Using the AT&T Note 4 on Straighttalk. Interested in root to break tether block. Any ideas?
use FoxFi app. I haven't tested it in a while but last time I used it, it worked:

Not working. i believe AT&T N4 is not a supported model.
FoxFi doesn't work on Note 4. Tried it.
Only WiFi Tether Router works that I know. You need root to use it, but once the WiFi router is on, you can lose root and the router still works until you turn it off.

Doesn't work on ATT Note 4 Kit Kat 4.4.4.
You get the ATT error message saying your device is not setup for WiFi Tethering.
I have read that it is no longer possible to roll back Lollipop to Kit Kat on the AT&T Note 4. Is this correct? I have also read that I could attain tether in temporary root with xposed framework or various apps and it will maintain when root is lost after reboot.

Hi Guys, i'm planning on getting a Note 2 on Verizon as soon as it comes out. I have been using the Droid Bionic and love the wifi tether app that allows me to share data with other devices without having to pay the extra $30 that Verizon asks for. I was wondering if i can do the same on the Note 2? i tried looking around for an answer but couldn't find one anywhere.

yes. just install one of many tethering apps and you'll be able to. wifi will need root permissions most likely. but usb tethering will probably be fine.
depending how VZW does makes the built in app, you could use it. if they don't track it. which some companies do..
U already have an integrated tether app found in your settings. Just customize as u like, turn it on, and there u go

Not sure how Verizon is going to setup their hotspot on the Note 2, but to get around it, why not use this?
FoxFi - Google Play
No rooting required.

I bought T-mobile Note 2 and FOXFI doesn't work. and my phone is rooted so i installed Wifitether, on my phone it show that tethering is enabled but i don't see the ssid on my laptop or other android device. i thought the ssid was hidden but no it is was not hidden. so i am going to flash N7100 rom into my Tmobile Note 2. and use stock tethering app.
you cant use foxfi because its isnt real designed for jb expect the nexus its a ics app an wifitether app even with rooted phone wont word its not a app end problem its a os problem theres a apn block on the phone that wont let rooted apps push data threw that has to be delt with first all versions are having this problem tmob, verzion, sprint,[email protected],iternal,
Was looking for a good way to enable the hotspot on my ATT Optimus G and tried a bunch of crappy apps. Finally found one that works well so I thought I'd share it.
Wifi Tether (Free) by Müller, Lemons, Buxton (apparently I'm a noob and can't post links so go find it yourself)
After installing it, set the device mode to the Galaxy S3 and presto, it works. My iPad sees it, connects, and works like a champ. Only catches are you gotta root and be careful with ATT snooping your data since they will try to make you pay more for tethering.
First thing that I am going to do today when my phone arrives is to install Foxfi. No root required

I tried foxfi too. It never enabled wifi tethering. It would just sit there saying it was enabling but never would.

I use wifi tether and works great, but also I have root...., I use my 10" Xoom as my navigation unit in the truck, so tethering to my LOG for local searches and stuff works like a charm.

The North American ATT version does not have a hotspot button in that drop down menu. Also, because it's ATT you have to pay extra for tethering. The solution I listed above is for those that want to run the hotspot without paying ATT extra to do it.
And an update on Foxfi: Apparently our phone and the SG3 use similar chipsets for network connectivity. Unfortunately, the latest version of Foxfi does not work with the SG3 or our phone for mobile hotspot. You can use the bluetooth DUN instead. Hopefully they will put out an update to add the right drivers.

They updated their policy so that is only if you have a unlimited data plan, if you are on tiered you can tether as kong as you stay under your quota.

Well I can say that none of these options work on the sprint varient, as I've tried Wifi tether for root, barnacle, and FoxFi, and all show enabled, but I can't find the device to connect to it. So if it really is enabled, I can't see the SSID. I havn't tried to manually connect to the SSID, but I have run all tethering apps with SSID broadcast on, so I should be able to see it...
Never mind got it working using Generic (wlan0) ICS/JB setting...
Please explain, i am using pdanet on mine with sprint via usb tether . I don't want to root at this time but want to get hotspot free.
1 thing I've found with USB tether is that it only works at half speed of what I get for speed the galaxy s3 that I had prior would get full Speed. Also when connected to my laptop via USB I get hey message stating slow battery charge
Anyone know what I can do to increase speed through the USB cable

Thanks a lot. Works great. I couldn't figure out how to make my devices recognize my network.
The LG Optimus G E971/E973 (which is what this forum is for, NOT AT&T or Sprint) supports WiFi hotspots by default. There is an option to enable and use this natively in the settings application.

^ ya it doesn't work if you don't have tethering enabled on your data plan
most of the new new plans have tethering enabled is a different thing
this thread is for enabling tethering without carrier restrictions
for ex rogers doesnt allow tethering on north american one rate plans
Works thanks

It worked like a charm on my lg. I tried to use barnacle as well as the default system and neither would work.
Thanks for the post.
what would be best way out for unlocked att version ?
I will be using it in india after unlock and we can tether so whats best way out?
flash to canadian ROM or what?
what you all suggest?
This is the first time I have posted here so I do not know if I put this in the right area, sorry if I did not.
I have the ATT sgh-i467 note 8.0 and I have been trying to use wifi tethering. After doing some investigation, it turns out that ATT blocks tethering unless you pay them a tethering fee or buy the 5 GB plan, What BS that is. I have tried to find a work around and there does not seem to be one.
Has anyone found a wifi tether work around for the ATT note 8?

I have tried it and all the other adhoc wifi tethers, they will not work on the new phones and tablets and the carriers have tethering locked out in the device. I was hoping had found another way to do this without a hack.

I tried this but it did not work, one of the things I could not do was:
Step 10. Scroll down and make sure “MSS clamping” and “Routing fix” are both checked on.
I did not have mss clamping
Did you try this on a ATT note 8.0?

I just froze it using titanium back up and restarted it. I went to settings then to more settings and I did not see the native tethering show up. Did I miss something?

SUCCESS!!
The freezing of the att access app worked but it did not bring up the native tether option. I tried foxfi, I could get the computer to connect but it would not go to the internet, so then I tried tetherfy and that worked. I am sending this right now tethered to my note 8.0.
Screw ATT, it makes me so mad that these USA carriers try to screw everyone, I love it.
Thanks,

any way to auto kill allaccess?
Thanks to all on here, I was able to get my tether working. I was bummed though to find it disabled the AT&T data widget, as I used that to keep an eye on data used.
Well, I messed around and here is what I discovered...
I un-froze allaccess in Titanium and rebooted. After rebooting I was able to restore the allaccess widget (though tethering was again crippled). I then converted allaccess from a system app to a user app using Titanium, then forced closed it. I was then able to tether again, and the data widget still remained active. This works great until I reboot the unit, then I just need to force close the allaccess again to tether.
I am wondering if there is a way to automatically force close the program upon startup? This would allow use of the widget to monitor data without having to manually fc the allshare program.
Anyone know how to accomplish this?
So after reading around I realized I can't use any wifi tether on stock rom 4.3 or higher...i need to know what my options are. I've been trying to track down the answer to these questions for weeks on how to get this wifi tether working on my Note 2 on sprint. I'm already rooted

Lollipop broke my hotspot on my s5. So, I bought a note 4 with kitkat still on it. I have wifi turned off so that the update will not download.
My question is this. Does the hotspot still work for those that accepted the lollipop update? I would kinda like to use my wifi some times. Lol
Is no one using the hotspot on their note 4 without the msl work around?
Hotspot works fine on my SM-N910P with Lollipop. Just make sure you have your MSL before applying the Lollipop OTA.

So you ARE using the msl work around? I'm trying to make sure the hotspot works without it. Do you know if the hotpsot works without the work around on lollipop? This is for business and I need the expense for taxes. Lol
Yep. I'm using the workaround. I don't have first-hand experience trying it without the workaround, but the workaround uses the stock app, so I don't know why it wouldn't work for a paying customer

Ok. Thanks.
The msl method is easy. Works on lollipop without rooting. That's on the s5 and note 3 and 4.
