(Q) has anyone flashed KDZ for different model? - G4 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I am curious, I see that the sprint bands are nearly identical to T-mobile's, I want to know if anyone has tried to flash the T-mobile over the sprint model, is it possible to convert the sprint to a T-mobile?

Now I'm definitely no expert but I would say this wouldn't make much sense. The band's would only be for the similar tech (lte) and not the different tech (hspa and cdma) furthermore. The bands have to be spot on from my understanding...wouldn't make sense unless you were looking for some kind of specific software...

Yes, I was talking about the gsm since the bands for gsm are almost identical.

I just can not see any way this would go well. Granted, I could be wrong but (at least to me) this seems like basically flashing a ROM that is meant for one device onto another.....yeah the specs are SIMILAR and all, but similar and the same are two very different things in a situation like this.
.......I mean if you feel compelled to try it, then by all means.....I just see it resulting in a paperweight is all.

Best case scenario, you are able to bypass the failsafe device check in the kdz file for your device and your CDMA radios won't work.
Worse case scenario, you soft brick your device.
But seriously, why??

Question: SGN CDMA Hardware Vs. GSM Hardware - Difference? - Testing

Ok,
I've been looking for an official spec data sheet on the CDMA and GSM Versions of SGN. Thus far I am unable to find it - I've found the generic spec thus far but nothing in detail.d
Verizon is sending me a new SGN This week and Im going to flash GSM Radio's to CDMA Phone (Yes, I know you dont need to say it) I am taking a gamble that the SGN is a Quad band phone like Rezound. (It has the menu interface for GSM both 3g and 4g) - Personally I would like to see the ability to use CDMA or GSM (Pick on boot or within the ROM) Similar to 4g/3g Swapping.
Let me know If I sound nuts.
Nuts.
But if it would work you'd be called a genius and loved like Einstein in your avatar.
Im thinking it's gonna brick the device but im not worried about that.
Anyone else think its gonna brick the device?
Super nuts. I hope it doesn't brick it but just brakes the radios. Good luck man.

Ok, I just Flashed
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=20312089&postcount=6
It didn't brick the device (I assume because its radio only and not the BaseBand)
Gonna reflash my Hybrid 4.0.4 Radio to make sure all is well
Then reflash this and flash a GSM baseband/bootloader
IMO I call BullSh*t to Verizons Non-world phone idea. I think they pushed the phone out so fast that it was built on a universal hardware platform and the software is the limiting factor.
Ok, Flashed the Standard Euro Baseband XXKK6 - No luck on signal or getting IMEI off the phone now.
Gonna run to Tmobile and get a New Simcard for my extra account. At this point I am assuming the sim lock is blocking any efforts to use the GSM Bands.

You're stupid. You cant accomplish anything with this. It will NEVER work on a GSM network dude. Just buy a goddamn GSM version. You think you're just some pioneer that's going to crack this, as if its not widely known that the phones are physically different? It doesn't have the proper GSM radios in it...
You're just going to brick it. Before you do, why not just sell it and donate the money to charity. Money better used...
Is this a joke..?
So by your logic I can put a Verizon LTE sim card in my GSM nexus and achieve LTE speeds? Since you know, the hardware is the same.

LG Nitro HD on T-mobile Network = EDGE Only

Just wondering if anybody can assist me in getting my Nitro HD to use the tmobile HSPA+ frequencies.
The Nitro HD uses a Software Definable Radio and has the correct antenna to utilize these frequencies, the trick would be to "define" the radio to do so. I wouldn't even know where to begin to do that.
I was thinking about flashing the baseband from the Tmobile G2x... Thoughts?
(Some discussion and history about this can be found in the thread: "No 4G on CM9 or CM10")
Thanks!

G2X is a tegra2 device and nitro is qualcomm. even if the real baseband/radio/modem is the same, is really unlikely to be possible. i believe tegra2 has a MDM6600, at least for Moto Atrix1.

Good call. I agree. What about the HTC Sensation?
Meh, I'm going to give it a shot and see what happens, if im not back in 15 minutes,... go on without me...
Question: Does anybody know how to mess with a baseband image? How are they compiled?
afaik baseband images have their own bootloaders, so the device must be able to boot that baseband firmware.
something you should really consider is that manufacturers can disable bands from the chipset. meaning, even if the hardware ids are the same, is not entirely possible.
in older htc winmob smartphones, later ones like touch and touchpro series, have practically same chipset(i mean the entire cpu and radio/baseband), and some have stuff disabled. pro series has tv out but not fm but the other has fm radio. this happens also with 3g bands. the ATT version of touchpro2 has 850+1900 3g, mean while the Tmobile does 1700+2100 3g, verizon and sprint versions only have 2100mhz 3g.
safest way to work with what you are planing is through jtag because if anything goes wrong, device will be hard bricked, can be recovered with a previously backup or full radio image+bootloaders.

[Q] AT&T radio on T999?

I've had many Android devices over the years and flashed a few ROMs in my day. I haven't messed with any of that in quite a long while though.
I've recently switched from all Sprint and all HTC devices to T-Mobile's Galaxy S3. I searched and found the thread about the Team Sonic modem flasher. I tried to read as much as possible but don't think my question is answered there.
Basically.. I get no service at my house and cannot manually select the AT&T network. Everyone with AT&T (including my girlfriend who has the S3) gets service here. Can I flash an AT&T baseband on my T999? I currently have UVLJ4 and get nothing inside and 2G outside whereas all the AT&T people get 4G in my house.
Hope this hasn't been answered before.
Thanks
Sam
Pretty sure that's a no-no.
I think you could flash the modem, but you need to verify they use the exact same partition on both variants. If it flashed to the wrong partition you're likely to hard brick the phone.
An att modem is not going to get you on the att network. I seriously doubt it'd even let you even make a phone call on tmobiles network, though it could happen. I can't figure any real reason (other than pure dumb luck) that another carriers modem would be better than one coded specifically for the network you are on.
Your best bet is to try out all the available modems we already have before thinking about trying another carriers fw.
And search again, but look in the development stickies too! You may find other things you could try. For the moment the modem flasher is quite outdated. I may work on updating it this coming week for those who are still wanting it. We'll see!

Will this no-no brick my phone or will I just not be able to get any service once flashed and then flash back? I've been trying to scour XDA and the rest of the internet for answers. So far I found this info..
"The modems in the GS3 are SDR or software defined radios. Their frequency TX and RX spectrums can be modified through software. The nice thing about the MSM8960 SOC board is that the radios can be programmed to virtually any current GSM, HSPA or LTE frequency in use in the United States today"
If this is true, I should just be able to flash an AT&T baseband, correct? Then again, I read that the T999 doesn't have the LTE compatibility that every other S3 has. Is this software or hardware defined?
Its a hw limitation.
Call tmobile and let them know the situation. Since you're new to their network I doubt they'd do it but I've heard of them providing a cell repeater to put in your home. Worst they'll say is no!

We replied at the same times and I did not see this until I had already posted. Thank you. I guess I will try previous T-Mobile modems and see if one happens to be better for me. All I want is to roam but the phone won't let me choose the AT&T network even though it shows up in the network search. Customer service told me you are unable to roam as long as a T-Mobile network is available at your location.
I do not want to risk bricking so I will stay away from trying the AT&T modem as I am not familiar with this phone or any flashing that has come about in the past 2-3 years.

Chinese phone on Verizon 4g LTE

I've been doing some reserach and thinking that in the future when my phone breaks I'd like to get take a gamble and try one of those Chinese phones. I'd like to keep my Verizon's unlimited data plan with the 4G LTE. I was refered to this site and told to ask here about ROMs and Kernals to conver the phone's 4G frequency to 700mhz to match Verizons. I have yet to find many chinese phones that run on 4G and have found none that run on the 700mhz frequency. So my next plan is to reprogram the phone to run on the Verizon frequency.
Now I have the Droid Razr with 4G. It has a SIM but I was reading that the GSM was disabled so the phone just runs on the CDMA network. Correct me if it's wrong, but that's my understanding for the time being. Anyway I'm looking to reprogram a Chinese phone to someday replace my Droid Razr. If anyone can point me in the right direction of ROMs of kernals that would be fantastic, even some direction on the right devics would be fine too.
Thank you for your time.
Does anyone have any input on this? Is it even possible?
i dont think is possible because frequencies are hardware based
I was told I just needed a new kernal and ROM. I understand that the hardware is designed to run on a few different frequencies and that it just needed to be reprogramed. Can anyone confirm this?

I'm looking to do the same. I'm not due for an upgrade until next year and my Galaxy Nexus flash memory is failing. I only need something to carry me over until my renewal, and I'm not going to buy an S4 or something for $600 until then... a ~$200 knock-off with decent hardware would be fun to play with, easy to carry and can be handed down to a kid on a prepaid network later (or used simply as a wifi/media/GPS device). Only problem is that it's hard to tell what is supported and what is not.
Any insight from those more experienced would be appreciated.

LTE?

Has anyone been able to get LTE working on USA GSM carriers? Just wondering because I'm able to get H+ but I have not been able to get LTE. With the same APN on my Nexus 5 there is a consistent LTE signal in my house so I know its not the area or towers.

abhinav.tella is correct. Look under LTE band support... http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/LG_G2
.....but we are only talking sprint software doesn't support it, hardware should be perfectly capable of it correct? Maybe a piece of VS980 code could help here, I also have been looking into getting this working, any info anyone has would be helpful, thanks

Dude, do some research. Sprint does LTE on 850/1900/2600. That's not software but hardware. You won't get LTE on any GSM carrier using a Sprint G2.

Thanks for your very useful input, we understand what sprint LTE bands are already, most of us need to be on 1700. So, since it is a hardware issue not software, can you please enlighten us to which piece of hardware handles these LTE bands?
Also I don't see anywhere it says our hardware, the qualcomm snapdragon 800 is incapable of the 1700 LTE band, http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Snapdragon_(system_on_chip)#Snapdragon_800 , actually it is proven the hardware is very capable by the other carriers, such as T-mobile and Verizon! I love it when people say you can't or won't ever get something done, motivates me, thanks again :good:
I am thinking about trying to flash a VS980 modem.img, has anyone tried this, soft brick? I have a few different G2 variant builds and I am sure the answer is in one of them! I am wondering, if opening up and editing the original modem.img is possible?

Sweet, I would also like 4G data on my G2 and will try my damnedest to find a solution! I found something interesting in the modem.img of the
VS980, it has a couple more files in it than the LS980!
Mainly I see right away, Verizon includes these, MLSERVER.B00, MLSERVER.B01, MLSERVER.B02, MLSERVER.B03 and
MLSERVER.MDT, sprint does not? I also see Verizon has a couple more modem files, B00-B26 Verizon, B00-B24 Sprint, Verizon also has 1 more
ADSP.B than Sprint, other than these differences they look identical to each other?!

Add these files to.the sprint modem and flash it. See if that does the trick.
It will take some time to find the right files to grab and add, I am looking through the hex and seeing which ones match and which ones are different, I will keep you posted though, any help anyone can give into this would be greatly appreciated! (there are a ton of hex values)

I and others already mentioned that, but if they don't listen what can we do, let them learn the hard way.
Thanks for the info, best of luck on all your work!
FYI, soft bricks aren't a problem when you keep back ups handy, and just flashing the VS980,D800,D801 and the D805 modem.img's have caused nothing more than UI crashes, some random reboots and no network settings at all available, easily fixed with original modem.img, I would NEVER recommend doing anything I haven't put my own phone through first and having recovery in place, thanks though!
