I just cant get GPS lock on my phone , I've changed ROMs , used Faster GPS to edit gps.config file to my location , used GPS toolbox for AGPS data but the issue did not resolve.
i found a flashable zip containing AGPS data from here - http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2709759 , now i get GPS lock but in navigation the position just locks from where i start navigation and it refuses to move in the map even though i am moving. It just stays there at starting position.
tried it 2-3 times with different ROMs but no luck.
Is there anything else I can do?
Please help.

Randomly when I update QuickGPS I get an error:
"Data Activation Failed:
Location setting must be on so that the latest satellite data can be used to speed up GPS positioning"
I'm on a T-Mobile USA Touch Pro 2.
If I restart my device, I can update QuickGPS without error. But once I get this error, I always do until I restart my device. Its like the "location setting" just dissapeared. Anyone have a similar issue or know of a fix?
I'm having same problem.
I've try to update the QuickGPS and it tells me I need to set location to on but I can not find it anywhere. It suppose to be at Start, Settings, Phone, Services then I should be able to see locations but I don't see it.
It's missing and I hate to call customer's services and run into someone who reads out of manuals.
Any takers?
TIA.
Anyone have any ideas?
same prob
I see that my location is set to on, but wont update regardless of soft reset. just updated to europe wwe 6.5 from htc site. didnt have prob with 6.1 stock from tmo usa
I have the same problem with the stock rom from sprint. it will say i need to turn on location setting, but when i look, it's already on. also, if i try to turn off location setting, it stays on. when i look again, after selecting off, ok, etc., the location setting says on again. soft reset is the only thing that fixes it.
after soft reset, i quickgps, then run garmin and it works fine. after i turn off garmin and don't use it for awhile, then i can't get a fix and i get the location setting error when trying to run quickgps.
any ideas?
I'm using HTC Topaz with official WM6.5. I've found that this problem happens after installing WM6VoIP.cab (it's necessary for enabling SIP). Btw not only QuickGPS fails with update, GPS completely stops working.
Removing of "Sleuth's WM6VoIP" through "Add\remove programs:" doesn't work - only Hard reset helps.
My wifi cant detect any wifi around and i cant turn it on, mac address didn't appeared on it, my router is already activated a I tried several solution but still no luck ...
i tried to update my radio and rom still no effect ..
1. Go to comm manager
2. Hit WiFI and the icon doesn't start
3. No animation is going on supposed to be it has an icon to animate but i didnt see anything..
any possible solution ?
thanks
I solved the same problem, helped to open the phone housing
you mean that you open you disassembled and assembled it again ?
I do not know how it happened but after the composition was all OK
Bada 2.0 S8500 GPS location Problem after Upgrade 2.0
Dear Friends,
i am facing problem in Location Service/GPS system my Bada S8500 after upgrade Bada 2.0. It's not working.
Please any one solve my problem...
If you just upgraded from bada 1.x to bada 2.0 and and now have problem with Navigation (Route 66), do this simple setting:
1. Setting => Location =>Location service (set it to on; i.e. green colour).
2. Back to main menu, launch "Navigation" (allow it to run for few seconds)
3. Then click on "More" (on Navigation menu) => Contents (download contents for Navigation, to sync your license; download maps; and download any other contents you have purchased e.g safety camera, etc).
4. That's all.
NB: In case your problem is not with Navigation (Route 66), please do well to explain in details what problem you are facing.

Normally when you install any location/GPS app manually, you need to also activate/include this app in the location service manually. Otherwise you will always receive the said error of 'Location service is disabled'
For Example, I installed the GPS Status app.
When I tried to start the GPS, it displayed error of 'Location service is disabled'.
Yes, even if I have enabled location service in my phone, but I have not enabled it for GPS Status app.
To solved this, I go to Setting => Location => Location service (already set to ON, if not, turn it ON),
then on same page/menu, scroll down to bottom of page where you will find your installed location/GPS app (in this example, GPS Status), and turn it ON.
Now go back and launch your location/GPS app, and it will no longer display the error. It will now work.

Hello,
i try many solutions to fix GPS in my I927 (orginal AT&T ICS rom): first GPS Doctor from Google Play store (no results ), then i root my phone i try change gps.conf in etc folder. I try many gps.conf configuration - still no effect (GPS fix 4-5 minutes). Finally i got idea... My Wife hat Samsung Galaxy S Advance from polish distribution with polish clear JB ROM (updated by Samsung kies). I try copy with my Wife's phone files AGPS_CA.pam, GPS.conf and SIRFGPS.conf to my phone....
and it worked :victory: Now i catch GPS fix in 7 sec.
SOLUTION STEP BY STEP:
1.You need rotted I927 phone (soluition in this thread)
2. copy from my PC files AGPS_CA.PAM, GPS.CONF and SIRFGPS.CONF (files below) via Bluetooth to my Phone
3. i copy with Root Browser from Google Play (may be any Root Explorer) files AGPS_CA.PAM, GPS.CONF and SIRFGPS.CONF system/etc folder (overwrite -> yes)
4. i turn on GPS Doctor (I bought this earlier) click "Manual Fix Option", then "advanced operation" and i cleaned all the items one by one (Clear Almanac Data, clear Ephemeris Data ....)
5. I turn off my phone (no reset - turn off) and go outside my house to place in which there is an unobstructed view of the sky
6. I turn on my phone and run GPS Checker from Google Play (i downloada this earlier) and wait for FIX (this take 149 sec.)
7. tur off and turn on GPS Checker and now i catch Fix in 7 sec. :highfive: i turn on Google Navigation and i catch fix
also in a few seconds.
I think that SIRFGPS.CONF is very important for the proper functioning of the GPS.In my opinion GPS.CONF does not play a big role here (as You see in my files ntp server is still set to north america)
I hope you GPS work now properly.
greetings.
P.S. Sorry for my english

LOL
Anyway, good steps, I may have to look into SIRFGPS.conf as I'm also having problems with GPS.
Ja uzywam fastergps i rowniez szybko sie laczy.
Sent from my SGH-I927 using xda app-developers app
However, the correct settings NTP help ...
I decide to try my device in the field.
I turn on GPS .... and got FIX (in gps checker) after 106 seconds.
Also i change i GPS.CONF ntp server to polish and put GPS.CONF in to system/etc folder and repeat steps 4 -6
4. i turn on GPS Doctor (I bought this earlier) click "Manual Fix Option", then "advanced operation" and i cleaned all the items one by one (Clear Almanac Data, clear Ephemeris Data ....)
5. I turn off my phone (no reset - turn off) and go outside my house to place in which there is an unobstructed view of the sky
6. I turn on my phone and run GPS Checker from Google Play ... and wait for FIX...

First FIX take 4-5 minutes, but now i catch GPS Fix in 15-30 sec. i try this in random places in my City (distant from each other by about 5 km).
Now i have visible 6 - 11 satelites and fix catch 4-7 satelites.
i think now its all good.
I changed the gps.conf file in the package for the Polish ntp settings. But anyone can edit in GPS.CONF the ntp for your country
LIst of NTP servers You can find in official NTP POLL PROJECT
This solution works for ICS ? You wrote that you took sirfgps file from JB phone.
Your sirfgps:
Code:
PROJECT=SAMSUNG_STE
[B]UART_DRIVER=/dev/ttyAMA1[/B]
RESET_GPIO=/sys/class/sec/gps/GPS_nRST/value
ONOFF_GPIO=/sys/class/sec/gps/GPS_ON_OFF/value
JB 4.2.2 sirfgps:
Code:
PROJECT=SAMSUNG_TEGRA
[B]UART_DRIVER=/dev/ttyHS0[/B]
RESET_GPIO=/sys/devices/virtual/sec/gps/GPS_nRST/value
ONOFF_GPIO=/sys/devices/virtual/sec/gps/GPS_PWR_EN/value

Hi,
some time ago i turn on GPs in my I927, nad have no response. GSP not turn on.
I realized that it was caused paths to folders. My settings were wrong:
UART_DRIVER=/dev/ttyAMA1[/B]
RESET_GPIO=/sys/class/sec/gps/GPS_nRST/value
ONOFF_GPIO=/sys/class/sec/gps/GPS_ON_OFF/value
Click to expand...

I changed the settings in the original file sirfgps.conf from I927 to the same as in S Advance, but I left the original path:
PROJECT=SAMSUNG_TEGRA_ATT
UART_DRIVER=/dev/ttyHS0
RESET_GPIO=/sys/devices/virtual/sec/gps/GPS_nRST/value
ONOFF_GPIO=/sys/devices/virtual/sec/gps/GPS_PWR_EN/value
Click to expand...

Now GPS work fine, catch FIX ~15 sec. but always before i use GPs i restart first phone. I think that sometimeswhen i use Task Killer, some GPS process is off.. Anyway reset phone, start gps and this is OK.
I change file to download to new with rigth settings.
greetings
Hi!
I've made a post in the Asus forum, with no luck and I found this page where you seem more technical :
Two days ago I downloaded the Android MM 6.0 update from the Asus Homepage downloading the version WW-4.21.40.144 , since I live in Brazil and the phone was bought here. I followed all the steps one by one till it got updated.
The problem is, since then my GPS is not working (Waze, Googlemaps ans several apps).
I tryed:
1. Giving all permissions of location to the apps
2. Puting the settings in High Accuracy
3. Restarting the phone several times.
4. Switch on and off Airplane mode and 2G 3G ands 4G (I read sometimes its interference from that)
5. Waiting almost an hour with the phone outside (sunny day) to see if it detects the satellites.
6. Every app inthe appstore that promise GPS Fixing (reseting, A-GPS and all kind of tests. Funny thing, the sensor IS working acording to those apps.
7. Factory Reset
8. Factory Reset and Erase Cache from the bootmenu. (as indicated in the Asus Forum)
9. Downgraded to Lolipop again. WW-52.20.40.196
10. Again every app to reset the GPS.
Nothing worked.
To my surprise, now I have Lolipop and no GPS. So back to basics but, worst.
The Asus forum told me to Update to the latest version, which I did:
1. Updated my phone with the latest MM version. 4.21.40.223.
2. Put the location options in "High Accuracy" and permissions needed for the apps.
3. As the old software was installed after that, I tried Waze. No GPS Signal was found.
4. Did a factory reset.
5. Put the location options in "High Accuracy" and permissions needed for the apps
6. Installed the apps GPS Toolbox and Waze again, the both can't find a GPS signal. I left the phone outside for 10 minutes.
7. Tried to install the version UL-Z00A-WW-2.20.40.198-user by bootloader, but it says it cannot update to an older version, which sounds about right. (I had to try)
What else can I do? I don't mind going back to Lolipop, but when I did GPS didn't work.
Is there any chance the new Update wrote something apart from software in the chipset that cannot be undone?
Help please, I really need the GPS!
Phone not rooted.
Thanks!
Juan
After long hours of searching, reading and trying I got it fix. How?
0. Have a full charged battery or have your phone plugged to the wall (except for the USB stuff on step number 2, obviously)
0.1. Make backups of all the info in the phone, because everything is going to be erased.
1. Download the version WW-52.20.40.196 from Asus website.(unless you need the other like CN, JK, etc, see Asus site to be sure)
2. Copy it to the internal storage of your phone in the root of it (not in any folder), via USB.
3. Get to the boot loader (Turn off phone and once is off, push the power button with the Up volume one until it vibrates 2 times. Release only the power button until the menu appears) - Search the forum for more details.
4. Select "Recovery Boot" with the volume buttons and press the power button to confirm.
The next steps are all in the Recovery Menu (once it finishes every step it goes back to the original menu, no alerts, sounds or nothing. So check every now and then)
5. Make a Wipe/factory reset, and wait, it takes some time. (use the volume buttons and press the power button to confirm)
6. Make a Wipe of the cache. (use the volume buttons and press the power button to confirm)
7. Install update from Internal storage selecting the name of file you copied on step number 2 (use the volume buttons and press the power button to confirm). It will take a while.
8. Reboot the system (use the volume buttons and press the power button to confirm)
It will restart with the phone in the Lolipop version and the GPS working fine. Even after the Lolipop updates.
Marshmallow update has a bug, that at least with my phone the GPS doesn't work. Tried reinstalling marshmallow latest version after the GPS got fix, just to prove the point, and in fact, it stopped working again.
Then I did all the steps above again and went back to normal again.
I STRONGLY RECOMMEND NOT TO UPDATE TO MARSHMALLOW WITH THE ACTUAL FIRMWARE VERSIONS AVAILABLE.
I also had this problem with Marshmallow ROM, as the GPS is not working in terms of unable to locate any signal from satellites.
However, I also solved the problem with a method sounds very silly.
I turn on my GPS overnight using an application called GPS Status.
The night I turn it on, it was locating 0 satellite (it will write 0/0 SAT). However in the morning, I found that the GPS is now working, locking on 8 out of 24 discovered satellite (it wrote 8/24 SAT).
Now my GPS is working seamlessly.
Thanks! I will try it next weekend. I need my phone this week. Hahaha
I ll post when I do so.
Do you know other similar cases of people who did that and worked?
The thing is, now I have Lollipop again an I noticed how slow the system is running with applications. I d love to have the update, but not sacrificing the GPS
I decided I won't make the test because it doesn't justify the risk and time.
I'll wait for a newer update or just stay with Lollipop.
Just to let you guys know in case someone was waiting for this
I downloaded GPS Status as suggested by SleepingAran and ran it once. Now my Waze is working seamlessly. Thanks!
There's another simple solution that works:
Follow exact steps:
1. Turn on location and set high accuracy mode
2. Open google maps
3. Move your phone several times in the shape of 8 (8-10 times should be enough)
4. Close google maps and clear it from recents screen
5. Start google maps again. Profit
