[Q] Turn navigation voice off - G4 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

So i use waze mainly/ but i used google maps and ive noticed on both apps that you cnnot turn off the navigation voice at all.
Even when i tell the phone to go ointo vibrate mode - it wont turn off,
i HAVE ANOTHER APP called quick settings - ive tried turning all sound off here but the navigation voice is still on.
How do you turn it off?

Media volume controls the voice level.

In Google Maps, start navigating to a place. Click the three dots in the lower right. Check Mute.
It's similar in Waze. I'm not sure if No Interruptions sound mode is supposed to block voice in the navigation apps.

Mine is connected to vol up/down, but maybe that's because I am using it through bluetooth.

Try pulling down the notification menu and tapping the gear to the right of the volume slider, or going to Sound > Volume in settings. I think you can mute all app sounds with the bottom slider for Music, Video Games, & Other Media.
My older Android phones would adjust the volume type in context (for the open app), but it seems this may be something carriers have screwed up, unless this is a Lollipop "feature".

phineous
ive tried going into sound&notification >volume - yeh you can adjust it here, but while on waze/google maps you cannot turn off the voice with your volume up&down rocker - you have to go into its settings in the apps to turn it off.
It must me a lollipop thing.
thanks anyway

Audible touch tones ...

Audible touch tones just stopped working.
This morning when i used dial pad i've noticed that there is only vibrating without any sound...
I checked in sound settings and there is everything as it should be.
Is there any known solution for this, except master reset...
Thanks...
Sent from my HTC Desire using XDA App
Ok, so i've managed to solve this...
this has happened when i pulled out my battery without turning off the phone 1st.
So i tried everything what came to my mind, like changing sound levels etc. manually.
Then another thing came across my mind..
pressed and hold power button, turned the phone to silent, then did this same and turned the silent mode off, and it worked...
Just to mention I've never before put phone to silent, and while audible touch tones weren't working, when i press some number in my dial pad, i could hear "something" on speakerphone, something like that action was made but melody was missing.
I was trying to find solution at google but without success, but i saw that there is a lot of people having the same issue, so i recommend to try this, what i've did...
cheers...
it not working for me, but i found solution,
download "audio manager" from market, you can see that, system volume is set to min/off
i set system volume to max and uninstall app, after phone restart tones still all right!

S Voice

So I had heard from everyone how bad S-voice is and I almost didn't even use it. However, I started using it yesterday and so far it's great. It transcribes me almost perfectly and it is much easier to send text messages and call people versus remembering the exact syntax for google search. Also, the ability to snooze my alarm this morning without having to fumble half-asleep for my phone by simply saying "Snooze" is amazing. Has one else been pleasantly surprised as well?
Bottom line -- this phone just keeps getting better.
PS Is there anyway to use the voice controls that Samsung has for the stock music app for the google music app? Or is there a way to connect the samsung music player to my google music songs in the cloud? Thanks
Here's another tip about S voice , if you or others didn't know about it already. Open your app tray or anything else then click home button on bottom of the phone. There will be a slight delay. Sorry to point this out because most people I show didn't notice it until I said something.
Now go into S voice and remove the setting "Open via home key".
Now click the home key and enjoy your instant back to home with greater speed
The home button is waiting to ensure that you didn't mean to double click it. So with this setting off its like 'no reason to wait take em home'.
(Doesn't mean you can't use s'voice again just put it on a shortcut).

Nice. Is there a way to change the long press on the home button to bring up Google Voice instead of S-Voice?
I usually use and prefer Google Now, but have used S-voice to add appointments to my calendar as Google Now doesn't do it directly. S-voice is also the default voice command app when I use my Bluetooth headset, and it works well for calls.
But in general it's MUCH slower than Google Now to find or look up things (weather, local restaurants).

I would like to know this as well, or if anyone has some tips of how to access google now quickly.
Right now I have the shortcut on my lockscreen, the google search bar on my homescreen, and can long-press the menu button from the homescreen. None of these methods seems to directly activate Google Now to listen to me though, I still have to tap the microphone. I'd like to be able to use it like I did with Siri on my iPhone...
check out home2shortcut app on play store

Excellent suggestion. Thank you. It does add in a slight delay now when I press the home button, but being able to double-tap to Voice Search is awesome. Wish it would work on the lockscreen too...

In Google Voice Search Menu>Settings>Voice, select Hotword Detection. Then when you start Google Voice Search, you can say "Google" instead of tapping the mic to get started.
Guys, if you are at home already, click and hold menu key, launches Google Now. Then no delay on home key. But now you have some options

I froze the stock music player with Titanium BU and tested with S voice (hoping to get a prompt to choose a music player) and it just sits there
Google now, say "play Journey" it will prompt which music player you want to use (as long as you have a few options) and then you'd be set.

So far I am finding S Voice much more useful for activity integrated to the device wheras google Now is more useful for searches.
Example With Svoice I can ask for a particualr song and it will play it. Same to launch an app or text someone check schedule.....
I am finding that with Google now it will launch music player to a group but not a specific song etc.....
Thanks! OP!!!!! That was an incredible piece of info.

This does remove the lag, but it also (for my ROM anyway), changes how a press of the home button functions when your screen is off.
With this option unchecked, a press of the home button when the screen is off opens to my home screen, rather than just waking the device to display the last app you were running when display was turned off (very annoying for me). Thus, I have just been dealing with the lag to get the desired wake screen behavior. If anyone knows a way around this, it would be appreciated.

I actually posted a thread about how the home button removes everything and takes me to the home screen immediately. I guess this was the culprit. Hmmmmm.....

[Q] Navigation doesn't do text to speech anymore

I have a rooted and stock rom Galaxy nexus running the latest Android Version 4.2.2 the phone when ever I turn on the navigation the device no longer tells me to turn onto whatever the street name it just tells me "turn right, turn left etc" How do I get this issue resolved?
Thanks
Tap the button that mutes/un-mutes voice navigation, make sure its un-muted and turn up your MEDIA volume (not your ringer volume).

when I've had Nav just say take a right instead of the actual street/route name, I found if you go and delete the data associated with Google Maps in Settings/Apps it will correct the problem. right after I flashed to CM 10.1 from CM 10.0, mine did have this problem and I cleared data on the maps and then made sure to have the most recent maps from Play and all was well.

Can I disable Navigation notifications on Moto 360

Let's face it, navigation notifications on the Moto 360 just eat the battery. I don't need them as I'm getting voice turn-by-turn navigation through my car stereo via bluetooth. So, is it possible to turn them off? I know I could put the phone in airplane mode but I don't want to turn off all notifications, just navigation.

So I tried the same thing. Though it's not called mute in my version. But I checked off 'maps' under 'block app notifications' but I still get random navigation cards "15 miles to work" and "20 minutes to new location" yet they are random locations at random times while I'm just sitting stationary... I work in line 10 spots in 2 towns with an ever changing schedule, this function isn't useful to me... But even with blocking maps I still get these. Anyone have an idea?

That is Google Now. Go into Google Now on the phone, and customise the settings to remove that function. I had the same issue including the weather updates constantly spamming me.

I don't mind the weather, and I actually did that after my post, in the settings... Then it happened again, opened Google note on my phone, selected the pop up and choose to no longer get notifications on navigation... And it happened again. This is the one issue I've had... :/
Thanks for great advice here. I am also solve this problem easily here.

Mute Sounds without Vibration?

Is there any way to mute all notification sounds without vibration? When I'm working I don't want my phone to make any sounds or vibrate while it's laying on my wooden desk. I'm coming from Samsung Galaxy devices and there was always an option to mute ALL notifications, sound and vibration. Am I missing something? Shouldn't have to turn on Do Not Disturb for something so simple that I'm sure many people use.

Lower the volume all the way down then push down again further and the phone will go into a full silent mode except alarms.

Why "shouldn't have to turn on DND"? What you want is exactly what DND does. No sounds and no vibration. You can even choose which notification can go through with priority mode

Yeah I agree. I use the DND toggle all the time right before I go into work. You don't even have to leave the lockscreen.

I don't understand why turning the volume all the down with the rocker turns on vibrate instead of just turning down the volume. DND presents you with a myriad of options that make muting your phone take more steps than necessary. My S7 had DND and I never had to use it, guess why? Turning down the volume actually turned down the volume and nothing else. I could even mute the phone with the screen off or locked so no I shouldn't have to use a "feature" that takes more button presses than necessary.

That's cool you could do that with the screen off. There's a couple simple ways to do DND from the lockscreen. One is double tapping the screen (or press power) and volume down all the way until you get to vibrate then press volume down again to mute which then turns DND on. You can also get out of DND with the volume button too. Someone mentioned this already. Or you can double tap to wake (Or press power), slide down the the notification menu, tap DND toggle. Both are not many steps really and no unlocking necessary.
