Is there an app to replace the stock screensaver that will do a slide show from locally stored photos?
It seems crazy to eat up bandwidth moving photos from my NAS to amazon and back to my firetv. I also have more than enough cloud storage between dropbox, onedrive, & google that I don't really need to pay Amazon for more.
Anyone?
Photos are stored locally I believe. Just replace them. I'm not at home at the moment.. Will try later.

I'm very interested in hearing what you discover.
Thanks.

See post ten. And I quote. "Okay, for the record you can find the pictures in: /data/data/com.amazon.bueller.photos/cache/
They are in hexadecimal directory names, with a 2048 sub directory.
They are jpegs, but named .cloud."
http://forum.xda-developers.com/member.php?u=610210
JJ-Kwik says "Go to*amazon, click on cloud storage and upload the pics you want. From there, on your fire TV, go into settings, about, screensaver. Change the pic's source from*amazon*to your pics.*
Delete the photo cache and data.*
That's what I did. I have 30 of my own pics as my screensaver. It only takes up 50mb's on my FTV.*"
Thanks to you, JJ-Kwik. http://forum.xda-developers.com/member.php?u=5105249

Stupid fix. Just want to point the screensaver at my own photo folder. Is that too much to ask? I guess it is.

New to android, why don't apps like Facebook and twitter have direct save for pictures the way iOS does?
Because Google plus uploads video and pictures once taken.
I think he means why cant we save images from Facebook to the device.
Sent from my Galaxy Nexus using Tapatalk 2
You can't save directly to the device however if you open the picture in facebook app there are these three little dots for options (I think you know what I mean). Then go to Share and then you can share the picture with picasa, g+ or google drive. Depending on your setup / sync routine saving to picasa / google drive should be almost the same as saving to to your device directly. Only difference is that the picture is saved in your drive folder instead of Pictures or downloads or whereever you intended to store the downloaded files. Hope this helps!
Will try that on Fb. Anyway to do on Twitter? I know about screenshots but just seems iOS made doing this easier
I dont use twitter myself but if there is a possibilty to display images fullscreen it should work the exact same way

Oh my bad Lol. Yea on the Facebook app their is no save to device but what you can do and I do this is share the photo via text and then save it. Hit the three little dots> share> messages. Then send it to yourself and your good to go.

Is that a specific app?
I'm posting here instead of android general because i would like the opinions of fellow Optimus G owners. not that having this device should matter but you know.. whatever lol.
Im looking for the best Cloud service to store and organize photos as a life long photo album. right now im using box because we get 50gb just for owning the optimus G and i find it being the best ive used compared to dropbox and google+ but i have used neither of those long enough to make a solid opinion of them either.
my daughter is about to turn 3 and i have been uploading and organizing with the folder setup through box for a photo collection of her years sense birth but im looking for a more efficient way of doing this. maybe something tailored towards photos rather than files in general.
i know of:
Box (currently using)
Dropbox (dont use it anymore because they removed the download feature)
Google+ (havnt played around with that too much)
if any of you know of anything better than box for organizing photos then please share your opinion im completely open to switching to something better. i have over 1000+ pictures of her and cant bring myself to delete any of them. i dont keep every picture i take, these are just a combination of pictures taken by myself, her mother, and other family members. too many to print and apply to a physical photo album. eventually i will delicate a tablet to just her pictures once the technology reaches stability for that sort of thing lol but untill then i need to utilize the cloud.

yeah, thanks for that. busted my bubble, but i'll make sure to get my files off before it's too late.
I use box. It's been great for me and I have saved, similar to you, literally THOUSANDS of pictures of my children there. You cannot go wrong with how well it organizes, the fast sync to your desktop and the ease of organizing.
My brother loves dropbox, but the free space given by box can't be beat, although I have heard rumors that the 50gb is free for two years and then they charge for it.
Maybe check out Dropbox again. They've really been focusing on photos lately with instant upload and auto-import, as well as album sorting both online and in the app. They've also made photo viewing online and in the app really nice, and more features are coming soon because I noticed I got an early preview invitation.

Dropbox is nice but the biggest and only issue I have with dropbox is I cant directly download a photo or file directly from the dropbox app for myself. I can "share" a link to it either my email or text it to myself but that's not convenient

Actually, if you press "Menu>Export>Save to sdcard" you can save to any folder on your sdcard. Also, you can "star" photos as favorites, and this will ensure that those photos or files always have a copy on your phone.

Same account but they don't download.. how can i start that manually?
First, did you upload the pics from your previous device? Go into photos and in the upper left hand corner are three horizontal bars. Click on that, then go to settings and make sure back up & sync is on.

Yes if full of photos.. yes sync is up, i see photos but they aren't stored on my device as when i click on my device folders those are empty
Sync only uploads them to photos. it does not DL any. You can download them only one at a time with the Android app by viewing a photo and than tapping the three dots. Otherwise view them from the cloud. On a PC you can create a downloadable zip of whatever ones you want and then copy those to your phone. But they may end up as dups on your phone as it may get confused with the one on your SD card and the one on photos since it didn't originally upload the exact on on the SD card. Complete PITA.

Yeah, it would be a nice option especially if you could mark certain photos in bulk to come down over Wi-Fi. But it is contrary to Google's movement to all cloud based content and devices with non-expandable storage. That said they let you pin music from Google play music so why not the same for photo albums.
Yeah it kind of defeats the purpose of Google Photos cloud storage if you go for trying to download a whole bunch of them to your device. I've restored my 5X once just to start off fresh and it actually felt refreshing not to worry about my locally store pics getting cleared.
I do agree that pinning cloud albums would be nice to do for offline viewing just like Google Play Music.

Anyone have a best practice for following scenario??
I have been paying $1.99 a month for 100gb a year. So now I have 40gb in the cloud and would like to take advantage of the free unlimited storage. If I cancel my storage for $1.99 will Google just delete all my current stored items. Just wondering what you guys/gals think on the process.
By the way. Loving this Pixel. Glad I made the switch from 6p. Just responsiveness alone is worth it for me.

I'm in the same boat. I take a lot of photos with my DSLR and have them back up to google photos. When talking unlimited space to back photos and videos at original size, I think are only photos and videos captured from the Pixel. I could be wrong and would love be wrong actually but I think I am right

So what If I load all my pics on my phone and re-upload does that consider them taken by my pixel or is it only taking the ones with pixel in the metadata.

On the Pixel, Google Photos shows this, and I quote: "Full resolution photos & videos uploaded from your Pixel device will get unlimited storage".
The phrasing seems to indicate photos/videos have to be uploaded by the Pixel, not necessarily taken with it.

They won't delete any info, but you want be able to receive emails are upload anything(other than photos and videos) because your over the 15 gig cap. I too like you pay monthly because they've combined the storage space on gmail, drive and photos which puts me over the limit a tad. Kinda sucks but not expensive so I don't really complain about it.

Does anyone have any clarification on this? If I transfer photos to my phone (not taken by my phone) will they be included in the unlimited storage?
I have just emailed myself a huge photo to my pixel xl and then backed it up from the phone.
It has backed up full res.
For clarification, taken from Google support.
Excellent, thanks for sharing

Thanks, I'm aware of the Google Photos being the folder where the pictures from my device are saved. However, I was quoting Mdizzle1, who said he emailed himself a photo and saved it via his Pixel XL. This would imply that he probably used the "Back up device folders" option under the "Back up & Sync" setting for Google Photos. I, too, have selected various folders on my device from the "Back up device folders" - what I would like to know is where those folders/files are accessible in Google Drive, if at all.

The exact same place. Google Drive treats all photos backed up from the Pixel XL exactly the same regardless of where the photo originated from. I have photos I've taken and photos I've downloaded and photos that were e-mailed to me and if they were backed up from my Pixel XL they are all in the same Google Drive folder.

Hm, I guess I'm having a hard time finding the file online at drive.google.com for some reason. I deliberately renamed a picture on my device with a unique string to be searchable on Google Drive and I cannot find it. Thoughts?
You mention photos that were downloaded or emailed; are you using the "Back up device folders" option in these cases?

Quick Pic shows me the folders. And, this doesn't help at all when transferring to the desktop. Also, when you delete a photo, the empty folder remains. It was not at all well thought out or tested with regular people.

I created a post on the Pixel Forum about this exact issue. I am also using Quickpic to move the portrait folders into the default camera gallery.
Camera: Portrait Mode creates individual folders for every Portrait Mode photo taken
Yes I hate this, what a stupid way to organize portrait mode pics.

It's not a problem with Google Messages, it's a problem with how you're using the software.
When you're getting to the Document Chooser, you're selecting "Images" which brings up a folder view. Instead of doing that, press "Photos" from further down on the left and you'll see a proper gallery view.
While it's annoying to use in QuickPic, if anything the new organization structure forced me to realize that the way I was accessing images in the software was actually inefficient all along and I just never realized it, and I've started using Photos for all of my snapped photos and QuickPic for all the rest (with the Camera folder hidden).
Anybody got solution ?
I just use Tasker shell commands to move files around to where I want them to be.
In this case, I have it set to move the two images into a folder of my choosing, and then delete the now empty folders. Gotta love Tasker lol
Good idea!
