I have a galaxy note 4 i got through verizon then had some unfortunate events lead to being unemployed for a while which led to me defaulting on my verizon contract and later picking up a cheap amazon fire phone and signed up for ting. which works fine but i have this note 4 here which i tried to give back to verizon but they wouldnt take it so now ill spend awhile paying for it and i cant currently use it so i was wondering if there was a way to use it through ting, or at the very least unlock it to sell so i can rocoupe some of what i gotta pay verizon for it, any help is really appreciated.
The Verizon phone is already unlocked. Did you default on the account? If so it may have been blacklisted.
You will get GSM on ting. It is probably missing most of the LTE bands. You can just put your sim into it and see what works. You will need an adapter. The fire phone is nano and the Note is a micro sim.

thanks for the reply, if it has been blacklisted does that mean nothing can be done with it? should i try to get a ting sim for it?. i went into the settings to add a mobile netowrk and verizon is the only one it shows and the + sign is greyed out. is that because there is only a verizon sim in it or because its blacklisted?
When a phone is blacklisted, the EMI number will not allow the phone to activate with any chip. The way it was explained to me they do the same thing for stolen phones, so I don't think it can ever be revived again.

I currently have a iPhone 5 from AT&T and am looking at getting a S3 off eBay. Now my question is if I put the AT&T sim in the AT&T S3 will I get LTE? Reason i'm asking is I see that AT&T has 2 separate LTE plans, one for the iPhone and one for everything else. I already have an adapter for the nano sim.

Its just because iphones have an additional APN they work with. If you're provisioned for an iPhone plan you will be good with any other smartphone(apart from blackberries)
all you have to do at this point is put your sim in that micro adapter and you're good to go.

Wrong! You have to add the imei and the correct data plan on your account or you won't be able to access data. I work for a retailer and have people constantly coming in after swapping phones and their data is not working. It don't cost anything for a rep to add the correct soc codes and imei to your account. Just stop by the closest store to you and ask them to do it. It just takes a couple mins and saves people from getting pissed at at&t thinking there is problem.

Wrong! Don't be rude to me when store reps like you call into me for tech help. IMEI on the account does not effect ANYTHING. If a customer needed me to activate a phone of theirs, had the SIM but couldn't access the imei, I would dummy it. As in, put 1111111111111119 in the system. And believe it or not... but it would work.
I've had customers switch from iPhone to Motorola RAZR, for example, no problem. IN FACT my girlfriend has a Blackberry data plan. She HAD an iPhone while using that plan. THEN she sold her iPhone and bought an HTC ONE X. Wouldn't you know, that worked too! I had tech disable the RIM feature on the account and add XIP provisioning (regular data provisioning)
Edit: disclaimer: unless in the US they have crazy provisioning on their plans to completely restrict a regular smartphone from not using an iPhone plan, then I apologize.

I am considering the note2 but I want to get the unlocked no commitment version. I have read n the past people will buy non carrier branded phones and the carrier will not recognize the phone so they default to the lowest data plan. Is that still the case? I currently have no data plan so I dont know what I want to do. Part of me is thinking of ditching AT&T and going to one of those prepaid services and using my old number via Google voice but to my understanding the texts get messed up.
Been using international Note N7000 for almost a year and should till tomorrow lol. I have my iPhone 4 SIM in it and the AT&T site shows the picture of a flip phone so they don't know what phone I'm using. I do have the iPhone data plan so maybe they don't care as I'm paying for a data plan.

Yes ATT will recognize it. As long as you have a micro sim card. If not you can go to an ATT store and ask for one.
if somebody can answer my question thats be great.
im trying to buy note 4 its at&t. but the person who bought the phone from at&t he did not activate the phone on at&t network.. he just got it in the mail and never contact at&t to activate it.. and he did not pay it off
ri have red pocket SIM and this is what i use for phone service..
if i buy this phone and use my SIM card with it.. does the phone with count as blacklist in at&t database ? what i know at&t blacklist phones will not work on red pocket..
thanks alot
If he did not pay it off it will likely be blacklisted. I assume he got it through the AT&T next program.
It will take up to a few months to be blacklisted.
But there is the chance that it will not be blacklisted as it wasn't registered on their network.
I was told that even if you owe money on a Next Plan device, you can still sell it to someone else. I just did that with my S5 and it went fine.
The Next Plan is tied to your account, not the device. If you sell the device and still owe money on it, they will come after you.
I could be wrong, has anyone heard differently?
so does at&t have all there phones IMEI in the database before the activate and they mark it as blacklist when they sale the phone if its unpaid and inactivated on any account on there network ?
At&t doesn't generally block phones regardless of what happened. They do everything with the account unless the account holder requests it be blacklisted. If they did do something on their end, they would just block it from use on their network, not others once it's unlocked. Generally I would say look for one from someone more reputable, but the fact that he admitted everything makes me think he's just going to let the account go unpaid.
the reason i ask because Red pocke SIM card works on at&t phones without unlock them.. they use at&t towers.. so its at&t based service.. and any blacklist phone will not work on Red Pocket SIM card.. im using LG G2 verizon and its blacklist on verizon but its works fine on redpocket.. the problem is i can not get 4G LTE with verizon phones i can get HSPA.. its should be at&t phone to get 4G LTE..
and the reason im trying to get that phone because its cheaper than to get it from at&t..
My 5x comes in on Friday and am wondering what people have been doing to get their microsim activated for their line? Did you just walk into the store with phone in hand or did you have to haggle them to do it for you and not tell them what device you're putting it in?
You may want to just go ahead and get a new nanoSIM to replace your microSIM. I actually had to get a new SIM for mine because my cut-down and sanded-down microSIM was giving me intermittent "no SIM installed" errors on the phone. I did it via Verizon customer service chat and just told them that I got a "different" phone (not "new" phone) and needed a nanoSIM to replace my old microSIM. They sent me a new SIM without asking what phone it was for, everything works fine now.
I had them mail me a sim. When I called to activate he asked was it for my htc one m7, I said yes and they proceeded to activate. When it was activated he saw it was a different phone, but I just said I bought a nexus, thanked him, and hung up.
It's worth going into an official Verizon store and asking them to activate it. I had no problem when they looked up my IMEI.
Same . no problem going into store and handing them the nexus and having them activate it

Just throw the sim in the phone. Done.

My friend purchased a Samsung S4 M919 from someone he knows for $30 this week. He wanted to set it up via prepaid. He got the sim card and the refill card. Created the account and the sim is active and working (Tried it in another phone). When it comes on it just says no service. I tried searching the networks and having it connect to T-Mobile but it just says unable to connect. The phone was just unlocked via a unlock code and that was successful (Tried the service code way and it didn't work).
I did find out just recently that the previous owner had a balance on this phone or account. Is that why it wont work and is that the case on Prepaid as well? If so, would it work on AT&T? I did try a sim but its not an active one and it didn't pick up the network.
Running Stock Rom 5.1
Any help would be appreciated.
Also I wanted to check to make sure the phone was working properly I put in an old AT&T sim card but the network did not come up. Is that normal since the sim is not active or should it show the network? I want to make sure its working before my friend spends more money on another prepaid sim.
If the phone had a previous balance due, it will not pick up service. The phone is likely blocked until the balance is paid off

That would only be on T-Mobile right? It should work other services like AT&T, etc...

Not necessarily, it could also be blocked on other networks. It may or may not work

I thought if a phone was blocked from a carrier because it was stolen or lost then it's Blacklisted, that goes to all carriers. But I thought if its blocked on a carrier or non payment it's only blocked for that carrier. If you unlock the phone you can use it on other carriers. Is that right?
I found out from my friend that the person he got the phone from did owe on it but he thinks it was on the bill but it might have been the phone.
