So I was thinking about my IR blaster in my phone today and what I could do with it.
I wanted to if the following things were physically possible using the M8.
- Distance finder or security laser beam. By transmitting IR light and bouncing it off of a mirror and then the receiver in the phone would pick it up and determine the distance or if light has been received.
- Controlling a remote control helicopter. I could imagine this is possible since the RC heli uses IR anyway, but how would I do it, since my remote control for my heli is not functional.
Thank you in advance
If you know or can get the codes for your helicopter you can program them into smart ir.
Audrino man...AUDRINO !!!

I was thinking of using Arduino, but I wasn't that desperate to do it, I was just interested if it was possible and how cool it wouldbe to do it?
Doesn't the M8 have a IR reciever to program codes into apps?

Yes if youre remote is working? :what:
What I meant by that, was that the purpose of the IR receiver was to program codes, but was it possible to use it for other purposes such as the one I mentioned in the OP?
I've thought about it, and the possibilities. It depends a lot on how much experience you have with programming. I'm no noob when it comes to programming, as I constantly hone on my c++ programming skills. I'm actually curious about it too. You should check out evilzone.org. the website has massive resources about audrino. I myself also have a lot of audrino PDFs... If interested I can send you the gdrive link
https://drive.google.com/folder/d/0B6DLHfxd4Nx-RW12SVFRMzVTREU/edit
PS....I've got a **** load of other PDFs about all kinds of programming from JavaScript to Python...

Thanks for those PDF's but the most coding I have done is Visual Basic 2010 and bit of Xcode. But I was just hoping their was already an app on the market to do such a thing or if it was physically possible for the phone to send and receive and IR signal a few times every second.
I would love to get into coding, but I just don't have the time to code and bug fix.
I haven't seen or heard of such an app...I've never enjoyed VB...Friend of mine uses VIM, but all of that PHP crap gives me a headache.

Hi
I have a project I am working on which I would need a way of making my phone (SGS3) send a sort of signal to an NFC receiver by just touching the receiver, this will trigger a number of processes on the PIC. My question is whether an NFC receiver is ready to buy and whether there are any datasheets. Also I would like for the phone to only need to touch, no other operation needed.
If you could point me in the right direction I would really appreciate it. Also since I am doing this for school there really is no budget but if the price is too high I may use something else. So yeah if you know any GOOD manufacturers of NFC receivers that would be great.
Thanks
Well, you might need a complete reader chip that can handle peer-to-peer mode. Might be hard to get one. I guess what your doing is building a microcontroller (PIC?). And youd have to build the chip into your controller and write some sort of driver for it. If that should be a small school project, I'd say rather do something else (if school = university and you actually have a lot of time, may try it). Though I haven't seen a company that sells them in low numbers.
Maybe its more suitable to add a complete nfc capable reader to it? Check libnfc for some example readers that are not to expensive.

Yeah so i want to have nfc receiver as a peripheral device for a dev board. Its high school. Also my teacher told me to use bluetooth but i feel it will be difficult to write a program to interface with it. So basically this device will feel the presence of my phone by nfc and send signal to pic. So it only needs it be like a switch action. You see the phone does not need to send any data. So simply this device has nfc receiver coil on it and when phone comes it will be either 0=no phone and 1=phone present which will trigger the pic to carry out other proccesses. Can you tell me what component i would need?
Adafruit.com has everything you need for that project. I have my s3 working with a ras pi and nfc breakout board. They even write a lot of there own drivers, but they have examples of libnfc code working with there controllers.

Hi, does the G3 have IR learning function? Anyone has tested it?

yes! it has!
I tested it. The IR learning worked very well. I learned buttons from two different remotes (a projector at work, and a cable box at home).
But, the IR sending had an issue for me. The projector buttons worked great. But at home, the cable box signals were weak (or something). I had to walk half-way to the receiver for the signals to work.
Once the US Versions are relased of the phone, I can't wait to port QRemote. The Korean version of the app is almost useless if you're in the US, save for IR learning.
The Remote works well, I have been using it for Sony TV, Blueray, Set-top box, and a Fan.
But I haven't found any success using it on the Air Conditioner??
I guess the IR command are specific and can't be learnt using the included software.
Same here ! My g3 can learn but not send them ! Please help

My wife just bought an S5, and I've really taken a liking to the Smart Remote app on that phone. It's available on the Play Store, but only if you have certain Samsung phones. I was wondering if anyone knows anything about getting this app on the G3, as I think it's a bit more comprehensive than the quick remote app we have. Anyone have any input on this?
Smart IR Remote. It's the best out imo and now has G3 support.

Pretty sure the G3 has a remote function built in via the IR Blaster for every TV and Set Top Box in the world. It's called Quick Remote. Better than the Samsung one IMO.
Thanks for the responses, but I'm looking for a way to get that specific app, not telling me about another.

Friend I have just mailed peel corp. regarding this. Let's see what they will reply... Fingers crossed
Here you go buddy.
Someone on this thread seems to have that peel remote working on his G3
He posted a link to the APK in one of the post but is not in the OP. Take a look.

Guys just a very quick question, does the new M9 come with a IR transmitter and receiver or only a transmitter? Is it still possible for the M9 blaster to learn new IR signals ?

No, it can learn IR signals
Sent from Tapatalk on either my HTC One M9 or Tab4 10.1, it kinda depends
How?
There is an mention that the M9 can learn IR signals. How then?
Mine does not respond to signal. So it seems that it has only an IR blaster and no receiver.

Maybe a software issue? Mine certainly learned signals using the Peel remote app that came on the phone

Anymote told me their app can record on the M9, that was one of the deciding factors for me to upgrade from my M7. I have a lot of devices that aren't in any code database, and the IR receiver has become invaluable to me.
So it works for you on the M9?
I See in tha app descriptoin: RECORD REMOTES - exclusive to the HTC One due to hardware limitations in other devices.
Could be any One device offcourse

It is possible to learn new IR signals.
Open the Peel Smart Remote app, open the remote, go to settings, choose your room and click on your device in the DEVICE-section.

This is not called learn new signal. The Device-section is a set of preset signal. What he meant was learn signals directly from the remote you have. Because sometimes the app does not have your device's brand/signal. Happened to me when i tried on my Fujisu air-conditioner and non of the signals worked.

It does work. Tested it out after I got the phone. However, I haven't seen any other apps besides the one I use that can do it, and last time I checked the app is I think $10. The way I see it, that's still less than a low end universal remote that CAN'T learn signals, but most Android users seem to be entitled jerks who think everything on the app store should be free, so whether or not you're willing to pay for it is your only limitation here.

That's anymote I believe. I also purchased it when I used it ALL THE TIME on my galaxy gear 2 watch. Its got codes for devices I never would have thought of controlling with a phone. I will also say that response from the developers was quick but they were also extremely rude and accused me of having a pirated copy somehow? I didn't have a fake copy obviously otherwise I wouldn't have contacted them for help! Haha either way we got it sorted and they found the code for a device I was having difficult with.

IR remotes now are being replaced with Bluetooth remotes. But would have liked to see the IR blaster not phased out.
For me it's OK, as I used it one time on my M8 and in fact never on my M9. This depends on the user of course. Just my 2 cent.

I have to admit I loved having one but sadly I never used it. All the roms I would flash... I got sick of setting it up. It will be missed but not a big deal
I use Anymote and control EVERYTHING in my house with it on my M8. Even the rotating fan has a remote.
I was hoping to get a tablet to take care of this burden, but even they don't have the ability on newer models.

The old fashioned way I suppose. Just don't do it a lot or you'll go blind
I personally I use this thing a lot. Also if I'm flashing new rom, I'm using titanium backup so I won't have to setup peel smart everytime. Very useful if you aways lose the remote ? for the TV's, audio system, air conditionin =) and etc

So true. My kids keep losing the remotes. It's nice to have all the different TVs programmed into my phone so I don't have to hunt around for them.

That's what I thought. I researched this already.
Not sure if it actually works.

It says the IR blaster is based on the level of output of the headphone jack, and from my understanding that the headphone jack on the HTC 10 is suppose to be loud due to a dedicated amp, so if it worked it should work well. The only issue is that you would either have to keep the IR blaster plugged in at all times or find it when you need it and it isn't very big.

We could get around not losing the ir blaster when not in use by using something like this ( http://www.amazon.com/Smartphone-Ph..._cp_107_1?ie=UTF8&refRID=1R3B4XGBYBXVKHZTMWRF ) connected to somthing like this ( http://www.ebay.com/itm/Female-to-F...653666?hash=item3a94914d62:g:XW4AAOxylwpR4ugb ) connected to the ir blaster attached to keys. Or if someone could find a 3.5mm jack cap that we can hook a laynard to.
Or just buy 20 ir blasters and place one everywhere.
Also here is another style ir blaster I think its lower profile and looks cool. http://www.ebay.com/itm/121870964868?_trksid=p2057872.m2749.l2649&ssPageName=STRK:MEBIDX:IT
