[Q] I need help extremely bad!! Please! - Sprint Samsung Galaxy S III

I am a class A bonehead. I had an insane amount of data on my internal sd card and before confirming I had twrp backups (swore I did) I deleted everything(internal, external, you name it). My Sprint GS3 now has no OS and no data whatsoever, I have no back ups and am really up Poop's creek with no paddle. I have downloaded stock rooted md4 rom and thought I'd be okay because I can still go into download mode but Odin 3.07 will not recognize my phone when I connect to usb....this might be because I forgot to check "usb tethering" before this all happened but I'm sure I have been able to connect before the OS was deleted and the drivers are fine. Please tell me there is a fix for this as I'm hoping I'm not the only one to pull this numbskull move!

In twrp, have you tried mounting your sdcard as usb storage to.your computer?

As he said. After that flash a stock rom. That may help =p
and in my opinion, always store your Nandroid backup on your computer.. Your phone isn't the best place if it's the victim.

I once used Undelete for Root Users to save someone's files. But that was awhile ago. Also if you absolutely have to you can use THIS method. It does not require ODIN. It will put you back to Stock, so you will have to Root once again. But you will be up and running.

OP's main problem was that he didn't know of a way to copy files over to the phone. Hopefully, CNexus' solution will work for him.

Thank you. I understood the issue. I offered an alternate solution. In case the first one does not work.

Based on how I read this, he is only able to get to download mode ATM. But... the problem is that his PC will not recognize the device in download mode. My recommendation is that you:
1. Re-install the drivers
2. Use a different USB cable
3. Try the USB cable in a different USB port
From download mode (and after the drivers have been re-installed), connect the device - at which point it will say that it is detecting and installing the drivers that you just installed.
After drivers are finished installing, unplug it again.
Then run ODIN.
Then plug the phone back in.
Then install a factory ROM.
Then re-root with your toolkit.
PROFIT.

[Q] SD Card not mounting, Download mode not working - HELP!!!!

Hi, im on the DK28 version of froyo, i cant update to ec05 because the phone will no longer mount to any pc, i have tried multiple pc's and multiple cords and cannot get the phone to mount.
When i try to flash the an update.zip other than the dk28 version i get errors. The phone used to have root but when i reflashed DK28 thinking it would fix the sd card issue, i lost root. I cant 0ne click it, i cant odin a rom. It left the Superuser application behind (Which I cant uninstall). Also I tried a wipe data/factory. When i try updating to EC05 i was getting an error 2. Basically im completely stuck on DK28.
At the very least i need to get the superuser application off the phone so i can return it since i believe the mounting issue is a hardware failure.
Does anyone have an update.zip that will not give me a signature error? Or have something i can try to get this fixed enough to return it to sprint.
I am on my phone so can't search for you right now but you are looking for that Samsung.exe file whichb was an Odin-like executable with EB13 stock files. I can look tonight if someone doesn't give you a link before then.

That sounds like i would have to run the file from a pc, which at the moment, no pc is seeing this phone in either download mode nor via odin, one click or just plain ole mounting.

Unfortunatly ive tried 3 different cables as well as different computers and different usb ports on each one of them. What i need is a Non-pc involved solution for this. I can live without mounting the phone to the pc, if i could just get upgraded to Sprints official EC05 rom. I know it has its problems, but at least it wont lock me out of ota like DK28 has, and then i can at least take the phone bak to the store at my liesure.
Have you tried removing and reinserting the SD card? When you 3 finger the phone you only get stock recovery? Does the charge light come on with the data cable in the USB port?

yes to both. odin does not see the phone. Im certain that its a hardware problem at this point, which is why im looking for an update zip i can manually put on the card that will let me flash ec05 on to the phone and erase super user. at the very least i want to remove super user.

I thought the sd cards won't mount? If they do then it will have to be a signed update zip that doesn't check for the stock apps and previous modem version.

Im Sorry i should have clarified this. The phone can see the SD cards just fine..Internally. But when i connect a cable (any cable, i have 4) to the pc (any pc, i tried on 3 dif pc's one xp, two windows 7), i cannot see the cards from the PC, odin does not see the phone, etc, basically interfacing between the 2 is nil. I am currently taking the micro sd card out of the phone, putting it into a usb adaptor and copying files to it from the pc that way, then returning the card to the phone in order to try to update it. My problem is, i need a Rom that will update without trying to verify the signature since it thinks my phone is rooted, even though it isnt anymore. At this point i wouldnt even mind a wipe since i did that yesterday anyway, just going back to DK28 Stock. Problem with Dk28 is it doesnt allow the OTA of Ec05 to come in.

Look further in the thread to see if someone put up a signed version. Amend2edify will create a signed zip, it may convert the one you downloaded. I found that thread by googling "update.zip for dk28 samsung epic" there were a lot more results I didn't check out.

Help! Semi-Bricked Evo... Despairing, here

OK, I posted in the Q&A section, but not finding much love. Hopefully someone here might be more help.
The first thing to put out there is that I did not accept the Gingerbread OTA. Still on 2.2.
Here's the story: A couple of days ago I tried running unrevoked on my Evo. One month old, HW version 0004. I'm pretty sure I did everything as instructed, but the procedure failed. Machine would run for 30 seconds or so then drop into diagnostic mode (5 vibrations & lock).
So I tried re-flashing back to stock. The first stock image I tried screwed the phone up in that: (1) it would no longer see USB connections (2) no longer saw my Micro SD card (3) would no longer charge when the phone was on.
So I tried flashing a newer stock image, the third one on this page:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=884060
That only made matters worse, as now I've lost bluetooth, too.
Keeping in mind that I cannot communicate with the phone via USB (unrevoked now just keeps waiting for me to plug the phone in, as does HTC Sync, which I installed after everything else as a last shot) and am not rooted, what are my options here? I really want to get this device back to stock, because I need a phone that works.
If I take it back to a Sprint repair store will they even look at it? Can they flash it back to stock for me or am I SOL there?
I've been thinking that I could let the OTA install and if everything's still broken take it to Sprint and tell them the OTA screwed up my phone, but I'm worried I've left traces that would tell them I'm bullshitting.
Hell at this point I'm willing to pay $$ to get this thing fixed, motherboard swap or whatever, but I'm not sure Sprint will even do that.
Gotta have my phone back guys, any help greatly appreciated.
Let me clarify... So at the moment you have a version of a stock rom on the phone, and it will actually turn on?
However, you can't "connect" per se to the phone?
You could either email yourself the files you need or use "Awesome Drop"
OR
I've read that if you've bricked or screwed your phone around the time of an OTA happening to come out, you can go to Sprint and tell them you tried to accept the OTA update, Make up some BS about blah blah blah, and then you're left here with a phone that's acting really weird and is borked.
Generally the tech will re-flash as they are familiar with the issues OTAs can cause.... Or they may give you a refurb.

I'm not rooted, though, so I doubt any files I could e-mail myself would do any good.
I am considering taking the phone back to Sprint, but I don't know whether to accept the OTA then make up some story about losing Bluetooth, SD Card access and USB, or just being honest and telling them what I did.
At this point I just want to get my phone back to stock and working as it should. I'll leave the rooting adventures to others. Rooting my Nook Color is one thing, since it's basically a $250.00 toy, but I can't live without my phone.
Try this:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=695243
However, will need root to fix the USB problem. You should look into some temp root options that will allow you to use a terminal emulator to fix the USB issue. I've never tried a temp root method, so you're going to have to do some digging around for that. Maybe someone who knows more about temp root can chime in and help.
You could start one of two ways...
Either email yourself the S-Off and Recovery Image files, move them to proper place
Or take it to Sprint. Just tell them teh OTA messed something up. Don't think up a whole world of stories or truths. Trust me, they're used to it.

So, accept the GB OTA, then?
My Sprint store is also a repair facility. Do they have hardware and tools that can re-flash the device to stock regardless of what you've done to it? because that's what I'm thinking of doing at this point.
My biggest problem with attempting to fix it myself is that not being rooted and not having USB access I seem to be SOL.
BTW: I just testes WiMax and it works, so at least my WiMax key is good.
Will your phone recognize the SD at all? If you can get another card to work, you could theoretically run a PC36IMG of the RUU through the bootloader. However, you'll need your SD card working. If your computer will recognize it but the phone won't, you can try backing up the contents, then formatting/partitioning the card. Then move just the PC36IMG to the card, boot into the bootloader, and hopefully it'll ask you to update.
If you can't get anything to work, then download the OTA and start installation. The OTA may fix it... but probably not. If it does fix it, hooray!, but you're stuck without root until an exploit is found. If it doesn't fix it, take it into Sprint and tell them you took the update and your phone is acting funny. Technically if you word it that way, you're not lying
If the card can't be recognized, don't worry about the files on it. If it can, just delete any PC36IMGs or other files related to rooting/troubleshooting. Other than the SD card, there shouldn't be any way to tell you attempted to root as long as you're s-on & cannot access recovery.
If you don't have insurance, I'm not sure how Sprint will handle it. If you do, they should either fix it or replace it for free.

When boot into the bootloader and choose "restore" it does recognize the SD card. That's how I managed to flash this image (third klink on page) and get back to stock:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=884060
So it's definitely a software issue with the phone preventing me from seeing the card/USB or connecting to bluetooth.
At this point I don't mind not being rooted. Having a working phone is more important.
And unfortunately I don't have insurance, but I'll pay the repair fee if they ask me to.

Thanks, I'll try that. I saw that thread earlier, and I just noticed that someone answered my question about fastboot. So I'll see if I can fix USB using that.
What really bugs me now is the lack of Bluetooth!
XDA search is down right now so I can't see if there are any others who have experienced this.
Please note that with the link I gave you, you can fix the SD card not being detected issue, but to fix the USB port using those instructions, you need root. Since Unrevoked won't work without the USB, you would have to either try a temp root method (I've never used it so I can't offer you much help there) or some other manual root method where the USB port isn't needed.

ok, we can't help you if you do not follow directions. read my post, and those of the others who posted. one contains a link to a thread to fix the sdcard. you have been told to do this several times. i told you to do this first then get z4root. im done helping you, good luck.
Use z4root in order to achieve temp root for previous mentioned fixes.
Wohooo! I've fixed the SD Card issue! Thanks all, even DomSim, who's apparently given up on me in frustration. Give a noob a break, DomSim. I'm new to all this and am trying to balance reading this stuff with a family that also needs my attention.
I've got Z4Root installed and verified root, too. I'll probably fix the USB issue at work, since I don't need a computer connection for that and it's getting late (yeah, I usually leave for work just after 5:00 AM).
Once I've got the USB issue sorted I'll have to take a look at the bluetooth issue. I'm hoping its related to the USB situation and will be cured at the same time, but suspect that's just wishful thinking on my part.
Just completed the USB repair portion and.... SUCCESS!!!!! BEYOND MY WILDEST DREAMS, actually, as Bluetooth now works also.
I was hoping that the bluetooth functionality depended on USB (I think I recall that the bluetooth module on my Dell Mini 9 was USB based) and lo and behold, it does!!!!
Thanks again to everyone who helped out. You guys are first class!

Are you able to go into download mode? If you are able to get into download mode go ahead and flash a stock ROM using Odin. There are many videos and instructions on how to do this littered all over the internet. You will lose everything though user data, root etc. but from that point you can start fresh like you just took the phone out of the box. Also is your computer picking up the phone when you plug it in? If not, just make sure you have the drivers installed so your computer can identify that you've plugged in your phone.

[Q] A Wary Traveller

Hello all I am in a bit of a situation.
This is the second time I have posted regarding me causing my galaxy note 2 to be out of order. Today I used TWRP to wipe my OS then also deleted all of my data wiping the os's I had downloaded. I only have a Mac thus the help for Mac's and Android is very limited thus I am wondering if there would be any way to get this fixed without using a Windows computer right now my phone is stuck rebooting.
Sorry to bother you all again,
Max
I don't know if I understand your post fully, but... It sounds like you wiped the device, and wiped the ROM that you downloaded? I've seen this increasingly lately.
Anyways..
Download another ROM and place it on an external SD card. You'll need an adapter to be able to hook the SD up to the computer. Or just borrow someone's SD. (just don't wipe it too)
Put the SD in and flash the ROM. just shut the phone off and when you're ready, use the three button combo to get back to TWRP.
Please hit the triangle on the side of your post and report it for thread maintenance to be moved. This thread (A question thread) belongs in the Q&A section.

With a Mac, not that I know of.
Give it a few hours and maybe someone with higher knowledge of mac+android will chime in.
The phone is blank right now, I would hesitate to even try to turn it on. You could use windows and Odin. You might be able to adb the files to the device..But that is more learning/hassle than the SD. Using the SD is really the easiest.
I'd let you borrow mine but shipping would take a while (haha)
I have an iMac and have the same problem. Android file transfer doesn't even recognize my device for MTP transfer. But I have four other windows machines here, so no biggie for me.
How would you go about doing it using windows?

Install Odin and grab the stock OS files
Place the phone into download
And push the stock os to the phone
It would be as if you were going back to full stock.
There are numerous guides on how to do it.

For ATT they all seem to be in .zip file format yet you cant use that with odin so how would i go about doing this?
How do you place a file directly into a directory so i can use recovery to flash it on?!

[Q] Can't connect usb, and framaroot won't work, how can I root this phone?

When I got into the download mode, it seems the user before me put roms on it, at least it gives me a number 7 towards the top which made me think they were roms.
I wasn't able to at first, but I am able to get it to the recovery mode now, that looks similar to clockwork mod, but it may just be standard on droids now, idk.
Can I use the Mr Robinson zip or md5 file (http://www.xda-developers.com/how-to-root-the-samsung-galaxy-s-iii-xda-developer-tv/) and flash through the recovery (will it still update the radios, and they other things, I downloaded the 4.11 version (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1771687) since that is what my s3 is running TMO T999UVDLJC and the zip file md5 checked out.
If this is not possible, what are my other options to get
the phone rooted?
Edit: I am also running avast on this phone, it detects the apk and application of framaroot and I get error 7 for Armada (not sure on name) and error 9 with the one that begins with a G.
Thank you all in advance.
You can use LJC if you want. You'll be rooted and it'll flash the modem and bootloader as well but they will be the same ones
Using recovery right? I keep it in the zip or unzip it?
Which option, think it has update from cache, and another from folder
Thanks for the quick reply seeing how it's a rather old phone.
No, you flash it with Odin. And unzip it
I cannot connect my phone to pc, it won't detect it and framaroot doesn't work.
Or is there another way to use odin or something?
Are you connecting the phone to a Windows machine? Is there something wrong with the phone's USB port that causes it not to be recognized by the computer? Have you tried different ports and USB cables?
Try towelroot or cf-auto-root
Thank you, towelroot got me rooted, thought it was fornewer phones.
The uUSB cord works for an s6, but not this phone.
Going to try a couple apps that I needed root for.
Should I run the Mr Robinson zip if I am able to get the phone to connect? Or is everything the same? Or will it cause problems?
Edit: I am running windows 8.1. This could be a problem?
There should be no need to run other apps if the phone has root access.
You can check root by installing an app such as Titanium Backup.

Click to collapse
If it's rooted, no need to do anything else
I used root checker basic.
OK great, I'll grab ROM manager and clockmod to install others and follow some guides.
If you have any remaining tips, please let me know. Still can't connect to a PC, hhaven't tried another PC yet.
