Lollipop broke my hotspot on my s5. So, I bought a note 4 with kitkat still on it. I have wifi turned off so that the update will not download.
My question is this. Does the hotspot still work for those that accepted the lollipop update? I would kinda like to use my wifi some times. Lol
Is no one using the hotspot on their note 4 without the msl work around?
Hotspot works fine on my SM-N910P with Lollipop. Just make sure you have your MSL before applying the Lollipop OTA.

So you ARE using the msl work around? I'm trying to make sure the hotspot works without it. Do you know if the hotpsot works without the work around on lollipop? This is for business and I need the expense for taxes. Lol
Yep. I'm using the workaround. I don't have first-hand experience trying it without the workaround, but the workaround uses the stock app, so I don't know why it wouldn't work for a paying customer

Ok. Thanks.
The msl method is easy. Works on lollipop without rooting. That's on the s5 and note 3 and 4.

So, I just got my S3 today and immediately rooted it. I mainly just want to tether wirelessly. I don't care to flash new ROMS just yet.
Anyway, before I froze the Sprint Hotspot app with Titanium, I opened up the app just to look around. On my old school Evo 4G it would always tell me I would need to activate the service to use the feature. I just used the free android tether.
I started it up and it is working? I tethered it to my iPad... Is this normal?
I didn't get a notice that it's a paid app or anything.
I checked my account, online, and it still shows wireless hotspot as an option to subscribe to, but it is not listed as part of my plan options.
I am wondering if I use it if Sprint is going to just add it to my bill. When I was with Tmobile I got EDGE data for free for 2 years because of some glitch... I lost it when I upgraded.
Maybe this is a similar glitch? Just wondering of this has happened to anyone else?
No, they can't just add it to your bill. It either works or doesn't work.
In your case, it must just be a favourable fluke that it is working, but I'll wager that eventually down the road you'll get the standard message about subscribing to a hotspot plan.
On a side note, have you tried FoxFi? It's a tether app that does not require root.

To add to this, you won't find FoxFi in the play store. Sprint took it off for all sprint users. Instead, you'll have to google FoxFi, find their website, and install the APK.
Just tried foxfi , could not get it to work on my sprint g3

I just tried tethering on my stock non rooted Galaxy S III and it worked as well. I i don't have a subscription either so it makes me wonder if it works as a trial or something.

I tried both the Sprint Hotspot and FoxFi on my rooted stock Sprint Galaxy S3. Neither one worked.
this is what the cool kids are using for tethering lol. http://android-wifi-tether.googlecode.com/files/wifi_tether_v3_2-pre1.apk set device profile for galaxy nexus(cdma and gsm both work) in the settings. foxfi sucks. its nice if u dont wanna root but if ur already rooted its pointless to waste ur time with it. someone had to say it.

I can CONFIRM that the current version of foxfi does not work on an unrooted Sprint SGS3. Also, the android-wifi-tether is not working, either, on a ROOTED Sprint SGS3 (LG2 - haven't tried it with LG8 release yet).
Sprint seems to be trying pretty hard to prevent its users from wifi tethering (without one of their wifi data plans).
On my current phone foxfi and the andorid tether app both act up. They let me connect for a while and then they just stop working. It may be the phone though. If I do usb tether though I can stay one for days.
I cant wait till I get my s3 next week though.

I can't get WIFI to work at all, but USB tethering via Easytether works great.
Never tried foxfi unrooted but can confirm it doesn't work on my rooted phone. WiFi tether works just fine for me tho(on all modems: Len,lf9,lg2,lg8). I think the problems people are having is just because of the phone being new. I don't think iT has anything to do with sprint trying to block it.

FoxFi says on their site (right now!) ...
"*Support for the new Galaxy S3 and the new ICS update for Epic Touch are being worked on. Should be compatible soon in a future update."
My GS3 is not rooted yet. FoxFi didn't work ... neither Wifi, nor BlueTooth mode for Hotspot. BUT, the Sprint basic Hotspot is working even without me enabling it in my account. Hmmm.
Will try to root and try the google base wifi tether sometime soon.
tethering
Yeah the sprint app is working for me too and I don't have a tethering plan either.

If you can't get the Wi-Fi tether app from the market to work...using gnex cdma, set your device profile to generic ics.
Sent from my SPH-L710 using Xparent ICS Tapatalk 2
So after a while I ran into a post a couple of months ago about how tethering on ics was possible using svtp version and setting the device to samsung for some odd reason. Now that the new update is out I have been telling my buddy not to update until we knew there was a definite way to keep on tethering wirelessly.
So is there? Noticed Foxfi won't work from what I read.
That solution only worked on ICS...
This works on JB

I can confirm this works and broadcasts in infrastructure mode.

Has anyone tested this with stock 4.4.2 rooted with towel? Else i am looking for a good wifi tethering app. this worked great with 4.3

Do you know if any of these hacks works with Cricket? That's my service, and I'm forbidden to tether or get shut off. I don't want to tether to download stuff, just browse the web on my Note 10.1. Tia

I am not sure if this option is available for Stock.

Did you find out if Tethering provision works on 4.4.2 yet?
I just wanted to share my most recent experience with this. I used this method earlier this year to tether and it has worked great until now. I just received a letter from AT&T informing me that I must remove all tethering apps, which I had no other except this apk in place, or they would upgrade my plan to a tethering plan at the end of this month. It appears AT&T found a way to track this method, or they are assuming tethering is taking place due to high data usage during the last billing cycle.
I just wanted to share my experience and thank everyone for the help, it was great while it lasted!

Not working. i believe AT&T N4 is not a supported model.
FoxFi doesn't work on Note 4. Tried it.
Only WiFi Tether Router works that I know. You need root to use it, but once the WiFi router is on, you can lose root and the router still works until you turn it off.

Doesn't work on ATT Note 4 Kit Kat 4.4.4.
You get the ATT error message saying your device is not setup for WiFi Tethering.
I have read that it is no longer possible to roll back Lollipop to Kit Kat on the AT&T Note 4. Is this correct? I have also read that I could attain tether in temporary root with xposed framework or various apps and it will maintain when root is lost after reboot.
Sorry if this is a noob question but is there a known way to get hotspot provisioning turned off for Note 4 Dev Ed? Thanks in advance!
What exactly are you asking?
I would like to use the mobile hotspot for free with my unlimited data
As far as I know it's unlocked. They no longer can charge for it. It's built in. I have used it. But I am not on unlimited data. If you can't use the pre-installed app then download on from the playstore.

Have been unable to connect since last night. It appears Verizon rolled out a silent update disabling it on multiple devices. Read the most recent FoxFi reviews in the Play Store for several other accounts of this. Anyone else know of a solution?

Verizon threw in a silent update last night. All of us unlimited data users got screwed. If you look at the reviews for the app, everyone from our carrier is having the same problem. I've been looking for another app to change to that will do that same thing. No luck so far. Sucks, since I've been using Foxfi for years and it always worked like a champ.
