[Q] Is G3 still good buy vs S5, M8 eye, Z3c? - G3 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi guys, its time to buy a new phone, retire my XSP and use the new phone for about 2 years so Im looking for the best solution, want a device which will get andorid M.. I like G3 the most because of its look, and some its features like knock on., IR blaster, etc. But I read all over about its bad battery life, lag and some cracked lines on the edges, and I want a safe buy, dont have money to buy another for some time. So please give me your opinion would you buy it again now or some other device from list I can afford (S5, M8 eye, Z3c)? Thank you. Would like a phone with front facing speakers, good camera, IR, and good battery life but i guess it doesn't exist, either M8 and M8eye fail in something, and G3 can work with 1W back speaker if other things are good.

G3 here ,,

I absolutely love my G3 which I bought 2 months ago. The only thing I feel as a issue is that it battery life(which is not that bad ) and the overheating issues. But after installing a custom rom the problems are log gone. The device is excellent and is worth the money. Love it.

honestly. i dont regret getting a lg g3. it is probably the best phone i have got in my life. For its price right now, the lg g3 is probably one of the best phone u can find for that kind of money.

Thanks, in my case, S5 and G3 cost the same, so Its just about specs and which one showed better in real everyday usage.

Battery isn't that good. But G3 got the loudest speaker I've ever had, it's just perfect. No cracking here, not even overheating after setting up different cpu governor.

So battery is not like on M8 or S5, or even close to them? Dont get it, some have cracked frame, the others dont.

Well, some people are getting 5h SoT time, but that's not my case. I have always data on, and never exceeded 2,5 hours of SoT.
I have no idea how did they get their frame cracked..

[Q] opinion needed thinking of selling it already..

Need help guys these niggles are starting to bother me...
1.the heat problem when playing games for longer than 5 mins is stupid its even worse when you turn off the auto turn down brightness restriction off..super gets hot...if you dont play games its fine general browsing etc
2.the warm colour effects are not right colours look washed out at times..
3.battery barely lasts a day which i think is linked to heat problem..cpu working at 1 million miles per hour lol.
4.qhd tech makes either games look horrible or look ok or dont exists on the playstore (device not compatible) or some games simply crash
I love the looks, the feel, and operation
Im an occasional user, dont play games for long, great phone
But my question is will firmwares fix these problems?? Or is it the fact if we dont play games. And put up with rest its fine??
It's a new device so in my opinion you should wait for firmware updates rather than selling it now.

I know but 801 chip i feel isnt really designed for qhd..where the rumored prime has 805..so lg had to make sacrifices to make it all work how it should.
It puzzles me how LG allowed a phone to come out with issues that in many cases isnt minor the heat issue especially..and compensate they turn the brightness down turning tge restriction off on the hidden simply fries when you are playing any games
I hope LG has magic up there sleeves i do..
Sell it... to me for $10.
If you don't like it, sell it
Personally I don't have any of the issues you're mentioning, extra heat is no big deal in my opinion, and I play games a lot.... Battery time is good for me, around 4h to 4h30 screen-on time, better than my tweaked S4 was.
In fact the only issue I have with the phone currently is the size, I still find it a little too big for my hands, but I'm sure I'll get used to it eventually
For your question, firmware fixes will probably make a little bit of a difference for battery / heating, but you're likely to have better results with custom kernel, when they become available (I'd say we still have a couple of weeks to wait before we see some serious development happening on the G3).

I must admit, I'm contemplating selling mine too though I don't really have any of the problems you mention. Just not feeling it for some reason. I have backlight bleed all the way round but, again, it doesn't bother me much.
I'm thinking about the galaxy prime (or F). Ideally something with a 5.2inch amoled screen (1080p would do) with slim bezel and metal back, removable battery, sd-card slot...
The Xiaomi mi3 looks nice if the spec was upped a bit

Yep same here you expect to have god in the palm of your hands and you don't I'm thinking about the prime as well funnily enough,,,,that excites me more than what I have and the thing isn't confirmed if its real yet and plus it will have a smaller screen...I like the lg g3 size its nice...
Yes a few more weeks...hopefully devs we pick up the pace with custom roms etc,,,
I have always had the reasoning, soon as you doubt something and want to sell it. Do so, otherwise you'll be looking for niggles and you'll find them and then it'll just annoy you until you sell it on.
Ultimately only you can decide, but if you're already doubting it. Get shot now while you can and won't lose any money.

Hi Guys...
Well its on ebay now...I just wasn't feeling it...
Good luck guys, hope all works out LG fix the kinks and the devs flood the gates with custom roms etc..
I am in the same boat as you. Think about selling or returning it everyday but the issue is I am on AT&T. If I return it then I don't see any other viable option. Not interested in S5 ( no more Samsung), can't stand the black bar on M8 and obviously a big no for microscopic iPhone. So I would have to sell it. So for the time being I am just using it carefully and if I don't see any unlocking for bootloader I will sell it in a month and go back to using my N5.
Returning mine to cpw for a refund even tho I've had for a month there willing to refund me
just sell it and get an iphone

well here's my logic. the moment you need Roms and root to fix a out of the box experience its going back. :good: sometimes its nice to buy a phone and just use it. but yes this is XDA so go ahead throw rocks at me
I played with one at a store the other day and was not impressed. It definitely looks and feels nicer than the G2 (I owned) but I saw so much lag I couldn't believe it.
If LG sold that as a Nexus I'd sell my Nexus 5 in a split second. They've come much farther with their UI than the G2 (hated that UI with a passion) but it's still clunky.
There is NO reason lag should be present on a 2014 flagship phone with 3GB of RAM. No excuse other than pooey software.

I decided to switch from samsung as its built quality is terrible (also, i hate the ugly home button). i m actually looking forward to get this phone. is it still worth to get it now? as i am quite busy lately, i dont plan to root it anymore.. can i still freeze some built in apps i dont need?

Hey, man. I'm having the same dilemma. I'm looking for a 300-350 $ smartphone and I think this is the best available, but don't know if this phone is worth it after a year from it's release. Can anybody advice us?
I got the phone less than a month ago. As far as I'm concerned, it's still right up their with the top of the line phones spec wise. Nothing wrong with getting this phone now. 3GB of RAM, a fast processor, updated to Lollipop. Not sure what else anyone needs in a smartphone. Plus a 5.5" screen with a great display and LG's UX is much better than Samsung's TW if you ask me.
To the OP, you won't be able to freeze apps without root, but you can uninstall updates/disable any app that you don't want to use or see anymore. You can't completely uninstall them, but they won't be running or seen. Any Lollipop phone can do this.

Ive just done exactly what you folks are asking today. Returnred my Note 4 as I really hate TW with a passion and that horrible screen touch "pop pop" everytime you press something. I bought the N4 a few days ago, hoping that Sammy had done something with TW in 501 update, albeit they havent.. and I found I had no use for the S-Pen, but I do think the N4 QHD screen is stunning. I returned the N4 and bought a G3 and got money back... .. amazing phone, loving it so far.. and the audio is awesome, with the QuadBeat Headphones and 1Amp speaker.

I agree ... The G3 is a great phone and apart from the G4, theres nothing on the market that touches it.. the S6 still has TW, The One M9 is just an M8 with a new camera. theres no new Nokia/MS flagships yet, the NExus 6 is an alternative if you want pure Android, so ATM... the G3 is one of the best phones out there until the G4 comes down in price (which I cant wait for), but at the moment the G4 is too pricey.
Go for it, buy the G3, you can pick up a Brand New unlocked/Unbranded G3 for about £350/$400 .. so yeah... I recommend it
Good luck
Thank you guys, I'll follow your advices and my gut. Soon I'll be part of the G3 family.
I got mine from amazon Wednesday to replace my z2. The phone is amazing. http://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/aw/d/B00...ords=lg+g3&dpPl=1&dpID=41uvCd6+PVL&ref=plSrch this is where i got mine
I'm a phone-a-holic lol and rarely keep one for more than 6 months before moving onto something else newer and better. Over the years this is by far the best phone I've owned. It almost seems impossible to brick. It can be but simple to get out of a soft brick. Go for the g3 you won't be disappointed.

What Should I do ???

Hey Guys Long Story Short I bought a G4 awesome phone In love with it but i think i want to replace it with a G3 nothing wrong with the G4 just that i am more of ROM flash-aholic and the G4 Still doesn't have that much roms ..
So Should i ?? Can you guys who actually used the phone and know its pros and cons firsthand tell me about them !
( I know i should seek therapy for my addiction ,but just help me out here ) :silly: :silly: :silly: :cyclops:
Also im gonna ask the g4 forums the same question
I've got both phones. The two major things you give up by going with the G3 is picture quality and battery life. Both areas take a very noticeable dip. The great things about the G3 are ROMs and not having send it away to get fixed for the boot loop issue.
The G4 with the curve leather back is much more comfortable and secure to hold but that's really secondary.

This probably belongs in Q & A or another sub forum entirely but I've owed both so I'll share..
As far as performance the g4 beats the pants off the g3 so unless you're trying to save money there's no reason to get one.
There's a good amount of ROMs for the g4, more than enough. At least 6-8 near perfect aosp options and a handful of stock ROMs.
That being said, if your looking for a cheap phone with development support, get a nexus 5, n6, n5x, HTC m8 or m9. Yes the g3 has a lot of ROMs but the aosp will lack camera driver sources and has no laser auto focus. Doesn't really make sense to get one solely for dev support when there is a whole nexus line.
Only reason id take g3 over g4 is the fact that the bootloaders are locked tight no twrp except for a couple models. There is root and a few good mods for g4 On lolipop only.
Ive only had mine a few weeks. Im starting to home up to it. Imo root it. Debloat it. And. Expose it. The camera is perfect g4. Batery is ok i thing g3 beat it a little. And price wise wait til the g5 comes out and the g4s should take a dive too. The g4 is smoother than g3 dosnt get nowhere near as hot. Some of the g3s overheat bad. Ive done the hardware thermal paste mods on both of mine. Id keep the g4. It wont disapoint.
I really regret upgrading from the G3 to the G4. It wasn't worth the upgrade/money/headache. It's not that noticeable of an upgrade to begin with, not to mention the G3 is far easier to root/mod and you don't have to deal with the bootloop issue.
Subscribed to this thread too. I'm looking to upgrade from a Samsung Galaxy S2 and have pretty much narrowed it down to an LG G4 as it ticks all my boxes.
I don't like bloatware though and I run a Dirty Unicorns Lollipop ROM on my SGS2, so I am looking for something that will have development/updates for probably the next 2-3 years at least.
The Nexus line sound good, but the 6P is too big and too pricey, the 5X feels really nice in the hand, but the non-removable battery, no micro SD support and maximum 32gb model are deal breakers for me unfortunately. I would fill that storage up with music alone on day one, which doesn't bode well for future proofing.
Moto G 3rd gen looked to tick all my boxes also, but it has no gyro sensor and I just bought a Google Cardboard, so again, that is a deal breaker for me.
Sorry for hijacking, but yeah, I'm currently swinging back and forth between G3 or G4.

Going to buy LG G4, Need some guidance.

I am going to buy LG G4. I have heard a lot about hardware failure of this phone. So, what is your opinion on this? Need your guidance, please.

My opinion would be to buy a G3 or Moto X Pure, if you're looking for something on the cheaper end. G4 is a mess.
If extra cash isn't an issue I'd say wait and check out the HTC 10 tomorrow. The Huawei Mate 8 looks sweet, too, if you can find one.
A lot of boot loop issues with early production models. It may not be the case with later production models, but these boot loop issues take 5-8 months to show. If you are buying brand new, make sure you have at least a 12 month warranty.

I had am M9 for less than a week. It's a beautiful phone that functioned fine but it got hot fast. I had GPS on for maybe five minutes and the phone got hot enough for me to feel it on my leg through my jeans. Very warm. If you can handle that, it's a nice phone.

If I may throw my hat in the ring, I have a G4 and am quite dissatisfied. I am getting a Nexus for my next phone and I suggest you take a good look at them as well.
G4 is a beautiful device it does as commands and is loyal. I bought mine recently and it looks elegant with brown leather. Yes it had hardware failure with 505 and i did get mine keeping that in mind. I own a 512 EU H model. Rooted. Works as a charm. Still optimus has its moments but
Thank god it isnt touchwiz. The camera is jewel and it paints magnificently on the patriot class 10 64gb i reserved for it. Other than that its your call.

Another vote for the nexus 6p from me. A big amoled screen with front facing speaker running the latest android is a perfect combination. It may be expensive outside the US but if u already consider the m9, the 6p won't be much of a stretch in term of budget. No sdcard and removable battery are nexus' only downsides

I was excited because I finally got a phone that wasn't trash and was expecting to get the ROMs and Kernels etc. that a flagship usually has and was lucky enough to get with lesser phones like the original LG Volt. I was quickly screwed by LG. A spectacular phone ruined by hardware problems and a locked bootloader. I won't have these problems with a Nexus, plus the price is better and it has support for GSM and CDMA networks. I can go to and from any carrier I choose while not having to wait 9 months for them to push OTAs or load my phone with trash. It is for all intents and purposes, my dream phone. The only thing missing is external storage, which may change with the next one. If you don't care about root and what not, buy a Samsung. The hardware and software are superb, unless you don't like TouchWiz of course. I don't mind OEM skins, so it doesn't bother me but some hate it. If you don't want a sammy, I would also recommend HTC flagships, they are praised by everyone I know who owns one.

I guess it can be summed up as having too high of expectations.

Expectations can really be everything. If having complete control over the phone is the top priority, getting a Nexus is the obvious solution. Especially if you want other features like GSM/CDMA compatibility. And the quick updates are great of course.
I suppose I have the benefit of lower expectations - well, mainly in regards to the lack of an unlocked bootloader and the potential for bootloop issues (or the need for a warranty). For me, expandable storage is a must. As is having a great camera (and all the phones mentioned seemingly do). I also like the replaceable battery - as it has the potential to add long-term life to the phone. OEM skins aren't the worst thing, though TouchWiz isn't my favorite. Obviously, I would love complete control of the phone, or at least the ability to completely remove and bloatware I don't want, but most of the time I am happy enough using a launcher like Nova.
The Nexus is a little big for me as well. I'm coming from a 5" screen, so even the 5.5" on the G4 is a little big - and likely would be too big if not for the relatively small size of the phone otherwise. When I was at Best Buy recently, the S7 was definitely the best device to hold in my hand. Looks great, works great, but cost too much for me right now. Also, while this may not be a factor for everyone, the Gear VR did not meet my expectations - and certainly gave me concerns about impact on my eyes and/or brain, as well as doubtful how long the battery would last using it
In the end, ordering a G4 (with a US warranty) + case, screen protector and tax was less than $350. Sure, I won't be able to root it (at least right now), and I will always be cautious about the bootloop occurring, but that seems like a great deal for less than half the price of the S7, and $200+ less than a Nexus.
