[Q] Can't connect usb, and framaroot won't work, how can I root this phone? - T-Mobile, Samsung Galaxy SIII

When I got into the download mode, it seems the user before me put roms on it, at least it gives me a number 7 towards the top which made me think they were roms.
I wasn't able to at first, but I am able to get it to the recovery mode now, that looks similar to clockwork mod, but it may just be standard on droids now, idk.
Can I use the Mr Robinson zip or md5 file (http://www.xda-developers.com/how-to-root-the-samsung-galaxy-s-iii-xda-developer-tv/) and flash through the recovery (will it still update the radios, and they other things, I downloaded the 4.11 version (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1771687) since that is what my s3 is running TMO T999UVDLJC and the zip file md5 checked out.
If this is not possible, what are my other options to get
the phone rooted?
Edit: I am also running avast on this phone, it detects the apk and application of framaroot and I get error 7 for Armada (not sure on name) and error 9 with the one that begins with a G.
Thank you all in advance.

You can use LJC if you want. You'll be rooted and it'll flash the modem and bootloader as well but they will be the same ones

Using recovery right? I keep it in the zip or unzip it?
Which option, think it has update from cache, and another from folder
Thanks for the quick reply seeing how it's a rather old phone.

No, you flash it with Odin. And unzip it

I cannot connect my phone to pc, it won't detect it and framaroot doesn't work.
Or is there another way to use odin or something?

Are you connecting the phone to a Windows machine? Is there something wrong with the phone's USB port that causes it not to be recognized by the computer? Have you tried different ports and USB cables?

Try towelroot or cf-auto-root

Thank you, towelroot got me rooted, thought it was fornewer phones.
The uUSB cord works for an s6, but not this phone.
Going to try a couple apps that I needed root for.
Should I run the Mr Robinson zip if I am able to get the phone to connect? Or is everything the same? Or will it cause problems?
Edit: I am running windows 8.1. This could be a problem?

There should be no need to run other apps if the phone has root access.
You can check root by installing an app such as Titanium Backup.

If it's rooted, no need to do anything else

I used root checker basic.
OK great, I'll grab ROM manager and clockmod to install others and follow some guides.
If you have any remaining tips, please let me know. Still can't connect to a PC, hhaven't tried another PC yet.

[GUIDE] Rooting Sprint Intercept froyo 2.2 [06-02-11]

I've successfully permanently rooted my Sprint Intercept with the latest 2.2 froyo on it without installing custom kernels and wanted to share steps I took since there is some confusion and differences.
Original guide link.
Things you'll need:
Root files.
Samsung drivers.
Windows 7/vista/xp 32 bit.
Steps:
Install Samsung drivers
Reboot your PC
Reboot your phone, connect it to your PC with a usb cable
Put your phone in debugging mode (menu->settings->applications->development)
Extract root files to your c:\intercept-root folder (or any folder you wish)
Start windows command line (start->run->CMD)
Change to your "intercept-root" folder
Execute START_ROOT command
Follow instructions
Once done, don't forget to install Superuser apk.
after you rooted it you were able to put a different rom on it right. trying to clear out the garbage that comes on it.

No, this is just simply to root and remove stuff you don't want. I suggest Titanium backup. There is no proper recovery for the intercept that I know of. The one existing can be flashed and it does work but has some issues with what it backs up and what it restores. It's not complete and may create problems.
If you are rooting the latest 2.2 froyo, after removing all sprint apps you are left with true bare stock so there is really no need for anything else. Make sure you don't remove the sprint vm even if you are using google voice. It needs to be on because of system integration.
you mae one error. the drivers can't be installed on windows 7. I have gotten the drivers from the moment to work once but now its nothing. my computer no longer recognizes the phone when i plug it into the computer. which means that i cant root it or anything. sucks and i need serious help.
hmmm, same problem
Find a friend with a XP laptop and use that?
Glad to know - i have failed at rooting my intercept a few times and have been using my windows 7 box. Trying these instructions from a laptop - will report back!
Success
Using nothing but a old crappy dell laptop runing windows XP I was able to gain perma root using the instructions provided here. On my first run of the script the process failed, I simply did what the program told me to (run the script again) and it worked like a charm.
OP - thank you so very much for taking the time to post.
Question for anyone: now that I have root, I *really* want to be able to use my Intercept as a wi-fi hotspot. Can I do this? Where do I start?
No errors. I got drivers under Windows 7 working but I clearly said it has to be 32 bit as 64 does not work. Check your version.

Download wireless tether app. I've had troubles with it in the past so if that one doesn't work try Barnacle.
how to flash cmo1 custom recovery after phone is rooted?
Just throw intercept root on sdcard and run
All I had to do it throw the root on the sdcard. Run it from the file manager, and then download barnacle. Sweet! Done!

I don't believe there is a supported recovery for the intercept. There is one hacked up but there are some issues with it so I don't recommend it.

Hardware ID Missing after rooting......

Hello.
I used the Toolkit to root my Note 2, and I had to use option 4 on the rooting menu, Install Custom Recovery, Install via Recovery to get it to work. I tried several times via the Odin tool and Twrp recovery, and the phone kept booting into Android Recovery instead of Twrp recovery.
I finally used Odin to flash back to stock ROM that I got here, but, along the way, even though the Toolkit was able to connect to my Note 2, I get the Hardware ID missing, and I cannot connect to it any longer like I could after I installed the initial drivers.
Anything I can do and stay rooted?
Change usb ports or restart your device. Mine did it last night and I fixed it by doing both..
I have the same problem.
Changing ports and restarting in most cases didn't help and only in few cases I managed to access files on the phone via USB.
Any other suggestion how to solve this?
don't use windows..

I was able to gain root back using the toolkit. I flashed stock rom image I believe the ROM from the factory then flashed back stock recovery. Went back in after I updated and re-rooted to flash the triangle away. Now I need to unroot and after speaking with Sprint Rep on phone and trying a few things they advised me to take it to store to let them try it. I believe ALL of my problems started when I tried to use Mobile Odin Pro to flash the latest update to LJC (should I have been on stock recovery?). It started to flash then stopped and went into CWM recovery which is the recovery that the toolkit flashed. I for some strange reason was going to flash the update from there except I didn't have it in the right place on my sd card (couldn't access it GOD I'm a Dumbass!). God help me cause I'm too stupid to even understand what side loading is let alone how to do it. If some kind soul would take pity on me and pm me I could get a handle on the differences between HTC and Samsung. Anyway need to unroot now. Oh I keep seeing in the flash counter saying 1 but I'm on stock rom with stock kernel and stock recovery how do I get it to zero. Using triangle away. Anyway to check counter with stock recovery?
OH yeah does anyone keep getting "Internal Error Code 1500" in addition to the hardware id is missing?
Thanks to everyone that takes time to help idiots like me. I promise I CAN learn.

Still looking for final solution with latest drivers.

I don't remember link. I googled so you might try that way.
Just FYI, even with older drivers I have sporadic Hardware ID Missing error, but far too less than with the latest version.
I'm posting this to keep it to the top of this board.
This is my second Note 2 in 2 weeks. I returned the first one because it stated Hardware ID missing, so within my first 2 weeks Sprint gave me a new one thinking that it was my phone. While at the Sprint store, and not yet rooted, we installed the unit and removed the unit 15 times to see if we could get it to have the Missing Hardware ID to pop up, it DIDN'T pop up once, so I thought I was good to go.
I came home and did the common root method that uses Galaxy Note 2 Toolbox. I IMMEDIATELY started getting the Missing Hardware ID again.
So now that we have it localized, what could be missing or creating a problem from the root procedure from the Galaxy Note Toolbox 2???
What I find really strange is that many are not experiencing this problem or they are just living with it.
I even tried the USB Switcher that appeared to install and does switch between Mass Storage and MTP, but although my PC makes the upward noise that sounds like it is installing and recognizing the USB Mass Storage, it doesn't end up recognizing it. It was ZATTA's build but he said it didn't work for his Galaxy 3 or Note 2 either.
Will anyone find a cure????
This will be no fun to have to deal with for the next 2 years.
Chime in PLEASE!!!!!! Even if it's only to insult me, I don't care if you have a cure.
Regards
Dave
if you do Google search, it's a known issue. From what I read, it's a driver issue. Some have had luck using the older Samsung USB drivers. You have downloand them, and install, and have your PC completely disconnected from the internet before plugging in your GN2 after the install. Appaarently the drivers on Microsoft's servers are bad; may be the wrong device.
I've done this, and still have the issue. I just find I don't have plug and unplug the USB cable as much.
What I have seen, the PC does connect to the GN2. It just doesn't recognize it as a storage device. It wants to use it as a modem, probably from the tethering capabilities with a USB OTG cable.
It may not be so much that it's not wide spread, but more that not everyone uses the GN2 as storage device or connects it their PC.
I dont think this is all due to Windows issue. This is what i notice before and after root.
If you have restore to Original Stock ROM, you will notice that your device doesnt encounter this issue.
If you have rooted your device Custom ROM or Flash CMW (this resulted as Binary Counter increased), you would have Hardware Missing Id issue. Somehow the MTP is not working.
If you have Flash your device with a pre rooted stock rom, there is no issue at all until you flash CMW where flashing increase counter.
How i notice this, i have root/unroot my device like 20 times since i got my device.
The issue is here is more of where Binary Counter Increase, in Windows 7 you would face Hardware ID Missing issue. Restart and connect to other USB port will not work.
Some how we need to no let the Binary Counter changed and Triangle Away is only useful if you want to return you device to original state.

Yep I think you may be on to something. Because when I rooted I tried both TWRP and CWM and then I had to go back to stock to get to apply the LJC update. Ever since I have had the chameleon error and Handsfree activation issues. Oh my counter always says 1 and I can't remove it with triangle away. I think it says custom binary yes and the counter says 1. I am using a laptop with Windows 7 and it now recognizes the device just can't stop the errors on start up.

Need help with flashing custom recovery (Solved)

Hi I was rooted using cmenards int rom and I decided top use odin to go back to stock so I could do the update so I can get the new modem. It is how I have always done things when an update comes out even though I know I am going to root and use a custom I like to have a currrent stock backup and the latest modem. I am not new to this.so I dont know what is up.
I am using pc odin 3.07 i put the file in PDA and I tried to install the twrp with odin and it says that it worked but when I boot into recovery it is still stock. So I tried the CWM for the 7100 with the same results. (both of them I have used before with no problem) So I tried to redownload everything still the same resutls then I tried resetting everything and no luck. I gotta say I am stumped. The only thing I can think of is I was going to use kies to do the update but it was on my pc before but It hads to do an update so maybe the updated version of kies is doing something annd as it turned out I didnt need to use kies I just used the ota. So I am uninstalling it now as I type but I dont think it will do anything.
Can anyone help me please?

It's a known issue on newer android devices, it will automatically reflash the stock recovery. Try using goomanager or exynos abuse, I'm positive one will ask you if you want to disable it (I remeber it popping up)
Oooh I read about that so thats what it is. Goo manager does not work I tried but what is ths other thing. I guess I have to get it here? I will google it I see it is not in market thank you. So if that does not work how do I get around this?
Okay I figured it out. And I actually didnt even haver to hook up to my pc. I was ****ting (which is where I come up with all my good ideas.) And I remember reading about the security hole in the exynos processor and the app chainfire came up with. Which turns out to be the exynos abuse app that killahurtz was talking about. So I remembered that with the app you can use the exploit to root so I downloaded the .apk and installed and rooted and then used goo.im app to install the latest twrp. So thanks to killahurtz for recomending it and chainfire for the app and exploit and samsung for being a little bit dopey One thing I am still wondering is how would you solve this problem if the security hole did not exist? I know I saw something in the toolkit about it So if this didnt work would In have been able to hookup tob the pc and use the toolkit without having root access?
In ExynosAbuse, it gives you the option to plug the hole after you have rooted, only thing is you may break your camera in the process. I would just stay away from pirated and sketchy apps for now.

[Q] I need help extremely bad!! Please!

I am a class A bonehead. I had an insane amount of data on my internal sd card and before confirming I had twrp backups (swore I did) I deleted everything(internal, external, you name it). My Sprint GS3 now has no OS and no data whatsoever, I have no back ups and am really up Poop's creek with no paddle. I have downloaded stock rooted md4 rom and thought I'd be okay because I can still go into download mode but Odin 3.07 will not recognize my phone when I connect to usb....this might be because I forgot to check "usb tethering" before this all happened but I'm sure I have been able to connect before the OS was deleted and the drivers are fine. Please tell me there is a fix for this as I'm hoping I'm not the only one to pull this numbskull move!

As he said. After that flash a stock rom. That may help =p
and in my opinion, always store your Nandroid backup on your computer.. Your phone isn't the best place if it's the victim.
I once used Undelete for Root Users to save someone's files. But that was awhile ago. Also if you absolutely have to you can use THIS method. It does not require ODIN. It will put you back to Stock, so you will have to Root once again. But you will be up and running.

TEAM MiK

Based on how I read this, he is only able to get to download mode ATM. But... the problem is that his PC will not recognize the device in download mode. My recommendation is that you:
1. Re-install the drivers
2. Use a different USB cable
3. Try the USB cable in a different USB port
From download mode (and after the drivers have been re-installed), connect the device - at which point it will say that it is detecting and installing the drivers that you just installed.
After drivers are finished installing, unplug it again.
Then run ODIN.
Then plug the phone back in.
Then install a factory ROM.
Then re-root with your toolkit.
PROFIT.

1) If you have ADB, connect, allow adb and adb reboot recovery
2) Hardware key combo: Volume Up & Power until LG screen appears, then Volume Down twice, then Power (yeah, looks like game cheat code but it really works)
I thought I had the drivers loaded because I could see my phone in explorer but I must not have the drivers loaded.now how can I find the adb drivers and how do I set them up? Every time I think I am getting somewhere I get thrown way back again. All I want to do at this time is reload the firmware so I can access the ext sd card witch was lost while trying to root and install cwm. I am about to throw this **** aginest the wall wall that way this will be fixed for good.
Use LGUnifiedDriver, it should install both adb and LG drivers
Where can I get a clean download of it? I am running windows 8.1 . I do have a pc with windows xp as well just havent used it in a while.
LG's support site I think, I still use old version, from first time I've flashed something via LGFlashTools.. You can download that and LG Support Tool from there too.
I have the lg support tool installed as well as the lg pc suite and lg flash tool. I will give it a shot using the lgunifidedriver. I wonder when I origanly tring to root and install cwm and then lost the ability to access the ext sd and not being able to boot into recovery. Could it have made my phone not recognizably? I can see the phone in win explorer when plugged in. The pc does not recognize it in device manager. It says it has no drivers.
Other than that the phone works normal (makes calls, receives calls, and such.).

That sounds like Windows problem more. You don't have any of those all-in-one driver packs for Android devices installed? How did you root it?
Well I read to use lg support tools to install drivers then used geefree app to root checked with root checker witch said it was rooted ok then used gprorecovery.apk to put cwm on it. Witch said it installed sussfully. After I had it done I noticed I could not access the ext sd card nor boot into cwm. I read on anouther android forum about a felle who had the same issues and someone said the geefree app caused the issues with the ext sd and not booting into recovery.the phone all works fine except for the issues. I figured if I could return back to stock 4.4.2 witch it is on now it should be back to stock and I could try again from the beginning. I also read something about not using a 3.0 usb in windows 8.1 to use a 2.0 usb port. I'll have to see what usb port is what on my laptop. I hope this is all making sense.

Return it back to Jellybean if possible, use old Jellybean root metod available in the forums, install Freegee and flash TWRP from there, and later update it to newer TWRP on forums. Freegee is a step you can't avoid because it's the only way we can unlock our phones (that I know), and their TWRP doesn't support SDCard (not sure about CWM, but I think it also had that problem, it was long time ago I've used it). E980 can get a bit shady, but it's a great phone, so don't lose your patience yet.
Thanks for the info. I belive I have the drivers installed now, I can see the phone in the device manager of windows and it looks to be good. I will keep you informed as to how it go's.
