates, unless I get an AT&T subscription (actually been thinking of a prepaid/pay-as-you-go card and update by WiFi).
However in meantime, I have found an offline method for installing official updates.
This guy has all the updates https://cloud.mail.ru/public/BGy7/gKs4xzhRE/
I placed the updated on sdcard, rebooted into recovery mode and "Apply update from SD card"
Only downside is that it will wipe the entire phone too, so remember to backup data before. This might just be me too new/noob about android, but I thought such partial updates only would wipe phone if I selected "wipe data" after the update.
