how hot is your desire?

Just got a replacement phone from htc due to a problem with my previous one. The thing with this so called new phone is the it gets very hot. Even the screen feels hot to the touch. All the aluminium parts are worse, tracking ball is also hot. Anyone with the same problem or is it just me
must say i have not noticed any heat issues with my desire. my wifes is fine and my sons is ok too
Mine is cool and only the battery and the bottom part(CPU there?) feel a little hot with heavy usage.
Mine can get pretty warm - probably warmer than my old touch pro - but its slimmer, more powerful and a bigger screen which i guess uses more power.
looks like i am the only person with this problem. Last night while using the phone it really got too hot to handle. I had to put the phone down to let it cool off a bit before using. Looks like i got to send HTC more e-mails again. Damn...
About 90F from the temp reading ... thats on an idle day. When doing stuff it can go up to 100-120.
Mine is getting quite warm when charging and using it at the same time but never really that hot that I couldn't handle it. Other than that it stays handwarm or cool when idle. The Desire getting as hot as you descibe it does not feel right for me, except you're using it in the desert?
Mine gets hot too.. just reading some news and the battery is 38C. Also device feels hot. Especially the lower part of the screen and back. No reboot though. Is this normal?

Mine gets quite hot when I oc.
How well do our devices toletate heat? Has anyone spoke to the allmighty allknowing HTC about this?
What is their view?
I think my Desire is cool... muahaha..
Yeah, bad joke. .
In real, it is warm when using wlan and some bits moving around, but it will get very hot if i use 3G/hsdpa.. Actually it start to warm up badly even with very light data traffic... Connection is ok with allmost allways full bars.
Nice to have this HOT device...
Aargh... bad joke day i have...
Edit: forgot to say it didnt warm up like this when oc and stress test. Have not tested/used GPS so can not say anything about it.

Mine is getting hot when i have the wifi on and surfin for hours but i get used to now,is not concerning any more
Pulled down this app called tempmonitor from the market. So far the hottest that i managed to get for the battery temp was 45degrees. I think that is pretty hot.
My phone was 160 the other day in the car while listening pandora.
Sent from my HTC Desire using XDA App
hmm yeah after some internet browsing my battery temp was at 40 degrees celsuis the other day. It did feel hot but then again other smart phones heat up too i guess so i have come to accept it
Ever since i started to use the desire i have been having problems with my sd card. I dont know why but i keep getting this error message "sd card damaged" i got to reformat the card every time. Data loss is making my blood boil, i never had this problem when i was using this card with the touch pro2. Could it be that because of the heat that the card keeps getting damaged?

Handset getting very hot

Hi all,
I know this has been asked before but instead of hijacking someone else’s thread I thought it best to start my own.
I got the HTC one X last Saturday (07/04/12) I have been messing around and getting used to the phone for a week now as I was an iPhone user. So I have not done much with the phone lately. Today I decided on my lunch break to play the game Where's My Water. After about 20 mins I noticed that the screen was very hot. In fact it was that hot it was uncomfortable to touch (mainly at the top) also the back of the phone (mainly at the top) was hot.
I know some people have mentioned that the handset get warm but mine is getting very hot, is this normal for this phone or would this be classed as a fault?? If this is a fault what should I do, contact HTC or go back to the retailer?
Thanks
As far as I know, you would check with retailer for replacement, if this turns out to be a defect. Mine never got that hot, but I don't remember playing for more than few minutes.
THanks schriss for a quick responce. I would also like to hear from other users who have done a bit of gaming on the phone to see if they also experience the same heat issue.
I have this problem too, but I've seen many others report this so I'm wondering if this is just the way the phone is made.
Is there any definitive way to find out how hot my phone gets, without relying on my feeling, such that I can send some actual numbers to HTC support/cross verify with you guys that this is actually an individual phone defect, and not just bad design present on all of the HOXs?
How much is infrared/laser thermometer?
---------- Post added at 03:24 PM ---------- Previous post was at 03:01 PM ----------
I just launched Shadowgun for 5 mins and phone got worm, not nowhere near "hot". It didn't become wormer and wormer, just stayed "worm".
mine tends to get really warm on charging and when im on a long duration call..otherwise its okay..
Official HTC Statement: HTC One X is normal to overheat
Well that's a big party pooper.
JayceOoi: My wife found the exact same link yesterday at work and sent it to me. I decided to try and call the retailer anyway and they agreed to swap it out. So today I have a new phone and will need to pop it on charge tonight and see what it does after a gaming session.
I know they can get warm but not the temps I was getting Fingers crossed.
It's subjective.. I guess until we all get infrared/laser temp, we can't compare. For me it never gets hot, its always either worm or very worm, but I would never call it hot.

I have this problem of overheating too...
which is also playing games mostly
at the top part too...
I knew how hot it was by using this app called batter indicator
it went to 55 degrees Celcius and as mentioned by the previous post it's normal
it always happens though, whenever I play games and have to stop
I'm also wondering whether I should check with my retailer
may I know where you got your phone from?
Abernus: How is the result of your new set?
for me i experienced this one time , i was just starting a call and i felt the phone is getting so hot next to my ear , i ended the call as soon as i can ( it was my boss , i dont htin he will belive me if i told her that i have to end up the call becaus emy phone is geytting hot ) and the device temp didn't go down so i turned it off for a while the turned it , it seemed fine after that
I noticed mine was getting quite hot today just in stand by mode it shut its self off after a while, think i may have a fault on the handset as when i checked to see how the battery was doing just before it shut down it was on 28%
This happened to me browsing for 20 minutes straight on the 1.28 OTA. The battery monitor was reading 55C. I do not understand the reason for all this heat. I guess I can see gaming getting it that hot, but browsing with no Flash?
Needless to stay I think I'm going to stick with the Galaxy Nexus for a while longer and send back the One X. Too many issues for a $700 phone.
Well after having my new handset for a few days now I can confirm it gets nowhere near as hot as the old one did. However there is a different fault now. The screen seems loose in one corner of the device.
I have been reading reports of screen flexing. When I press (not hard) on the bottom left of the screen you have hear the screen stick back down the pop up again. If you give it a slightly harder press it will stay stuck for a while and then pop back up. There is no visible gap between the screen but there is play in the screen. Not sure if I should take this one back or just leave it as the phone still works.

Mine went for 100% to 70% in 1 hour and i was not running anything on it, it got hot just under the camera, it went up to 45.9c , I checked running processes and facebook was using 10% my highest process, strange how i have never even used it, I killed it and it re-appeared, I decided to re-boot the phone and everything went back to normal.
I have not played a single game on my HOX since i got it, so much for ICS , and android closing down misbehaving software automatically.

[Q] Buying HTC One X

Hello.
I'm looking to buy a new phone and HTC One X looks like a decent option.
I currently own a XPERIA Mini Pro by Sony Ericsson and it had served me quite nice for more than a year now.
I'm not really "power-hungry", but I like playing games on my smartphone. I usually play games like GTA VC and Minecraft PE, which run surprisingly well on my overclocked xperia.
After reading quite a few reviews about HTC One X on the internet, I have some questions:
Is the phone overheating?
Had your device ever rebooted by itself?
Is the phone too big to hold and use with just one hand? (keep in mind that I'm coming from a 3" phone)
How's the general performance of the stock ROM with Sense? Does it lag sometimes? Is installing custom ROM a must?
What's your gaming experience with the device?
How's the battery life? Can it hold for at least a day?
And finally, what's your general opinion about the device? Is it worth buying now, or should I wait for something new? (ignoring One X+, that's not what I call an upgrade)
Buying HTC One X
How much of a hurry are you in? This is like new phone season, or will be soon. Probably a few phones to be released at Mobile World Congress (end of this month I think) then available to buy maybe 6 to 8 weks later.
Having said that I am very happy with my One X (although my usage habits are very different than yours (not much gaming).
Is the phone overheating?
No
Had your device ever rebooted by itself?
I had a problem with this for about a month, but after latest OTA not anymore except when I put it n my jeans pocket
Is the phone too big to hold and use with just one hand? (keep in mind that I'm coming from a 3" phone)
For me yes a little, but you get used to it fast
How's the general performance of the stock ROM with Sense? Does it lag sometimes? Is installing custom ROM a must?
No lag for me, I'm ok with sense, I like their peripheral apps very much (mail, calendar, etc) but I use Apex launcher to customize the home screen etc.
What's your gaming experience with the device?
Hah, just backgammon and chess
How's the battery life? Can it hold for at least a day?
For me yes
If you play games its normal to become a little bit hot, stock is ok, but I always go for custom roms, no reboots, you'll probably need a week or two to get used to its size, and there's no way the battery will last full day if you play games. And yes, if the price is good go for it.
Sent from my HTC One X
Yeah its a good phone, if you manage to buy one with super CID it will be an excellent phone.
is the phone overheating?
it gets quit hot sometimes (after playing a half hour temple run you can feel the phone in your pocket because of the temperature)
had your device ever rebooted itself?
no
is the phone to big?
definitely not, i think it's the perfect size. i can reach the whole screen with one hand and because of its thickness it fits easily in your pocket
general performance with sense:
seems pretty good as long as you don't play games. everything else works smooth and loads fast.
gaming experience:
bad. very bad. although the one x has much potential many games have problems with the tegra 3: temple run 2 doesn't run as fluid as on the sgs2 or sgs3, beach buggy blitz also has sometimes framedrops. there is a gaming-boost app for this but, although most of the games run better after that they are still not completly smooth.
battery life:
it depends. standby almost drains nothing because of the 5th companion core but if you play games it will drain the battery in 2 hours of active use. i can make it from 7am till 3-5pm with one charge if i play a lot. you could say a charge is enough for 1hr browsing/news 45min youtube 45min gaming and 20min call
i don't think it's worth buying it now because like someone else already said we will see a lot of new phones at the end of this month and prices for older models will drop after new ones have been announced/released. i personally am happy with my purchase. if you hate glossy plastic like i do this is the device for you!
ps: you should inspect your device for any damages as soon as you get it, my first one had a small white scratch on the backside near the dock-dots (no problem on the white one but it will drive you crazy if you have a gray version) and the black ring around the camera was slightly misplaced.
one more thing: htc released the jelly bean kernel sources today, so if you're into flashing you can expect better jelly bean roms and new kernels in a short manner of time.
Buy Nexus.
I am a HTC One X Owner.
if you want the best Software and gaming experiance its relly fast and without sense **** . and for the big screens this is super easy in a week you going to be a new guy and you not be able to touch phones under 4 inch
Best buy go for it

[Q] Nexus 7 left on, got really hot

Bought my mom a Nexus 7 2013 holiday 2013 and it's been running fine since. I've unlocked and rooted it, just so I can occasionally do backups for her in case sometime goes wrong.
Anyway, she likes to play her casino games on the thing and always falls asleep while doing so(lol, I know). Well, today I go in and see she fell alseep with it on again and when I picked up the tablet it was burning hot. So hot, I was seriously worried about it being damaged.
When in a fullscreen game or movie, the thing doesn't shut off by itself. My question is this: Will this thing shut off before it melts itself and/or starts a fire? I'd be hopeful that it has some kind of temperature shutoff before that happens, but man, it felt ridiculously hot. It's in a case and the case itself was burning hot, so the tablet had to be hotter. I know the battery would eventually die, but what if it was plugged in?
I know, simple solution is to tell my mom not to fall alseep while playing with the darn thing, but she's ornery and stubborn(i've genuinely tried to teach her how to legitimately use the tablet yet she still doesn't know how to use the keyboard, though somehow knows how to turn it on/off and download new casino games).
Is there a sleep timer app that can shut this thing off while a game is running and/or when it reaches a certain temperature?

AFAIK, nexuses (and any other Android devices as well I assume) got a temperature trigger. It means that if the device reaches certain temp it will clock down the CPU, so the device shouldn't be that hot to get its part damaged

Good to know. I assumed so, but when I picked up that tablet earlier, it's the hottest I've ever felt a mobile device. I've owned a bunch of androids and a few tablets.

My nexus 7 2013 shut off at exactly 105°C which is extremely hot! Now when my device gets 90°C+ the screen goes black (backlight still on) and after a hard reboot it refuses to boot and hangs on the google logo for 10 minutes and then it works fine again. Don't know what the problem is but since then my tablet is quite laggy and the antutu score for the cpu is about 500 (which is similar to a freaking galaxy Y ) While it should be at least 2000+ (IRL performance is not as bad as the antutu score says though)
Something is seriously wrong if it's getting really hot when playing 2d casino games, do you perhaps have the cpu govener set to
performance? so it's ramping up the cpu / gpu at all times?
If it's that hot you gotta make sure she knows to shut the screen off when not playing.
High heat plus a lithium battery can potentially equal an explosion. But it would need to be really hot.

Heat

Some phones are great to take camping because if you play Asphalt 8 long enough, the back warms up to the ideal temperature that can bake bread. Rate this thread to express the extent to which the LG G5 stays cool under extended heavy use. A higher rating indicates that even when playing strenuous games for long periods of time, the phone doesn't get uncomfortably warm.
Then, drop a comment if you have anything to add!
i think the G5 heats a little bit too much
today i was simply downloading Hearthstone (800MB approx) and in standby it heated too much
i think its quite excellent actually.
i could not notice any throttling during gaming etc. well maybe thats just because even the gpu is idling at <15% during asphalt 8 play
I had zero issues with thus device heating up until last night... I was at the movies with the fam.. In the theater I only had 1x for data and the phone got hot while searching for a better data connection. Cooled right down after leaving the theater.
Coming from an htc m7, so a huge step anyway... Phone is top!
This was one of the first things I noticed because I used the gps probably 45 mins after taking it out of the box. I watch YouTube vids for around an hour a day and after a while it does become noticeable but I have to be honest; it really doesn't bother me all that much.
Can feel warm and a little uncomfortable in warmer weathers (20-30 Celsius).
Mine heats up a lot. I'm a little concerned honestly.

I don't experience anything unusual.
heres the deal boys...
Yes this phone gets hot when its used hard.....if your not incurring reboots while running it hard , then you'll probably be good
After a month buying this , I started getting reboots ....hot and cold
The first time I sent it in , they said to leave sim and battery at home...
I got it back and started the usual 30 or more updates from App Store and phone got real hot and started rebooting again every minute
even when it was cool...it rebooted but at a longer interval...
They told me to send battery in too on second go around...
Just got it back , it had a system update to do and then the 30+ app updates....this phone was getting a workout...
I did the App updates right after the system update with the optimization ....
I'm 20 apps into it...the battery cooled down and the apps are still going...
looks like they have a battery issue with these phones. If I don't report back , then all is good...

No, it doesn't mean that LG has an issue with the batteries. It only means that YOU had issue with YOUR battery.
I'm glad your phone is OK and it was just the battery.
Only got mine yesterday, but I've used it a lot in that short time and it get nowhere near as hot my previous 2 phone a Nexus 4 and G3 it gets warm but not what I would call hot compared to them 2 anyway, at its worst mostly watching videos it can get a quite warm, but gaming it barely gets warm, I'm loving it so far but time will tell I guess but so far so good.
Mine heats up too, specially while using Snapchat or YouTube. Haven't played Asphalt or other graphic-intensive games, so I can't comment whether my device has the same issue with them or not.
Mine stays quite cool during heavy usage, it does get realy hot while charging though. I expect this is the same with others?
Coming from the Samsung Galaxy Note series (Note 1 - Note 5), the LG G5 gets pretty hot even when idling.... My solution? Waiting for the Note 7 to be released and then goodbye LG!

Better than the V10. My old V10 overheated while I was using Skype to the point it shut itself off. Had no problems with the G5.
