Apparently I'm getting a sotware update from VZW, it's probably 5.1? I'm rooted, and have a few mods via exposed installer, my first question is, do I even want this update? Second, what steps do I need to take I order to have it install?

Being rooted shouldn't cause a problem w/ taking the OTA update, but having the Xposed app/mods and framework installed will.
Thanks, After a little research I found that it's just a patch, and not 5.1. not much added benefit from my current OS apparently.... Now I'm not sure if I even want it

you have rooted phone and because of that you are not able to update any OTA updates. This is one of things - if you root the phone you loose the ability to apply OTA uopdates
And please read the other threads as it's mentioned over and over and over and over and over and over and over again

I believe there's an Xposed module that hides root functionality from certain apps. You ought to check it out. But then again Xposed probably isn't compatible with 4.5 version roms, so...
Not sure, there might be a solitary app out there that hides it.
I'm on the OTA MM 6.01 update. I'm trying to figure out exactly what app this is on my US SM-T800??
Also - we used to be able to see a list of apps that are currently running from within the app manager, how does one do this now?
EDIT Found it! Now located in the devoloper options...they re getting sneaky these samsung people.

I got prompted today to perform a software update on my Verizon S4 Mini. (SCH-i435)
I'm very hesitant to take it, though, as I'm afraid it might leave me root-less without any way to re-root. I'm guessing it patches Dirty Cow at the very least. I saw an SIII Mini owner said it replaced the Linux kernel, but did not update to a newer version of Android. Does anyone know the details for sure?

Is this the alleged oreo update? Will it unroot my phone if I apply it?

No it is a security patch. Not oreo. If you're rooted, trying to install this will bootloop your phone.
