Hello,
Are there some folders or some locations on the OS drive that are automatically encrypted ?
I've read that encryption was proposed by default for any new buyed telephone but not everything is encrypted on Lollipop.
I was curious to know how it is with the Zenfone 2 ?
I have 550 ml version.
Thanks.
Nope. Nothing is encrypted by default. Not that I know of anyway.
Some of the folders with be protected with rw restrictions, but not encrypted.

What do you mean are protected ?
Is this something new in Lollipop or does already exist in previous versions ?
Thanks.

I chose to encrypt the files on my SD card using the option in under system. i have flashed to a new ROM and forgot to copy the files from my SD to my PC and now they all have locks on them and i cannot open them . anyone know how i can unlock them in any way or do i need to just delet them and move on?
TIA
Based on what I know of how the encryption works, I think you're going to be stuck deleting the files and moving on. Everything I've read says that you can't recover files encrypted by one handset on a different handset (which your newly flashed handset is, in terms of the encryption algorithm).
Sorry.

Yep, they're gone. When you flashed, you wrote over the key you need to decrypt them.
I upgraded to windows mobile 6.1 kavana the problem I have is that I have encrypted the data with my earlier version the question is, is there any way you could read the data?

maybe you could try OTFE4PDA to read data that has been encrypted , go here to get it...
how workrs?
If you have used the built in encryption of windows mobile your old data are lost forever. The data are (to my knowledge) encrypted in a device-HW-key (+ probably user name) dependent encryption and cannot be read by any other device. Microsoft advises to copy the data from such a card via the device itself (AS connected) to a backup before upgrading.
You may(!) be lucky if you step back to the very same old OS with old same user name, but I doubt it.
A similar tool that encrypts your data like the one proposed will not help at all.
I think that not many are using the built in encryption, so knowledge is not so widely public in that regard.
files with extensions were changed by changing the file extention is damaged, asks:
and so know what version of had before? I was according to the standard version 6
I am wondering if there is anyone interested in bringing transparent "SD-card" encryption to the Galaxy Nexus. On Android 4 there's already encryption for the data partition, also the Galaxy Nexus is using MTP for mounting the "SD-Card" on Windows. So using an encrypted "SD-card" on Windows or somewhere else shouldn't be a problem, as transparent encryption shouldn't affect MTP? So this would lead to the following ideas / requirements:
1) We need an option to disable mounting of the internal "SD-card" when an USB connection is established or else everyone can simply read the content, as the encryption is transparent.
2) Encrypt the "SD-Card" in a transparent way, mount it on boot. There are already implementations of transparent encryption, e.g. LUKS Manager. Use the data partition (encrypted by Android's built in encryption) to store a mount script that contains the password to mount the encrypted "SD-card"
3) Optional: Split the "SD-card" in two partitions, leave one unencrypted so we still have a partition we can use to store backups done during recovery etc.
Anyone interested in doing this?
This ain't development. :'(

if u use a secure lockscreen, sequence, pin or password..and ur device is locked, the content of the sdcard doesn not appear when u attach it to the computer, unless u unlock ur device

Thanks, good information Still would be nice to be able to explicitely prevent the mounting in general like it was possible on Android 2.x. Anyway, one problem solved
Hi. I plan on buying the 2017 A5, and I want a fully encrypted device. So there’s a question.
Will the CPU (with only A53 Cortexes) be enough for an acceptable experience with full device encryption? And if it is, will my device be encrypted out of box? AFAIK all the devices shipped with Marshmallow are required to be encrypted, unless the performance isn’t enough for on-the-fly seamless encryption. Is that the case here?
Data partition is encrypted by Stock out of the box.

So are you saying the phone is already encrypted? I have got my hands on A5 2017 and could not find device encryption option. The only option in device security is to encrypt SD Card

My guess that the phones that come encrypted out of box don't have that option because there's no use for it. That make them lack confirmation though.

U are right, stock is encrypted by default. No option to disable it only with a custom recovery and a boot patch

Good Day Everyone,
I am writing to seek help with my encryption issue. I have read all over the forums and cannot find a solution.
In a nutshell, I stored some files in Private folder and they are encrypted. I changed my phone from Mi Max Prime (sold) to Mi Max. Stable update 8.2. I am unable to restore the files, I can see then, but there is no thumbnail or image. On my computer they show up as HIDDEN.....etc.
My question to you is, is the encryption hardware dependent? In other words, do I need to get my old Mi Max Prime back in other to be able to decrypt the files again?
I even changed my Mi Cloud password and all, still no avail.
Attempting to decrypt them end with error message "Attention, Couldn't restore".
These are quite important pictures and video. Is there a tool anyone can recommend?
Please any feedback is welcomed.
I am desperate. Please don't ignore, I am willing and ready to try any solutions.
The encryption keys might be on your original device.
No Luck

I put the SD card back in the original phone and it still won't decrypt the files. This is a big lesson learned with these things. They are not yet fully ready for main usage
