Flashing Roms

I just switched over from at&t Xperia ion to the note 2 and I was wondering if I would need to have at&t push internet settings to me if I use a custom Rom like cyanogenmod or aokp or paranoid android
Or even Jedi Rom
SENT FROM MY SAMSUNG GALAXY NOTE 2 USING TAPATALK 4 BETA
Your talking about data on the network correct ??
CM will contain the proper APN's to get network connection and data.
PA may not....
Once you flash the Rom you want, go into the APN settings and check...
You can find the entire APN list for all carriers in the dev section under the everything thread...and verify you have the correct one. If not, create a new one and save it to the new rom....done
Radio images will generally not be changed unless you push a stock build via Odin. so you wont need to worry about that unless there is a problem....g
Thanks

Only official updates can be flashed using the stock 3e recovery. ...generally speaking. .
You will need a custom recovery. .
I prefer TWRP...but CWM is perfectly fine also. ...TWRP gives you more options and has better support. .
Edit: always use the latest version of recovery. .regardless of which recovery you choose. ..
And once you have your recovery flashed..run a full backup of your current rom. Keep 1 copy on the external SD card, and send a copy to PC as well.
Then you are prepared.
Note: TWRP will allow you to back up the EFS folder and modem information. You select these as options in the backup process.
It is always wise to select yes on these files. ..or rather. ..all files until you are comfortable with the flashing process. ..as these files contain your IMEI number and other critical files needed for device function. ...g
How do I get to download mode after using the cf auto root. I can only get to stick recovery

SENT FROM MY SAMSUNG GALAXY NOTE 2 USING TAPATALK 4 BETA
Also do I need unlocked bl to flash kernels?
SENT FROM MY SAMSUNG GALAXY NOTE 2 USING TAPATALK 4 BETA
Mobile Odin will push your new recovery just fine. ..
Ignore the bootloader altogether. ...because once you have root with a custom recovery you are unlocked. .
You can push any kernel using a .zip file from your new recovery. ..
Download mode is opened by turning off the device. ..
Then push and hold volume down. ..home button. ..and power. ....
Once DL mode is open....push volume up when ready to flash a file. ..
Use PC Odin. ...IMHO.....and don't change and fields when it opens on PC.....g
Thanks for the help. I'm a total noobie to the note 2. With the chorus ion you had to have unlocked bl for every thing

Enjoy the note 2...it's a fantastic device. ..g
Few more questions: what kernel would you prefer for aosp Roms(specifically ultimate kang and paranoid android and PAC man)?, can i flash back touch wiz Roms after having aosp?, what kernel would you prefer for touch wiz based Roms?
SENT FROM MY SAMSUNG GALAXY NOTE 2 USING TAPATALK 4 BETA
For TW based Roms.....I really like saber kernel ...
For AOSP....I like the dual boot devil kernel ...
Both run excellent ...and have good battery life ...
Yes you can switch back to TW roms easily...so long as you "fully" wipe the device before flashing...
The radio image is to be left alone...as it will not be touched in the flashing process ....g
What touch wiz based ROM would you recommend. I tried the noteorious prime ROM and i was having lte problems so I'm looking for another. Right now I'm running pa 3.55 and it's a real battery killer so I'm looking for one with touchwiz base that's smooth fast and has great battery management

Update to 4.4 not working.

Hi all,
I have tried to update to 4.4 from 4.3 several times but it keeps failing. My tablet works fine still. I am on jss15r, I am rooted, and running multiRom with his stock kernal. I have gotten notice 2 times that 4.4 was available for download via ota and have tried to install it. It reboots into twrp and then runs for about 30 seconds the takes me to the main menu. I have tried to upgrade manually to 4.4 via some .zip files and twrp. Nothing seems to be working. Anybody had this problem or know how to fix it??

You to at least be on the stock rom. I was able to sideload the update through adb with TWRP.

I am on Stock Rom, I just modified the kernal to run MultiRom. Should i revert back and then try to manually update via ADB sideload?
Everywhere that I look says you need to be on completely stock rom. I'm assuming that means stock kernel too.

bkwright87 is correct. Some people get lucky and can take an OTA through a custom recovery, but it doesn't normally work. You need to return to bone stock then take the OTA or just skip a step and flash the kitkat files manually.

Boot Loop after trying to Flash Cyanogenmod 11 through AutoRec?

Hello,
I am very new to rooting, and just rooted my Sprint LG G2 with 4.4.2 KitKat through IORoot 25 and then used AutoRec as my TWRP. I then downloaded Cyanogenmod11 from its website onto my phone, and tried to flash install it through AutoRec. However, when I try to install the CM11 ROM, I get the "MD5 not found" message, and when I try to reboot after this, my phone goes into what I think is Bootloop (the LG home screen continuously turns on for a couple seconds, then stops for a split second, and then turns back on for a couple seconds). Fortunately, I am was able to hard restart my phone by holding Power and Volume Up together while this screen is on, and I was able to restore my phone with the backup I made, and my phone is now working fine with the stock ROM. Has anyone else had this problem before, and if so is there a better way for my to install custom ROM, and/or fix that MD5 message? Does anyone know what that MD5 message means?
One other note, I have been doing some reading and I currently have ZVC radio. I'm not sure what this means exactly, but would this make a difference?
Thanks!
If you are on 4.4.2 cm won't work on that version yet

Interesting, thanks. Are there any ROMs that work for 4.4.2 that people have been using, or am I pretty much stuck with the stock ROM until CM is updated?
Cloudyfa has some in the G2 android development forum. There are some others that will work with sprint.

anyway i sorted the problem by using the cm11 version on this link

i simply downloaded the one here and installed, (skipped all the steps and just put it in the internal memory and flashed it)

New issues in stock Marshmallow

Today I flashed the Marshmallow stock firmware (from general section).
I rooted it successfully using CFAR method.
I registered my fingerprint and chose it to unlock screen and it was ok...until I restarted the phone there was a message appeared
((Unable to use fingerprint to unlock, enter backup password ))
What is the problem?
And when I trying to enable the Reactivaton Lock it doesn't activate.
I am still in stock recovery.
Any fixes?[emoji30]
Updated :-
#1) If anybody get MM OTA please tell us ,did you notice the fingerprint issue when you restarted your device?
Fix: Maybe it's a normal thing. not an issue.
#2)Today after I restored my EFS partitions backup by using flashfire app my fingerprint doesn't work at all.
Fix: Maybe the ID information included in efs partition so the fix is wipe system, data, cache and dalvik cache then odin the pc1 firmware again or get OTA.
#3) Some apps don't have permission to write to external SD card.
Fix(partial): Backup your files in external SD card then format the SD card inside the mobile..... After that you'll find some apps have the permission to write to external SD card and some of them don't have... For now I don't know why some apps still don't have permission to do that.
I know there's a feature in Marshmallow that you can make the external storage as a portable or internal storage but I don't find it in our note 4.
#4) Sometimes the screen doesn't turned off automatically and still awake although it setting is to turn off after 1 minute.
Fix:
#5) How to find a solution to hide the external storage notification message?

Just Odin to OK1 and then take the Ota update in System Update tab in Settings. It's the safer way to avoid getting problems. I don't have that issue you mentioned.
Stuck in Ultra Power Saving Mode
I installed the OTA last night and turned on Ultra Power Saving Mode. I selected the option from the drag down menu to turn it off. I was prompted to select my launcher. I chose Google Now and a notification popped telling me Google Now is my default and how to change it. It is now stuck in black and white with my Google Now home screen but the only available settings are the same as if in Ultra Power Saving Mode. Please help.

This appears to be the new normal. With stock MM on the note 4 I have to enter the password to open the phone after a reboot. After that the fingerprint reader works normally until the next reboot. Anyone have any different behavior?

Is that normal ?
So choosing pin code or password to unlock the screen is better than using fingerprint scanner.

There are a lot of differences between utilizing Odin and OTA. What differences are going to affect this issue in particular would take some research but doing things the "right" way sometimes takes longer in the short term but almost always saves headaches in the long run.
If I were you I would do some research on how Odin transfers, correlates and then installs data as opposed to the way its done via OTA. It would be a lot to type on here, but the way that I always think about it is this... Its always better to install stock software the stock method and then modify from a solid base rather than starting with potentially modified software, modified installation (there's a lot of room for error between someone extracting the data, uploading it, you downloading it, you placing it into Odin, transferring that data via USB to your phone, then the software actually installing) and then modifying on top of those modifications.... It's simple and complicated.

It will be a long jurney because I haven't got the OK1 tar file...I have to odin the OJ6 tar then take the OTA OK1.
After that I have to take the MM PC1 OTA.
All that with a limited bandwidth and internet speed of 1Mbps only.
So I'll wait until there will be a stable and good rom to flash.

You can easily get root and custom recovery without any problems in Marshmallow 6.0.1.
You don't have to go back to 5.1.1 to do these things.
Use chainfire Auto-Root to root.
And twrp recovery all from download mode.

In past I was more interested in custom roms.
But know I prefer Stock rooted roms.
So I didn't try any custom MM roms because until now all custom MM roms are beta and maybe not stable.
So wait until one of the developers releases a stable custom rom.

Idea for Note 5 patch for MM

One idea but note tested:
FIRST BACKUP!!!!
Extract LP patch
replace boot image with MM stock image
zip back up
reboot in recovery
flash zip
Don't reboot!!!!
Flash Root for MM
Reboot and test
May be a temp fix to the issue.
Make sure you re-flash twrp after all said and done.
Just a Thought.
Is this the patch for making note 5 roms work on s6 edge plus??

Try backing up boot image only in twrp
Flash rom
Restore boot image
Reboot
These are just shots in the dark.
We need a rooted kernel or custom kernel for 6.0.1 to flash on top of the Rom.
I've pm'd the guy the made the sky one but no reply. Even sent him a copy of our boot image. His kernel worked as a patch as well on JB. I didn't create the first patch monkey did. I don't know much in that area. I have everything I need far as custom systems go besides a custom kernel. All day battery blah blah blah.
I've sent messages myself, really all that's keeping us from flashing any of the other s6+ Roms is the kernel
