So I've had my tablet a year and a half.. Its lightly used. But lately my auto rotation will not work. I factory reset the device with WUGs but left it unlocked and still no dice!
I'm currently running stock 5.1.1 with the 4.05 bootloader.
Going to try flashing cleanrom and see if that changes anything for me. Suggestions anyone?

It is probably not software or firmware. Instead, the ribbon cables between the main board and USB board are probably loose.
There is a thread discussing a minor hardware hack to fix it, but I struggle with copying links on my phone.

Not even a "hack" per se...just re-seat the ribbon cable in the connector. It is a bit "fiddly", but not bad if you have ever done something similar on any other ribbon cable/connector.

So, after a couple weeks of trying to figure out the problem, I have finally narrowed it down (yay me!).
Anyways, when there is a cable (and sometimes not) plugged into the USB Port on the phone, and the port is stressed so that it is angled downwards, all input to the touchscreen goes haywire. I attempted to follow the ifixit guide, however I don't have any plastic removal parts, and using my fingers and nails was becoming really painful, but, I don't think it is going to work, because the headphone port began to come off as well, and judging by the pictures in the guide, that isn't supposed to happen.
Anyways, I am wondering, is there any way to fix this? Possibly other then opening the device up? Or should I just go to the repair store and swap it out?
If I do swap it out, what is my chance that I would get a new phone versus a refurb, seeing as how the phone is so new?

Ive tried this. A new cord actually didn't work for me. I also tried it with a different phone, which is where I came to the conclusion that its the actual charging plug. Something in it is either fried or just malfunctioning. The cause of it is unknown, but luckiliy i have a few micro usb chargers laying around and the rest work fine. You should also ask yourselves the following question: Do you have the same problem when charging thru usb on a Comp? If the answer to that question is no, then its clearly not the USB wire. If the answer was yes, then I just didnt have the same problem as you and you can disregard this entire post.
I just noticed my mini USB port is fairly loose that when the usb cable is angled at a particular direction charging stops.
I tried the same cable at two other phones and no problem. I visually inspected the port and it seems the metal that surround and supports the mini usb broke at the side making the top and bottom part separate from each other. It makes the port not a snug fit but a losse fit... And so I wonder if anyone else had this issue? I've only had my S3 for a few months and I use it roughly the same as my old phones (yes, I do use it while charging) and they didn't have this problem... Is it really that easy to break or do I seem to be mistreating it?
Note: The small pointy thing is ok, so I can still charge and do other stuff. Only issue is that it's a loose fit.

I was just dealing with this last night. It may be a little flimsy. Hopefully it doesn't get worse
I know... If it gets worse, I hope I don't get caught somewhere having unable to flash a stock rom via odin... To claim a clean warranty... Afterall, the damage is on the hardware and can be seen outside
Is it the original cable? I know my charger cable is stupid loose but my USB cable is fine.

If it is actually damaged, why not get a replacement now?

Yup, original cable that came with it... Cable is fine, but the port isn't...

I'll have to check with Wireless Wave where I bought the phone... Because it's either they send it for repair which would take weeks and they'd give me a crappy temporary phone... Or if I'm lucky replace it on the spot... Which I doubt... So I'll have to weigh in the options... It's not much of an issue right now but pretty sure it will be soon enough so I have to ask them soon... I'm just doing some poking around to see if other people experience this as well if it's a fairly "common" issue then they might give me a replacement if I tell them fixing wouldn't help because it may just happen again.

I think I damaged my port on my phone that I used to charge with. My phone still charges but I have to be careful as if I move it some it stops charging. I have tried a different cable so I know it the port on my phone. Any ideas? I think maybe its a bit bent inside or something
The 3 pins by the right side of your phone. Idea?
Head down to the accessory sub forum and look for the pogo dock thread, you can easily DIY your own dock
Regarding the USB port, you can order a replacement from evilBay.

But how hard is it to replace the usb port?
I've replaced mine but it's a delicate procedure. Don't get rough with anything. Ifixit has a tutorial. I already had the plastic tools from my old iPod video days to change battery.

Well I don't have any of those tools. My usb still partly works so I will leave it and see it I get annoyed with it to replace it.

When you order the port from evilBay, some sellers will include the required tools.

Hi all, I recently had my USB port fail as well, and when cleaning it did not work, I got a new one off the internet and installed it today.
I can't post links, but I followed the ifixit guide, and also the Youtube video entitled "Galaxy Nexus Screen Repair and Charging Port Fix."
Everything seemed to go smoothly, but now the phone won't turn on, or even show anything when I plug it in. I took it all apart and did it again with the same result. I know that doesn't give you much, but any idea where I might have gone wrong, and how I might be able to fix it?
Thanks.
Hi all,
I recently damaged the micro usb socket on my Nexus 7 2013, which stopped it from charging. After some searching I found a replacement pcb (daughterboard / lower motherboard pcb) from Asus parts. I fitted the board and the tablet will now charge. Unfortunately the touchscreen is now completely unresponsive!
At first I thought I had damaged the digitizer or ribbon cable in the disassembly process, but to check I re-fitted the damaged board. The touchscreen worked again!
So I now wonder if there is some issue with swapping boards on the Nexus 7 2013. I checked the part number etc of both boards and they are identical. So I'm confused as to why this problem has occurred.
Does anyone know about this issue and how I can resolve it please? I have been very careful in swapping out the parts and cannot see any damage to any components.
Any help would be greatly appreciated!

So does the screen work or not? You probably just had it temporarily not detected by the system. Had you tried holding the power button for a minute to force a reboot?? Probably would have worked.

Thanks dottat, but that does not seem to cure the problem. It's a weird one. The screen is on and displaying as usual, just no response from digitizer. Do you think it is possible that the board is simply faulty? It seems unlikely seeing as it will allow the Nexus to charge, power on etc. Asus parts have agreed to send me another in the meantime so I will report back when it arrives.
Ok so the new board arrived today, fitted it with no issues but unfortunately the problem still persists. It is strange that the touchscreen works with the original board, there must be something I'm missing!
I know this isn't a solution to the current problem, but how about a wireless charger?

I took a risk last night and removed the damaged micro sd socket from the original board and replaced it with the good one from the new board. The tablet will charge now and the touchscreen is working, although it is very unpredictable, think I may have damaged the ribbon cable terminals on the board from too much swapping over.
I really need to get the new board working so I can make sure it is just the board at fault, so I know I haven't damaged the digitizer or its ribbon cable.

There are a few revisions of that daughterboard. On the board there is a stamp that identifies any revision. If it is the original it has no revision number stamp.
It sounds now as though you have damaged something other than the board such as the flex cable as you have suggested, but the incorrect revision model was the original cause of your digitizer issue. 99%.
Thanks.
Title basically says it all. I have two Sprint S6 phones and both of them charge and work fine, but no amount of messing with usb modes or Windows drivers work, and I keep getting error 43 device descriptor not responding. I've tried multiple different driver versions, smart switch, side sync, windows, linux, everything. I cannot get these phones detected by a computer. The charge ports visually are perfect, no signs of damage or liquid, and the cords click in nicely. These phones look brand new. Anyway, the whole reason I actually need USB is to have them remotely unlocked, and to root and flash firmware. Now, I'm trying to see if anyone knows how I might go about this without USB access. I was thinking if I could get root without Odin, I could use terminal emulator or flashfire to flash a revocery, then use that to flash whatever rom I want. And for the unlock I was thinking maybe iDoneApps would work? Anyway, if anyone has any insight or suggestions please let me know. I plan on ordering a replacement charge port and testing them, but I doubt that will work since there's no sign of wear of damage to the existing ports (Basically I'm thinking the onboard USB IC is malfunctioning, which isn't on the usb charge port board and instead on the mainboard). So, any ideas?

Now ive been reading a lot and have found mny cases mine included issues with the usb. Aparantly the flex cable end is highly sucseptable to moisture damage. Mine would. Not charge temp to high or low the flex builds up a corrosion which u can clean and lubricate the flex and it may work again. I know of at least one other person with this issue and my fix worked on his too.
You may say well my phones never been wet but from what i read. Even high humidity is messing with them. I followed on of the many disasembly guides. And i furthered with a cooling compound on the internal chips to keep the system cooler. When i reasembled i used a qtip to clean the flex with alchol then a drop of wd40 also with qtip. And then a demoisture paper inside the phone on top of the flex. To make sure it stays dry.
I bought mine s6 for 20 bucks. I figured out that power wasnt coming out of the flex which also has the mtp and other usb funtions on the same cable.I own a electronic repair shop And have most of the equipment to test and repair most electronics. But this ones going on 2 months good now

I pulled a working USB board from a dead Verizon s6 and tried it with the Sprint one I have and it did not work (charged but no detection on the PC, same as the original). It did fix the issue in the Verizon one I had and that phone is now gone. I can disassemble the Sprint one again but I figure if it had the issue with 2 different USB boards and flex cables than it was something on the main board. However, like I said, I tried a Verizon variant cable on the Sprint variant, which have different boards when I order parts but upon inspection look identical. Also, no evidence of corrosion or liquid damage anywhere.
Flashfire and Flashify both need root. Once root is achieved there's a lot I can do, but is there any way to root without USB? Isn't the only method through Odin?

Ive been outa the samsung thing for a while if there is another root method i dont know. Im just now learnin myself on samsungs.
Well I ordered a replacement USB board and swapped it out today, same issue, so it's something on the main board. You'd think with the Stagefright vulnerability there'd be a userland root again like Towelroot. Well, I give up on this one I guess.
