[Q] Question about custom ROMs

Hi everyone,
the HOX is my first Android phone in a while so I'm still trying to make sense of the developers' stuff. I searched the forums for this but I'm still confused.
My question is, now that i see that both MIUI and CM9 ROMs are getting ready to be released, what are the benefits of waiting for HTC to release the Kernel and also what the benefits are for waiting for the S-Off exploit.
In other words, if working, stable MIUI and CM9 ROMs are released soon, what's the point to wait for HTC kernel and S-Off?
I'd really appreciate if you could help me understand this.
Thanks!

The newer kernel will have better performance. The S-OFF will make things easier to flash plus you can super CID your phone meaning you can flash any RUU, good for de-branding branded phones
Thanks for the quick response, it makes things clearer. So once HTC officially releases the kernel, will MIUI and CM9 be updated to that? Or are the 2 developments unrelated?

[Q] Update from ICS To KK or Other Stable ROM

More than a year ago I installed an ICS custom ROM on my Sister's Arc and now I want to upgrade this phone to a better ROM,
I want to know which rom will be good and stable for this phone?
And how to install the new rom
The bootloader is locked so I guess I will have to unlock it first
I am thinking about installing PA 4.4.4 ROM but I am not sure if it is stable or not
Please let me know if you need any more info
Any help is hugely appreciated .
Thanks in advance

Beginner help please - CyanogenMod 13 and questions

Hi there, I'm new to these threads and recently put cyanogenmod 12.1 on my nexus 7. I was surprised how clean and well optimized it ran so I was going to put cyanogenmod 13 on my HTC One M9.
So I was curious if there was anyone on these forums that had the time to answer some beginner questions.
1: I have carrier locked HTC One M9 from Australia, can I unlock and install Cyanogenmod 13?
2: How can I backup my original Rom?
3: Any recommendations?
Thank you in advance
Go into recovery and twrp has a backup button. Save it to your micro SD card
1. You will need to get S-OFF to be able to flash MM 3.xxx.xxx firmware to be able to run CM 13.
2. You need to go here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=3066720
3. Read and read

Since I had a similar question to what's been posted here. I'm going to ask in this thread. I've been looking for non-sense(no pun intended) roms, for my phone and found that CM looks like something I'd like. However, all I've found are nightly builds. Is it a good idea to wait until there are some stable builds or are those nightly builds good enough? Been looking for non-sense roms all over, but it seems all the top ones are derived from sense, I'm just interested in getting as far away from stock as I possibly can.
Candy rom and CM are the only builds I've used on M9....
Candy is CM based and runs far better than stock CM nightly builds...
CM will get there...but for now I'm avoiding it...
Also...candy rom will run on 2.x firmware....and CM13 will not....g

Newbie here, just did my first root + got a custom rom (CM13) [if you're thinking of getting it now, please don't. I'm doing you a favor.]
However, releasing what nightly's are, im now wondering how stable is this 'Candy rom' you speak of?

Small question, if you will. Does CandySix bring all the features that CM does? By this I mean, root, the UI customizations such as menu colors, themes, and UI tweaks. I'm using ViperOne right now, and although I like its UI themes and colors a lot, I don't like Sense that much. I know this isn't all that related to the thread but I don't want to open up a new thread just to ask about this stuff.

Candy is far more feature rich than CM vanilla roms...
Give it a try...I think you'll like it...g
I will try it then, thanks for the help.

Post-Cyanoggenmod t999 d2tmo

Hey Folks,
First timer here. I'm a refugee from the cyanogenmod boards. I'm a novice at this but did manage to root and install twrp and use the cm nightlies for a couple of years. I own the S3 t999 and have been using d2tmo on Metropcs (NYC) ever since cm10. I know the d2tmo is the tmobile but it has always worked for metro pcs.
Anyway, sometime in mid December, I foolishly updated to cm14.1 from 13.0-20161118-nightly-d2tmo without realizing I was actually upgrading the android version. As you can imagine, without upgrading the gapps, my phone went bonkers. I was barely able to get it back to working order. It has not been the same since and as others have noted, all the cm13 nightlies for d2tmo from cyanogenmod are no longer there and obviously there will be no more further improvements of cm14 . Those last nightlies are too buggy for me, even with the correct gapps.
So my question is, what are my options now ? Are there alternate projects that work like the cm builds ?
So SlimRoms has some builds. Would these work like the CM builds? Would I just install it from twrp , does it matter that I'm going from a CMbuild to a SlimRom ?
I'm looking for something that will continue to improve, easy to update.
Thank you any feedback, sorry I could not post links

Thank you very much anil2653. Very much appreciated.
I'd still like some options moving forward tho, if anyone can speak as to what they would be, that would be great .

Kernel source for SM-J100VPP

I got the kernel source for the SM-J100VPP, and am planning to recompile the kernel with unlocking support, any ideas? If I can get a bootloader unlock on this device, anyone interested in a custom rom? (I'm new to XDA, if this is in the wrong section, feel free to move.)
I'm game for a custom ROM. Good luck, it will be amazing if you get this phone unlocked....
