I got the kernel source for the SM-J100VPP, and am planning to recompile the kernel with unlocking support, any ideas? If I can get a bootloader unlock on this device, anyone interested in a custom rom? (I'm new to XDA, if this is in the wrong section, feel free to move.)
I'm game for a custom ROM. Good luck, it will be amazing if you get this phone unlocked....

Hey guys,
New to Installing Custom Kernels/ROMS onto the Xperia Play but not new to flashing in general. So I do have a few questions.
As I have an Unlocked bootloader which I have of course unlocked I am looking for CWM and a Good ROM to use. So my questions are as follows
1. Where can I get hold of the latest and fully functional CWM for the Play ? I heard Doomlord has a Touch screen version ?
2. What ROM would you reccomend for performance but full functionality ? I am personally looking more so towards Doomlords work. I am looking for a ROM to tide me over until the Custom ICS Roms are at a more stable point. I would though want a ROM that does not force an Overclock, I currently want to stay at stock CPU.
I already have the latest Flashtool Oh and I have the R800i
I look forward to your guys response, I love the Play and love the Play section on XDA, Really active!
I think since you are so keen towards the ICS thingy...hence DarkForest ROM by KeiranFTW- http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1388166 will be suitable for you..(check for the screens on the 2nd page)
As for CWM for your unlocked bootloader http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1390771 (though it says for locked bootloaders, but since its based on just flashing it, hence should suffice)
for rest of the tweaks & other modifications http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1294129 thanks to Logseman
cheers!
Thanks I will take a look at them, I was keen also on Darklords ROM here : http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1176502
But I just need to find out if its a Pre OC ROM or if I set the OC later as I would prefer to flash a Stock CPU rom to avoid damaging my phone.
Just get SetCPU, then you can change the overclock yourself, i.e. return it to stock settings if a custom ROM has changed it

Nobody has the guts to develop a new kernel for the latest firmware, 4.4.2 KitKat?!! This phone needs a stable kernel to achieve its potential. If you are working at something, please post here your work and are a few people happy to help with testing. Come on, guys, make a better kernel!

Please, tell me where did you saw the kernel source code for Android 4.4.2 because I want to download ...
I didn't... But I know a guy (Franco) that a few years ago made a kernel for LG Optimus One without the source. The best kernel I ever installed! And that little LG O1 run better then that a lot of smartphones today.

Hi, yes you're right, you can make a kernel without it's source, but its nearly impossible on a device with so many closed-source-drivers usw. . Also you need to know very much about the way our phone works, many details usw.
I would simply say, noone can Reverse Engineer the P6-Kernel, and those who can will not do this for a decive with such a little community
EDIT:
The only possibility to create a working kernel would to try porting a kernel from the P7-Sources
But anyone ask nicelly for that source code?
T-mobile Prism II released the kernel source
I was wondering if anyone could make a custom kernel i am willing to test it out with my Prism II.
The only thing im interested in having changed on the kernel is that it supports swap! This phone comes with 512mb ram which is low and it would be nice to use swap with this phone.
https://github.com/Prism2/HUAWEI-U8686-Open-Source-U8686-JellyBean-kernel-3.4.0-
That is the link for the source kernel i found with a simple search.
This phone is so close to having a custom rom. Rooted, bootloader unlocked and CWM_recovery has already been made possible on this forum.
Can anyone tell me where i would add the line CONFIG_SWAP=y in that open source kernel the link is above in my post.
Is that all that needs to be done to this kernel to enable swap?
Hey,
I currently plan to upgrade to Android HD 45 and then looked for kernel updates.
On htcdev I found some kernels.
And there is one saying: One M8 Google Play Edition, with Android 6.0, with Region WWE and Google Carrier.
What's the meaning of this? I thought the Android Version is part of the ROM?
Can I use this kernel on my HTC? How do I know if I can use it?
Thank you.
Greetings.
Those aren't kernels. They are kernel source. If you don't know what that means, don't bother downloading it, or going any further. Its not something you install on the phone.
Ah ok.
So I now updated the Firmware and then flashed the new custom Rom. Everything working fine currently.
What exactly is a kernel then? I thought there is a kernel I install on my phone?
Or is a kernel part of a custom Rom?

Yes, the kernel (contained in boot.img) is part of the custom ROM (and is installed along with the ROM).
Some folks like to use custom (modified) kernels which allow different governors, overclocking, undervolting, etc. But they are not mandatory by any means. Those are typically flashed separately, over-writing the "stock" kernel that comes with the ROM. You can find such kernels in the Development forum section.
The downloads on the HTCDev website are the kernel source code. HTC is obligated to provide the source code as a part of the Android license, and it may be useful for developers. They are of no use to you, if you are not a developer.
Anyone seen any developers from other phones/roms that have said they have interest in the Razer phone or heard of any major roms that have said they will be supporting it?
We all know that we can bootloader unlock and root and eventually will have full source code.. Or is it just gonna be like tweaked stock based on sources.
