Vision L - Cyanogen 12.1 port development - G2 and Desire Z Android Development

Curious?
So are we, because we have a vision ahead for the Vision in our palms... and that vision is called "L". The Vision L...
Still curious?
Help us make that vision true and let us all see the Android L on our HTC Vision smarties
Current Status: We are trying hard to bring Vision L to life, but we are still facing some wierd errors when installing. I am trying to hunt them down as we speak. Hopefuly you'll not have to wait for too much longer for a successful build.

So the results of testing?? how much unstable it is??

It's in the first message :
"Current Status: We have first build finnished without errors, but it failed on install attempt, at this very moment another compilation is started to check if the error was fixed "

i know that just wanted to know some 1st impressions thats all i know it will have to go a long way to be near ready and usable...

Not using DZ as main device but looking forward to this.

It's really nice to see developers working on Desire Z to get this decent piece of hardware an up-to-date Android. Looking forward to testing it.

Very interesting in reborn my desire z. It's a great machine

this is great hardware, a great phone.
How are you coping with the small size of the internal flash? Does the typical L build even fit?
Have you been able to find all the device drivers for the hardware?
will you try to use the apps-to-sd framework?
curious what errors are appearing at install time

Exciting news! Would be so cool to see 12.1 on the G2. Got mine charged and ready.

Oh boy oh boy oh boy!!!!!
I can't wait to see this happening! please don't give up! :fingers-crossed:

It would be awesome to see 12.1 on here! Best of luck and let us know if you get hung up on anything.

@a.s.j
Can you share the lunch configuration for vision? Do you have some patches for this cm 12.1 version? I would also like to contribute. And what's the status of ART in cm?

All the sources are in the GitHub (see the signature)... I am sorry, for being out for a while, my shoulder was dislocated, so I was not able to do anything... I'll dive into it again now...

Shoulder !! outch!!
"Tour de France" syndrom?

Yes, I've downloaded the sources, but I can't lunch arm-cm_vision-userdebug to build the image. Do you have some patches for that?

The ROM don't want us xD I've been submitted a operation so i'm off for a while too xD

Seems like some CM update broke the build... I have to check it out...

Short answer: yes. I'm going to try grabbing the relevant code from MWisBest's githib. If it turns out to be too involved for my limited skills, it will have to wait until Ziyan submits the changes to CM.

OK I am going to be on board with testing for sure. I left a post in the now no longer current official thread that I flashed the last official build yesterday and I had perfect 3G to LTE to 3G handoff, rock solid WiFi strength, basically everything seemed to work very well. I am looking forward to seeing how things progress. I haven't been able to keep any of the official CM builds from bootlooping until now. Hopefully you stick with it because I am getting better performance from this device than I have seen in a long while

I should've had a machete to hack through the jungle of build errors from pulling a modified OmniROM device tree into a CyanogenMod build. Looks like the build is rolling now though, with any luck it might just complete successfully - who knows, it might even boot.
The only thing slower around here than me is my poor old computer.
Its kind of ironic that the Galaxy Nexus was the first official LTE device for Sprint and I am only just recently starting to get LTE on a semi regular basis.
@musical_chairs, take your time with your builds. I assure you that they are appreciated. Now that this device is actually getting decent (for Sprint) signal and still has current builds makes it more enjoyable to use than just about any time I can remember....I just miss Imoseyon's Lean kernels. I got GREAT battery on those. They were compiled in the now deceased (I think) CMRemix ROMs but the LTE is definitely a plus
Update: For now, I have stopped working on building CyanogenMod with the DDK 1.9 drivers. I was ending up with a completely unsustainable mess of a device tree, and was still running into build errors. If new drivers are what you want, use FML. I'll focus on keeping the regular CM builds updated for the time being.

Thanks for trying anyhow. I'm glad cm11 still has a fighting chance with the GNex, thanks to you, and all the others who are able to help out.
We're all waiting for cm12 to get to a buildable state. In the meantime, I've been working on upgrading my build box. My old machine was just barely capable of building android, the 'new' one isn't new but it was a real beast in its day. Time for a clean build has dropped from a day and a half to two and a half hours. I'm happy...

just curious, how difficult is it to compile roms? Do you need to know how to write your own code or is it over glorified copy and pasting with packages and stuff?

I do a lot of copying and pasting, a lot of reading guides, and a whole lot of google-ing. I don't know how to write my own code, but I have lots of experience with applying patches. Compiling roms is not that hard if you're a Linux user, have a working knowledge of the command line, and have a basic understanding of git. Take away any one of those things and it becomes a whole lot harder.
jd14771 said:
Yeah i haven't gotten to play with linux, nor do i know what git's are (i think they are large batch's of code posted in plain text?) . always wanted to try but don't have the time.

git is the software the devs use to keep track of changes in the code. Most Android devs have their git repositories on Github, those are probably what you are thinking of. Every little change (called a 'commit') has its own unique hash number. It's pretty amazing, you can look through somebody else's commits and find one that fixes a bug you are working on, or split tens of thousands of changes in half, then in half again, then in half again, etc., and pinpoint the exact commit that causes a bug on your system - though that's more useful in Linux kernel development than in Android.
I don't really have the time either, but it's such a fun hobby...
Using quickboot?
Coming from Vanir. Really like the facility quickboot gives. Anyone "enabled" it? I can't seem actually show the field to turn it on. Settings search finds it, but that's it... Noticed Dev options is hidden also. What's up?
Props for keeping CM11 updated. Really like I can actually use SMS in Hangouts.
I haven't been following the nightly changes since toroplus went dark, but I ran a build today--nothing special, just the latest cm...whatever changes they are. I could post it but don't know if I should make another thread or just link to it in here.
Anything substantial get added to general cm in the last few months?
I tried to run a build of cm12 but it looks like things still aren't ready for building yet, either that or I'm not sure how to switch back and forth between the cm11 repo and cm12 without getting repo update errors.

I got cm12 built and booting for toro for the first time today. I'm trying to get mobile data working on that, then I'll give toroplus a shot. Looks like it shouldn't be too much trouble. Feel free to post any of your builds here, or start your own thread if you prefer.
Here's my cm11 build from yesterday--equivalent to a plain nightly. It's been running fine since I dirty flashed it last night. Md5sum is linked as well and noted below.

Well I got cm12 built and booting on toroplus, unfortunately the RIL is completely borked, so no cell service at all at this point. I'll keep working on that, in the mean time check out the updated cm11 build in the post right above this one.

[DEV][WIP]Sailfish OS Port - Alpha 2

I heard at devcon that a few guys are working on Sailfish ports for a few phones, including ours. So I decided to get them together with the devs here on the forum to get the port done. The place where the developers and porters of Sailfish OS are talking to each other is on freenode, so if you want to help them... just go there and join the channel #sailfishos-porters.
Warning: This is a developement project. So please only join the channel if you really want to help. Just going there to ask for ETAs or stuff like that won' t be tolerated. Also this thread should be a place for developers to collect ideas and fix bugs, not for the purpose of asking for ETAs. Please keep that in mind.
For the initial port I would like to thank @vgrade; information on how to install the port are in second post!

This is a community port of Jolla's Sailfish OS for the OnePlus One.
It features a gesture-based user interface with a unique design and ease-of-use in mind.
For more information about SailfishOS please head over to sailfishos.org.
This is not an Android ROM, this is a different base of an operating system called Linux, running glibc library.
It only uses parts of Android for hardware enabling (drivers).
Release Notes:
The port is considered to be of alpha quality and released as a first step to the same levels of functionality as the Nexus 5 .

That's just a followup from vgrades tweet, so nothing new. The information that he will share the build after MWC is down in the comments...
Guys Hi
As you see great progress made during MWC week on the port. Stskeeps from Jolla identified the bug stoppng UI coming up so we are go now.
Good to see the chase up on Multirom as this makes it easier for folks to test. I think it just needs to have a build which includes the sailfish patches included so any recent upstream build should suffice. On the add room page you should see a SailfishOs radio button.
Stay tuned for more details and drop into #sailfishos-poters channel on freenode IRC and say hello.

03/04 [ROM] Unofficial CM13 Nightlies d2att Android 6.0.1 Marshmallow

Update: I'm compiling builds again!!! I'll try to do them nightly as always

I got the network issue fixed by setting up themuppets with an edit to roomservice.xml (before, I just used the extract-files.sh and connected my phone lol)
I just got a build error:
make: *** [/home/arunscape/cm13/out/target/product/d2att/obj/EXECUTABLES/recovery_intermediates/LINKED/recovery] Error 1
make: Leaving directory '/home/arunscape/cm13'
#### make failed to build some targets (01:39:11 (hh:mm:ss)) ####
It looks like something's wrong with the recovery?
update: my source code got all messed up after a power loss while compiling the rom, so I just deleted the source and redownloaded the entire source again..
I am really excited to see another dev (even if you are a n00b) building cm13 for the s3. Thanks a bunch. I can't wait to try it ... Probably will flash tonight waiting for the ball to drop. Do you see flaky cellular data in your builds?

Hey man, I've been super duper slammed with work but I just wanted to drop in & say kudos! Glad you got the builds rolling & the sim issue fixed. I'll be following your progress. Oh, and Happy new year! ?
Thanks for your support! Also I resolved the issue with the build errors that I was getting! Turns out that the entire source code gets messed up if you lose power in the middle of compiling a build...
I will post a build for January 2 soon! (though I haven't tested it yet.. I'll report back when I have flashed it.)

So for folks who are using this, how's it working? Anybody finding bugs/issues? Thinking about making the jump from CM12 but need something stable..
so It's been a while since my last upload but I got one coming!

If you want something more reliable, try matrixzone's ROM but I haven't seen any differences between our builds. Also, it's been a long time since he has updated his ROM http://forum.xda-developers.com/galaxy-s3-att/development/unofficial-cyanogenmod-12-t2968854
I am currently running the builds that I am building on my daily driver and they seem to be working fine
I'm coming back to the S3 after a year with a OnePlus, so there's a good chance I've missed something important.
The CM12 nightlies work just fine, but I can't get either this version of CM13 or the matrixzone version to boot. I wipe everything, install ROM, OpenGapps, and SuperSU, wipe cache/dalvik, and reboot. It hangs on the boot screen for over an hour before I give up and shut it down.
Am I missing something? A new bootloader maybe?

Nevermind, it seems SuperSU was the problem. Booting fine without SuperSU.
SuperSU version. 2.66 works fine for me, but not the google play store version. You can get it here http://forum.xda-developers.com/apps/supersu/wip-android-6-0-marshmellow-t3219344/post64161125

Anyone using their S3 with Marshmallow as a DAP/Transport. Does the USB Audio work? I moved my LG Pad 7.0 to Marshmallow and the USB Audio doesn't work. So I am looking for another alternative. Any information would be great on the USB Audio status
baseband - IMEI - SN is missing with this rom...

Does the camera work with this build?

That's a part of the tutorial. If it doesn't work properly, you can try to skip it by tapping the corners of the screen from top left clockwise.

It's easy os system and very attractive to use them, hope for the new update very soon.
Great news!
When camera and browser will start working I'll try the port, till then... it's too much alpha for me
Thanks for the port!

You can use an unofficial browser like Webcat instead. Camera doesn't work yet though. I'll try to release a version with qtscenegraph-adaptation fixed soon (fixes black images).
Hello! Are you still working on this?

Hey! I've been kind of busy lately, but I was thinking about updating it recently. I can try to compile a new version if you want (hopefully including a fix for the pink screen issue).
That would be nice. Also a little status update is Glas
Thanks! But take your time, life's more important that alpha testing
BTW, is it possible to dual boot android and sailfish?

You can dualboot by modifying fstab in the kernel and recovery to point the /data and /system to sdcard.
But you need quick sdcard to not be totally unusable.
Status update time!
I'm setting up the build environment on my new laptop (it's been a while since I last messed around with SFOS...) New version should be coming soon™ (hopefully within a few days). Trying to build with a newer version of LineageOS as well, so we'll see if that works.
Yes please. Would love to see this working. There isn't enough new stuff out there for the G4 and this would be awesome.

Seems like I lost some of the files from the last time I got things working... I need to find out how I got sound working, since now it no longer works... I'll see if I can get it working again.
Awesome.

Personal Build Playground Moto G5 Plus

I'm creating this thread to post personal builds to those that want to try them. Just an FYI I'm choosing this approach instead opening numerous unoffical build threads because 1)I'm unsure how much time I'll be able to invest 2) I'm too much of a flashaholic to stay with one rom long enough to properly support it 3) I'm not a dev, I'm just someone with a linux laptop that enjoys putting pieces together. Also If anyone would like to share their builds or assist with others that want to learn to compile. (JUST PLEASE DO EVERYONE A FAVOR AND MAKE SURE THE ROM BOOTS FIRST AND ARE NOT GOING BRICK DEVICES ALONG WITH SOURCES)(BUGS are expected this is a newbie.....as in Me thread)
Note:
I used SuperSU for root on this rom with no problems what so ever, Mileage may very with those that use Magisk.
Maintaining of rom may be here nor there depending on if I grow tired of the rom and decide to go to bigger and better things or if time allows, so please don't expect or request updates......I'm doing this just to share my personal builds and hopefully spark interest with others.

Awesome :good: But why don't you create a thread in the Rom section? BTW What Linux distro are you running?

I'm running Ubuntu mate 16.04 at the moment but I hop distros from arch to fedora. And that kind of answers your other question, I'm to A.D.D to stick with one rom for long and I open a thread I'm committing to that rom. This is more or less a hobby for me and when get a chance I'll build but it doesn't happen very much between the kids and the girlfriend lol.

New build up in OP, ENJOY!
Hey thanks for sharing I'll test one out this weekend .
Cardinal Update is in the oven
Had a ittle bitty stump in the build but don't worry I made it up to you all by adding a couple of additional features
PS....why is it so quite in here?? Feels like I'm talking to myself.........this is a discussion/build form lol! crickets!!crickets!! crickets!! Believe me all I don't mind a little off topic as long as you keep it clean and nice and android focused. Just don't blow up the thread with screenshots or links
Soooooo........thinking about a rebase to another linux distro soon...any input on with one? Thinking Fedora because it's also a great distro for building on but I do miss Solus and Arch
Hi!! I'm that guy from g+ remember me?? The one asking for the cypher os build? Well I've come to ask again, sorry if that sounded a little rude.
No, but my DUDEE! I think cypher 5.0 sources are up already. Can you make a build? Please? I don't if you take request like this but at least I tried.
Also that cardinal build is ? supper smooth, just one thing fingerprint gesture didn't work either. I hope you fix that in the update. Thank you for all this ROMs that no one are building, just you

Thanks for the feed back, I'll look into the fingerprint thing again soon but probably wont be in this build as its already building after being up all night trying to wrap my head around a feature that due to sleep will have to wait lol. I'll see if I cant get a cypher build out soon as well:good:
Cardinal AOSP Update 10/19
Alright peps, sorry for the long delay....but the build is ready. Not exactly what I want to upload because I was wanting to add a certain feature but with sleep deprivation kicking in I was forced to put it on the back burner and do a clean build. So with that said I'm going to get some rest and I will update the OP with changes and so on tomorrow...HAPPY FLASHING :cyclops::silly::victory:

Thanks going to try this but you should move your thread to Moto G5+ Development Section. I think no one checks ROMs on Discussion section.
