I am unable to get USB connection working with my phone for development purposes. I have turned on the USB debugging and connected the device with USB cable and it does detect file transfer capabilities, but I am unable to get the ADB connection working.
I am running Windows XP SP3
It says it has found a device 'Galaxy' but is unable to install drivers for it.
What I have tried:
sdk/extras/google/usb_driver directory
I tried installing PdaNetA302.exe
I tried installing Samsung_USB_Driver_for_Moblie_Phones_v1_4_6_0.exe
I selected 'install from specific location' -> choose a driver -> 'Android Phone' but it had none listed and the aforementioned driver directories did not work either when I selected them as 'Have Disk' options.
I also tried uninstalling all related devices and do the whole connecting thing again, but without success.
Help please?
SOLUTION
Apparently HTC drivers got in the way. After I removed all HTC drivers from my Windows XP, restarted and connected the device, the Samsung drivers kicked in and made it work.
To remove unused drivers from Windows XP you can follow this guide.
Thanks for posting your experience.
Another problem I found, was that there's a different SamsungDriver.exe floating around, 8341kb. DOES NOT complete the ADB drivers necessary.
After installing the v1.4.6 drivers mentioned above, golden!

Spoke too soon.
ADB recognizes it when it's booted in ICS, but while in the bootloader, it's not picked up. Thus fastboot commands won't work!
Windows 7 gives me a Android 1.0 driver not installed error.
Anyone?

I had no end of problems getting adb and fastboot working for GN due to the usb driver problems.
After much Google-ing...
I installed PdaNet on my laptop and this installed all required drivers in the process of installing, you can then un-install PdaNet and the required drivers are still on your system.
I now have adb and fastboot working for both my Nexus One and Galaxy Nexus phones on my Windows 7 x64 laptop.
Hope this helps!
Thanks to XDA member el3ctrik for this tip!
Thanks, figured it out just after you posted. The PDANet drivers were the trick, in #3 below (don't need to actually run the installation in this case).
You'd think after 1.5 years of playing/hacking/unhacking/fixing and refixing the N1 I'd know how this is supposed to work.
A couple of comments, since some tutorials are based on older installations.
1. Installing android sdk. I went through a crapload of unnecessary trouble in trying to reinstall these, thinking that the usb drivers, adb, and fastboot needed to be updated. NO.
1a. In fact, in trying to reinstall the android sdk, you have to install the Java SDK. THEN, with the latest revision, R15, FASTBOOT IS MISSING! Need to pull that from a r13 zip.
2. You need the CORRECT samsung drivers. The ones mentioned above are the correct ones. I installed some limited half-ass versions which did not do the job.
3. You need FASTBOOT drivers. These were found from this post http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=9919944&postcount=1
which states:
http://www.fileserve.com/file/5bgRBX5 (PDAnet x86 and x64 which are the fastboot drivers plus android sdk drivers)
The #2 drivers let ADB see it when ICS is running, #3 (and probably #2 too) are needed while in fastboot. To get #3 installed, I had to go to device manager in Win7, hit update driver (next to the error exclamation mark device), and direct to these files.
That is all <whew!>
Glad you got it sorted out buddy, I was in exact same boat, years of Nexus One fastboot and adb use, but still had problems!
I am really struggling to install ADB drivers (for using within ICS). The GNex is in developer debug mode. When I plug in, Device Manager shows the Portable Device, but no other devices are shown. So in this case, i have nothing to right-click to manually install the drivers. There is nothing under Android, or adb, or anything like that. Hope someone can advise...
I got it to appear by changing to PTP mode in the USB Computer COnnection on the phone!! Success.
Windows 7N USB driver issues
First post on this forum, so please bear with me.
I struggled for a few weeks trying to connect my new Samsung Galaxy Nexus (Rogers) to a 32-bit Windows 7 Ultimate N machine. The system wouldn't accept the drivers from Samsung - failed to recognize, driver software not successfully installed, etc. Tried all variety of proposed fixes, manually selecting the driver (have disk), downloading SDKs and ADB drivers.
Finally fixed it based on a very old suggestion from several years ago from an HTC user. The USB driver wasn't recognized in the absence of Windows Media Player being installed on the machine (a quirk of Ultimate N). Found the Patch from MS for WMP for 7 Ultimate N and the system immediately recognized and installed the Samsung driver and thus the Nexus is now connected.
Download my toolkit (ROM-Less), it will assist you in that manner!
It has easy instructions, and it will do most of the work itselff!

I've tried this on both my work PC and my home PC. When I plug the phone in, it makes the familiar connection sound and will start to charge but the computer doesn't ask me if I want to open it up for USB browsing. This is recent and there have been no firmware changes. I've rebooted the computers and the phone but nothing seems to matter. Has anyone else encountered this issue?
do you have developer options (in settings) on or off? Has the usb cable been roughly removed from the phone lately. it may be damaged?
developer options are off, I've also tried several cables
Are you rooted and on a custom Rom?

It doesn't mount as a USB drive, it mounts as a media device because it uses MTP. That's not an issue with the phone, it has to do with how Samsung set it up.

Do what the poster above me said, then make sure to unlock your phone after plugging it in or else your files won't show up

Its the same thing i can't transfer files to the phone or the external card.I don't get it i never had a problem with my galaxy 2.I've uninstalled the drives installed them again and used different cables.
i have the same problem too. my phone nolonger shows up as a storage device on my pc. i have developer options on and usb debugging checked. ive tried different cables , different computer , tried rebooting phone, tried reinstalling the drivers too .. nothing seems to fix this issue... earlier today it was working fine .. when i plug it in it pops up samsung modem and thats it.. please help
This is very strange, as a work around you can use Wireless Transfer. I've used this as my main method since my OG Epic.
same issue trying the fixes mentioned. after reinstalling the driver i get about 3 files transferred then it pops up with that error....WTH is goin on i have several gigs of books and music how am i supposed to get them off?

THis is complete crap! why is this goin on?! I can get my pc to recognize the device i can browse directories but it suddenly tries to decide when to quit when i try to transfer files. I can only get about 5 folders moved before it thinks thats all and just stops it no longer comes up with the device not functioning error message anymore.......please somebody help. I dont have a large enough sd card to just transfer. Ive searched on google and there are not actually explanation only that you cant mount the internal storage as mass storage.....samsung is going the way of HTC for me. Stupid oversights renders the device a complete waste to me. !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Ok last one. I was considering getting the note 8.0, is this something that all of their devices are gonna suffer from?
I'm not going to pretend to know what's wrong with your device, as I have 2 Galaxy S3 and a Gnex and 2 Epics which all connect just fine and I can transfer any and all files from the desktop or laptop no issues.
But I will suggest maybe you set up a drop box and you can share all those files from your phone to computer or visa versa.

well after a couple deep breaths i went ahead and did that after posting those. I still cant locate a reason why it would come up with that error. There are a couple posts in another forum talking about it being win7 related and not the device it self. Ive tested other cables, rebooted pc/device, checked/reinstalled drivers, and nothing come up out of the ordinary. I hope someone locates the issues, just for having an answer to this headache. thx
An answer-
For those who are having issues insure that your device is on a Stock TouchWiz ROM.
MAKE SURE DEVICE IS UNPLUGGED THIS ENTIRE PROCESS.
1.
= Go to the Dialpad.
= Enter this code ##3424#
= Menu will pop up click Qualcomm USB Settings.
= Click the 2nd Option MTP+ADB
= Press Save
Done
2.
= On your computer go to Control Panel Click Category for the viewing style.
= You will see Uninstall A Program. Click that and go to S- Uninstall Everything Samsung.
= Plug your device back in and let default drivers install takes average 45-60 seconds.
= Device detected as MTP. You may now transfer files.
Done
Let me know if this worked for you.
Ok i tried that and when i plugged the phone back in to install the drivers, they all installed except the CDC serial it says no driver found.I need help please.

As you said, the CDC serial (Unknown Device) popped up. Unplug your device and install drivers.
http://www.samsung.com/us/support/owners/product/SPH-D710
Click "Download" tab at the bottom and press the "EXE" button to download.
-Plug your phone back in afterwards and keep "Device Manager" open you will see the CDC Device disappear.
-When its installing I recommend keeping the "Installing Drivers" window open to see when everything is finished.
-After that's done switch phone to PTP via the notification menu. Let it load drivers and it will install as a camera.
-Switch back and MTP should be working.
Let me know how it goes.

Well it finally worked.Thank you so much did what you said and i can transfer files over to the card and phone.Again thanks for your help.I never had trouble with with the original epic and epic touch.
So lately I've been having more and more issues with my Lumia 640, such as random reboots, data switching, and slow downs. I decided that since I haven't preformed a hard reset since about 2 builds ago, it was time for it. I went ahead and reset, and everything appeared to be working better. It was when I plugged my phone into the laptop to dev unlock and deploy tools that I ran into trouble. As soon as I plug it in, I get the device connected sound followed by USB Device Not Recognized error, a Phone charging slowly message on the phone, and then a device unplugged sound from the laptop. I tried it on my desktop and get the exact same results. Both my computers are running Windows 10, and my 640 is on latest 10586 build.
I've tried everything I could think of/find online including
-Soft reset the device while plugged
-Using different Usb cable
-Uninstalling the device (read below)
-Rebooting the PC and letting it turn the phone on with it
-Uninstall all Usb Root Hubs
Unplug PC power cord/battery and Usb devices and wait 10-15min
-Developer Mode on/off
-Hard Reset phone again
I really don't know what else to do. When I plug it in and get the not recognized error, it's a Descriptor Request Failed, and then the device disconnects. In Device Manager it shows under Universal Serial Bus (as an Unknown device with the Descriptor Request Failed next to it) until it disconnects itself, then it disappears. Using Show Hidden Devices and a command to enable showing every device ever connected (plugged in or not), I see it show but it's greyed out and it's properties page says it's disconnected. While showing all hidden devices, I uninstalled the phone under Portable Devices as it used to work, along with my wife's phone.
Nothing I've done has gotten me anywhere. It just connects with the error and immediately disconnects. It used to work with both the laptop and desktop before I hard reset. The only thing i believe could be causing it was the fact that before the reset my phone was being faked as a Lumia 1520. But I've uninstalled that in the hidden devices of Device Manger.
Any help would be greatly appreciated. As it stands, I can't developer unlock, deploy tools, or even copy my pictures!
Edit- just tried plugging it into 2 other computers with WinXP (. I know it's not supported), and also get the device not recognized and charging slowly. So... Either the firmware/os git messed up, or the Usb jack is messed up.
I have also have same problem. If you find the solution. Pls let me know. problem is you cannot roll back to 8.1 without connection to PC

Does device charge properly using AC? Based your trouble shooting so far it seems like it be the Usb port acting up.. I am assuming the Usb cables were 6ft and under? Did you flash any non stock rom to the phone? And what do you mean faked as a 1520? If the phone acts weird while charging it definitely could be the phones Usb port. If not you can put the phone in flash mode and use thor2 list device connection list to see if and how long the phone is being detected by windows.
OP, you have interopunlocked phone with FS acces?

charging is perfectly fine. I also suspected the Usb port, but after an online chat with Cricket Support, they assured me it was a software issue.

the thing is, I couldn't even restore to 8.1 with my issue. The phone would not stay connected long enough to be identified by the OS let alone the Recovery Tool.
However, I have good news. I did finally solve the problem. When I had realized that connecting the phone while in the boot loader got it to detect and install as Lumia BootMgr, I opened up the Recovery Tool and sure enough it was detected. I let it start downloading the ROM, and about 1/2 way through I heard the device disconnected sound and thought oh great this isn't going to work either. However, the download kept going, and when it finished I clicked the start install button, but it gave an error saying the device was not detected. So with the phone still plugged in, I preformed a soft reset and continued holding Volume down to boot back into the boot loader. When I came to the ! screen and the phone was detected again as Lumia BootMgr, I clicked Retry in the Recovery Tool and it actually copied over the ROM, which thankfully is a very quick process.
Once 8.1 had finished setting up the phone was detected and installed perfectly on the computer. Last night I updated back to W10 and it's still detecting without an issue. I'm for sure not enabling the Full Filesystem Access hack again. Before this problem started I was already tired of waiting up to 30 minutes at a time for it to connect. Only reason I did it was to copy the custom HOSTS mod file to block ads, which I'd love to do again, but it's just not worth it.
So, if FS acces, enter device manager on pc, disable windows phone, enable windows phone.... wait a minute...voila

Are you referring to the problem I was having? If you are, then reread my OP. You'll see that Device Manager would not even display the phone because the phone would immediately disconnect after the USB Device Not Recognized error popped up. There was simply nothing to disable, or enable for that matter.
If your saying to disable and enable AFTER applying the FS access hack to affect the detection time, then please, elaborate on that.
Erase driver, reinstall driver, try with another pc, sell the phone....

you obviously did not reread the OP.. I tried all of those with the exception of the last with no sucess.
And I think you've missed my point entirely.. I solved the issue already. Hopefully the other member that posted in here with the same problem can fix it by following what I did.
You right.. disable full fs access....
You still active Mr. Orange
Okay so before anyone says this has been solved before it hasn't, I have scoured the internet left and right and I have not found any way to fix this problem. Also just as a pre FYI it's not just the LG G3, it's also happening with my work provided Samsung Galaxy S5 and my girlfriend's S7.
So here we go, no matter what I have tried or pulled off, I cannot get my new (old) laptop to recognize any device I plug into any of its 5 USB ports (3 USB 3.0, 2 USB 2.0, 1 USB 3.0 enabled with Super Charger), now as for the details, the laptop has windows 10 installed and to be more specific it's an msi gt70 0nc, so it's a higher end gaming laptop and I have tried everything and it just won't connect to any phone I plug into it.
And before anyone says if I've tried another laptop I have, to be specific I've plugged both phones into my lady's HP Envy with Windows 10 and both were recognized just fine.
If anyone is wondering here are the measures I've taken:
Installed LG United Mobile Driver (almost every version available)
Installed LG Mobile Driver (once again, every version available)
Installed LG PC Suite (Doesn't detect phone)
Tried switching phone between USB debugging and MTP PTP And Charge Only and every combination in between.
Have tried uninstalling and reinstalling Windows Media Player as it carries the MTP protocols.
Have tried installing the Media Feature Pack for windows 10 N and KN off of the Microsoft website
Have tried uninstalling the drivers manually and forcing an update on the drivers with no avail.
Have tried messing with the BIOS USB Settings on the laptop.
Disabled driver signature enforcement
Tried Safe Mode on both Laptop and Phones
Installed the Universal Google Driver
Installed ADB and fastboot (ADB doesn't detect the phone)
Installed KIES to try the Samsung (Doesn't detect phone)
Tried forcing generic MTP inf files
I'm honestly insanely frustrated and all I want is for this device to show up in my computer so I can install some roms and tinker. I've been trying all I could for the past 24 hours (Lost sleep) with no avail. Nothing seems to be wrong with the USB Ports as I have a Logitech unifying receiver plugged in for a mouse and it works, it just seems like this laptop doesn't like Android devices.
Going to device manager and forcing an update does nothing, the device sometimes shows up as "Unknown Device", sometimes shows up as "LGE Android Net MTP Device" and sometimes as "LGE Android Mtp Device", forcing the update yields the result "The driver installation file for this device is missing a necessary entry, This may be because the INF was written for Windows 95 or later. Contact your hardware vendor" This happens with both the LG and the Samsung. Any help would be appreciated. If anyone needs any more information or logs don't hesitate to ask.
Sure hope you find a solution and post it. I have EXACTLY the same issue. The last paragraph of your description is identical to the error message I am getting.
---------- Post added at 10:41 PM ---------- Previous post was at 09:52 PM ----------
Wow. All I did was uninstall and reinstall Media Player 11 and it started working. No driver error and computer detects phone now.
I followed all the instructions on the Internet by donwloading the flash tool, kmz file, and everything else. I followed all methods and none of them work! When I press Install button when everything is set up in the flash tool, the support tool window does appear, and it always says 'The computer and your phone has been disconnected. Please try again by plugging your phone again." Are there any solutions to this?
p.s. my phone is currently bricked which means that I cannot boot, and I did not enable USB Debugging in Developer Options.
You need to install LG drivers on PC, then you need to enter download mode on your phone. Phone turned off then hold volume up + volume down and connect it to PC via USB cable. It will show download mode on the screen. Only then you can flash new kdz file using LG Flash Tool. If I remember correctly flash tool will show error connecting to server but just ignore it (do not press ok) and just wait for it to finish. It will finish when your phone will power itself on into language configuration etc.
Doesn't work
The message does pop up saying that the USB connection is not properly plugged with my LG G Pro. It says nothing like Server Error
Can you see this on phone screen?

second thing you need LG USB drivers install on your PC:
http://www.lg.com/us/support-mobile/lg-LGE980
1. Run flash tools under administrative mode and Windows 7 compatibility mode if on windows 8+. Even better, use it on Windows 7 machine.
2. don't use USB3 ports.
And make sure you're in download mode, it doesn't need usb debugging to work, but you have to boot it into download mode to be able to use flash tool.
