Hi,
I have a Bell Samsung Galaxy S3 rooted as per the thread instructions, and a copy of CWN 5.5.0.4 (All Variants) installed as well. I want to start trying out the JB Roms (Namely, the JellyBro one available for the phone) and I read in the thread that I needed the latest version of CWM Installed. I'm not sure which one will work if I flashed it to my phone correctly, so I need to know which one I can flash for my phone. Can I get it rom the CWM site (Says AT&T S3 is up to 6.0.1.2) but is the AT&T version the one I need for sure? I also tried via ROM Manager, it doesn't list my model phone for some reason.
Thanks in advance.

I used something like 5.8 and then tried TWRP. I only use TWRP, now. I got the info from TonyStark's att directory thread or maybe the ATT Ultimatum rom thread. Either will work. I've got an ATT but everything I've read says the Bell and ATT model are the same.

Thanks for the help. I used CWM 6.0.1.2 for ATT and it flashed perfectly! Now, i'm just trying to choose what ROM to go with, and if I have to install a KERNEL for it or not.
Thanks again.
Hey guy
I was just wondering if people are having issues with running games such as The Simpsons: Tapped Out, and other apps like Vine while running the latest nightly builds for the S3 i747? I had an S2 that was running CM10.1 and none of those apps worked.
Secondly, I recently bricked my old S2 while flashing something on it so I'm a bit wary of doing it on my S3 so I just want to clarify some things.
1) After I root the phone, I can just download ROM Manager and use that to install CWM, correct?
2) Then all I do is download the latest CM10.1 nightly build w/ gApps and flash both of them through CWM? Can I backup the stock Samsung ROM that I have on it now and restore it if I ever need it?
3) Which CWM file do I download exactly? I have a Telus SGH-I747M, and there are no downloads listed for that carrier. Do I just choose the AT&T version (Samsung Galaxy S3 (AT&T))? Why are there different versions for Sprint, Verizon, T-Mobile, US Cellular, etc? What are the differences and what do I choose for a Canadian Telus S3?
4) I am on Bell in Canada...do I have to be careful about which baseband gets flashed? I heard Rogers and AT&T were different from reading the sticky at the top of this forum.
Thanks,
Elliott

I can not really help for games... because I do not use any games on my device.
1) yes
2) Yes for the installation and yes for the backup. Do a backup in CWM before installing everything. If you need to go back, the backup will be useful. But don't worry if you don't have it, stock rom files are still available elsewhere... but it's easier to work with a backup.
3) except for modems and bootloader file, always download for the d2att device (Galaxy SIII for AT&T). Even for the recovery. I'm using TWRP for the recovery... and they have a version for the d2can (what you have)... but this recovery does not work with most d2att roms. Go with d2att dans you will be fine.
4)see my previous message... and if you upgraded to the latest Samsung ROM available (android 4.1.2), you already have the latest baseband and bootloader... but if you want a more recent bootloader and/or modem, check this thread. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1831898
Again, do not install a modem/bootloader for an AT&T device... it won't work... make sure you take one for the I747M.
with CM, or most custom rom, it does not include a baseband (modem) or bootloader... so you are fine flashing them even if they are made for the d2att. I747 and I747M are using the same hardware and software except for the modem and boodloader
Thanks for the help.
As for rooting, I noticed that using CF-Root, there are two possible download files:
SGH-I747: CF-Auto-Root-d2att-d2uc-samsungsghi747.zip
SGH-I747M: CF-Auto-Root-d2can-d2vl-sghi747m.zip
I'm guessing in this case it is RIGHT to choose the d2can version?
Anyone else have any response to this/regarding my games question?

yes chose the d2can version.
I do not remember exactly what I did to first root my device... it was a long time ago.
I remember that I used mobile odin to flash a new rom...
Thanks. What about this method: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XoEVDgjTTdg
Is a Telus SGS3 supported by that method?
And one of my friends who has done the same thing installing CM10.1 on his SGS3 told me that I need to modify the build prop after installing to say d2can instead of dtatt, is that still true now? I don't know how long ago he did it.
I've been looking all over and there only seems to be unofficial cm roms for the Sprint variant of the s4 mini. Where's PA or Slim for this model? xda seems inundated with roms for the gt variants of the s4 mini but sph has very little. Anyone know why that is?
I havent found much but im a noob. I have the same phone how did you happen to root and did you install a recovery? Oh also are you on KitKat?
I used Kongo root. It was very easy to root. I'm on the unofficial cm12.1 ROM. Is great but it doesn't have pie controls which is something I got used to when I was using liquidsmooth ROM on my last phone and really liked. Its nice to have android L though and everything runs very smoothly.
Wow no way! Do you know where I could get a recovery and a stable cm rom to flash to my sprint l520? Also do you mean kingo root? Oh also should I update to 4.4.2 before trying to root?Thank you!
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2669991
I don't know if you need to update or not. I doubt you would need to but don't take my word for it.
Doesn't it say lte and SMS arent work on that rom?
Also was your phone on 4.4.2 when you did it?
Did you use kingoroot or kingroot?
Do you know how I flash the recovery?
they're working fine for me. Yeah, I believe so. Kingoroot. I got a microsd card from walmart and put the recovery and I think I put the flashr apk on it if I remember correctly and flashed it through that on the rom that I had that was broken (the haptic feedback buttons weren't working and it was meant for the gsm model so it couldn't connect to mobile or wifi and it had a whole host of other issues but it was capable of installing apps on my sd card). Then I went into recovery and flashed the sph-l520 rom and everything's been good with it so far.
You used a flash app like flashify from the rom to flash the recovery? Cool
Hey all. I am fairly inexperienced when it comes to rooting, though I have done a few succesfully in the past. I currently have the newest version of TWRP installed on my Samsung I747M. The I747M I have is not from one of the major carriers, but as far as I am aware, the phone is factory network unlocked. Carrier is GCI, in Alaska.
I currently have a 4.4.2 Touchwiz Rom installed and started having problems after I attempted to flash the ROM Dandroid, which is 4.3 (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2121506). I had created a backup using TWRP before flashing the ROM and reverted back once I noticed the problem.
The main issue I am experiencing at this time is the Baseband Version, IMEI, and other information related to the modem is showing "Unknown" and features such as wifi will not toggle on.
I had also attempted to flash the most current version of the modem that I was able to find thru Odin. Odin showed the flash as successful. The version I flashed to the phone was I747MUMUEND3: modem_CWM_I747MUMUEND3.zip - 18.80 MB - April 3rd, 2014 (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1831898)
At this point, I can still get into recovery, download modem and I am able to boot up the phone and access most all functions. The next step I was going to try was going to be to flash back to stock firmware from sammobile's website (Was using to use the Roger's version of 4.4.2), though I don't want to cause more issues than I can handle or resolve thru software.
Any advice on how to proceed would be greatly appreciated or even just how to get the modem/wifi features functional again would be helpful. I'm just as happy staying on my current ROM at this point if I can get the phone fully functional again.
It's possible that the rom is not compatible with the kk modem and bootloader.
Flash cm12.1 to see if your imei comes back.

Forgot to mention, this is something I did try. I attempted to flash Cyanogen Mod 12.1 (Download: cm-12.1-20151017-NIGHTLY-d2att.zip (286.76 MB) ) and most recent nightly build & the most recent stable release (CM11) (Download: cm-11-20140210-SNAPSHOT-M3-d2att.zip (194.37 MB) ). When flashing these, I transferred the downloaded ZIP file to the internal storage of the phone in the root directory and attempted to run an install from TWRP. Both installs failed.
Since the phone is an i747m, I recommend flashing back to stock using Odin 3.07 and stock ROM file from here: http://www.sammobile.com/firmwares/database/SGH-I747M/
The i747m versions are interchangeable between Rogers, Telus, and Bell.
After flashing back to stock, install TWRP using Odin 3007 from here: https://dl.twrp.me/d2att/twrp-2.8.7.0-d2att.img.tar
Create a nandroid backup using TWRP and then try to flash a custom ROM again.

I'll give that a shot when I get home. Stock firmware was one of my next thoughts. I have it downloading at the measly 15 Kbps offered for free from sammobile so hopefully should be done by the time I get home & update this thread with any progress.
Another possibility is a custom kernel, if you are wishing to stay with TouchWiz and not wanting to upgrade your bootloader and modem past 4.3.
Some of the 4.4.2 TW roms will run on 4.3 bootloader and modems using one of ibuddler's kernels or ktoonsez's TW kernel. This was discussed most in the Likewise ROM thread and links to the various versions of ibuddler's kernel may be found there. It may have also been discussed in TMS3KK thread. The ktoonsez kernel can be found in its own thread.
But, you may really want to consider a newer ROM in order to change to something with the stagefright fixes. I think any of these may require the latest 4.4.2 bootloader and modem. (What say you @audit13?)

I'm not opposed to any of this. Mostly just trying to slim down this phone to the basics as much as I can and am quite open to any recommendations. Main thing I want to maximize is battery life & simplicity since this is for my wife and those are her major wants in a phone. I figure any kind of ROM that just covers the basics should cover my bases & would prefer one with a darker/black skin to maximize battery life w/ the OLED screen. I am in the process of flashing to the Roger's stock ROM as I type this w/ my fingers crossed.
Just to add, no over clocking or anything of that nature is desired. If I remember correctly I ended up putting the ktoonsez kernel on one of my handsets, either this Galaxy S3 or my Galaxy S5, though I can't recall which since it was so long ago.
Alright! So progress! Wifi, Baseband version, IMEI and all other missing information restored & now works w/ stock rom flash. In process of reflashing TWRP now.
Let us know what happens.
Still all good with TWRP installed. Have not flashed back on a custom ROM yet. After reviewing some of the above recommendations, I am kind of liking the looks & features of TMS3KK (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2725750) and feel it would suit my needs.
I factory reset, cleared cache, and cleared Dalvik thru TWRP & then made a back up. Prior to this, I confirmed everything was still working normally w/ phone fully loaded after TWRP was installed.
One of the things mentioned on the installation instructions for that ROM is the following:
---
Do not mix and match 4.3 firmware (bootloaders/modem) with the new 4.4.2 ones. You will hard brick and I warned you. This works the same as any 4.3 or ND8port ROM with 4.3 firmware and it can use the new 4.4.2 ones also.
Link to recovery flashable i747 and i747M 4.4.2 bootloader and modem packages: http://forum.xda-developers.com/gala...hable-t2856914
---
How would I go about confirming my current bootloader/modem versions to make sure they are both 4.4.2 before flashing this ROM? At the link provided, those files/links to the files were removed because they were causing some bricked devices per a note at the top of that thread. Here's a link to the thread I am referencing since the above link looks to be broken. (http://forum.xda-developers.com/gal...mware-ne4-ne6-nf2-recovery-flashable-t2856914)
If you flashed the latest stock rom, you are running the latest 4.4.2 bootoader and modem.
You can download and run the Samsung phone info app from the play store to confirm this.
You should be good to flash any d2lte or d2att rom.
I recommend not flashing any modem or bootoader from this point forward unless the bootoader and modem are newer than the currently installed botloader and modem. Also, the botloader and modem must be matched to each other.

Thank you so much for the help and information. I guess I never realized that the bootloader & modem were installed w/ the stock rom as I always have flashed those separately through Odin when needed. Definitely good information to have and not easy information to find. I have successfully got my custom ROM on there and am now fine-tuning it for the wife.

Glad to hear the phone is running well.
I've heard it said "Happy wife, Happy life."
So currently i hate stock due to the battery life on 4.4.2 and was wondering what custom roms are available for an i747m d2can that has good battery life, stable, and same/better speed/performance than stock.
ps, if there isnt a d2can version. What is compatible with d2can. also, what custom recovery would you prefer (clockworkmod, twrp etc.)
All the CM/AOSP roms feel like an upgrade from stock on this phone. Slim, OctOs, and CM were my favorites. If you want stable stick to the lollipop roms. They're still smoothing out the rough spots on marshmallow.
d2att roms work fine on d2can.
Use TWRP for recovery, the others aren't actively being developed any longer. If for some reason TWRP doesn't work for you (happens to a few people) then try Philz (CWM based).

Do d2lte roms work fine on a d2can (people say d2lte covers the north in one umbrella) and is it true that u need to edit some files in android from d2can to d2att so a rom can be able to install and not fail?
What is AOSP anyways?

D2lte is fine too. Merged builds came and went so fast I almost forgot.
I've heard some people mention editing asserts to get d2att roms to flash on an i747m. I've heard others say they use d2att twrp on d2can so they don't have to mess with that. I had an i747 so I can't exactly vouch for either. I do know d2att and d2can are interchangeable.
Just make sure to stay away from i9300 stuff; that s3 is a totally different phone.
Oh and aosp = android open source project. Android straight from Google like on a nexus. I think slim and broken are the only roms for d2att using an aosp base. Everything else I can think of uses cm.

I'm on d2can i747m (Rogers is my carrier) and d2att ROMS work just fine. If you are already on up to date stock via carrier OTA, you'll want to grab ODIN and the proper USB drivers and then search for instructions on the root process for your phone (instructions which include replacing recovery w/ a recent version of TWRP would be ideal).
A few words of advice:
- run a TWRP nandroid backup before you attempt any ROMs
- only flash ROMS labelled to work with d2can/d2att hardware, i747m/i747, or unified d2lte. Follow the ROM maintainers instructions regarding installation and updates.
- Do not attempt to install any ROMs which are not clearly labeled or any ROMS that you are unsure of as it will most likely end up in trouble.
- avoid blindly flashing new bootloaders / modem unless you have a very good reason to. If that reason should arise, please make sure you have a good read through some of the threads regarding this topic. Not following the proper procedures will most definitely result in bricking your device.
Follow the above and you will have a great time enjoying your phone all over again! Keep hanging around these parts and reading and you'll gain a lot of knowledge and you'll be comfortable with the process in no time!
I'm currently running the latest OctOS weekly M release and it has been pretty darn rock solid for me.
Cheers!

No different. d2lte was a brief experiment to try not having carrier specific builds. It replaced d2att for a while on KitKat. Merged builds were abandoned as of cm 12, so it must have been more trouble than it was worth.

After doing some googling, I cant seem to find which specific things in build.prop to change from d2can to d2att. 2 out of the 3 I saw ONLY say d2can and those are ro.build.product and ro.product.device. the other 1 that says more than just d2can is ro.build.fingerprint. im not sure if i need to change all 3 of the ones i saw or just the 2 that only say d2can and not anything else.

Search the twrp thread. You'll find plenty of people who say they're running d2att twrp on i747m. If you're unsure just install d2can twrp. The main reason i747m owners flash d2att twrp is so they don't have to mess with update scripts in roms.
But I just checked oct-os for example and its updater script will flash on d2att, d2lte, d2can, or d2tmo, so it doesn't matter if you have a d2can or d2att recovery.
D2att and d2can roms and recovery are interchangeable. Just never mix bootloaders and modems or flash roms for another phone. And never try to downgrade a bootloader on this phone.
Even if you mess up your system flashing a rom, recovery and download mode are still available as long as the ROM is made for your phone. Typically the worst thing that happens is a boot loop, or wifi or phone functions just won't work. Stay away from i9300 roms or roms made for other phones. Flashing those can hard brick this phone.

You'll only find d2att oct-os but it's update script will let it flash fine on d2can or d2tmo too.
As a general rule leave bootloaders and modems alone. If it's working don't mess with it, but if you find you're out of date and a ROM won't work right you can download i747m full firmware packages from sammobile.com. if you do always go forward never go backwards. You'll hard brick if you try to roll back to an older boot loader, and it is hard to recover from.

You can flash whatever roms you want KitKat lollipop or marshmallow. ROM zips won't have bootloaders or modems. Same thing with nandroid backups. Just be careful with Odin and full firmware packages. Never go backwards.
Search and read if you're not sure.
