Sprint Note 4 running on AT&T ??? - Sprint Galaxy Note 4 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi guys i have been skimming this forum for years learning to root different phones and tablets, but only as a guest.
Today i had my sprint note 4 successfully unlocked and it now runs on AT&T through straight talk.
I am getting 10 times better service signal and data wise with hspa over sprints horrible 3g service in Virginia.
Anyway i am happy with everything, but i have a question. I have cross referenced the specs between the att, tmobile, verizon and sprint variants of the note 4 and all show they have the same bands available, what are the chances that someone has gotten AT&T true 4g lte working on a sprint branded phone, is it possible and if not why?.
Thanks in advance

If this is true. Good. Lots are speculating no data on the other variants while on the sprint note 4. So are you complete domestic unlocked or just unlocked for international. ?

Complete domestic unlock, able to use any mvno for AT&T or TMobile, im using straight talks AT&T network personally. Here is pics of my status, i have wifi on here at home is why it says data not connected, but im getting 7.9mb/s dl on hspa consistently

How were you able to unlock the sprint note 4?

http://idoneapps.webs.com/sprint-galaxy-global-unlock
Was recommended by another member on here, dude from this sight rooted and did the complete unlock remotely for me for 50 bucks. Cant beat it at all! Great customer service and the guy literally answered like 40 emails back and forth of questions i had before i even paid him.
Cant express how happy i am to actually be able to use my note 4 as intended. It was a paperweight with sprint service.

Try the nv item edit ie use nv calculator, qpst/qxdm, enable extra gsm/umts/lte bands. Then set your apn up with LTE or unspecified as bearer

there may be something wrong with your modem. I would suggest resetting modem changes and provisioning with a reset + ##786# + ##72786#, etc and put everything back to stock and start over. ..all just a suggestion as I am fairly sure that is the best you'll get out of the Note 4 (N910P)
you may want to go to frequencycheck and make sure the bands your attempting are even a possibility ...https://www.frequencycheck.com/comp...n920p-galaxy-note-5-td-lte-32gb-samsung-noble

May be your sim card. Is it a 4g sim?
Also make sure your apn is correct. Check this: https://www.att.com/esupport/article.html#!/wireless/KB424489

I am getting true 4G LTE through straight talk on my Sprint note edge. I used idoneapps to unlock it. Enabled ehrpd, enabled lte, and set 1x to hybrid. After restart I went to apn settings and selected automatic and used the straight talk apn that my lte Sim card came with. I am using a Sim card I got from a zte straight talk phone, not the Sim card packpack.

AT&T 3G data network on the T-Mobile G2

Hello everyone, this is my first thread so please be gentle!
I currently have a G1, and hope to put it to rest very soon, and get the new G2!
(staying true to the "G")
I use an AT&T sim card on my current G1.
I have been lurking (for quite some time now) on these forums trying to find an answer to using the AT&T Sim Card on the G2. I have yet to find my answer through searching.
The capabilities I'm looking for to use on a G2 with an AT&T sim card include:
at least 3G network data speeds
normal use of calling
(I live in the US, and I don't know if that allows me to have 3G instead of EDGE)
Some things I have found:
In one other forum it said the AT&T would work on the G2, however it would only work on the EDGE network. (which I believe is 2G? please clarify if you can)
"
TMO's 3G network runs on the 1700Mhz spectrum.
AT&T's 3G network runs on the 850 and 1900Mhz spectrum.
The G2 is incapable of operating on AT&T's 3G network but will work just fine on the EDGE network.
"
the "[Guide] Subsidy Unlock, SuperCID, and Radio S-OFF" presents a sim unlock, so would that mean I could use the 3G data networks on AT&T? and have local calling? or is that something else?
Thanks in advance!
The Subsidy Unlock would allow the use of the AT&T sim card. I'm quite sure you wouldn't get the 3G+ speeds. Edge only, just like the G1.

That was from someone in the sim unlock thread. Not sure if any network chosen means 2g/3g but I would think 3g would be supported.

It isn't just your phone, I don't think any phones ever come out with the correct bands for ATT and Tmobile...Even the N1 which is supposed to be a world phone was only EDGE on ATT
The T-Mobile G2 will not work with 3G on AT&T (as you stated in the original post, the 3G or UMTS bands are different). It will instead use the regular GSM bands for 2G data.
If you want a Desire Z that works on AT&T's 3G, you have to get the NAM version offered by Bell Canada (check out the Desire Z forums). Once unlocked, it'll work fine on AT&T's 3G network.

Actually, Nokia's latest smartphones are pentaband - they can use 3G on AT&T, T-Mobile, and the European networks. This includes the C7, N8, and upcoming E7.
I have the N8 right now and have used it on both AT&T and T-Mobile with 3G.

I have a NAM Unbranded/Unlocked version that I am using on AT&T as well. I purchased mine on Ebay, it was a little cheaper than buying it through Negri (which also didn't have any when I purchased mine)
Definitely works on 3G AND can be used with a 'dumb-phone' data plan ($10/month unlimited) =D

How do you get the $10/mo data plan? I don't have that option!
Yeah I know this is going a little off topic (sorry mods)
but I think he's talking about individual unlimited data plan for "basic" phones?
I kept trying to pester AT&T about it.
So is it true you don't need the DataPro plan in order to acheive 3G data networks with smartphones?
And you can use the "basic" unlimited data plan for cheaper for the same 3G networks?
The AT&T reps kept saying otherwise.
Thanks again all for the replies!

I have a family plan with an Iphone line (sister). My phone (originally a BB when contract signed) and 2 Dumbphones (parents)
What I did was, take my SIM card, and put it into one of the dumbphones. Went into ATT and had them add unlimited Data to that line at the $10 option. (And cancel the BB services since I wasn't using the phone anymore - told them I sold it on CL) Went home and returned the SIM into my BB and I was all set to go with unlimited Data. The only thing that didn't work with the BB was the push Email services...
If you go to your online account with ATT it will show you an image of the device you are using with service and although it showed my device as a BB at the time, (after returning the SIM to the BB) the $10 plan continued to work without any hitches.
Now that I have a phone that is unbranded with an IMEI # that ATT doesn't recognize, they don't have an image for my phone, so they have no way to detect that I am using a smartphone.
I have used the $10 plan with many devices: BB, Touch Pro, Nokia E71, etc and have never had any problems.

Yes that is the plan that I am referring to and yes the reps are full of crap. ATT wants to charge you more for having a 'smartphone' even though you use the exact same data, frequencies, and service as other users. There are many ways around this, but going into an AT&T store and trying to 'reason' with them is not one. I suggest the method I used with a dumbphone. Alternatively, you can do the same process online through account manager without having to deal with a live person.
Side question here. I'm thinking about giving the G2 to a friend on AT&T. The thing is that he doesn't want to pay for a data plan. Will AT&T force a data plan onto the line? Also un checking data enabled, will that stop all data over the cellular network so he doesnt get charged at all?

I don't think they can force a data plan as the phone is not being subsidized by ATT because of a contract.
In theory disabling data will stop all data but in reality he will probably still use a bit of it. Search the forums as I remember another user having the issue of zero data use.

I finally did the whole unlock, super CID thing using gfree and adb.
Just want to make that no one has found a way to get 3G speeds on the G2?
Or is EDGE my only choice? I understand the whole band thing as well.
No. From what I've gathered on the g2 being on at&t, its impossible as the radio hardware is different and will not pick up the 3g bands. Flashing a different radio to match up the bands won't work, either (it will possibly brick your phone, actually.)
Go with the NAM Desire Z from bell canada. Its your best bet.

GSM Nexus speed on AT&T (Austin, TX)

I don't know if this is a question or more of a poll...
I think I'm getting horrible 3G speeds here in Austin, TX. It also seems like I'm being capped. When I have full bars, speedtest always shows around a 3Mbps down and 1 Mbps up transfer speeds. I've tested this in many places around North Austin / Round Rock.
What speeds are others getting?
Could my sim card or data plan need tweaking from AT&T? I ask this because I was previously on a Galaxy Note with LTE and they had to switch me to a LTE plan at the time. Outside where I work, the LTE signal strength is very strong and I've gotten amazing speeds with the Note. But with the Nexus, I get the 3/1 speeds.
Any ideas?
What are your APN settings, also are you on the smartphone or medianet plan?

Thank you for helping me.
I'm on a smartphone plan. Which APN settings are you wanting? There are a lot!
I live in Bastrop, like 30 miles east of Austin, and am getting about 2.5-3 down and .4-1.2 up. I was pretty disappointed because I thought I had remembered pulling more on my Captivate(smart phone plan though), too bad it broke. I'm using the MediaNet plan on ATT with AndroidHD Revolution(4.1.1) and Franco r223.

If you're on the smartphone plan, I'm assuming you're using the "phone" apn? Also, you're aware that you can get unlimited hspa with the non smartphone plan formerly known as media net.
Who knows this could be purely speculation but let's say AT&T already has your imei number you could be automatically bumped to the same smartphone data plan if you attempt to use the dumb phone plan.
I am unsure how quick AT&T is figuring this stuff out. I had an AT&T GS2 and switched to a dumb flip phone then bought a GNex, took the sim card out of the dumb one and transplanted into the GNex and boom, unlimited data and texting for $30 a month.
I'm already on an unlimited smartphone plan. I chatted with AT&T support and there are currently no restrictions on my data plan. He also switch IMEI from the Note to the Nexus and moved me from a LTE plan to 3G plan. Data speeds remain the same.
I wonder if anyone with a GSM Nexus in Austin is able to get > 3Mbps...

You are on a SGS2 with HSPA+? Which city are you in?
Try testing with actual downloads instead of speed test sites. My speed test (I'm in northern Colorado) always tells me about 3Mb/s down 1Mb/s up too, but on actual downloads and manual tests, I hit 8-10 Mb/s even in kind of rural areas.
I'm in Indiana and get around 3-4mbit down and 1-1.5mbit up. The fastest ive seen once is 7mbit down.
Sent from my Galaxy Nexus using xda app-developers app
I remember with the captivate, the speeds would vary widely depending on which part of town I was in. But with the Nexus, it just seems very artificial to hit right around 3 down / 1 up every time. Almost like AT&T is capping it similar to what they did to the captivate. The modem AT&T put on the captivate was throttled for whatever reason but flashing an international modem removed it.

Yeah. I had to send my Gnex in for service. Only got to use it for 17 days
Harbor Springs Michigan
Sorry to bring back an old thread, but I am wondering on this myself. I bought my gnex from google play, got it and noticed that the data rates are pretty steady at around 2.5 - 3.5 max down, and .9 - 1.2 up. The gnex has a 21Mbit HSPA+ radio in it, so in theory it should accept whatever AT&T can push to it. However, I came from an Atrix 2, and can vouch for the fact that the Atrix 2 when using the PTA APN on HSPA+ (no LTE for about 200 miles where I'm at) will download consistently between 7 - 9 Mbit... Same server on speediest.net, same APN, same place, the signal is within 1dBm of each other.
Because I have found no base band that can change this, nor any APN setting I am starting to believe that if AT&T gets an IMEI of a phone that it doesnt recognize, they will throttle it.
Any one else have any insight? 3.5Mbit is plenty, but I'd like to get the same speeds as what I consider a lesser device.
If I could find a way to change the IMEI I'd test this theory.
^^^ Suprisingly, Its not att at all. Ask anyone on these forums, samsung has notoriously bad radios. Signal and cell strength just are not that great. And you can you can especially feel the difference coming from a motorola device. They have the strongest radios of all the major oems by far. No one even comes close.

How does AT&T identify your xperia z1 compact on their network? Their customer support is telling me it is an unknown device and won't work with mobile data. I can text and make phone calls, but mobile data doesn't work.
I just need to know what to tell them so mobile data will work, because switching to T-Mobile would mean no service in my area.
When you put your sim in did you download the settings? I did that and got my data to work.
On att end I always give them an IMEI off an att lte device so that I get the right data plan but switching to mobile share I don't worry about it anymore

oh, so giving them my D5503's IMEI was a mistake and I should have just left it with my old galaxy S3 IMEI? Well there goes some money wasted in activation fees.

An At&t employee here. You don't pay any activation fee for activating a customer owned device on the account. Also your previous imei is still on the notes so you can call back and tell them to change the imei back to what it was. Tell them the date and time when you changed the imei and that will help you get your s3 imei. My z1 compact works fine on the network and I have a moto X as my imei.
With all of my at&t branded phones I got lte everywhere but with this phone I get it in some places like at work but not at home. Or maybe the Z1 compact just isn't lying to me and the at&t branded phones are. Could be a possibility but no matter cause I'm getting 13 down on hspa+

Testing with speedtest.net by Ookla, my D5503 Xperia 1 Compact on AT&T in San Diego shows 6.7 Mbps down and 0.86 Mbps up. No LTE here.

Where (What Country) did you buy your Z1C from and can you check what firmware you are on.
I bought mine online from UK and it comes with Euro version firmware.

This is very encouraging. I'm looking to get Z1C to get off of contracts on AT&T and eventually move over to T-Mobile since their coverage in the suburbs has way improved over the years.
I have also received LTE and I live in Indiana!
I just bought mine and am coming from a Moto X. It should arrive soon. What should I do to ensure that LTE/HSPA+ works? I see that I should enter the APN settings but what do I do for the IMEI #?
I am on ATT too and thinking on buying a Z1 Compact; but also worried about LTE coverage in my area (Fort Myers, FL)
Does any one know if band 17 (700) is used here?
I would love to have a smaller but powerful phone like this. Now on Xperia ZL, which I like, but it is not waterproof and does not have a 20 MP camera.

Sprint and T-mobile merge agreement

http://www.gottabemobile.com/2014/06/04/sprint-and-t-mobile-agree-on-merger-terms/
lets hope it doesn't go through.
what are your guys/gals thoughts on it?
PS: if its in the wrong area or doesnt need to exist just move/delete it.
I don't know anything about the phone services but I do know that T-Mobile has made no attempt to lock me out of the hardware I have purchased. Does Sprint lock the bootloader?
Frank
This makes no sense as tmobile is on a role with their un carrier strategy. No sense at all.
DEMON GALAXY NO SOULS NOTED !!!!!
i dropped sprint it was horrid do not want anything to do with them period ! i left att for tmobile and have been very happy .. im hoping the FCC jumps in and stop this cluster **** from happening
For once I hope the FCC does the right thing and doesn't allow this to go through.

even if it does go through, there's a good chance John Legere runs the show
Obvious question- will they be CDMA or GSM after this goes through? Or both?
Sprint wants them for the LTE spectrum they have so it's not going to matter if it's CDMA or GsM

Then its going to be gsm since it would be for the LTE. Look at what happened when the mergered with metropcs. Honestly that is too much mergers.

I just left sprint for t-mobile last month it's hard to admit that I was with sprint for about 7 years then they went to crap on their network I truly hope that this merger doesn't happen. Is there any way us people can start a petition? do we even have a say in this type of matter? I will do anything to stay away from sprint!

I had sprint on the epic4gtouch and note 2, the speeds were horrid but the bootloaders were unlocked like tmobile. I dont want the merger to happen either because im sure prices will go up since its less competition, but cant do anything about it and hope john legere would still run things over on his side.

Bloomberg: John Legere likely to be CEO of combined Sprint/T-Mobile if deal goes ahead
To be honest screw Sprint but if john legere does become CEO then you're looking at a force aimed at destroying Verizon and att. John leger is a beast. He's the reason why Tmobile is Tmobile the way it is today. Unlimited data, no more contract, JUMP program. This guy is a beast. If it doesn't go through then sprint will be paying up $1billion to Tmobile. More money for towers and LTE spectrum

Personally I'm against this merger but these things run through my head...
1. Sprint is not buying out T-Mobile. Softbank is the company trying to do that. They just happen to own Sprint.
2. If this were to happen could it go down like how Cingular did with AT&T. Memory trip, Cingular bought out AT&T Wireless...and yet AT&T remained and Cingular dropped their name. Could this happen with T-Mobile. T-Mobile is the IT brand, Sprint is the sh!t brand.
2a. Notice who is talking about the Sprint CEO? Nobody.
3. T-Mobile will stay GSM. CDMA for all intent and purposes is dead. Even Verizon is using GSM.
4. With TMoUS in charge they could get access to areas that would be grandfathered in.
Again, I'm against the deal but these are things running through my mind.

Sprint has pretty much stopped working on their network vision rollout. My friend who works for Sprint said Sprint techs are jumping ship left and going to t-mo. I think this is going to happen, and it quite possibly is a good thing. For me I have one thing to say : as far as me, *grandfathered* Just will have better coverage, with Sprint's towers, and Legere at the helm. Hoorah!

Simultaneous Voice and Data?

Received my note 4 yesterday, noticed today while I was on a call that I could not connect to LTE data simultaneously as I was used to doing on my note 3. This led me to inquire why this was the case, after searching the web I found that to the best of my understanding that the new sprint phones are all coming with one chip to access a cell signal instead of two like my note 3. If I've misspoke about the reason my apologies but I believe thats what I understood. Now I'm wandering if I was to use google voice to make calls could I then access data as well? This leads to another question, my understanding is that Sprint customers can allow google voice to use there current mobile number as there google voice number. If anyone has done this I would like to know if there are concerns to have and can you opt out if you no longer want to use the service? Any suggestions are appreciated.
Wow...this sucks! I just tested mine and i cant use data while making a fcuking call. Wtf sprint

Like I said, I've never used Google voice for phone calls but that may be an option I'm just concerned about giving my phone number to google if I want to get it back.

you can always drop Google Voice from your number
Some are using hangouts. You can call and use WiFi for data if available, or you can do both call & data on WiFi.
For 95% its not an issue and Sprint is going VoIP in the near future and will be able to do both then.
The trade-off is better battery life with one antenna compared to having two.

So when I'm on 4g I won't be able to call someone using phone? Wtf, I can do that on my note 2...how the hell is this progress?
This is 100% Unsat!!!
I can't believe this has happened. I too need to know if this can be fixed by using Google Voice. You can keep your own number without giving it to GV, but this is completely a backward proposition.
U can only if you are on wifi or 4g while making call. Verizon and Sprint can not do data while on calls unless u are on 4g at the time or WiFi. Its the limitation of having CDMA devices. Att and tmobile doesnt have that issue
Hangouts essentially uses VoIP. Of course it will work. You're not actually making a cellular call with it.
All Sprint Spark LTE phones are incapable of using voice&data at the same time.

So the note 4 is a spark phone but the note 2 isn't?
New technology.. smh
I have the same problem with my LG G3. Cant surf the net while making calls. Its really a disappointment. Somehow Sprint needs to find a way to be able to have Spark and use data at the same dang time. My friend has the Note 4 as well and told me she could talk and use the net but I think she BS-n.

No Simo Voice/Data
With Sprink Spark, You can no longer have simo talk/text. It's a single signal. Instead of CDMA / GSM on LTE Devices. It is only allowing one. Now that isnt due to the phone. It's the towers and the tech they are using. I heard they are in the works to update that and there will eventually be a fix.
I work for Sprint.

Are you telling me a bunch of sprint user's didn't know that spark phone's wasn't capable of talking and surfing the web at the same time using the phone data network lmao? Seriously why don't you guy's look up info before purchasing a phone first lmao this has been known since the first spark phone which was what i think the lg g2 if I'm not mistaken but no wait it's sprint fault for taking the direction they choose to better their network and services lol.

Most sprint phones dont have that capability, but yes the note 2, 3, and gs4 and 3 do . I have had them all and all work when on 4g and of course WIFI. It has nothing to do with the limitations of the CDMA network, its the hardware that they put in them. (as well) yes it is easier to do over GSM and they usually have that feature. though This is something that we should have been let known and also should have been worked out before putting (or lack thereof) something like taking those antennas out in play before getting the network right. Most of us cant use spark anyway! lol so now its no spark and you cant be on the phone and get 4g either, on the newest phones, G3, S5, Note 4 ETC....
