Hey everyone!
At the moment, I'm using Nexus S and Nexus 7 combo. Nexus S is getting too old to be on par with new software which lags, and since I have the I9023 version, it has SLCD display and camera wasn't as good even for the time when it came out.
So I was thinking, maybe I should sell both devices and add a bit more money to it, and get Note 2?
So I did the math
I lose:
- bigger N7's screen
- Nexus experience
- multiple devices option (battery saving and stuff)
- good reading experience on N7
I get:
- a single device on which everything is done
- Note experience
- by far a better camera
- Super AMOLED display
So I need your opinion, I hope this isn't getting way too boring for you (these questions), does it pay out, since I'd really like Note 2.
I own both, and I hardly use my Nexus 7 now Depends on your usage though, you must already be aware that screen size is significantly smaller - but it's significantly better device in all other respects, and much easier to hold than a tablet obviously. For me, N2 hits the sweet spot. And obviously there's S Pen, which you may or may not use - I do use it a lot for browsing and typing especially.
I just switched from Nexus 7 + Lumia 800 to Note 2. I am very happy with the change. The Nexus was great, I loved it, but I had to carry two devices. Now it is perfect.

the google experience is very beautifull, but it is too thin, too poor of features and uncared for in my opinion, the only good thing is lightening fast updates.
For the rest I sold the Nexus 7 as soon as I took notes 2 and I decided to buy 10.1 Notes and Notes 2 and now I feel really good xD
Get a note 8... best of note 2 in a bigger size. .phone calling included
scribbled from my note 2 (N7100)
Note 8 isn't a phone. It's still a tablet with call facility. Obviously if that's what he's looking for then Note 8's the better choice obviously.

Exactly. But honestly, that is why we have this forum, I can always try some ROM of new Android which is not yet available for Note.
I don't think I'll get Note 8, I can't really carry it around everywhere I go. I'll go for Note 2, already sold my racket I don't use that much, so I need to sell my NS and N7 and that's it.
Question though! Reason I was hesitating was big screen for gaming, and then it hit me - Note does have HDMI output right? So can I fire up say, Asphalt 7 and hook it up to TV, and then just use my phone as a controller?

If the nexus experience is not that important to you then by all means get the note2. Touchwiz is actually bearable and useful on the mote2. Very optimized hardware, software is pretty good and optimized, battery life can't be beat, screen is friggin' awesome especially movie mode for the accuracy, reception is actually pretty dang awesome for a Samsung phone, it is easier to hold than a 7" tablet, the interchangeable battery and expandable storage etc etc...
Yes, there is video out through mhl. I highly recommend getting the official OEM accessories to do it, and there are different methods of getting it like the smart dock, adapters or straight mhl to HDMI cable. I haven't tried games yet, but you might want to consider the input lag that might or might not be there. Video though looks great.

Good to see I'm not the only one with N7 and SGNII I have both devices and don't carry my N7 as much as I used to, but I love it and use it at home, since it's much more convenient, bigger screen, etc. Note II is BIG, but not as big as N7
I had an n7 too, but no longer. The screen is bigger, but I found that the superior display quality of the note 2 factors in in the reading experience. An even better example is my Transformer Pad, which has such an abysmal display compared to the note 2, that I almost read better on my phone in spite of it being a fourth of the screen size.

I would better have note 10.1 with note 2, experience of both tablets and phablets world
I have Note 2 and Note 8 and I'm thinking of selling the Note 8 as I hardly ever use it.

I love my GNex. Running Slim Bean 4.3 latest (highly recommended). Love the device, and it's still in minty condition. Love the totally open platform, timely updates and vibrant developer/user community. Have the T-mobile $30 pre paid plan and it's an excellent value that I want to stay with. Phone is soooooo smooth and pretty much has everything I want.........except LTE.
One of these days, I'll feel the need to upgrade the device for this feature alone. It might be in 6-12 months, certainly not tomorrow.
What's my best option for GNex + LTE in another device?
Nexus 4? Wait for Nexus 5? Galaxy S 3/4? Slim bean support would be a plus.
Google edition phones seem to fit into what you like. I jumped to a s4 from att and honestly can't be more pleased. But I'm sure in 6 to 12 months many things could tilt the smartphone balance. I would say go for the phone with the features you desire and then look into the development side. The S4 Dev is slow but also has solid mods Roms and kernels where many people would just be copying work or making it harder. Just a few things I thought about jumping from my nexus. But as you can tell a new phone did not keep me away. That allows me to play with android 4.3 and then have a quad core touch wiz device.

I have been using my GNex for over 1 year now and it has been a good fit for me. After looking at S4, it seem to be more powerful handset and camera is awesome.
However camera being not so good, is the only drawback I found in this phone. Hopefully the nexus 5 or whatever new device from Google should address this thing. May be u should wait for early next year when Google comes up with the new phone. It's only a speculation that they would be launching one next year.
Let's see what the new Nexus and Note III hold .
If I'd have to make the change today, and to be honest I thought of it, I'd stay away from:
- Samsung - poor build quality, too much plastic
- lack of microSD slots - microSD cards are VERY cheap compared to internal upgrades so that kinda puts on a side the Nexus program
On the other side, these seem like a good option:
- Motorola - pretty good build quality, the posibility of having a qwerty slider (but only with an unlocked bootloader) - Moto X, the future Droid 5
- Sony - openness, pretty good quality - Xperia Z, whatever takes its place
Just my two cents..
The HTC One is a beautiful device and very fast. The camera is quite OK on stock ROM (and with the camera software ported to vanilla Android), but it's a bit meh with the AOSP camera software.
I like the S4's specs and it looks quite OK, until I see its back; it's so darn glossy...
If it would be available in the Netherlands, I would go for the Moto X; it has such a bunch of nifty features on an almost vanilla Android. Combined with great battery life, it would be a fun daily driver.
So really, I'm waiting for the Nexus 5 as I think the Note 3 will have the same awful plasticy back as the other Samsung devices (thankfully the GNex doesn't). The Play Store Nexus 4 is a steal for the price over there these days too, but I'm in a country where it's not possible to buy hardware in there
Myself having a s4 my lady a s3 and sister in law s2 and lets not forget the nexus I dont see samsungs build quality low. Sd card was a big thing that bugged me about the nexus. Also something to consider. You can always wait for the next best device... but you will always be waiting because there will always be something better next. Get a device you want and use the hell out of it

Well, after the Nexus 4 price cut, it seems a pretty sure bet that there will be a new Nexus phone within a the time frame of a couple of months.
Considering the flak the Nexus 4 received for not having (accessible) LTE, as well as the new Google Play edition phones packing T-Mobile LTE, it would be surprising if the new Nexus phone didn't have it.
Considering you're on a T-Mobile plan without subsidized phones, the Nexus device should be an obvious competitor.
When Did You All Purchase Your AT&T Note 4? Any Tint? Charcoal Black or White? What is the date of manufacturing according to Samsung's website?
You can find this information when registering your device as you enter the serial number.
I'm trying to narrow my buying choices now between the Note 4, Nexus 6, and iPhone 6 Plus.
The Note 4 is silky smooth. I have the iPhone 6, and I hardly pick it up now. I use the 6 as my daily driver, and the NOTE has become my reading device.
I had a 6 Plus for about a week before I exchanged it for a Note 4. Just couldn't get used to the iOS way of doing things. It also didn't want to play nice with my truck's Sync. Joanna was always complaining about not being able to find the iPhone, even after master resets.
You don't happen to work for Samsung, do you? Just kidding.
I did play with a iPhone 6+ demo unit, but didn't like the fact it was built mainly for the iOS ecosystem. I find Android very versatile, it seems now its between the Note 4 and Nexus 6 (both having AMOLED displays). Not sure about the Quality Control of Samsung though.

The question really becomes what you want out of your phone.
PreOrdered October 14. (what tint?)
Note provides a different experience. Spen functions ( snote etc).
While not an issue if you want to run touchwiz free android.
Really if you don't care for spen then any high end android device out there can suffice.
Then the choice falls between ios vs android.
You guys forget to mention multitasking windows, I'll find it very useful recently when open 3 apps at the same times with Note 4

True but... multi-windows can be achieved with custom roms... or third party apps...
Bought mine 2 weeks ago. No tint, dead pixels, etc. Beauty of a phone. I buried it in an OtterBox though.
I recieved my black Note 4 last Tuesday. As far as I can tell, it was manufactured in October. No issues whatsoever. Best phone I've had to date.
Bought at ATT store, no issues with the screen or the phone in general. In fact if it were not so locked down the phone would be awesome.
Same was hoping it could be the last phone I buy for awhile but with it being so locked down it'll just be decent unless by some miracle we get a workaround to extend its life.
Hi everyone,
As you guys know the note 7 is extremely pricey, most of the improvements came in sense of software because honestly speaking, iv played with the note 7 and it doesn't feel snappier or quicker to me than a note 5, maybe that's just me.
I wanted to know if the software features such as the s pen features eg creating the jif , screen scaling to 720p etc software updates will become a software update to the note 5?
If that's the case then I honestly don't see a reason in buying a note 7 as all those features are just nice to have and not something most people are going to use on a daily basis.

These days phones can't have amazing updates anymore as there are so much frequent releases. Especially with the S series and the Note series. The major improvments come to those that upgrade on a 2 year cycle like myself so going from Note 4 > 7 there is a remarkable difference in everything. Camera, screen, speed, fingerprints etc
If you feel like the jump isn't worth it to you then i'd say follow your gut feeling and soon enough the next one will be out and you can jump on that.
I actually rock a blackberry priv and have the note 5 laying around some where in the house because the storage was atrocious. Got the 32gb form.
Was just hoping that it may now be worth picking up again if they were going to upgrade the software of the note 5.
But if that's the case il just not invest in a smart phone for a while.
I just wanted to see who would be switching from android to ios due to the recent discontinued Note 7 lineup. I personally have ordered a iphone 7 plus to see how it will work out. Leave your comments below to share your feelings.

Nop, I like my coffee like I like my phone. Under my control. Don't get me wrong if some one offers me iPhone ill gladly accept but if I have to buy a phone then I like to have as much control over it as possible even tho i dont need that much control but its not to have control.
I'm not giving up on android but after the note 7 fiasco, I'm breaking my loyalty with Sammy. I purchased an op3 and i'm just waiting for it to arrive.
Leaving samsung, and not just because of the note 7, but because of the note 4. Like xateeq, I like control over devices. I'm just gonna wait till a phone I'm interested in gets full perm root and devs within a reasonable amount of time before I buy it regardless of manufacturer (with exceptions of apple and samsung products which I'll never get again)

I ran an iPhone last week for a week (6s+), just to see how I'd like it: meh. Even with Android being locked down like our Note 4, it natively does more than iOS. And I'm not charged a fortune for every single app. I ran Spiderman 2, Real Racing 3, and Dead Trigger 2 for a week on both. If you set the graphics to high on Android, looked just as nice. After initial loading, load times were identical enough to be inconsequential. And iPhone has no S Pen. I'm also testing out an s7 Edge, which has no S Pen but has Samsung Pay which I've used A LOT. Still, death of Note 7 removes my next choice. So now, I'm stuck debating whether the Note 5 would suffice, or Axon 7, or v20.
If only another manufacturer offered S-Pen functionality and accuracy..
Note 5 isn't much of an upgrade as compared to our Note 4, and the Note 7 has been discontinued..also I've heard Android N for Sammy is more locked down than M, so I'm not sure if the Note 8 (or whatever the next Gen Note is) can ever be rooted..
See me personally, I don't mind not being able to control my device but I have been pretty loyal to samsung all the way back since the s3 and I just find that my battery life and other things are really bad. I wanted to switch just to see how things would be.

My first smartphone was an iPhone 3G then I had an iPhone 4. After that I switched to Android. I have enjoyed my Android phones way more. I had a S3 then got the Note 4. I am not unhappy with my Note 4, just wish I could root. Rest of device I have no complaints. My next phone was going to be a Note 7, but now I will just wait till next year. Nothing currently peaks my interest enough to spend $800 or more on a cell phone. I have some interest in the Pixel XL and Galaxy S7 Edge, but not enough to get one. My brother and dad have iPhone's. They work for them, but even with all the changes since iPhone 4, it is not enough for me to come back. I like having control of my device. Also, I would never get an iPhone 7 or any future iOS Devices since no headphone jack.
If anyone wants when I get my iphone to let them know how it's working for me let me know.

After reading that news and still two years on waiting for the Note4 to be unlocked(which will never happen), I am going to leave Samsung and switch to Sony. The idevices can kiss my ass, never going to back IOS

If Samsung sells it en masse on contract to the US government, it'll never be rooted. Hopefilly after the Note 7 fiasco (especially with Samsung trying to rush it out ahead of iPhone 7 without fully testing), the government will avoid Note 8, hence increased likelihood of root.
By kid & my wife both wanted iPhones, but I can't bring myself to using it... doesn't do as much as Android IMO. I'll keep running my Note 4 and wait for Samsung to live down this boo-boo and come up with Note 8 that won't blow up.

I had a hard time trying to decide on what to move on with. Wanted note 7 originally but that's not happening. Wife has iPhone 6 but I'm not big iPhone fan. Love Android. Ended up with a nexus 6p. Half the cost and I can do what ever I want to it. Running 7.1.1 developer preview and it's great. This should do me fine till next year when new devices start coming out.
I had an iphone. Hated it. I do not work the way they want me to work. Let me design my own workflow. Apple ID losing money for the first time in 15 years. Other companies are innovating faster.
I've used lots of phones. LG had severe quality issues, and make sure you never have to get a replacement phone. I swore they just put broken phones back into boxes and mailed them to people as replacements. I got phones that were caked in mud. No kidding. Each replacement 3 or 4 of them was worse than the previous one.
HTC was good. As was Motorola.
But I just love my note 4. No reason to upgrade yet. It's been the perfect phone. I have Samsung TVs, tablets, etc. I like that everything works together. Samsung is innovating very well these days and is nipping on Apple's heals. I'll get the note 8 when it comes out.
As much as I want to switch from note line, I can't let go of the stylus functions. I love I can cut and past pictures and screen shot etc. Can't do that with any phone.
I'll be sticking with my Note 4..as a matter of fact, I'm planning on getting a used non-ATT Note 4 if I can get one for cheap, as I'm not that too impressed with the Note 5 and Note 7 has been pulled off, and I can't let go of the S-Pen Functionality.
I'm also looking at getting a Tab A with S-Pen as a work device, instead of getting a new Note phone if another one comes out..
My phone started behaving bad (random reboots, lags) despite factory reseting and downgrading firmware. I had to buy a new phone. I ended up buying a Samsung Galaxy S7 Edge International (SM-G935F). I flashed the Australian (XSA) firmaware on it, and I am very pleased. The phone works wonderfully without any hiccups. It's fully supported through monthly firmware updates, and it has many additional features such as Samsung Pay. I don't even see a reason to root the phone yet. Everything is great, however I do miss the IR blaster and the S-Pen. I'm also scared to drop the phone (glass everywhere, very slippery) even with the Spigen Neo Hybrid case on it.
