[Q] Unfortunately Google Hangouts Has Stopped - G4 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I have hangouts disabled on my phone. About once every two hours the message pops up "unfortunately google hangouts has stopped" interrupting anything that I'm doing. How is this happening with the app disabled?

Try to uninstall it, it will get it to the version thet it first came with it, then force close it and disable it
Sent from my LG-H815 using Tapatalk

Yup same issues here, I used debloater to disable it and it's fine now...

Yeah, I did have it disabled, thanks for the suggestion though.
I'll have to try the debloater.
Thanks both!

Unfortunately the Debloater already reports that hangouts is blocked.
Oh well.

Enable it and then disable it via debloater.
Sent from my LG-H812 using XDA Forums Pro.

So Debloater couldn't re-enable on it's own it kept coming back as disabled after toggling, applying, and re-reading the apk's. Re-enabled on the phone then disabled on Debloater. We'll see how it goes!

Did the trick I think. Haven't seen the message for 48 hours!
Thanks!

wooohooo! Thanks Eagle1337!!! That fixed it. Kinda makes sense to 'jiggle' it from being manually disabled and then disable it through the debloater. Glad to have that stupid message gone! been over 24hr now and haven't seen it.
cheers

[Q] I can't get rid of the stock messenger notif..please help

I can't get the damn stock android messenger to stop placing notifications on the taskbar. I've tried unchecking the notification box, force closing, reset to defualt and unchecking again.
I've using handcent. How get rid of the damn thing? I can disable the messenger with pm disable....messenger.. Would that fix the problem?
It was working fine then i did a factory reset and it all went to hell after that.

Going into the stock messager. Disabling notifications. Didn't work??

Nope, I unchecked it and i still get notifications. I'm debating on disabling the program cuz I've raed in other forums that its had to run for handsent to work.

Why don't you try another factory reset?

I had the problem too where I got two notifications even though I use the stock messaging app. If I click on the first it opens the message as normal, and if I clicked on the second one it would go to all the threads, but that notification stays in the status bar. It was driving me crazy, then I clicked the "clear notifications button". It kept on popping up afterwards and I kept on clearing it, but it doesn't happen anymore.
What did I do to make it stop? No fraking idea.
The factory reset worked. Even though I wanted to avoid going that route.

Google+ keeps re-enabling itself...anyone else having this problem?

So I have about 4 apps "disabled" through ICS, and it's worked fine except for one of them. Google+ seems to re-enable itself, randomly, and I don't know why (or even how!). It doesn't seem to happen when I reboot, or overnight, or anything specific...it just seems to randomly pop back up in the tray and display as Enabled in the app settings.
Anyone else having this problem? Or find a way to combat it? I have no use for Google+ and I don't like that it *can* eat up battery (doesn't usually, but it can).
This has been answered atleast four other times, but since your search is broken let me answer it again. You can not keep it disabled, just delete it using a file explorer and root.
Sent from my Galaxy Nexus
Apparently my search *is* broken.
Oh wait, no, *all* search is broken when using the "+" symbol because it's seen as a boolean string and not an alphanumeric character. Searching for "Google+" or even "Google won't disable" comes up with nothing helpful at all.
Thank you for answering my question, but no thanks for being a rude ass in the process. Maybe *you* should try using the search function next time to see how it works before posting an inconsiderate and incorrect comment, no?
I am able to keep my Google+ disabled without having it re-enable itself (even after restarting my phone). Did you make sure to disable everything else that may be tied to Google+ (such as syncing photos)?

Ya, I've always had photo syncing off. That should be the only thing that's tied to it, right? Just turn off syncing then disable the app?
There doesn't seem to be any rhyme or reason to it re-enabling itself...just seems that after some arbitrary amount of time it's suddenly back enabled. Seems to be a few days.
It keeps showing an update is available for Google+ even though it is disabled. Anyway to prevent that?
---------- Post added at 12:41 AM ---------- Previous post was at 12:33 AM ----------
Never mind, it was enabled again, so yeah I need to delete it also. How do you go about deleting it with a file manager program? Which folder, etc?

Install the update. Disable G+ again, if necessary.

Well in order to Disable a baked-in app you have to uninstall updates, first. So you'd be updating, removing updates, then disabling. Would have the same effect as just disabling.

Disable AT&T Address Book

Hey Guys.
I just received my Optimus G Pro from the US. I have unlocked it and its working fine in the UK on EE. However when I open up contacts it keeps trying to load AT&T Address Book which is really annoying. I just press back and it goes back to the regular contacts menu, but is there any way of disabling it? I have managed to disable all of the other AT&T bloatware from the main application drawer. Any ideas?
Thanks.

I don't see an option to disable that. If I click on it it opens up and wants to sync. Long pressing does nothing and there are no check boxes to uncheck.
Thanks but I tried that and there is no option to disable it. Is there any other way or will I have to root?

I had the same problem, I ended up rooting and freezing all at&t apps with Titanium Backup, after that no more annoying at&t contact backup crap, or Drive Mode, or Navigator, etc.

You can go into apps in setting then to Att address book and stop it from there too. On mine I can just tap Att address book in the sync area and the it opens up and then you can check it or not to stop the sync

If you're rooted then you can always change the AAB.apk to AAB.bak with Root Browser (or any other root file explorer) and that'll disable it. I prefer this method to uninstalling just in case I need to do a software upgrade-it's easy enough to reverse without having to flash back to stock.

After you get into your contacts, go into settings -> display options then scroll to the bottom and select customize. UNCHECK at&t address book. After that it shouldnt try to open it.

If rooted do not uninstall de AT&T adress book. It is tied with the stock contac app. And if you do like i did in the past with at&t phones you will not be able to open the stock contac app. Your phone will say Apk not found. And then you will have to download a contac app like go contacs. It is best to just disable it. Very clever at&t with theyre crap.

There are several options. The easiest thing is to make the root and then uninstall AT & T Address Book, all you do with Rom ToolBox. For the other applications. You just have to enter settings - Applications - All - Looking for the At & t and then: Force stop, turn off the notifications, delete the cache and then turn off. That's it!! It's that easy. If my information help you, just give clicking Thanks!
Other solution
I know this is an old post, but maybe someone know how can I remove the AT&T address book without rooting the device. Every time I'm on wifi or 3g and I open contacts this application opens first. It is extremely annoying. I just have an app from work which requires from device not too be rooted so I must find some other solution.
Thank you.
I never set mine up and it doesn't pop up. Maybe click through it without setting it up? There must be a way to do it because I haven't used root to force any of my AT&T apps. There's also an att address book options under accounts and sync. Maybe you can use that to stop it.

Nothing works, those AT&T guys closed all the options I could think off. In accounts they doesn't have the option to stop it. BTW, I never set mine up as well. But every time I get into "contacts" it starts connection with the AT&T address book to give me instructions how to set it up. It is really, really annoying.
Thank you.
A little late, but...
On my LG G2, I cannot disable the AT&T address book, but I never see it or use it during normal use. The only time I see it is if I either look into the apps section (where it can be stopped, but cannot be disabled), or if I go into "Accounts and Sync", where is shows the accounts such as Google, Skype, etc. If I click on "AT&T Address Book" there, it opens and asks:
Do you want to sync this device with the contacts in your online AT&T Address Book?
I click on "No", and it says
Activate AT&T Address Book at a later date by simply selecting AT&T Address Book from the settings menu of your device address book.
I of course would never do that.
I found a menu yesterday with "hidden menus" app from the play store. Try dialing *#*#2666#*#* and setting "registration" to "completed". You might also tinker with those settings and see if it stops it.

Thank God for small favors (and good info) this is the only thing that worked for me. I used to root and uninstall it or flash a dif. Rom. But I wanted the updates I missed and the future ones, so I flashed back to stock and of course got the cursed "you cant stop me, haha" ATT address book!!!

Stock messaging app

It's showing the little orange 'new' circle against settings but I can't find anything or clear the orange dot.
Not a biggy but annoying, any ideas?
Got the same and it can't, for the moment be cleared. It will go away i suspect after some sort of an update.

If that's the case then there's probably an update from Samsung.
Go to the settings in messages» about messages
Should be a button there to update or you can check if there's an update in the galaxy store

Possibly could be a weird bug but by chance what version of messages are you running?
And do you have any package disabler apps running like ccswe or package disabler pro?
Msg app 10.1.00.76 and CCSWE but latter has no impact. I've tested it, to make sure, by re-enabling all that is disabled.

Hmm, you're running a newer version than I am. Mine is 10.1.00.73
But the reason I asked about the app manager is that I wondering if you disable BadgeProvider, SamsungExperience and Galaxy Store, restart the phone and see if it goes away then you can re-enable them if you want to.
Edit:
Just realized ccswe doesn't allow you to disable certain apps and the Galaxy Store is one of them. Well the major thing is the BadgeProvider service (com.sec.andoid.provider.badge) that's the service that gives the little orange dot to apps and such if they have a notification. So if it's disabled then the orange dot should go away, restart the phone to make sure it's cleared then re-enable it if you want to.
I personally keep BadgeProvider disabled since the status bar already provides me info on which app needs attention.
No, that orange notification doesn't bother me. It will be resolved at some point I'm sure. Having spent hours of "fun" in the past trying to unravel experiments with blocking various apps that broke functionality in unexpected places I've learnt what apps and services to leave be.
