So I found out ALL of my power woes were caused by tilt to wake screen. I teach for a living so I move a lot through the day. I couldn't get 7 hours out of the thing, but now that I have tilt to wake off I'm getting 1.5+ days... I love tilt to wake

Only thing you can do is drop the brightness down to 1 and change the timeout to 5 seconds, not sure how much battery you will save though....

I want to use smart alarm, but don't like the idea of leaving my screen on all night. Is there anyway to get around this requirement, or another app that i just don't know about?
Klaxon does not require you to leave the screen on as well as the stock (Sense) alarm.
Nevermind...
Ummm haha confused now

I've been using mine as an alarm clock with the screen on and the backlight on low every night for about 3 months now. I've noticed no ill effects. I was under the impression that LCD screens are immune to "burn-in" and the LED backlight should have a really long life, so I haven't been too worried about it.
Huh? I use mine as an alarm clock but it doesn't require me to leave screen on.
Sent from my EVO4G using Tapatalk.
The smart alarm requires the screen to be on because of a bug in android that turns the accelerometer off when the screen goes off. It is one of those 'smart' alarms that is supposes to sense the sleep cycle.
I think I will use it with the screen on for a while. I want to see of these alarms really work.

leaving the screen on is not a problem. the evo does not have an AMOLED screen, it uses LCD. the O in AMOLED is subject to deterioration and will get burn in the more the screen is used and the brighter the screen is.
LCD does not suffer this. go ahead and leave the screen on.
Thanks everyone!

If any of the devs feel like doing it, sure lol. I could see some battery drain issues though because that means the front buttons would have to be polling still when the screen is off.
I'm usually all for extra possibilities, but this one is kinda meh.
Why would anyone ever prefer sliding over pushing a hardware button once?
This would be great to extending the life of the phone's natural power button...but I'd be on to a different phone long before this button mechanism on my phone have a chance to think of failing. Maybe good for people who keeps there phone for over 2 years?
Palm pre wants its life back....

Might open in your pocket too against your leg. looks neat though
This would be faster. I hope someone ports the mod.

How would it be faster to swipe across all 4 capacitive buttons than press the power button? Pressing the power button takes literally a split second. Keep in mind this mod doesn't unlock the phone, it just turns the screen on. You still have to unlock from the lock screen like you normally would. I agree it would likely drain the battery because the phone could never fully sleep if it's constantly looking for input from the capacitive buttons.

Anything to make the power button last longer I'm for..
I could see the phone getting unlocked constantly in your pocket.
My screen times out often, especially while reading... I hate reaching for the power button. To me this would be easier. However 2 things will keep me away:
1. Battery Life concern
2. Unlock in the pocket
I would definitely try it
i have beenw anting this since the og evo...i dont have the biggest hands and loved how all the older android phones had hard buttons at the bottomt hat made it wake
PLEASE PORT THIS SOMONE PLEASEEEEEEEE
This port would be nice.
I'm getting ready to take a ~3 hour trip in a couple days and was considering using my phone as a GPS. My question is will I see any screen burn on my GNex using it as a GPS for 3 straight hours? I know screen burn is a problem with this phone so I'm inclined to believe I will, but I thought I'd ask anyway. Surprisingly enough, searching this topic doesn't return any results. Maybe my google-fu is rusty..........lol
How many hours have the nav buttons been displayed? Longer than 3 hours? Yes. I don't think you'll have any problems

That's true, but it usually isn't 3 consecutive hours. That was what concerned me more, not the total time but the total consecutive time. I wasn't sure if that made a difference in how screen burn happens. Thanks for the reply, though.
I just came back from a 1600 km journey, and used my galaxy nexus for navigation for most of the trip. Yes, 3 hours plus will cause burn in, but my solution to this is to turn off the screen as the voice commands still work with the screen off. You can turn on the screen anytime if there is a complicated section.
Hope this helps.
You can indeed turn the screen off, or you can even flash a rom or mod that allows for hiding the navigation buttons for the duration of your trip.

OK. That's probably what I'll end up doing. The post below yours suggests turning off navbar icons during the trip. Was it just the home, back and recent apps buttons that burned into yours or is it part of the GPS interface that burns too? I plan to use Google Maps for the trip, in case it makes a difference. I like the visual of the maps better than the audio commands, but I also like my screen without burn-in. I've been lucky so far so I don't want to mess it up now. lol
Thanks for the helpful replies!!
This app is MY FAVORITE ANDROID APP EVER.
- Virtually zero battery drain
- I never ever EVER have to touch on/off button now
- Tons of customization settings
- FREE FREE FREE
- Works awesome whether i'm using my poetic cover, just putting the phone loose in my pocket..or even if its just sitting out on the desk and goes to sleep (just put your finger over the sensor briefly to 'wake' it)
- You can turn off the 'auto on/off' when in landscape mode which is great..i never accidently put the phone to sleep while showing someone a video
- Set it to work automatically after rebooting phone
- Set it to automatically release the lockscreen (if you dont have a passcode)
in short..this simple app has quickly surpassed everything else i installed because it so simple and elegant!
2 thumbs up! i'm planning to buy this guy a beer or whatever his little thing says.
Interesting idea for an app, but not for me. I like to keep my phone out on my desk during most of the day and I'm not a fan of having it face down especially since I don't use a case/bumper/screen protector.
you dont need to.
it will go to sleep like it normally does. it would only turn on if you put your finger over the sensor for a second.
give it a try..you'll fall in love w/ this app!
Yes!!
I just replaced the LG bumper case with a Nillkin flip cover last night and immediately started to hate having to press the power button to unlock it. Now I just have to open the flip cover for the screen to turn on. I've only been testing it for a few minutes but so far it's been perfect.
garenzy - I leave my phone on my desk with the flip cover open as well. As nyvram1 mentioned, you just need to wave your hand over the proximity sensor and the screen turns on. It's been flawless for me so far.
Loving this app! The verdict is still out on the battery drain but I'd be willing to take a small hit on that for this new feature.

i've had this installed for over a week and haven't noticed any additional battery drain.
read the developer's notes. he explains why the battery draw from using this is negligible at best.
i LOVE this app! seriously, after using my phone for a month without it, then installing it a week ago its like i have a new phone!
I dig it, I have my bumper so putting it face down at my desk isn't an issue and it's nice not having to feel for the power button.
doesnt matter if you put it face down or face up on the desk. it will obey the normal timeout sleep if face up and you just move your finger over the sensor to 'wake it' if you need to use it.
no downsides to this app yet.

Thanks man! I have the bumper and a leather magnetic clip for when I'm working. I thought the magnet would turn it off but it was poorly worded and the magnet clip was just too keep the clasp on.
So THIS is perfect thanks man!

I haven`t installed it yet but how does this affect the lock/unlocking of screen when you put it in pockets or put it in your bag?
Installed, can't decide if I actually like it or not. Seems to flick on and off all the time despite messing with the settings. Works well when I put it in my pocket.

The lock screen always comes on after wake up. However this can be disabled in the app.

I was using smart screen on pro for the same. It used to work fine. Now installed this. In initial testing, it is working fine. Let's see how it fares. Thanks for the tip.

Guys a bit excited about an app he really likes. I love it because I have a leather case that opens like a book so this is pretty awesome.
Maybe I developed the app too

Tried it, it killed about 14% battery overnight while I slept :/ not good so uninstalled.
Fun gimmick app, I can see the usefullness when you're using a flip cover, however I don't so it's just a cool gimmick till sleep2wake becomes available for other kernels. That how i want to turn on my device

So 24hrs later it's getting uninstalled, everything seemed to be working fine but on calls/alarms/etc. it doesn't show the appropriate screen it instead shows the home screen (I did set it to go to the home screen but that was so it didn't stay stuck on the intellicover screen) so for now I'll just go back to tapping the power button
Alright guys and girls here is the problem....
On my gnex basically the three on screen buttons are purple when I press them. The home button...the multi tasking and the back button. It isn't just the buttons but the whole little strip of screen where the on screen buttons are located turn purple. I don't know what has caused this...I have had this phone for about eight months now and I have been using the phone a daily basis everyday.
Now recently I had downloaded this game called "shadow gun: deadzone" and I have noticed that after a few minutes of playing the game the device gets really hot... Especially the screen... I'm having a feeling the over use of the phones digitizer is causing the discoloration of the lower part of the screen. Any ideas will be of great help, thanks.
Sent from my Galaxy Nexus using xda app-development
Alright I figured out that after a while of just using the gnex, the screen just starts overheating and miscolors in places... This usually happens when playing a lot of high-pixilated games. If anyone else has similar problems please report.
