Move/integrate system app - Desire 816 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Titanium backup crashed trying to move AdAway to system app, removing the app from user, but not getting it to system.
Anyone know how to make this work on our phone? Titanium Backup seems to be having issues with system partition stuff since Kit-Kat, but I'd really like to get it working. Space is getting low, and integrating system apps would be great.

System ROM appears to be low...

was just in titanium backup and noticed that my System ROM is getting pretty low. what are some ways to get that space back, or is it even a concern and necessary? i haven't moved any apps to to storage yet, was wondering if having a lot of apps installed would be the culprit here.
How low are you? Unless you are almost completely out you are fine. Installed apps are in a different and much larger partition. To free up space in system you can install a deodexed rom and/or remove unwanted system apps (bloat) with titanium backup or directly from system/app.

Bloatware

Hi Guys
What is the best app to remove bloatware from my WFS? I've got SystemApk Manager installed and it works alright, but I'm not sure what is safe to remove and what isn't. I've just started freezing what looks safe to freeze, but I'm not 100% certain.
Thanks
Best thing to do is create a nandroid backup, and also titanium backup, at least if you remove/delete something that causes problems afterwards you can restore the system.
If in doubt leave well alone.
It's mostly down to Trial and Error

Woops I didn't make any sort of backup I've been using NoBloat to remove apps, using its backup and delete option...It puts a backup on my memory card, but now when i try and restore them, it doesn't seem to work.

About Titanium Backup

Let's say I was running a Sense Rom...
and I did a Titanium backup where I would back up all apps and system data...
And let's say I'm like, screw it, the Sense Rom is too slow, and I flashed a CM7 ROM.
And then let's say I restored everything via Titanium back up, including all the system data.
Would the system data from my sense ROM be compatible with the CM7 ROM?
No. Never restore system data period. And don't restore system apps that are sense onto a non-sense rom(different fframework)

How do I know which ones are system apps and which ones is system data? How do I restore normal App data without restoring system data? Is there a batch function for backing up app + app data without backing up system app + system data?

Click to collapse
"Restore missing apps with data" and "restore all apps with data" are the two batch jobs that resore just the apps and the data belonging to the app (ie. saved games).

Stay away from any options that say "system," and if possible, like in the case of apps that are simple to reinstall, I'd suggest doing so from the Market (or where ever you download from). Occasionally an app+data will not work properly after a TiBa restore. I've never had an issues restoring games (apps) with scores (data), but to reduce the risk of problems I always cleanly reinstall those apps that don't take too much time.
This is just my opinion, of course.

[Q] Best System App Remover?

Hey guys.
Picked up a XP from Verizon yesterday, rooted it, and I'm getting things set up for myself now. My question is this: what's the best app for removing system/stock apps that can also easily restore them if desired? I used SDX Stock App Remover on my Epic 4g, but I know better than to dive in with a new device without investigating first.
I know TB can remove stock apps, but in my past experience, it can't always restore them, which I'd like the option to do in case I want to play Bruce Lee's Flying Circus again for some crazy reason.
Thanks in advance guys
If you backup the system app, TB can restore it too. Works perfectly if you're using the same rom that you backed them up from
You! Your the best system app remover. just use a root enabled file manager. After you delete an app from /system/ remeber to wipe the dalvik cache, this will remove unwanted .dex files.

Note 2 bloat ware removal help?

I'm not sure this is the right thread... but....
Right now I am using a note 2.... Over time it's gotten choppy, slow, non responsive and force closing apps. I rooted it to try to get rid of what people call Bloat Ware but I don't know how. Can anyone help me figure out how to delete some Bloat ware?

I would say you have two options.
Root device, install custom Rom.
Or
Root device install titanium backup, or similar software and uninstall or freeze apps which might be bloat.
Sometimes a factory reset does the trick, but you need to back up your data.

I already have superuser. And I think titanium. All I do is go in titanium and stop what seems like bloat?

Yup, but it may be more than that. I suggest backup data, apps that you want to keep, freeze unnecessary apps, then do factory reset. If you have cwm or twrp just do a backup in case

Good advice given above: nandroid backup, use TiBU to freeze apps and use your phone for a few days, then delete frozen apps.
Why freeze then try for a few days? Because sometimes apps are intertwined with the system, and deleting them can bring down your system.
This thread may be a bit out of date and for a different carrier, but it will give you an idea of where to start with freezing applications via Titanium Backup or something similar: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2025134
I definitely recommend backing up your important data before going on a freezing frenzy. There is a lot which can be frozen, though.
If you are rooted, make sure you have a custom recovery like cwm or twrp. Clear cache and dalvik cache in recovery and reboot. That may help with the laginess of your phone.
