Hi,
Is there any option, hacks, settings or customised rom or something for second sim card's 2G connection (it says supports edge connection) ?
Second sim does not support any data connection only 2g calls, only sim 1 supports data enabled
Sent from my ASUS_Z00AD using Tapatalk
Second sim surely can support data but will need some deep hack because you will first enable modem to allow data connection and second at OS level some tweaks.
Thanks for your suggestions but anything else?
There must be a real solution, i'm gonna search deeply about this.
Thanks anyway

Bad dual sim management
Better late than never, right?
You find "dual sim management" in the phone's settings.
This is where you can activate and deactivate each sim and where you set the preferred sim for mobile data.
So, yes, you can easily switch the sim that's being used for mobile data.. However, the BIG restriction is, that the sim 2 radio only supports 2G (up to EDGE). So, in order to use high speed internet from the provider whose sim is located in slot 2 you actually have to swap the sim cards. Also, there's no way to automatically switch to the other network's mobile data in case you lose mobile data coverage on the preset network . You really have to tell the phone manually which network to use.
Another big issue for me is that I can't preset the network I use for calls. So, my sim 1 is for data only. sim 2 is for voice calls and texts. Remember: it has to be this way because only sim 1 supports 3G/4G. Now, when I initiate a call via voice or via my car's bluetooth unit the phone automatically tries to use sim 1 as the default for calls. I can't set it up to use sim 2 as the default call handler and there's no dialogue asking me which sim to use like when I dial manually. That's really bad, all other companies that offer dual sim phones have better management options in their software's settings.
I tried using alternative phone apps which give you the option of choosing a default sim for calls but this only works for voice-dialing; bluetooth still overrides the alternative dialer and always goes with the stock one.
I hope this helps - so actually I'd advice agaist the M8 dual sim despite it being beautiful and having really good hardware.

Hi All,
While fiddling with the CM12 for couple of days, I have found a Work Arround which will activate SIM-1 Mobile data connection. After installing CM12, I found that data only works on SIM2, and its a 3G connection. Which should not be the case as SIM2 is only meant for 2G connection. Whatever the reason may be lets move on the steps that we need to follow to switch data to SIM1.
Please note: Dual sim is still not supported by this Cm12 on A5_DWG variant. If you have inserted 2 sim cards, DO NOT try to call using the SIM2. System freeze will be inevitable. So its advisable to use only 1 SIM.
Step 1 > First, insert the sim in SIM2 slot. Let is detect. Couple of minutes after, Mobile Data will activate.
Step2 > Once, you see a (E) or (H+) icon, activate Airplane Mode.
Step3 > Now while on Airplane Mode, take out the sim from SIM2 slot. Deactovate Airplane Mode.
Step4 > Now insert the sim in SIM1 slot. Data will activate.
Now, go to Dialer and type *#*#4636#*#* and change the mode to WCDMA Preffered.
Profit: SIM1 data works, Signal reception is stable. Call quality is good.
Remember, that you need to follow all the steps every time you reboot your phone.
Laslty, hit thanks if I was able to help you.

Are you getting 3g network? More over just switch sim to slot one and test
Sent from my Desire 816 dual sim using XDA Free mobile app

Yeah, it shows 3G connectivity but speed is very slow. Similar to edge connection you can say. I'll test sim 1 tomorrow.

Hi guys, I wanted to open this thread to expose the quite strange behavior I am observing on my oneplus 3.
I use two sims. Both have 3G and LTE fully compatible with op3 bands.
Here is the behavior I am witnessing:
1) Let say I start my phone with data enabled on sim 1.
2) phone starts I have data on sim 1 no data sim 2.
3) I start tethering using the wifi hotspot feature. I connect either with an iPad or W7 or W10 laptop
4) devices can access the Internet using op3 hotspot.
5) now I deactivate hotspot. I switch sim data from sim 1 to sim 2.
6) after a minute or so sim 1 no longer has data enabled and sim 2 has 3G/LTE access through the phone.
7) I switch tethering back on.
8) none of my devices are able to access the internet despite having internet directly with the phone.
Only workaround is to restart the phone with data on sim 2 enabled in order to get data access using tethering on sim 2
Based on my experience, is this an expected behavior?
If choose I tried switching sim slots but no luck. I am questioning myself. Is it an issue on one of the sims or Wirth thé phone?
Anyone had a similar experiencece to share?
Thanks
I've been having a similar issue:
OP3 with OOS 3.2.7.
I have two 4G SIMs, one 3 UK and one EE UK. I can use data (3G/4G) on either without issues and swap between them via the settings on the phone, no problem. I can tether on the 3 UK SIM no problem, both with and without the EE SIM in the second slot or first slot.
The EE SIM will not tether at all in the phone, no matter if it is by itself, with the 3 SIM, in slot 1 or 2, but the SIM does work and tether in my trusty Nexus 4.
I've checked the APN settings and done a network settings reset (Settings > Backup & reset > Network settings reset) but nothing helped.
There's a similar thread on the OnePlus forums here.
Hey!
My network operator supports VoWiFi feature, which i'm using a lot. I'm traveling quite often and using VoWiFi i can use voice services using domestic prices worldwide.
I have dual SIM card phone, in the second slot i have data sim.
Here the question comes - is there any way to configure a phone to use VoWiFi feature over data connection from the second SIM?
Essentially VoWiFi feature requires just internet connection, so in theory such approach should work, but do not know if it is possible to configure the phone this way.
Would appreciate any help
Gentlemen,
Any help would be appreciated.
I do have workaround - to use the second phone, share WiFi from it and then i can use VoWiFi on my main phone. But it' super inconvenient - you always need to care 2 phones.
If you know any apps/solutions please let me know.
I have dual SIM and I am able to have Wifi Calling enabled on both SIMs at the same time.
However - you are talking about VoLTE if you're talking about using the data connection on the second SIM rather than a WiFi connection.
Again, however, this should be possible - I can enable VoLTE on both SIMs. It's under Mobile Data in the Settings app...

VoLTE is different technology and is charged in my case differently. That's the reason i'm looking for an option to use data sim that the main sim uses this data connection for the call simulating "VoWiFi" and hence use domestic rates for the calls.
As i said above i can emulate this with two phones, but i still hope to find a solution where i can archive that with only one phone.
I'm looking for the same solution. My note 8 is rooted. The best I can do is set WiFi Calling as preferred over Network calling, but as soon as I activate Data for SIM#2, I lose WiFi calling and VoLTE for first SIM. Very inconvenient. Anyone have any clues how to force WiFi Calling using Data of SIM#2 ?
