[Q] LG G2 update issues - Sprint LG G2

I have a Sprint LG G2 LS980 running KIT Kat 4.2.2 with TWRP installed. I was prompted to install a system update, & after I did, when I rebooted device it remained stuck in TWRP. Thanks to the amazing people @ XDA, I was able to find some commands to run in TWRP terminal which enabled to load OS. The issue now is that I am prompted with an update once again. Will this become a trend, or is there something that I need to change in order for this device to remain stable, and run smooth again? Thanks!

Yes you will keep getting updates. Because you have retired and custom recovery it will fail always

So what are my options? Must I flash the stock recovery, or leave as is?
How do I configure device to be capable of updating? Thanks!

First main concern of yours should be which service provider you are on. Sprint or another.

My p930 is rooted and running the latest CWM recovery and CM10 nightlies. The screen is broken and I 'll need to send it in for warranty/insurance claim. I've run a CWM backup, and transferred that to my PC. Now I need to return to stock/unroot.
This thread, along with other unroot threads, are kinda old. Is SOC > Unroot still the best method? Has anyone unrooted from 4.1/CM10? Are there any other known methods?

If all else fails you could use the LG update tool to update to official ICS... I personally don't know if there's an easier way.
On the broken screen thing, how much are you being charged to replace it? You can get the digitizer glass/frames on eBay for around $40-45. There is a nice guide on how to tear-down the phone floating around the general forum which I have used three times so far : But it's pretty easy to do and would save you some time of being without your phone... and save you the hassle of having to unroot and all.

Best thing to do now is just update using the official LG updater to ICS from download mode. If it refuses to install for any reason, flash the V18f ICS update first.
I'm also wanting to go back to the stock ICS on my optimus LTE. I'm just not 100% sure what I should flash first. Currently if I connect the phone to the LG mobile software it says that my phone is already up to date. Where would I be able to get a V18F ICS update? And also once I've done that will I be able to point the LG software to Telus I don't remember since it's been so long since I upgraded my phone.

Then you should be able to follow the unbrick guide to downgrade to GB, and instead flashing CWM and carrying on from there, try to use the LG updater while on stock GB.

The v18f version is here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1668476
The nice thing about this is that this exe will flash no matter what ROM you currently have installed. Then, after installing this, the official updater will recognize your phone as out of date and will allow you to flash to the official v20c update easily.
Seems to want to update to V10J and that's about it, never get's to V20E. Also after the update it just stays at the Telus splash screen.
I was able to load the ATT V18F no problem and then get to the point where the LG software wants to update but that's where it end unfortunately.
Guess I'll keep trying and see how it goes.

Oh, that's actually fine. You just need to do one more thing: after you get stuck on the splash screen, pull the battery and put it back in. Then hold down volume down + power button to turn the phone on (same way you access CWM if you have it installed). Then press power button twice to confirm and your phone will reboot after a little bit and should work fine from there.
HOWEVER, if it's not even the version you want, then that doesn't help you much. What version of the phone do you have? P935 from Telus?

[Q] Update to KitKat from rooted LS980

I have a Sprint LG G2 (LS980). Current rom version is ls980zva. I want to update to Kitkat, but the software update options stays on "waiting for download" and never actually downloads the ls980zvc rom.
Not sure if this is because I rooted. I did remove some bloats after rooting which I restored but still the download does not work.
I am not using this phone in the US, so there is no sprint service available. But I am able to download and browse stuff on the phone from my current providers service.
Any help or suggestions? Thanks!

best bet to get 4.4.2 is to run the zvc .tot. fast and easy than ioroot 25 gets root back just as quick and painless

Yep. I ended up flashing to stock and then flashing to LS980ZVC. Works fine now!

[Q] Difficulties Upgrading to Lollipop

Hi, first of all I want to say that I am relatively new to android and therefore only have a basic understanding of everything. My desire EYE is currently on 4.4.4 rooted and have been having problems upgrading it to 5.0, I know I have to unroot and return to stock in order to be able to flash the stock recovery and be able to then flash lollipop on there. Problem is whenever I flash one of the stock 4.4.4's found on here superuser installer is still there (even when I tell to TWRP to not install it) and when I got to the bootloader is still says that the software is Modified so am still unable to flash the stock recovery and get lollipop.
Can anybody help shed some light on this problem and possibly help me fix it?
Hi there,
I have found I was able to update using the procedure written in this topic. Could you see if that helps you?

Thanks for your reply but have already tried this and when I tried booting into the recovery menu it gave me the red triangle because I have modified system partition, and all my efforts so far to change it to official have so far been unsuccessful
In fact tried it again and it worked this time, however when I try and download the update on my phone a message pop's up saying my phone can't be updated because the software is modified and not official HTC firmware

Flash stock software update through TWRP?

First of all this phone belongs to my dad. This means I haven't used it and I'm not familiar with many things about it.
The phone is running a stock ROM. It is not rooted, but it does have TWRP.
A software update prompt popped up trying to install "v20p-apr-03-2018" (why is an update for the G4 called v20 lol).
Telling it NOT to download it and NOT check for updates ever doesn't work. The update prompt comes back in 2 days tops. So **** you LG.
Since it's not rooted the easiest option seems to be to flash the update, however it just launches TWRP and does nothing. I found no way to actually download the update and keep it on the device so that I can manually tell TWRP to flash it.
So: Is there a way to download said update and flash it through TWRP? Or should I root it and delete the stupid update tool? I really don't want to flash a stock recovery.

Freeze or uninstall Software Update (LG proprietary, i.e., closed source, app) - may require root. That should stop the annoying requests. If you are able to upgrade you will lose TWRP and will have to re-flash TWRP again. You may want to consider that you do not have the latest Google security patches by not doing the update, putting your Dad's phone more at risk.

It's not like LG updates security patches that often so it's not that big of a deal if I can't update it.
It's also fine if I lose TWRP during the process, I just want to avoid flashing stock recovery just for the sake of updating it.
And I still can't download the update and keep it. I don't know where it puts the update after downloading it. I couldn't find it in TWRP.

It helps if you include your phone model when looking for specific firmware updates.
If you're Dad's phone is an H815, there are some v20p downloads available here: https://lg-firmwares.com/lg-h815-firmwares/firmwares/
In order to flash in TWRP without losing TWRP, you would have to remove the stock recovery and create a flashable zip ...
Easiest is to simply freeze or remove the lg Software Update app as I indicated - the annoying update notification should then disappear ...

This update does not contain any security fixes it's just for the new European data protection law..
First thing you should try is:
Upgrade TWRP.
Do a full TWRP backup!
Test android update again.
Second thing:
Have you tried the LG bridge windows software to update?
If so and it fails there too you can find the update when you try to Flash it within the LG folder of your Windows PC afterwards use this KDZ file and lgup to flash it.
There is a chance that when using the internal updater that you can find the update file when in TWRP in /cache in a folder fota but it will likely be in a LG specific format so may don't help you much.
Third thing :
Disable the LG updater within TWRP (search for a howto)

Repairing damaged recovery partition on Huawei Y560-U02 - Solved

I watched a few videos on YouTube on how to upgrade the Android O/S but none of them mentioned that it needs to unlock the bootloader 1st.
So before I found out that I need to unlock it I tried installing ROM before I knew that.
The phone came with Android Kitkat 4.4.2 and there is an official Lollipop for it that I want to install.
The device is rooted with Kingroot.
I tried the installations two times and the phone still works but I can no longer boot into recovery mode or fastboot mode. It just hangs and then I need to remove the battery to get it to work again.
I just want to restore it back to what it was before and then I will work on unlocking the bootloader.
I prefer to use tools that are free of cost.
Issue has been resolved.
I flashed the device with a pac file using SPD upgrade tool and now all is back to default.

You meant un-official, right?
Sorry for the delay. I check the linked email once per month.
Do you still need help on this?
I thought that it was official Lollipop. But it does not exist for this phone.
Yes I can help you get it to what ever you need but it is not easy if you want to do more than just resorted it back to default.
I will tell you more if you still need it.
