Hey all, wondering how many folks are like me and just getting upset with the development on the S6 Edge as well as how the memory management is on this phone. I can't tell you how bad my phone lags with always on the red on ram. I have factory the s6 on my desktop to get the same outcome. What does the community saying? Thanks all.
I would have done a poll but on my mobile device.
Development is slow because Samsung is slow in releasing firmware source.
Go stock until it's all sorted out, you'll be surprised how well and smooth this phone runs.

I'm running stock no root and waiting for root that won't trip Knox or root that can be had with stock kernel and recovery. Current available root only works with modified international kernel that causes some stuff not to work properly.
I need my s6e to be a reliable phone all the time, don't have the time or patience to be reflashing in Odin, rebooting, or resetting phone daily because of signal loss or audio problems.
All I ask for is root with stock recovery.

I need exactly this. Stock without memory management issues. My phone is running and being used for at least 12 hours a day continuously. What do I need to do about the memory management?
Memory management is only in the eye of the beholder, the way I use this phone has no effect on memory leaks or whatever it is that causes people to talk so much about memory disfunction.
I just use it as a phone, make calls, receive calls, texting, photos and checking up on an occasional Amazon order and xda. For this purpose this phone is a rocket with extreme battery life and smooth operation.
My performance and battery life is comparable to my rooted S4
well the performance is much better, but running with almost 40+ junk apps disabled this phone is perfect even before root.
So patiently waiting for simple root on stock kernel and recovery, and when that happens this phone will just get better.

Ok, so I got me a S2 on Sprint and Finally leaving the HTC Evo behind. I've had the S2 for about a month and a half and love it and have not yet rooted yet because it works for me. **Side Note** my EVO was rooted I did roms , hacks etc. So my questions:
1. If I do root, what forum do I go to as I get confused between the Original Android Development, and Android Development forums. So which forum would be correct?
2. I seem to have bad Wifi connectivity, does rooting and picking a ROM help?
3. Are there any issues with recording video with being rooted. I love the camcorder on my device and pictures and I remember when I rooted the EVO, my videos would not record smooth and be out of sync, on EVERY ROM and I don't want to go through that again
**Side Note** I woke up this morning to my phone wanting to update to ICS 4.0.4, um.. I've heard to many bad things about that specifically for this phone so Ill skip it for as long as I can, the only reason I wanted it was because of Chrome and I can live without
#1 doesnt matter. Original is stuff like aosp roms. Cm9 aokp aosp.
#2 yes wifi for me was alot better using a custom rom
#3 no problem with video after root. Nor after custom rom. Unless you are trying out jellybean aosp. Every other rom to my knowledge is fine.
sent from my BAD A$$ Epic touch
1. Both
3. Video is fine.
Side Note - Meh sprints firmware wasn't perfect but honestly most of the issues present in a clean install are to sprint, features, apps, included apps & gadgets. I never kept up with them all though. I went to CM9 and im never looking back.
Some issues with taking the OTA and keeping data. Swype needs its data deleted etc.
Rooting EL29 can not be done via exploit, FF18 is the same both are rooted by flashing rooted versions on top. This can be done wiping data or no data like an ota update. You can take the FF18 No Data one click and its like an OTA except rooted.
Android 4.0's kernel can trigger a bug in our phones emmc firmware. Its advisable to never factory reset on stock kernel/recovery. Safe kernels with safe recoveries are available. The bug happens during formats which can be triggered during wipes and installing roms. The bug triggers corruption that is not fixable via JTAG. We call that the super brick.
Thanks for all the info!
Hi everyone,
I have a GSM GNex running the OTA 4.2 rooted from bixie. I am having a lot of lag/fc/reboot issues. I first just flased it on top of 4.1.2 by just wiping caches and ran pretty laggy. I then did a full wipe of data and caches and started fresh and still not much better. Then I format system/data/caches and reflashed and still not any different. Before I try a different rom or flash back to 4.1.2 (don't want to, I like the new camera in 4.2 a lot) for the time being, can anyone share their experience between trying AOSP and OTA roms and if one is more reliable compared to the other? I work a lot so it's tough for me to dedicate a good hour or so redoing my whole phone setup to find out it's not any better than what it was prior so any help would be great!
Thanks guys
why dont you go 100% stock and root it yourself? it really takes no time at all.
i have no idea if that rom has any under the hood changes to compromise performance like that.

As far as I knew, that was what the bixie rom was: Stock with Root added. I've tried AOSP in the past and they never really ran as good or as reliable as stock on my phone so that's why I always have stuck with stock for updates and just had root access added. Now I am reading that AOSP is more reliable currently than the OTA update ROM which had me thinking I should maybe try a good, semi-stock AOSP rom to get me by if it's reliable enough, or moreso than the OTA.
I haven't used the OTA 4.2 yet, but I have been running kalo86's AOSP ROM with good success. I initially did a flash+factory reset for his 4.1.2 ROM, but all updates since that have been flash+clear caches.
Compared with stock, it seems to have better battery life. Also, I think he has taken the time to fix minor little bugs that were introduced into AOSP.
^Thanks!!
I'll check into that ROM and maybe give it a try when I have some free time here.
So I would like to get back into rooting, but I have some concerns from the last time I rooted a phone (HTC EVO 4G), that maybe you guys could help quell. :silly:
So the last time I rooted, everything went successfully and I made proper backups but unless I was using stock clockwork recovery mod I had some serious carrier issues, the biggest of which was I had absolute zero stock voicemail functionality only after a day of setting up a Google voice account I managed to get some Voicemail functionality in Cyanogenmod. The whole experience was unbelievably frustrating since the phone would also miss calls and not tell me (missed calls would show up out of the blue an hour or two after my friends had initially called). However I did have all the benefits of rooting. Maybe someone has an answer to what I ****ed up when I did this because other EVO users that were running cyanogen were clueless to what my problem was or what caused it.
Second I heard there's some strange IMEI bug that happens on galaxy s3s when rooting that I don't quite understand. I'm trying to get myself a list of successive steps to safely root my GS3. I noticed there's a lot of root guides but I'm wondering which is considered to be the most up to date and safest. found QB root guide if that's the most optimal.
Third, will rooting still let me wifi tether for free? This was a hugely important feature to me since my internet situation is more sketchy more often than not.
Fourth, I don't understand why CM10 is considered to be such a badass mod, is it performance optimization? Some killer feature that's going over my head? I assume it's a 4.1.2 version for S3 owners (one of the main reasons I'd like to root is so I can take advantage of the new multi-window feature).
Fifth, Can I still install OTA updates? Props to MikeWjF for the concise answer.
Is there any key things I'm missing out on, your advice is much appreciated guys!
Yeah I had weird quirky problems like that on my OG EVO as well on AOSP ROMs. I ended up sticking with Sense based ROMs and pretty much stayed problem free. AS far as this phone goes, i've only flashed Touch Wiz based ROMs so far and haven't ran into any problems.

Alright stick to my original UI thanks for the advice!
As far as OTA updates go, no, not unless the ROM itself has an OTA updater in it that updates said ROM. When rooted you should never accept a factory OTA update. I don't think it's even possible on AOSP anyway.

Using odin 3.04
I followed this and hadn't an issue with Odin hanging at all. Took maybe 2 min max to get everything done.
Hello everyone! I have been trying to flash a google edition or no-bs rom like AOKP, and I have been able to get them flashed successfully at times. I have been having a few problems with things such as rom flashes not working (sticks on Samsung logo) and having to odin stock again even when it says it was successful, and TWRP not getting past the logo screen when I boot into recovery about 50% of the time. Overall, this phone has just been an absolute nightmare to flash roms on compared to my gs3. If you know how to address any of these issues, please let me know. But anyways, I am mainly wondering about the data connectivity issues. I have tried several different roms - cyanogenmod, google edition 4.3 (what I wanted) and aokp 4.2.2 but nothing works right. The rom runs smoothly and fast, but the data works intermittently at best. It seems fine right after I flash sometimes, but often I won't even be able to sign in to my account to download my apps without wifi, and it rarely works when I'm out and about but yet somehow it connects well enough to stream music without freezes or interruption via google music. It's been showing "H" and "DC" in the signal bar, instead of H+ or LTE like I'm used to... Could I have screwed the modem or the radio up? If so, what do I do to fix it? While I wait for responses I will flash stock 4.2 touchwiz to see if it works better.
Thank you all.
P.s. If this is just a known problem with the roms, does anyone know of a 4.3 google edition rom that works, and is pre rooted or rootable?

To make your long story a lot shorter, I have seen dozens of posts just like yours.
The only way to solve problems such as you are having is simple, only flash Samsung M919 Galaxy S4
Touchwiz 4.2.2 based custom roms. Stay away from any of the aokp/aosp/cm10 or google and other ported roms.
(Wicked v6 and Darthstalker v8 are both excellent custom roms)
Download a custom rom, copy to internal sdcard, boot to twrp/cwm recovery, be sure to do a "factory reset", "wipe cache",
"data", "dalvik cache" and "system" before you start flashing. If you do all of the above, you will have no further problems.
Good luck!

Well, that's what I've been trying to do. I really wanted to try 4.3, but really I just want to escape the bloated, sluggish stock rom. It's so slow, and I know that this phone is blazing fast, and I want to be rid of the pesky, space hogging bloat but when I tried to remove it I had all sorts of problems (such as gallery not working, forcequits out the wazu, and excessive battery use). On that note, and since I've been an AOKP Junkie since I was rocking a GS1 captivate, could you possibly recommend a rom that is more or less a streamlined TW? I like things such as swipe contact to call and the swipe any direction lock screen but i don't need any of the gimmicky samsung stuff. It would be nice if I could still use the airview stuff, though.

It looks like you want a lot of the bells and whistles of the stock 4.2.2 touchwiz rom but 1GB of unusable wasted space is more
important to you. ... If you would do a bit of investigating of how the phone allocates free and used space you would quickly
change your mind.
All of the Android phones have a partition of a pre determined size dedicated for the rom/firmware only so regardless
of how little space certain roms use the extra free space you would gain is not useable by the end user unless the phone
is re-partitioned with a custom bootloader which would involve a lot of very technical knowledge to do.
Even if you could do it yourself, what would you gain?? 850-950MB more or less, not even 1GB ?
The two custom roms which I suggested are already de-bloated as much as possible without hindering performance and during
flashing both of those custom roms have options of adding features and apps which users want to be included or skipping those
apps and or features which the user does not want or need.
Go to the playstore and download a free app called Antutu Benchmark after you restore your nandroid backup of
your stock rom, or re-flashing your stock rom and then run the benchmark, write down your score.
After doing that either flash one of the Google edition roms or any of the Cyanogen roms and run another benchmark
so you will see with your own eyes that the 2 scores will be very similar, no big or noticeable difference in daily usage.
If you're a good boy perhaps Santa will give you a 64GB microSD card for Xmas.
Gaining 1GB more or less would hardly make a difference anyway even if was feasible to do. (which it's not)

Well, I did mention them but I'm less concerned about the usage and performance than I am getting rid of all the bloody bloatware. It infuriates me to no end that I can't uninstall lookout and all those other apps that I'll never use and that give me constant pesky notifications. Plus, I did try a 4.3 rom and it may not actually be faster, but it definitely felt snappier and cleaner. I like that, even if it is an illusion. But since everyone is saying to stay with tw roms, I was asking for one that doesn't have all the garbage apps but still has the ability to support the phone's special functions. Oh well. I found a 4.3 that seems to be working so I'll stick with that.
As far as connectivity goes, check that the APN settings are right. I had the exact same issue with no LTE, slow or no connection, etc and the APN settings from the ROM flashed were wrong. It needs to be the fast.t-mobile APN, not the epc.tmobile APN. Also, not all ROMs have the icon for LTE, so you might be getting it and you just dont know it. Try a speed test to confirm. Hope that helps!
EDIT: I ran the CM10 nightlies on mine with no issues at all. I have also ran a few other ROMs. Right now I am simply running a deodexed rooted stock ROM that is in the development section that allowed me to flash a debloater and/or remove the bloat I don't want, yet keep all the stock touchwiz features, WiFi calling, etc. Simple and easy.

This seems awfully drastic. The AOSP based 4.3 ROMs work fine.
As for the OP's concerns about DC and H in the signal bar, that's normal.
Hi guys. I recently purchased this phone from t mobile and so far it has been terrible. I cannot return it because I traveled to a different country and there is no T-Mobile here, so I am stuck.
Some issues I have are:
- extreme over heating while simply using the phone to browse the internet.
- battery draining extremely fast, lasting 4 hours Max (basic usage)
I am using the Android revolution rom on 5.1 lollipop and I thought it was supposed too fix these issues. Can someone please tell me how to fix these issues? I feel ripped off and wish I bought an s6 instead
I would say you have a faulty device... ?
Did you flash the new firmware aswell? Not just the rom?

I wasn't aware that you had to install the firmware as well. where can I get it?
http://forum.xda-developers.com/one-m9/development/firmware-red-t3097678
latest firmware. Should help fix issues. If not, it's possible it is device related.
Do you use greenify or any other similar app to hibernate apps when the screen is off? Do you have a lot of apps that sync automatically throughout the day? Have you removed bloatware and other apps that run in the background that you dont use by using titanium backup or romtoolbox?
Simple things like resolving any issues with the above mentioned items can help prolong battery life by a fair bit. Kernel tweaks also help to reduce overheating / cpu usage if you dont require you're phone to run at top capacity.
with overheating you need to keep in mind this is an all metal casing on the phone ... this means it will naturally absorb a lot of heat which isnt always a bad thing as it takes some of the strain away from the phones core. Obviously if its so warm it's hot to the touch then thats definately not good. But doing a full wipe / reset / re-flash etc is worth doing to get you back to basics and then if the issue remains, and you have seen to the above tweaks like using greenify / uninstalling apps you dont need / changing apps sync frequency etc, then it is probably hardward related.

I installed the android revolution rom which has no bloatware, I only have a few apps like facebook, snapchat, and twitter. The rest are never open. I have google syncing automatically. I am also currently in the process of installing the elitekernal that should help the CPU not overheat. Which kernal do you recommend? Can I use multiple kernals at one time? And yes, it eventually reaches the point where its not supposed to be that hot. I can understand if it get warm, but it really shouldn't get to the point where its hot to the touch. I really hope its not a hardware issue because then I'd have to be stuck with it.

as far as i know its a one kernel at a time kinda show.
I have only ever used the kernel that comes with the rom so far so cant recommend any others im afraid.
If after installing a different kernel you have the same issue and you have a set up like you've mentioned, it does sound like a hardware problem. With your setup it should very rarely get that hot unless you do a lot of flashing in a short space of time. My phone only ever gets hot to a point that i notice when i flash and set up a new rom, but it soon returns to normal.
good luck.

While you were still on stock, did you update the phone through Software Updates? You're likely on the originally released version of the firmware, which is probably 90% of your problems. Mismatched firmware/ROM isn't helping either.
Either return the device to stock to be able to take the OTA update, or S-Off ($25 through sunshine) and flash the latest developer edition firmware (2.8.617.4).

Bro. you really got to do some reading before you just start flashing stuff. Elite is NOT compatible with 5.1 roms.
if you are on 5.1, you HAVE to use the stock kernel . There are NO custom kernels for 5.1 yet.
Restore the boot.img from the ARHD rom. Either by restoring from the backup you made before you flashed the elite kernel, by dirty flashing ARHD, or by extracting boot.img from the ARHD zip and flashing it with fastboot.

I did not update the phones firmware. I was doing this whole thing in the first place because I thought updating to 5.1 android would update my firmware lol.
Right now I am trying to adb sideload the android revolution ROM but the phone says "Starting adb sideload feature" and gets stuck there. I have the correct drivers. Fastboot works fine, but I can only flash stock roms with fastboot. Do you have any link for the stock T-Mobile rom?

Right now I am trying to adb sideload the android revolution ROM but the phone says "Starting adb sideload feature" and gets stuck there. I have the correct drivers. Fastboot works fine, but I can only flash stock roms with fastboot. Do you have any link for the stock T-Mobile rom?

This will wipe your internal storage, so back it up first, but it's going to be the easiest way to get out of the mess you've gotten yourself in.

FYI-You need to have HTC Sync Manager installed on your computer for the RUU to run (or at least you USED to). If you get error 155 it's likely because it's not installed.
I fixed it by putting android revolution rom on my sd card then flashing it via twrp.
Now I have a simple question:
Does Lolipop 5.1 include all those fixes that HTC introduced? Or do I need to wait for the firmware for that? I am talking about the fixes like camera, overheating, battery, etc.

Firmware fixes those issues, not the rom...or at least you need the firmware for any of the fixes to actually work And using the latest ARHD with 1.32 firmware is likely making some of your issues worse.
There should be one firmware update for T-Mobile right now. But like I said, you'll have to return to stock system image to get the update. Either that or S-Off your phone which will make it possible to update to the 2.8 developer edition firmware which ARHD would run awesome on. The only downside to s-off and using developers firmware is if you use t-mobile wifi calling. For that to work, I think you need official t-mobile firmware.

if you are on 5.1, you HAVE to use the stock rom . There are NO custom roms for 5.1 yet.

Not to confuse the OP, but @jollywhitefoot what do you mean there are no custom roms for 5.1? Did you mean kernal? Another question, Is the new T-mobile update out already? I heard it comes out on the 17th.

Sorry. Thanks for bringing that to my attention. I meant to write kernel instead of rom. There are no custom KERNELS for 5.1 roms yet.
I've fixed my original post to avoid future confusion...but hopefully we'll see a custom kernel for this device in a couple of weeks.
You probably know more about T-Mobile update schedule than I do. I'm on AT&T and they're the worst about pushing updates, so I don't even bother keeping up with them.
We probably won't have any custom kernels for a few more weeks. Nothing can happen until HTC releases source, which has been coming a couple of weeks to a month after the OTAs.
