[Q] Does anyone know what's going on with CM12.1 dev? - Galaxy Tab S Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

The CM12.1 thread was closed reportedly due to GPL non-compliance by the CM12.1 maintainer for klimtwifi, but no other explanation or news on future development was posted. Nightlies continue to build, but I'm concerned that there won't be any future development. If anyone knows what's going on, I'd love to hear it. thanks.

um... yeah, I don't have any problems with downloading the nightlies or checking the commitlog, I'm just wondering
1. if the developer is still working on CM12.1 for klimtwifi and
2. how we can report/discuss issues we come across.
I've got 7/1 on my T-700 right now and I notice that while standby battery life is excellent, the CPU seriously eats through the battery when playing games. I think I drained it from ~95% -> ~25% in <30mins of playing 'abyss attack' for eg. I suspect it's an issue with the CPU governor, hotplug, or the GPU governor, but there may also be a workaround I don't know about.

I'm using 7/14 right now and it's the best CM experience I've ever had on any device. My Motorola and LG phones always had issues, as well as my ex's Nexus. I'm curious though as to why the nightlies seem to have stopped at 7/14?
I hope we eventually get a "stable" version.

Stability

Hi, I was thinking of purchasing a LG Nitro. But before jumping the gun I wanted to ask hows the development coming along? Is CM9 stable enough. Such as HW acceleration, wifi, Bluetooth, etc.
I tried searching for answers but didn't come across any change logs on the ROM threads...

CM9 RC2 is definitely stable enough, everything works.
Nightly change logs are here: http://changelog.bbqdroid.org/#p930/cm9/next
Initially CM9 on our Nitro was rough, but that's to be expected from brand new ROMs. With the recent release of RC2 though, things are almost downright silky. You can still expect a glitch here and there, but there's usually a workaround.
CM10 is already in the works for Nitro (there's a preview version you can download and use), so there's definitely Dev love going on for the Nitro.

Thanks a lot! Very useful reply
sounds good, since I'm a current Atrix owner and although there is developer commitment (seriously some of the most committed devs I seen!) they are limited by the lack of official drivers. Making HW acceleration among other things impossible. I guess I'm tired of waiting on Motorola to come around and release them. Plus recently my Atrix has been acting a bit spoty with the WiFi (and it's not a software problem).
So its really good to hear the nitro is running smooth with the work from this developer community

[Q] No camera app? (SlimBean 4.2.1)

Hi there,
I just flashed this rom to my P936: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2116403
But there is no camera app in this ROM?
I've been looking on Google but I couldn't find what I was looking for.. and sincé I'm a noob with rooting and flashing I've no idea where to look..
Could someone help me?
Read the thread in the dev section.
The developer knows about the problem but hasn't had time to fix it yet due to personal issues. Hopefully he'll be able to soon.
I must've been blind.. anyway can you recommend me a good working rom for my P936? (EU)

Liquid Nitro (ICS) has good stability and battery, but the unattractive LG appearance tweaks.
HO!NO! CM9 has a bit less stability and battery, but has the nice themable AOSP interface from CM9.
CM10.1 Nightlies/miroslavCM10.1 - Bluetooth issues, battery life not great (i recommend a battery saver app), but otherwise great and stable enough for daily use.

Thanks for answering for me. I've been quite abnormally busy the past few weeks and it's not looking any better. I have full intentions of getting around to working on it I just have a little too much on my plate at the moment.

[Q] Roms for the GPad G 8.3 GPE (510)

Is anybody working on a custom ROM for the 510 yet? Kind of not necessary given there's no bloat and xposed works well. That being said, part of the reason I wanted to root my tablet is to play with different Roms/kernels.
I will say that mine is lightening fast, was easy to root using Linux, and has NO problems with the screen.
Any Update?

Why are you wanting a custom ROM? I ask because these days you can do many of the same things that were afforded by custom ROMs on the stock ROM using Xposed Framework modules, in particular GravityBox. There are very few options that I've seen in CM, AOKP, etc., that you can't do with those ROMs installed, and you get the benefits of the stock ROM, particularly with GPE.
Anyone who has used both a GPE and a rooted V500 running any AOSP ROM: is there any difference is responsiveness and speed at opening web pages?

Yeah, that's been annoying. Think I have it fixed on latest kernel. At least my test run is working. It used to be forever waiting. Will upload sleekai5.1 soon. I'll check to see if XDA has their uploads fixed yet. Don't really like using github for that.
Sleekmason,
Really love the kernal mods. waiting for your next release with great anticipation.

So you are confirming that the V510 is more responsive and opens web pages faster than the V500?

More responsive? Yeah, probably. Don't know about Roms. I scored 27474 on antutu for whatever that's worth. That's not with init.d set to lower CPU. Another user posted similar with madhi and the dyn kernel.
Web pages? You tell me.

Well, I can't tell you.... at least not yet. I'm comtemplating buying a V510 and selling my V500. If someone with experience on both could post feedback.
And thanks for your info.

I posted my latest kernel a few hours ago. Would love somebody to confirm better internet load times. If anybody has downloaded sleekai5.1, tell me if your connection seems better!
If you want a custom ROM, why did you spend too much money on the GPE?

Because it sounds like fun. I later began tweaking the kernel instead, and adding other things like xposed. This thread is old. I wrote this when I first got the device and was looking for something different to work on. Because I wanted a clean device from which to work.
Other GPE devices can run custom Roms like their non gpe counterparts. This is the only device I'm aware of that actually has issues just loading any ROM you like. It's a shame.

Now I can tell you. The V510 definately opens apps and web pages faster than a V500 (running CM11). Thanks for convincing me to buy one. Selling my V500.

The issue is no one made a device tree yet for the v510. I have part of the device tree going thanks to @Drgravy and will be finishing it up when I can find the time.
Maybe @sleekmason can help with kernel

Looking for new ROM?

Hello there. I'm using FXP CM10 since May 2013. I want to try something new, but as I read all ROMs seem buggy and messy. Is there anything 100% complete and working(like the CM10), that is Android 4.3 or 4.4? Recommend me a ROM please. I mean totally bug-less, I can't afford to tolerate reboots or battery drains.
Thanks!

The least buggy build is 4.2.2 CM by RaymanFX. I suggest you don't try 4.4/4.3 as you'll be very disappointed.
That's it for almost a year? Very disappointing development for XS

Quite a judgmental statement. There aren't many developers left for the XS. It's a miracle that RaymanFX has spent countless hours on his own on this device. If you're not happy, you should get a new phone or learn to develop ROM's yourself.
Probably a new device. Thanks for quick info!
I've been using several betas of CM11, Carbon ROM and now Paranoid Android 4.2/4.3 and i have to say PA works pretty well, a lot more stable than the first two. Except for screenshots and fuzzy images in recents bar I haven't encountered any problems so far in the newest beta 2 of Paranoid Android 4.3. It's fast, stable and battery life is good. deedwar said hes working on the screenshot thing if rayman doesn't beat him to it. Oh, and the xperia S has official legacy support including OTA updates. I can't say that its working 100% because all 4.4 roms lack things like hdmi (I never even used that once) and some other stuff, but for everyday use its ok. there's no harm in trying it out.

Raviole or just Raven?
@ctfrommn
Good Lord - aren't you the developer of Velocity ROM - the best ROM for my good old Nexus 6 (Shamu)?
Really a long time ago! I helped with the German translation at the time. Then my shamu broke and I switched to the fish "taiman" (Pixel 2XL). Now I'm also flying around with the "raven" (Pixel 6Pro)...
So if that's really you, then I'll flash your kernel immediately!

Im told it works on Oriole as well.
Yes, good to see you again....feel free to hit me up in my TG group.
I am testing out your latest Raven release right now. Currently, I am quite pleased with what I am seeing. But, of course, the next two days will give me a few full runs of testing.
I currently have my mobile settings limited to LTE only, as 5G eats my battery like an Italian eats their pasta (really darn fast) - or maybe that's just me, haha. So, tomorrow will be a test whilst still limited to LTE. But the following day will be similar but with no mobile network type restrictions.
At the moment, my phone is running just as fast while staying super cool - and I am not sure if this is due to the UV or the other performance/scheduler changes (or both, of course).
So needless to say, I have high hopes. Thank you for this.
I just had YouTube running at 100% brightness on wifi, I know...I know...not 5G yeah yeah...but I lost 12 percent in 2 hours watching Transformers anddd...the temp shows for itself. I was testing it just laying on my floor trying to wear out the battery. Usually the battery is hot. I am blownnnnn awayyy. This kernel has changed my interest in this phone from absolutely hating it to kinda starting to enjoy it. My girlfriend aas equally blown away as my phone used to die quickly and always overheat.
v13.1 is up and is tested on August and September stable releases. I dont have this device and dont flash betas so I wouldnt recommend using this on the new beta.
Running on Android Beta, working super nice. low temps smooth as butter no funny business and a good improvement to battery life, not noticed any issues as of yet! Kudos @ctfrommn its superb!

I don't recommend flashing this on the beta. At least from my own experience. I tried it to see how it will run, but it seems that it causes a lot of freezing and random hangs. For me, its unusable on QPR1. I had to reflash stock boot

Not experienced this so far, if you run the A13.1 Kernel on beta then yes you would absolutely run into issues, if you run the beta kernel for the beta I can assure you there will be no issues what so ever. You can access the QPR1 Kernel via the telegram group. So far many of us on QPR1 with the QPR1 Beta Kernel haven't experienced a single hitch yet and I'm doing my best to try and break it to see what goes wrong but so far nothing but a lovely experience. My bad I should have elaborated what I am running to be more clear.

Its a pleasant surprise! I didn't intend on going into beta until I saw the reviews from the others and I had to give it a go, honestly couldn't be happier I did!
Absolutely ridiculous battery life.
I'd usually get 2.5 hours SOT from 100-50.
This Kernel has made the battery life outstanding. Thank you so much.
