[Q] Navigation doesn't do text to speech anymore - Samsung Galaxy Nexus

I have a rooted and stock rom Galaxy nexus running the latest Android Version 4.2.2 the phone when ever I turn on the navigation the device no longer tells me to turn onto whatever the street name it just tells me "turn right, turn left etc" How do I get this issue resolved?
Thanks

Tap the button that mutes/un-mutes voice navigation, make sure its un-muted and turn up your MEDIA volume (not your ringer volume).

Yea its not that it doesnt make any noise it does it speaks but instead of doing text to speech it just gives me basic navigation like turn right or turn left not a complete tts I've read somewhere that I need to re-install the language pack but im not sure how to do that

when I've had Nav just say take a right instead of the actual street/route name, I found if you go and delete the data associated with Google Maps in Settings/Apps it will correct the problem. right after I flashed to CM 10.1 from CM 10.0, mine did have this problem and I cleared data on the maps and then made sure to have the most recent maps from Play and all was well.

say "google" doesn't activate voice search?

Hi guys:
I have noticed a weird thing, I know there's a feature that you can say "google" after holding the home button and drag it to the google icon to activate the voice search. It works fine on me for a while, but I realized that after a while it doesn't work. Moreover, after a reboot, it would work again. Regular voice search still works fine by pressing the microphone button. Anyone know what's going on? I am on stock jellybean btw, but only rooted.
So it only works every now and again?
Also dragging any of the soft buttons up opens google now.
I have the same issue. The hotword option just randomly disappears. If you go into Google Now/Settings/Voice, the option to toggle it off and on is even gone. When you reboot it comes back, but then randomly disappears again at some point.
I had the same problem and realized i had the language under Google Now/settings/voice/language set to English (Australian).
After changing it back to Default-English (US), I have been able to consistently see the "say Google" option in the main Google Now page.
I have exactly the same problem, the language is always English (US), it still randomly disappears.

Do you use Light flow? I have noticed toggling "Accessibility" off and on when Light flow glitches out for me, or using Swype seems to kill hotword detection. Rebooting always seems to bring it back though
Sent from my Galaxy Nexus using XDA
I use both, light flow and Swype Beta. Which is killing the hot word detection ? How are they interfering anyway :s
I know from reading the issues log Light flow uses the Accessibility service. When you toggle Accessibility on and off, hotword detection disappears. It will just say "Search" in Google Now instead of Search or say Google. Dont know why but try it and youll see best way to avoid it is to not toggle that or just reboot after it happens
is there a good replacement for light flow ?

I only use lightflow, not swype, so I am sure lightflow will interfere for sure.
the same problem in here
just got an update of lightflow - we'll see how it rolls
anyway google now 'google' saying works only when EN(US) is set as language
what is more - i see that any internal integration (e.g. saying 'set timer for 10 minutes') works as well only when the overall system language is set to EN(US)
I noticed this last week also. When it wouldnt respond to saying "Google" it didnt say "Search, or say Google" in the textbox on the voice Search (Google Now) page.
I uninstalled Lightflow and not had any issues since.
I've noticed that the hot word and hot word option only appears when you have English us set.
Change to English uk and they both don't work, also the other hot word functions, send email etc don't work as well.
Disabling light flow and restarting the phone fixes it.

Can I disable Navigation notifications on Moto 360

Let's face it, navigation notifications on the Moto 360 just eat the battery. I don't need them as I'm getting voice turn-by-turn navigation through my car stereo via bluetooth. So, is it possible to turn them off? I know I could put the phone in airplane mode but I don't want to turn off all notifications, just navigation.

I haven't tried it but you probably could go into the android wear application on your phone and mute google maps.

Thanks for the quick reply. I do see Google Maps under the Navigate option on the phone but I don't see any way to toggle it off.

Tap on the gears icon to the top right. Then go to Mute App Notifications and add google maps to that list.

So I tried the same thing. Though it's not called mute in my version. But I checked off 'maps' under 'block app notifications' but I still get random navigation cards "15 miles to work" and "20 minutes to new location" yet they are random locations at random times while I'm just sitting stationary... I work in line 10 spots in 2 towns with an ever changing schedule, this function isn't useful to me... But even with blocking maps I still get these. Anyone have an idea?

That is Google Now. Go into Google Now on the phone, and customise the settings to remove that function. I had the same issue including the weather updates constantly spamming me.

I don't mind the weather, and I actually did that after my post, in the settings... Then it happened again, opened Google note on my phone, selected the pop up and choose to no longer get notifications on navigation... And it happened again. This is the one issue I've had... :/
Thanks for great advice here. I am also solve this problem easily here.

Media volume controls the voice level.
In Google Maps, start navigating to a place. Click the three dots in the lower right. Check Mute.
It's similar in Waze. I'm not sure if No Interruptions sound mode is supposed to block voice in the navigation apps.

Mine is connected to vol up/down, but maybe that's because I am using it through bluetooth.

Try pulling down the notification menu and tapping the gear to the right of the volume slider, or going to Sound > Volume in settings. I think you can mute all app sounds with the bottom slider for Music, Video Games, & Other Media.
My older Android phones would adjust the volume type in context (for the open app), but it seems this may be something carriers have screwed up, unless this is a Lollipop "feature".
phineous
ive tried going into sound&notification >volume - yeh you can adjust it here, but while on waze/google maps you cannot turn off the voice with your volume up&down rocker - you have to go into its settings in the apps to turn it off.
It must me a lollipop thing.
thanks anyway

Can't see full screen in Google Maps

Is anyone else having the issue of their on screen nav buttons cutting off part of the google maps screen? When I'm navigating I can't see the ETA section or hit the 'X' to close navigation. Really annoying. I'm wondering if it's a maps app issue or possibly the ROM I'm using somehow. I'm on the latest ICE custom ROM. Also, it might be related, but when the pop up asking which app i want to use for various options pops up (ie when I click a number to call it asks if I want to use phone or skype) I can't click on the 'Just Once' or 'Always' option because it makes me hit the nav keys (even though I am hitting the 'Always' selection). Thanks for any help.

Prevent Bluetooth App "Always On Top" while connected?

I've noticed that when I receive a call, the Bluetooth incoming call app forces itself over whatever I've got on the screen. That's fine while I'm answering, and convenient for hanging up... but it ALSO covers up things like navigation which I sometimes WANT to be active while I'm on a call.
Is there any way to force the bluetooth app to go away once I've answered?
same question here..............
Same. Looking for solution to this issue. Is there any other ROM that allows to minimize/hide the ongoing call bar?
Bump
I do not have a 'fix' but a work around for outgoing calls. Bring up dial/Bluetooth screen dial your number and once connected just hit the home button. (this only works on full-screen Bluetooth). This does little for incoming calls. Yeah, I know not much of a fix, but at least you can make outgoing calls and still use your maps, etc.

There is a transparency mod that would at least show whats behind, i.e. if you were using GPS you wouldn't lose the map viewing.

I don't remember, I just remember reading about it somewhere, I think it might have been in the software section or an xposed module.
I really hope this can somehow be fixed. I cannot believe they'd design this system to be useless while on a phone call.

I think this is what I remember seeing:

The vendor that I purchased my Eonon unit from sent me an updated firmware hoping to fix an issue with the volume control - while it didn't help that, i noticed that the in-call pop-up had a button that allowed you to minimize the pop-up - the screen is still locked, but it moves the pop-up out of the way of the Waze info at the bottom of the screen - I took the attached APK, copied it into the system/apps/mtcblutooth folder - i renamed the existing apk by adding .old to the end, then renamed the copied APK to exactly what the original apk was names - after reboot, I had the new pop up - it also changes the full-screen bluetooth screen slightly, I like it better - hope this helps - FYI,you'll need Root Explorer or something similar to access the root files -
I'm going to try this. It's above my pay grade but i'm going to decompile this and the other to see the differences.
I did install it and it works as designed. Problem is if you are taking a call or making a call you'll not have you navigation in the foreground to see it. So if you do already have it running, at least in waze, you can drag down from the top and press on waze to see it again. Other apps you cannot and it still locks you from opening any other apps unless they're in the navigation bar to begin with.
