This mod is working very well for me and I have had no network issues after removing ItsOn with this method but as always make a backup.
Portal post that talks about ItsOn
this will remove the itson data from:
ramdisk
/carrier/itson
/system/vendor/itson
/system/priv-app/ItsOn
flash in recovery like any other zip. ONLY FOR SPRINT SM-G920P running 5.1.1 OFE.
thanks to OMJ and captainthrowback from the m8 section for this mod and datajosh for his rooted OFE boot.img
What is ItsOn, and why did you remove it?
sam mobile has the 5.1.1 tar. So we do have it. http://www.sammobile.com/firmwares/download/50545/G920PVPU2BOF7_G920PSPT2BOF7_SPR/

Just looked thru it and yes you are correct.
haha yeah I was going in to do the FHA mod and saw it was already there, I was kinda baffled because I didnt do anything for it to be changed, and the OP didnt mention the change being integrated :good:
It would probably be a good idea to explain its purpose and why to remove it. I dont have a full explanation what I have heard is itson is a battery hog and is for non contract accounts such as boost and what not someone correct me if Im wrong thanks

okay cool man!!
Was kinda scared to flash this tbh. Cuz i was outta town. But basically its on will constantly turn on your wifi on and off and look for connections if you arent connected to wifi.

That's the Sprint connections optimizer, although ItsOn could include that.
I've scoured the internet and the only explanations I could find conflicted each other. Some claimed it killed their battery without explaining why, some said it was harmless, and one guy said it was just an app for no contact users to manage their plan. Unless I can figure out what this does in full detail, I'm hesitant to remove it from my phone.

No. Its on turns wifi on and off also. Its in the permissions thing and i saw it turn my wifi on and off with connection optimizer removed. All it is is bloat. Sprint is the only carrier wirh the app.
Lot of guessing for what the purpose of itson is so heres the break down from what I have read it has no control over wifi or have anything to do with connection optimizer heres sprints press release so you guys know what it is...

So I tried this yesterday and got a boot loop because I was on OE firmware but i went ahead and flashed OE7 via ODIN and was able to recover without losing data.
Something I noticed though, theres a flashable .tar to keep ROOT enabled on another thread http://forum.xda-developers.com/sprint-galaxy-s6/general/how-to-to-100-stock-root-t3075448
When I flashed that root file, then if I used the ItsON remover in twrp, it would cause my phone to get stuck at the yellow sprint spark screen.
I even did a a full 5 partition backup in twrp before flashing it, then after it got suck, doing a full restore would not fix the getting stuck at the screen.
I ended up having to reflash the full OE7 and root again in order to get my phone to work.
Not sure if thats related or not to what happened, but process of elimination tells me there may be something interfering with the root method on OE7 thats out.
Just beware if you are in my situation and have something similar happen... ( this is the first time in 5 years of modding android that a nandroid or twrp recovery didnt't reverse a boot problem) At least you know the phone isnt bricked. It may take a few tries to get it back into recovery since we cant battery pull, timing on restarting is of the essence.
I have not been able to get this zip to work at all for me.
The only other thing interfering possibly is i use titanium to freeze knox and some samsung apps.
I can confirm that for me at least it was the root of the problem for turning on wifi whenever it felt like it, being dealing with this problem since the beginning, everytime that I got the hotspot on it was trying to turn on wifi giving me a pop up every 5 minutes or so, and after flashing this zip the problem is finally gone.. thank you.

Will there be a version of this coming out for OFE? I would like to use this but I read that I will probably boot loop. I dont want that. So please let me know. My battery life after upgrading to OFE is better but not awesome.

The official update before the official release. Here's the link: http://android.clients.google.com/p...c0.signed-sojus-GRJ90-from-GRJ22.39fe4c59.zip. Enjoy!
What it does: "These enhancements should increase 4G data speeds and signal strength for users. The software update also improves Wi-Fi connectivity, speakerphone audio quality and adds TTY support for the deaf and hard of hearing,” the wireless carrier announced at that time.
Instructions:
1. To begin, download the update from the link above and rename it to update.zip (.zip being the extension.).
2. Copy the update to the root of your SD card and reboot your phone into recovery. (Hold the Volume up button as you press the Power button.)
3. Choose Recovery from the bootloader menu and you will see a triangle with an exclamation mark.
4. Press the Volume up key a few times till the recovery screen shows up.
5. Once in recovery, select Apply sdcard update.zip and this will begin the flashing process.
6. Once the installation is complete, simply reboot your device!
That’s it, your device should now boot up with the new 2.3.5 firmware!
It also removes the free hotspot apparently. Which was bound to happen sooner or later.
Also, this isn't the first thread on it.
Is it really required to name it update.zip? When you go through stock recovery it lets you pick whatever filename you want.
This was suppose to be a "Pure Google" phone. Why is Sprint screwing around with the build and modifying it to block the HotSpot feature? This is why I got the phone in the 1st place. I guess I'll live on 2.3.4 till further notice.

check your contract.
Is this just a normal update that won't wipe /data?
Stock Rooted ROMs (GRJ90) are here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1078213
You wont lose data but I recommend atleast wiping cache and dalvik cache.
I pushed the volume up key forever and it still never brought up recovery. Am I doing something wrong??

I'm assuming since you need to boot into recovery to flash this update that you also need to have a rooted phone?
Yes you do have to boot into recovery but you don't need a rooted device.
Nevermind I figured it out. Updated with 2.3.5 and now rooted again

check your contract buddy, google builds it so if need be it can be used in their phones. go ahead and stay on 2.3.4 not like you can root your phone and use one of the apps in the market that still work and even tether 4g "for free".
I know you have some sort of entitlement to get something everyone else pays for. I can guess that your one of those people that write bad reviews for amazon free apps, just cause you wanted something else

wow there was really no need for this. my guess is his resentment towards sprint making moves to block tethering is real simple. the nexus on tmobile has free tethering and has had it since launch. the nexus s has had free tethering and still does, the nexus s 4g ships with 4g tethering, yet day 1 we get an update to stop that. whatever i can understand not overloading their already poor 4g network, but now the nexus s 4g is teh only nexus phone without tethering. i mean hell even chromebooks get a year of verizon tethering for free.

How i see it aslong as im able to tether, im fine. Thats why i use the google tether apk... its all good i aint complaining lol. Remember sprint has true UNLMT data not like the other carriers that say unlimites data yett u only get 2gbs to start after that its a charge lol... where does unlimited fall into place when u only provided 2 gbs free to use? Thats why i dont complain about sprint cause they got it going

I believe you are correct.
On the matter of tethering, I have heard some people can still tether while others can not after this update. Could this be a glitch? Sun spots perhaps? Chuck Norris threw up a tethering shield? We don't really know do we? I guess unless Sprint comes out and confirms this, we can only assume they intended to give us an update to block this feature.
I could be misinformed, for that, forgive me in advance and carry on.
Hello. I finally decided to root my galaxy s3 a few days ago. After I did so I downloaded some themes, ad block, etc. the normal stuff. The next day I started noticing something odd with the phone, such as very poor data connection (I can restart the phone and it will say I am on 4g for a minute or two although the connection doesn't say the same, but then it will either go to EDGE or give me no connection at all.) and poor network (says I have good bars but texts don't send often and take 10 minutes to receive; phone calls drop.}
I took the device to the AT&T store and got a new SIM card and that did nothing. 45 minutes of "support" did even less for me. I unrooted it, factory restored it, nothing.
I am desperate, if anyone would give me a workaround / fix, it would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

Thank you, now for the QCN..........I will be very happy when this is fixed lol.
So whenever I try to create a QCN I am unable to find it in the location I placed it, and I have hidden files visible. When I try to slide it to a different folder it says the file doesn't exist anymore. My phone has moved to "Unspecified" in devices and printers and I am unable to access any of its files even after trying to reinstall drivers multiple times (it gets stuck on the 5th one...network something...). Does anyone have any suggestions on how to resolve the problem with not being able to access my phone?
Ok I figured out how to access my phone and I think installing a new modem fixed it.....we will wait a couple hours and see.
Ok, So I have an Epic 4g flashed to Cricket, I have made everything work(mms, test, talk, ect.) I have it on Android 4.1.2. My problem is I only get 3G and its not very dependable. I live in Phoenix, A.Z. Anyone have any ideas on what to do?

I don't use a MVNO, so I am not sure which regular troubleshooting steps would clear away your carrier settings. (I'm thinking using EFS Clear in Odin is the only concern, but that is sometimes needed for modem issues.)
Based off that rom's thread, you must be using the NS4G modem. Since your issue is with connectivity:
Perform a CWM backup of your current setup.
Flash an Epic modem rom and FC09 modem. (You can flash the modem using CWM. There's a thread in the dev forum w/ links.)
Try testing connection again.
I'd normally tell a Sprint Epic user to boot into FC09 multiboot and update profile & PRL, but I don't even think the PRL update would work for you. I'd then say, start from scratch by using Odin to flash FC09 with repartition checked. If they still had issues with connectivity, then I'd recommend using EFS clear in Odin when reflashing either just the FC09 modem or the entire FC09 tar.
Because you are on another carrier, I'm weary of suggesting you use Odin so quickly. If you haven't already, dive into your phone settings and document your carrier specific info you changed to get it working. This way, if you end up doing something that resets your original changes, then you can reconfigure it.
So give the suggestion that is listed above a try.
Since I'm very much a noob myself, I'm only tossing this out to possibly trigger an idea for someone else: Would perhaps the issue lie in the Build.prop or one of those similar files? I've poked around so many of them I can't remember which hold what tidbits of info... I know the Build.prop holds most of the primary carrier info, but I seem to recall another one that stored a bunch of info for a bunch of the other carriers (though that might have been for roaming and may not be of any help here).
*shrug* Otherwise, I's gots nothin' lol

I not clear on what you're asking. I'm running a doexidiezed stock MC2 rom. I see there is a Hotstop toggle in the settings for Wireless and Network. Since I don't subscribe to Sprint's hotspot service, I don't know if it works or not. I use Trev E Mod's WiFi tether instead.
Don't know about the zip file you seek.

If you used the same download to flash both phones I would just reflash the one without hotspot. If you used different downloads then I would redownload then reflash. Phones can be very individualistic and quirky. What doesn't take in one flash will take in another and what works on one phone won't always on another. Just ask any of the Devs putting out ROMs
As to the zip you are looking for I have a copy and you can download it here.
so you have two different phones. I assume both on MetroPCS. Are they both SPH-L900 (the sprint GN2 variant)? Did you have the exact same rom on both? You're leaving a lot of out, and we're having to guess on the info that's needed to make a good suggestion.
My initial though, is the rom suppose to have the hotspot? It's possible it was removed.
And even if was there, I have no idea if it would work. one, I don't know if Metro offers hotspot service. two, I'm not sure where the hotspot would try to go--metro or sprint.

I don't beleave it was removed from rom cause its on one phone but not the other I have wiped everything on both phones before flashing the rom several times this makes no sense to me also reguaedless of be on metro the hotspot app will not go to sprint it will go to metro or where your internet is programmed to (m.I.p. and ppp) ofcouse u have to unlock the hotspot in services.jar for it to work but that's not a problem I have done this many times and flashed hundreds of phones. I honestly am not even interested in the hotspot working just wana know y its on one phone and gone on another
well, that's definitely a quirky situation. Not a clue. I assume it was there with the previous ROM? You may have to format the phone, not just wipe the divack, cache and system. Something from the previous ROM and the new ROM may not be playing nice and somehow is still around despite the wipes you've been doing. Although, I don't think this is the likely scenario, it does occur here and there.
I'm not familiar with all the things involved with taking a phone to a different carrier. I know has more work than just a new ROM.

Im not sure wat is was but I downgraded to jc then back to mc2 and now its there. Changing carriers takes so settings chages in the nam programming for your mdn, min, mcc, mnc, sid also m.i.p. and ppp for internet and changing the prl. The mms is where people have trouble at for the most part just changing prl will give u talk and txt ( after dealing with getting your meid into the carriers inventory )

sounds like something didn't get removed when you went from whatever to MC2. At least you found a solution.
I didn't think switching carriers on the phone was the most difficult thing to do. I just knew there was more than just changing ROMs. Since I never looked into switching carriers seriously, what I learned about was more casual. I just know it's more difficult with Sprint having the built in SIM cards compared to other phones that do not.

When turning it on it will flick on and off then get stuck off, when i mean flick on and of it never fully turns on the on light comes on for maybe a split second then back of and just hands with it not being on or off and not usable.
I have flashed a multitude of roms and put stock rom back on but this problem will not go away and is random, sometimes removing the battery will help and it will work for a few hours or days then crap out again.
Tried and searched even did the copy the old etc/wifi setting over the orginal did not work.
getting close to the point of stamping on it and getting a Iphone:crying:
Thanks for any help

I have done factory resest 1,0000000000000 times and just flashed another 2 roms same problem.
If you are using wifi at your house etc..
Power down the router for your internet connection and reboot it..
This could also be a hardware issue...
It sounds like you have exhausted the other repair options with fresh installs and trouble shooting....g
Thanks no its nothing to do with a router its a phone issue.
Not connecting to router or anything for that matter just turning on wifi on the phone.
Pos is ready be thrown through a wall no one seems to know the reason
Also as wifi button is not working it also means hotspot is not working

No worries...
Unroot and reset is easy enough...g
Well downloaded the rom installed it and still no joy
Maybe the phone is just #@%$#@$.
Going to try re-partition see if that makes a difference.

Well tried a few more things and think i screwed it,
It now comes up with baseband unknown and the phone memory has dropped to 0 if i connect to the usb cable I can see the phone on the PC but has odd numbers when it comes to free memory and cannot create anything as says zero memory.
If i go to the phone there is no longer any signal and the memory is at 0 also.
I just re checked odin i think I clicked Nand erase all by mistake ooops
If you did erase the nand....the phone is effectively dead..
Unless you have a full backup to restore your EFS and IMEI #....then it's bye bye note2..
Oops is right....
Ya killed it....g
Edit:
Do you have a backup ??
That part about being careful was no joke....g
No back up so no phone.................
Could I not DL a nadro from online and flash it?
If that's not a option bye Note 2 I would like to say it had been a fun ride but you where a piece of crap and destroyed my trust in Android your brother SGS1 had a hand in destroying it also )
you cant download someone elses nandroid and use it..
sounds like operator error has runied another phone;
dont blame it on Android
I would agree operator ruined it im not blaming it very odd of you to read that from the sentence.
I stated my first android sgs1 no good nothing to do with anything other than the phone, inline mic and usb sound did not work GPS did not work Samsung stated no work around live with it. Note 2 over 6 months of no Wifi or hotspot makes phone useless for me as it is a required feature as country living no internet unless the phone works. Tried fixing and talking about it no joy so had already decided the phone was going in the trash, hence why im not that fussed that it bricked.
Very sorry about the phone...
It's a fine device...but is not a solve all...
No device is....g

Try this maybe you can still revive it it was done on S3 so you will just use cf auto root from original dev section and use custom rom for Note ll
