[Q] S3 had a total breakdown. - AT&T, Rogers, Bell, Telus Samsung Galaxy S III

For the past 3 days i've gone through hell and back with this phone.
To start off I rooted the phone, and that was working fine, my buddy was downloading something (idek what it is and I have no way to get ahold of him to ask him) and after that it busted. Then I somehow deleted my whole operating system.
Since then I have downloaded a 4.3 stock rom (os?) and I have successfully unbricked my phone. Now I have no service, and i'm 99% sure it's because all of my IMEI things are unknown. Now I figure that is an easy fix by downloading a modem?
Before I look into fixing my IMEI problems I would like to get back to 4.4.2 (Kit-Kat I think it was?)
I've downloaded countless ROMs, IMG files (converted to tar.md5), and many versions of Odin.
I've messed with Samsung Kies but I can just tell that this is a garbage program, and I have no clue what i'm doing.
What i'm asking here is help to getting me back to stock 4.4.2 (WITHOUT A ROOT) and possibly fix my IMEI problem and the problem I can't get 3g/mobile data working (snapchat/instagram did not work) (APN maybe?) (I haven't looked into these problems yet, could be super hard, could be fairly easy)
Samsung Galaxy S3 AT&T SGH-i747 is the phone i'm currently working with.
The last thing I tried to do is flash with a boot.tar.md5 and system.tar.md5, it did NOT work, as I was not sure where to put those files at in odin. Boot = Bootloader and System = AP/PDA?
Sorry if I come off as a complete noob, this is literally last resort for me (I've been doing this for 3 days....) as I can probably suspect you guys are very tired of all of these help requests.
Thank you to everybody who reads this, and am looking forward to having a normal phone again.
Edit: First post here

Does the phone boot into download mode? Sounds like it does since you can use Odin.
To get the phone running, copy the latest cm11 or cm 12 to an sd card, copy cm11 Gapps or cm12 Gapps (download the version that matches the ROM you intend to flash), flash a custom recovery (I prefer CWM for the d2lte or Philz Touch for the d2lte), boot into recovery, do a full wipe, flash cm, flash Gapps, boot the phone.

sick thanks for the response homie.
i'm not exactly sure which CM to download, I went to the d2ltes since that's the closest thing to my device I found in that list.
I also went to cwm rom managers and downloaded the recovery setup, i'm guessing I convert that and flash it using odin and voila, I have cwm?
and for the cm11 gapps I went to this website and downloaded the zip file, going to just put that on my sd card with the CM (when I figure out which one to download)
am I headed in the right direction?
edit: okay I got cwm recovery on my phone... thats good
edit 2: alright downloading cm12 and alreayd have cmgapps in a zip ready to be put in my sd card. i'll let you know how installing it with cwm goes. thank you for your help man I really appreciate it.
edit 3: how would I go about installing it via owm? everytime I install from sd card it resets my phone, just go back into recovery and install the second zip? or is there a way I can install both at once?

Boot into cwm, wipe cache, wipe data, wipe dalvik, install cm1 from sd card, install gapps, reboot.
The i747 is also known as the d2lte so anything designed for the d2lte is good.

alright! couldn't thank you enough. like I said i'll keep you updated!
edit: i'm in the cwm recovery or w.e and there is a different keyboard as i'm doing this, does this transfer over to be my real keyboard after the cwm recovery stuff? if not, how do I get this keyboard?
edit 2: wow this is totally different, sick.. let me play around with it, i'm sure i'll have some questions.

alright, phone number is still not available, imei and imei sv is still not available, same with everything in the SIM status.
going to try and find a modem for my model.
no luck so far, if someone could help search for a MODEM for SGH-i747 AT&T s3 that would be great..
sorry for being so needy.. thanks for hanging in here and helping me out.
edit: I found this link but it's for 4.4.2... it says do not use it if you're on 4.3.... is it okay if i'm at like 5.1.1 cwm?
well, I cannot post the link and I do not want to find a way around to post the link incase a mod shuts this thread down. if you want the link you may PM me..
edit 2: okay so google play services does NOT work, and I need that in order to open skype.. so that's on another thing on the list of **** to fix. However I just downloaded an apk and I need to put it in system/apps but i'm not sure where to find that... i'll probably end up downloading it on the phone and dropping it in with a file manager.
edit 3: none of this worked, I still need google play services to get installed..

Does the phone boot to the desktop? Which rom did his try? Try the latest cm10.2 for the d2lte.
Are you able to install a terminal app or Samsung phone info app?
Try and find the apk version of the app and just install it from the file browser.

It tells me "It cannot be installed". I will find 10.2 for d2lte... assuming I find the corresponding GApps.
I also could have ran all of the other google apps... "google +, playstore, youtube, etc"
edit: I cannot find cm 10.2, lowest I can find for d2lte is 11. should I try that instead?

These are all the zips i'm installing with cwm when I wipe/reset my phone totally:
Calkulin's Google Play Service modded (so google play services works)
cm-11
gapps-kk-20140606
and I am currently messing with modem files to get my service back, i'm about to try my second one.. wish me luck!
edit: I can't get my baseband model to show, nor my imei numbers to come, they all stay unknown.. if someone would like to do some sort of 1 on 1 that would be awesome.

You could also try the cm for the d2att.

trying it now! should I use a specific gapps? maybe for 5.1.1? cause 12.1 uses 5.1.1 if i'm not mistaken.

There are separate gapps for cm10.2, cm11, and cm12.
It sounds to me like there is a problem with the modem and bootloader combination on the phone.
What specific bootloader version is on the phone?

so after I download cm12.1 and cm12gapps, I should look further into the bootloader/modem problem?
i've tried a few modems for i747 and i've had no luck so far unfortunately, if someone else reading this has had experience or knows someone who has experiences null baseband / imei numbers let me know!
edit: oops, my mistake.. just saw the last part of your post now. i'm not sure how to find out my bootloader.

Use the terminal app and type getprop ro.bootloader.

Alright I've now figured out that I do NOT have ANY efs files for samsung galaxy I747UCUFNJ1.
I have the imei number from the back of my phone.
I tried the EFS pro method and when I click "backup" an error pops up and says "Block device does NOT exist"
I'm so confused and I need help lol

wow, I fixed it! I installed the correct modem corresponding to my baseband / bootloader something like that.. wow. most stressful 4 days of my life
ty so much

Glad you got it working. This is why I kept asking about the modem and suggesting that the modem doesn't match the bootloader.

[Q] galaxy s3 i747m ROGERS to jelly bean cm10

hey guys
let me start off by saying i am a noob to this site and android in general , ive learnt a lot from my galaxy s2 .
now i got the s3 , ive rooted it .. however i tried to upgrade to 4.1 awhile back . kept getting error .
anyways i want to upgrade to jellybean im sick of waiting like everyone else.
cm10 seems like a good rom , ive read a lot on this forum, could some one tell me what the first step is do i flash cwm first on the rogers stock or do i have to put ATT stock on it
thanks
cheers
Hi!
Welcome to the site! You'll really love the community here!
Here are some simple instructions I found for you: http://www.androidauthority.com/gal...elly-bean-cyanogenmod-10-cm10-preview-104742/
Just make sure you download the latest CWM from here (6.0.1.2 currently): http://download2.clockworkmod.com/recoveries/recovery-clockwork-6.0.1.2-d2att.img
And flash it to your device.
Then follow those steps, wipe/format data partition, as it says there. CAREFUL make sure you download the latest CyanogenMod version from here too, the top one on the list is always newest, latest version came out today actually: http://get.cm/?device=d2att
Let me know how it goes and if you're enjoying it! Tried leaked version of JB on my S3 with Telus in Canada and didn't like the bugs in there...so let me know if the 'CM Finishing Touch' on there is really better than stock!
Michael
thanks man. i will give it a try soon and let you know..
so just i get this straight i can do everything from my rogers stock rom right .. i dont have to download the att stock rom ??

Yup! Start off with CWM Recovery flash, when that's done, transfer file to device (internal sd card) and from the ROGERS stock rom you can do the apply update from zip option in CWM.

should i take off auto reboot then take out battery... i remember doing this when i rooted the phone . i think...
oh and for rom manager i cannot find my phone on the list , there isn't any galaxy s3 on it weird?
Hmm...weird. Guess it doesn't support the extra-super-duper-phone yet! Haha!
If you get the SGS3 All-in-one toolkit from here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1703488 , you can install CWM from it just make sure you have drivers installed, it can help you with that if you don't have them, and enable USB Debugging.
If that doesn't work, which I think it should, try to use this link a bit. Download the version they have it should be pretty recent.

Oh so now you have CWM? Well as long as you have it, you'll only need it once or twice to erase all data, then install CM and GApps.
Ill try it with the cwm from the superuser one but I remember doing that it said error 9 or something

Quick question, I flashed CWM recovery using the terminal, and I see it when I boot into recovery, but when I go to ROM Manager to flash CM10, it says to flash CWM Recovery, and won't let me access the list. I would've flashed CWM from ROM Manager, but the S3 wasn't on the list of devices. Is there anyway to get around this?

Hi there!
Basically you must first but the CWM ZIP file on your internal sdcard then boot into CWM, from there go to install zip file or something like that, then select from SD Card, find the zip, you're done!
Don't forget to do a factory reset through CWM before the CM10 update and maybe after too.
Let me how it goes,
Michael
Never liked CWM, I personally love TWRP as a recovery. Go to the app store and download GooManager.

But don't I already have CWM? Or is CWM and CWM Recovery two different things? Where would I get the CWM .zip for my rogers phone? I backed up my phone from recovery mode, does that mean I backed up my current ROM (stock rooted ROM)? And I backed up a few apps using Titanium Backup, if I use factory reset, would all my backups get erased? Thanks for your help!

Hi,
CWM = CWM Recovery; same thing just shorter .
The ZIP file for your rogers phone can be found here: http://get.cm/?device=d2att
Click the one at the top of the list as it is the newest.
Don't worry about the ROM because worst case scenario if you want to downgrade to stock, you can re-download it online and re-root.
For the apps, it depends where your backups are, usually, in TitBak, the backups are stored in /sdcard/TitaniumBackup which will be safe as formatting to factory settings and data partition in CWM doesn't format the internal or external SD Card. But I am not responsable if it does so be careful!

You can update it, I don't see what could go wrong because an update will only help fix things if there were bugs you had.
Okay, thanks! I'm going to use this <http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1587607> guide to flash the cm ROM. But say afterwords, I want to unroot and remove the 'Modified' status of my phone, and return back to the stock ROM like nothing happened, and remove the flash counter. How would I do that?

That would be with Odin you would redownload the Stock ROM for Rogers and then flash it. To reset counter, you can download the app TriangleAway for free from the Play Store and with root, it resets the counter. Then you can unroot.

[Q] Can't get LiquidSmooth v2.5 OFFICIAL to load on my Sprint phone

I am trying to get this ROM installed on my Sprint S3: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2148306. My phone is rooted and I have TWRP 2.5.0.0 installed. When I download the file on my pc and transfer it to my phone, I boot into recovery, wipe the data as recommended (already did a backup), and when I try to install, it says "Failed". I can get some other ROMS to work (Goodness, etc.) but this one I can't. The file name is Liquid-JB-v2.5-OFFICIAL-d2spr.zip. Any ideas as to where to start? I can't post in that ROM thread because I don't have more than 10 posts.
Any help is greatly appreciated!

It's either a bad download like evoer said, but more likely it's the firmware you're on. Starting with v2.5, you need to be on MD4 before you can flash the Rom. It'll fail otherwise.
The best way to get on MD4 is to go over the Freeza's Stock Rooted Rom thread and grab the MD4 Firmware update zip:
MD4 Firmware:
MD4 Firmware/modem/baseband update
MD5: EEEAFDBE59CF9C5B492B1A591EC92D02

The filename should be: Galaxy-S-fre3-MD4FirmwareModemAIO.zip
Just boot into recovery and flash this zip. Restart your phone and verify in Settings - about phone that the baseband ends with "MD4." Then reboot into recovery and flash LiquidSmooth like normal.
Let me know if you have any more problems.

[Q] Having trouble with the I747M and ROMs.

Alright so I'm new at this and haven't managed to brick my phone yet so that's a good sign.
As far as I've learned the process is Root>Recovery>Rom Flash, at least generally.
I rooted it successfully, but when I try to install recovery with ROM Manager it lists only one S3 with a bracketed cell phone provider I don't think I have. So I ditched CWM and went to Goo Manager but when I try to install that, it just hangs on some download page telling me its about to start.
So I'm going to assume the recovery thing is pretty easy to sort out and move on to my next question.
My S3 is unlocked, but I am under Koodo, which is an extension of Telus. My phone model is a I747M, not an I747. As far as I can see they are identical in hardware and software, but I'm really wondering what ROMs I can install. I've researched but didn't find much, and I don't want to blindly flash a i747 rom onto a potentially different phone, and risk anything.
Oh and PS any ROM with the vanilla android (like on the google phones) will do.
Thanks.

Hello Noob (I mean that kindly, I used to be one)
I'll help you with what ever you need. I'm Canadian and on Bell i747M. Feel free to ask me any questions and I'll reply as soon as I can. Hopefully I wont be too confusing. I'll just try to break down all your questions in a point form.
First, i747 and i747M are almost identical. With the latest 4.3 ROMS there are differences in the bootloader that will make data not work on your phone. For now, stay away from any stock 4.3 ROM. AOSP ROMs (CM10, Task650) are fine.
Recovery: Through Rom Manager you will want to download the recovery titled "Samsung Galaxy S3 (ATT) " The AT&T version of the S3 is commonly shown as D2ATT(i747). This recovery will work for you. I have had a problem with TWRP myself recently being stuck on the download page. There is another way to install TWRP, but it is a bit more difficult. Try CWM first and if you like I will give you instructions for TWRP.
ROMs: If you want the most common and most stable Vanilla ROMs for your phone you are gonna want Cyanogenmod or Task's ROM. They are very similar with a few different features. Beware, if you ask questions in Task's thread you will be told it is an ATT ROM only. It does work on the i747M though.

Awesome, I appreciate the writeup. So I flashed recovery successfully (ROM Manager doesn't seem to have d2att anymore so I used ODIN).
I'll probably go for Cyanogen mod tommorow, I'll post again if I have any questions.
Thanks.

CM is a good ROM. There should soon be Kitkat versions available. You will be seeing nightly updates when it does come around. Before you start flashing, you should learn what a 'Nandroid' is. You can take a Nandroid backup in CWM or TWRP. Always save these to an External SD card. If anything ever goes wrong with your ROM, you can just re flash the Nandroid backup and be back to where you were the day you did the backup. The farther you get into flashing the more likely you will need these. Before doing your first Flash, do an Nandroid and copy your photops and stuff off of the phone. When jumping between Stock and AOSP roms, you will need to do a full wipe and will lose what you have not backed up. Be sure to sync contacts to Google....this is the one that has screwed me the most.

Alright, so I have CWM v5.5.0.4, which from what I understand is pretty outdated. It was probably just me following an outdated guide and forgot to look up an updated version. Will I need to update of will it cause any problems? I already backed up my phone on 5.5.0.4 with Nandroid.
Also I feel like I'm misunderstanding the procedure of flashing a new rom. So I downloaded a cm-10.1.3 zip which is is the latest stable build on android 4.2.2. This has an .img inside so this is the rom. I use CWM to flash this onto my phone correct? (Once I figure out if I need to update CWM)
Lastly whats the deal with Gapps? I downloaded the CM Gapps for 10.1 from their wiki. Is this the only way to get Gmail, Maps, and the Google Play Store onto the phone?
From what I understand I think I can just use odin to flash, correct? If so I'd probably prefer that because its the most familiar and noob friendly.

I wouldn't use Odin. It really will only become necessary if you want to flash back to complete stock.
You do want the latest version of CWM installed or you will run into problems flashing. You can get this 2 ways.
1: through Rom Manager. You will find your specific CWM with these steps. a-Recovery Setup b-ClockworkMod Recovery c-Hit menu button to left of home and pick 'Show All Devices' d- Here scroll until you get 'Samsung Galaxy S3 (AT&T)' D2ATT. e- Click Flash ClockworkMod Recovery. Allow permissions for root. Ignore the touch option unless you want to pay for it. I can teach you the free way.
You will now have the latest CWM
You can download the latest CM-10.2, it is in release candidate stage and is extremely stable. They have been working on it for months. It will give you 4.3 (The good kind, not the one I warned against). After downloading a ROM, you leave it zipped exactly like it is. Do not extract it, just move it to your SD card. You will also want Gapps. Gapps is necessary because it is Google's own software that is legally not allowed to be built into ROMs. It must be installed separately. You can find those here. They help you know which to use with chart depending on which Cyanogen you use http://wiki.cyanogenmod.org/w/Gapps. Again just move the zip over to your internal.
With these 2 zips transferred to your phone you are ready to start. Before you do, make sure you have transferred all your pics and stuff off of the phone. Also be sure to save your contacts. You can now boot into recovery. You should notice recovery version 6.0.4.3. Volume button scrolls menu, Power button selects. You will want to do a Nandroid backup in case anything goes wrong. I know you did one with CWM 5.5 but should do another just to be sure it is with current CWM. You can delete the other one later.
Goto - backup and restore
Goto - backup to external or /storage/sdcard1 (i put both because im already on 4.4 and may have different menu than you.
Let this work and when done continue to flashing ROM
Go to 'choose zip from /sdcard'
Select CM-10-xxxxxxx.zip
After this completes you will do the same with Gapps.zip
After completion of both files you will need to factory reset your phone. Flashing AOSP over Stock will cause boot loops if you do not.
Go back to CWM main menu and select wipe data/factore reset
After completing this go to wipe cache partition and select this.
Finally you want to wipe Dalvik cache. you will find this in CWM under main menu /advanced/wipe dalvik cache.
Upon completion of this you should have CM10 4.3 running. Just exit CWM reboot phone and when booted follow setup instructions.
Let me know if you get stuck somewhere.

Alright cool. So through Mod Manager, there was not d2att, there was only S3(Metro PCS) which I thought was a bit odd. I found a way to flash an updated recovery via terminal emulator so that went well.
And your steps were very well written and concise. I'm now running CM without a problem.
Thanks for your help!

Cool terminal emulator was that other way to do it. Hope all is well for you with this. Welcome to flashing. As another tip, if you are going to flash a lot, there is an app called Titanium backup that is well worth the $5 it costs. It saves all your apps and data and after a clean wipe you can just reinstall all your apps in one step. For example after a wipe you will not lose your Angry Birds levels if you restore your titanium data. It's worth a look.

Samsung GS3 (d2att) not booting but have TWRP Recovery available

Hello all-
I was just recently running CM 10.2 RC1 but had to do an install of the correct gapps as it was randomly rebooting. Well the device now is stuck on the Samsung Galaxy S3 screen with the BLUE cyanogen. I have access to TWRP and am able to reflash the .zip file for CM 10.2 RC1 yet it still won't boot? I did the wipe of dalvik, cache, data and system but still no luck? The device is NOT recognized in Odin. I just want to get the phone up and running again, even if it means root is lost.
Please help!!

Do you have it put into Download Mode before you plug it into the computer for Odin to recognize it? If I had it plugged in before I put mine in download mode Odin would not want to pick it up.'

Yes it is recognized once in Download mode...sorry about that. What can I do to get it up and running? I am not new to flashing, etc so it's got me really upset that I cant get it to boot. What could possibly go wrong?
Get a sd card>download a new rom and put the rom in the sd card and flash like a normal ROM
http://fs1.d-h.st/download/00023/E5R/I747UCDLK3_I747ATTDLK3_I747UCDLK3_HOME.tar.md5 You can download that file and put it in the PDA section once you run Odin and run it from there. This will put your phone back to the Stock Rom 4.1.1 and you can restart from there if you want.

I do have an sd card. Phone isn't recognized in Windows so Im not familiar with how I can get the ROM file onto the card from the computer? Can I download the latest AT&T Stock ROM and flash it via Odin?
What your saying is flash a ROM from the external SD card?

No, with the file I told you to download you do not need to have a SD card because you can't boot into the rom you have Windows will not recognize the phone like normal to drag and drop to it. So with this file you can save it to your computer, Open Odin, put your phone into Download Mode, plug it into the computer so that Odin detects it. Then Click PDA and browse to the file you downloaded and tell it to use that file and then Run the process and it will install the original rom onto your phone.

Can you get into recovery mode by any chance? If you can do that then it should be possible to do a factory reset from within Recovery Mode and possibly get you past the boot screen. If that doesn't help let me know and I will see what else I can find out for you. Also what all did you have checked and unchecked when you Ran Odin to reinstall the Stock Rom? If you had any of them other than Auto-Reboot on that may also have caused a problem http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1722686 here is a forum that will show you how to use Odin. I apologize for not remembering about telling you what to check and uncheck. But try recovery mode first and do a factory reset and if that does not work, redo the odin install this time only having Auto-Reboot checked.

Thanks man! I went back into Recovery and did a factory reset/wipe data and it finally got past that screen. Thanks again for your guidance and help. Any ideas as to what could have possibly caused the issue in the first place? I do want to re-root the device again and I am assuming my best bet is to flash a Stock ROM like you referenced with ROOT injected? What order should I follow, flashing a Stock w/Root injected...and then the Recovery of choice? Or vice-versa? What do you recommend?
Again, your timely responses were greatly appreciated. Was really worried I would have to take it to ATT.

It could have been several things that could cause the ROM to do that. I recommend that you make sure that your Bootloader is up to date and then go from there. Download the newest CWM, do a backup of your current rom so that you can flash back to it if you phone messes up. Then when you try to install a new ROM make sure you Wipe: Data then Cache, then Dalvik Cache in Advanced then Format /System. Then from there Install the new Rom, then install the correct GApps, then wipe Cache and Dalvik cache then Reboot into System. It takes messing up a few times to get it right but as long as you follow the guides pretty close and keep a good backup that you know works or keep the knowledge of how to Inject the Stock Rom to your phone when it messes up you shouldn't have much to worry about.

Thanks for the information. The phone that has been all screwed up and the reason I posted a thread in the first place is my gf's GS3. I have her's rooted again and running. I am going to update her baseband version and then install a custom ROM so she's up to 4.3.1. As far as mine goes, I have been fine. I myself also still have the outdated bootloader version. Is it ok to just flash that update for the bootloader without it doing anything wrong? I'm asking this since I'm rooted and running a custom ROM with no current problems. In other words, I don't want to end up saying "it wasn't broke, why did I mess with it" ? I did bookmark that thread you referenced in your last message. Damn that thread is LOADED with just about everything one would possibly need to know about Android and making it their own.
So my g/f accepted the OTA update today (not knowing obviously) and she got updated to 4.3 via AT&T, unfortunately!! I attempted to flash the latest Liquid Smooth ROM and I continue to get a FAILED message during installation. It mentions a bunch of bootloader numbers ( I am assuming the only ones this ROM is compatible with?) So is there any way to roll the bootloader back to a compatible one or just go a different route for the custom ROM?
Also, I attempted flashing the file to update my baseband yet when I so into the device, it doesn't show as having the updated version? Is there a different way of doing it or maybe a different file?
I'm not to sure about the troubles that may come about since your gf went with the 4.3 OTA but If I am not mistaken it will need to be downgraded before you try doing anything else to it and if it is not showing that you updated your bootloader on your phone I recommend grabbing the App called Root Checker to double check then look for another file, tho unless it failed it should have updated it or messed up your phone one.

[Q] Multiple problems after flashing Stock

Hello everyone,
After a long fight to try and get this phone back to normal, everything seemed good,
except not really
I started on a buggy CM11 version. Sick of it, I downloaded a 4.4.4 stock rom. I had to disable firewall and defender, but I got Odin to flash my md5. I got through everything and it booted successfully. After signing in and all that jazz, I find out that my WiFi isn't working. After a few reboots, My 4G finally works and everything seems to be steady.
Then, after exploring the rest of the phone I find out that all my apps from last ROM are still there. I know that you are supposed to wipe before flashing, but I was told that Odin will take care of that. It obviously didn't.
After THAT, I try to boot into Recovery as the next sensible step is to try to wipe my data and cache. I turn the phone off and press (Vol up + Home + Pwr) and the first boot screen shows for a moment. It says in blue "RECOVERY BOOTING" in the corner. Right after, it disappears and in another second it does the same screen without the "RECOVERY BOOTING". And as presumed, it does a regular boot.
What did I miss? How can I wipe my phone from recovery? How can I fix my problem with Wifi?
Reflash in Odin.
Make sure you have the correct stock rom. If you flash the "md5" you may have flashed the wrong thing. The md5 is not tge firmware, that is just the code that verifies your firmware file is not corrupted.
If your old apps were still there, you flashed the wrong thing. There is no way to flash stock firmware in odin and not wipe the data partition.
You are correct then
Yeah, I flashed a tar.md5 in Odin. It gave me a new ROM but all my apps are there. After all that, I still can't go to recovery. I tried using the terminal and ROM Toolbox to go there, both didn't work. Can I just leave it as it is and find a way to recovery or is the only way to go to bootloader and flash a correct file to get to recovery?
Flash twrp and see if it will reboot into recovery, then factory reset and flash latest firmware with Odin right after. Odin will NOT wipe data. It has to be done manually

It depends on what you ate flashing.
If you are flashing a full stock factory image it will wipe user data. If you are just flashing a system partition it won't.

The first post of any customized stock rom will tell you if its deodexed. If it doesn't say it...its not.
@Essem G:
Any updates for us? I'm following this thread because I have similar problems with my WiFi not working after upgrading from 4.2.2.
Any luck getting TWRP flashed?
Also I believe that the stock firmwares do come as tar.md5's, as in the file: M919UVUFNK2_M919TMBFNK2_M919UVUFNK2_HOME.tar.md5 from ShinySide's stock firmware thread.
As for the WiFi issue, from the hours of reading I've done it looks like this problem occurs when you upgrade your firmware, but it no longer matches the bootloader. Such as bootloader (Baseband) showing MDL, but Build Number showing NH7, NK2, etc. What does your show?
This thread may be of use to you when you get back to a working ROM. Good luck!

Everyone has been saying different answers and i've put off fixing my device for a while. I'm just afraid i'll brick it forever and have another nightmare after this current one. So no, there has been no progress. I think i'm gonna try to flash Philz and format my system, then flash a deodexed rom. @g7755725 said that you can flash TWRP, but I usually use Philz. It appears to be that I have lost root access because no root features work and SuperSU won't recognize it. Will everything work or am I setting my self up for disaster?
