Kodi won't scan sources - Fire TV Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Very frustrating night. Somehow android file transfer froze my mac so i needed to reboot. After that mysql, which ran fine before, would not start. Probably should've tried to fix it but wound up trying to reinstall it and never got it working again (it installs but won't start. Don't get to create a user for kodi.). So the plan was start tomorrow. For now I'd just rescan in my video sources.
I removed the sources then added the new ones. It lets me select them, it lets me set content, but then nothing happens...
Tried it on a 3 aftvs. I can play the sources over smb but they just won't scan. I did all the basic stuff I have the energy left for like rebooting router, restarting kodi, aftv etc.
If anyone has encountered this please give your input. Thanks.
BTW--if anyone's had issues running mysql on mac 10.10.4 I'd be interested in knowing if you had issues. I just took this OS X update like a month ago and it's been running flawlessly. Pretty sure this is the first time I needed to reboot and that's when mysql stopped for good. More info--the past few days Mac would sometimes give the message unable to find 192.xxx.xx however, it would connect just fine over smb. I'm confused and tired
Edit--pretty sure I figured out the Kodi issue. All 3 machines have advancedsettings and sources specific to mysql. If I manually remove them the library should update again. But the mysql on Mac problem still baffles me...

Ouya Not Booting Properly

SO I have attempted to contact Ouya over the past few months with ZERO response. I'm hoping someone here can help.
So first up. I have no Internet where my Ouya is located. It had internet when I first got it and worked fine without it.
I have an Ouya and it worked flawlessly up until it would no longer get to the main splash screen. It kept asking for a wifi connection that HAD to have internet. Never did that before.
Then a few days later it would no longer boot properly. It now just sits at the little Ouya circle forever. We attempted to wait 3 days before giving up and shut it off. When I plug in a USB keyboard and attempt a ALT + PNT SCN + i the ouya just freezes.
Anyone able to help me out?
EDIT: I want to point out that I can connect the Ouya to my Windows 8 system and see all the files on the console.

If you havent installed adb yet => do it. After this you can use adb to start applications on your box. For beeing able to start an app it seems like you need to unzip the apk and look into the apps xml file to figure out the name of the method for starting it. (I really dont get it why there is no standard entry point for android apps?!) You can start system setup, an alternative launcher (Nova launcher works pretty) good and go into system settings for changing you wireless setup. Best is probably you hook youre box up somewhere with an 10Base-T Cable and configure the ethernet on the box.
Its said on the Ouya HP that this bug might result from a wrong clock setting. So you might want to check this before you do anything else. I had the same problem and did go away after hooking up my box via ethernet and reboot it a couple of times.
(I am pretty new to adb/ouya n stuff so there might be better solutions)

[Q] Load Times With XBMC

Dear Smart People,
I current have a a 2 TB HD and a 1 TB HD in a jbod setup going to my airport extreme (older model). The drives are both formatted with mac os x journaled since thats what the airport supports. When I launch xbmc it takes between a minute to 4 minutes to load certain files. It streams fine from 1channel and other online sources. I have tried running a cat 5 cable to the fire tv from the router and that still has slow load times. I have gone so far as to buy a new HD enclosure. I need your guys help to figure out why the load times are so bad. Any ideas will defiantly be helpful.
Best Regards,
Josh
Latest Information
alright guys,
after hours of testing I realized if I got thru the video tab then to files and play my file thru there it loads very very quickly. I was hoping someone could shed some light on the fact that if I got thru the TV Shows tab of confluence it takes a long time to load. I really could use some help since I am stumped. Can't wait to see what people say!
Josh
How are you adding files -- smb share, UPnP?
they are connected to an airport extreme using the AFP file sharing. this worked perfectly on my ATV. I have done some internet research and have found out that the database maybe corrupt after it scans the files in since it loads very fast from the files menu. Please let me know how to fix this. I have a pastebin with my log file
UPDATE:
I have changed the location of the files to use SMB and now it appears to be working very well. Thank you so much for everyones help!

MySQl on Fire TV

***You can disregard the following. About 20 minutes after posting this I solved my issues. I'm still a little baffled because it was basically the same fix I tried earlier (overwriting MyVideos.DB) except this time it populated all my thumbnails. Anyway it's working.
I know this isn't specific to Fire TV but thought I'd take a chance someone here has a similar setup. I've been trying to get this to work for 3 days.
Mysql was simple to setup and I got it working on my 2 rooted AFTVs very quick. But the stick (obviously unrooted) creates a different myVideos.db. The 2 rooted AFTVs have MyVideos92.db and the stick has MyVideos93.db
(Yes. They're all running the same Kodi version)
The boxes are in perfect sync but the stick seems to be working differently.
I fire up mysql on a macbook then push advanced settings and sources to all my devices. The 2nd AFTV will immediately begin to populate the library. But the stick just has the sources that I need to scan. And it doesn't track my watched status like the boxes do.
Not 100% sure this would work, I went ahead and took the MyVideos92.db and pushed it to my stick. It worked and the stick had a full, identical library to my boxes BUT no thumbs?
***And here's ^^^^^^where I think I discovered the issue but if I have to apply the fix, I think I might want to reconsider mysql. The difference between my AFTVS and the stick are that I modified my advancedsettings.xml on the boxes to store thumbs on external. I'm thinking that's why it doesn't work when I just send the unmodified xml to the stick AND when I just try to overwrite the MyVideos.db manually I end up with a full library but no thumbs.
I'm pretty sure I could get this to work by just removing my advanced settings to move thumbs to external on AFTVs but I'd rather not because it saves a ton of space. Can someone please help me figure out a way to fix this? Or even better tell me how you're already accomplishing it...Thanks.

Kodi addons not working on fire stick, avoid initial fire stick update

I've been using xda forums for a while now but never registered, now inevitably I have a problem.
Yesterday was asked by a friend if i could put Kodi on a firestick, never done it before but I thought what the hell I'll give it a go, read around and all easy enough. Now I have Kodi installed I've put TVaddons on there and used that to get all the usual stuff, Exodus, Phoenix, SALTS etc they work fine i.e. install and load fine all menus are there but non of them can find any sources, exodus wont even bring up TV or movie lists. like i said I've never done this before but I have Kodi working fine on my computer so thought it wouldn't be any different. I've tried clearing caches and sources, uninstalled reinstalled, downloaded exodus zip file just incase tvaddons was the problem and nothing I'm at a loose end. Any ideas or help would be greatly appreciated.
Side note something I may be able to help with, i read recently (on here i think) that the fire stick will auto update on initial setup to the latest OS and to avoid this so you can root or for whatever reason, rather than plugging the stick into the provided power adaptor use one you have laying around or your computer, they don't provide enough power for the stick to be able to update. Hope that helps someone out there.
Are you sure you're connected to internet?

yes I'm definitely connected to the internet haha.
just got a new fire stick and stopped the auto updates just in case it was that but still the addons don't seem to want to work my stick now running OS 5.0.5.1
everything installs fine, internet connections fine, addons go on fine they just dont work fine I'm at a loss
I installed Kodi for the first time the other day. Never used it before, still setting up. But I noticed the first few add ons I tried failed, like Exodus, All In One, DNA TV. None of them work. Figured it was me since I am new to Kodi. I figured it would be easy as installing and using them. Found TV guide. Tried 30 TV stations and none came on. I have a bunch to learn with Kodi. I have stock aftv1, lan connection. So its not just you.
I honestly don't know what was wrong with its but after what felt like a million uninstalls and re-installs i now have 2 working fire sticks with kodi running fine, don't think i will ever get to the bottom of the problem i was having the only thing i can suggest to anyone having similar issues is persistence, just keep reinstalling and eventually it seems to work, the only thing i can possibly think of is my internet connection has been playing up recently so maybe during the set up it disconnected and reconnected without me even noticing and messed up the setup other than that i have no idea.
Basically, Kodi isn't an organization which offers hardware at any level. It is an open source program or project, a group of volunteers who are committed to building a cool video player for various computers and mobile phones on such a large number of stages. It is basically planned to be utilized for video documents put away on your PC. It additionally empowers you to utilize additional items; these are straightforward contents which give you access to a wide range of content online. There are multiple solutions to fix this error.
Solution 1: Updating Graphics Card Drivers and installing DirectX.
Solution 2: Tweaking Kodi itself.
Solution 3: Installing Add-ons manually instead of Builds.
Solution 4: Clearing add-on cache. Solution 5: Using a VPN.

Suddenly, neither FTV can connect to Win 7 SMB shares, no matter what!

I've set aside one of my home-built Windows 7 desktop computers for hosting about 12-15 TB of movies and TV shows and general media that I very frequently watch/listen with my two full Fire TV gen 2's (not sticks) via wired Ethernet. I share the five separate drive's media folders via simple Windows sharing (i.e., SMB).
Two days ago (20-Jan-2019), I made a backup clone of my system partition (and ensured that this didn't produce a partition ID collision). Naturally, I continued to use the original system disk/partition. But when I rebooted afterwards, neither of my Fire TVs could connect to any of those shares! Now, this has happened many times over the years, but really only when I copy folders/files from one of my other computers to the server over the local LAN. And every single time this has happened, the 100% absolutely certain fix was to simply reboot the host machine. That has always worked.
But not anymore !
I've rebooted the host machine about 10 times, and restarted both Fire TVs several times, and I can connect to all the media drives and media files perfectly from all my other Windows computers on my LAN. I've also rebooted the router a couple of times. But without changing anything, neither of my Fire TVs will connect. Not only won't they connect to the usual host machine, they won't connect to any of my other four Windows machines either.
If I had changed anything at all, naturally I would start looking there. But I have changed nothing at all. And I've used the recommended procedure to block Amazon from updating my Fire TVs, so nothing should have changed there -- unless anyone knows if Amazon tried to push an update in the last few days?
By the way, although Microsoft pushed out a bad Windows 7 update on 8-Jan-2019 that affected SMB sharing (and a subsequent patch was released), that update had never been installed on any or my machines. Nevertheless, on the machine in question I installed the new patch anyway, but it didn't fix or change anything.
Also, I've tried repeatedly to start from scratch and connect via host name, share name, username and password, but nothing is ever found that way, either. I should add that when I try to add a new source or edit an existing one by beginning not from scratch but rather from SMB, I never see my workgroup name (though I've reset it and then changed it to the correct value several times). In the past, whenever I didn't see my workgroup name there, I knew I was in for difficulties in connecting to any SMB share (although the username/password approach always worked in that case).
I am DESPERATE for a solution! Please see if you might be able to help.
Thanks!
So I'm utterly and totally stuck! What should I do now?
