Hello I have a galaxy tab pro 12.2 ( canada version )
i have try a custom rom but did not like it , so i have load the original rom with Odin, that went fine .
I know there is and update for my that tablet but when it try to download the new firmware it says :
connecting to server......your device has been modified . software updates are not available
so when i go in settings >> device >> About Tab >> status >> device status >>
it says........ custom
so just wondering if there is a way to format or do something else to be able to have the update work again ..
thank you
are you rooted? do you have a custom recovery?
either of those things will keep an OTA from installing
well i have installed a custom rom before but i have downwload and install what I was thinking to be an origninal firmware for the tablet
which app i can use to check if it is rooted ? presently i have root checker and it say root access is not properly installed on this device
android version it says 4.4.2
Do you have super su nstalled?
Sent from my SM-T320 using Tapatalk
I just try to install it and it say there is no su binary installed , and supersu cannot install it .
im officially not rooted
but i have the custom in the box device status
do you have stock recovery?
that where my geek side stop ...not sure how to confirm that to you at 100% , as mention before I think that what I have install last with ODIN a stock recovery
but again i don't know where to really be sure
did you ever flash a custom recovery like TWRP or CWM?
do you know how to boot into recovery?
yes i did
thats why your device says modified; you have to have stock recovery, and not be rooted to take OTA updates..
ok...... so im just wondering what I can do to be able to have those OTA update ?
go back rooted and bypass the custom notification with wanam xposed?
like I said, you need to be on stock firmware, and stock recovery to get OTA updates
ok i can download again a stock firmware that fine ...in process
but what is a stock recovery
It's the recovery that was on the tablet when you first got it
Sent from my SM-T320 using Tapatalk
sorry for my stupid question but what is the difference then between stock firmware and stock recovery ...
again ...i dont want to take all your time ...

Pictured is stock recovery for my Mega. What you need to do is power off your phone then hold (same time) the Power, Vol. Up buttons until you see at the top left "Recovery Booting" Then use the Volume down key to highlight "wipe data/factory reset" then press the power button. Then use Vol. Down key until Yes-- delete all user data, then hit the power key. Once it's done the first screen will pop back up and highlight "wipe cache partition and hit power key. Once that's done, back to first screen and "reboot system now". Now on my Tab Pro 8.4 I sometimes have to Odin flash again to get rid of the System Custom status.
ok here the last improvement
I have do what you told me with the recovery thing ...took me some time since the only stock recovery i was able to find was in IMG format ...I have to convert it to TAR with cygwin
after I have format like you mention
took few more sec to reboot but once reboot ...Im at 4.4.2 with device status ...OFFICIAL
that a great good sign
I do have try to look for an update ... but it says the last update have been install....
at least i think im where I was trying to be ....thank you so much for your time , patience and straight information
Thank's again

Okay just rooted my galaxy s 2 with the auto root, I want to install roms using rom manager but sometimes it will rom manager has denied super user permission but other times it will not say it all and it will download complete I hit install rom wipe everything then a triangle with an exclamation mark in it and the android dude on the side pops up and stays there, I take the battery out then put it back in and it takes me to the recovery system but it only says reboot now, apply update, wipe data, and wipe cache with the triangle with an exclamation mark in it and the android dude still showing behind it. Any clue to what can be wrong?
Sounds like you haven't flashed a custom recover, if you have unlocked the bootloader already then you may be able to flash clockworkmod recovery from within rom manager,
Not sure I have an evo 3d
Sent from my PG86100 using Tapatalk
What do you mean by haven't unlocked bootloader?
I hold the vol. down, power and home button at the same time then vol up to continue it says Odin Mode, product name SPH-D710, Custom Binary download: NO, Current Binary: Samsung official....Downloading do not turn off target!! Been on the screen for a while now.

No u just need Clockwork Mod recovery to flash a rom rom manager won't do it, I had this problem and really rooted again with a method that included clockwork mod in it. I have a Mac so I don't think it'll be the same way but try this. If u can go to the ACS website they are always easier.

First, just to make sure, you wrote Galaxy S 2 in your OP, but you are on the E4GT (Sprint) version correct?
If you are, and used sfhub's Auto Root, did you proceed to option 'C'? If not, you have not yet installed a custom recovery, which is what you need to install custom ROMs.
Try this, hold [Power] + [Vol. Up] at the same time for several seconds (30+.) If you are booted into CWM recovery, you will be all set to flash ROMs, if not you still need a kernel with CWM (option C in the auto root process.) Based on your comments in the OP, you do not have a custom recovery. I believe you described the stock recovery.
Easiest thing to do is go back to the Auto Root batch file and complete option C. This will give you recovery without increasing your custom software counter (counter = bad for warranty.)
Yes I'm with sprint and no I didn't proceed with c thanks for informing me I will try to see if it works. Thanks.
Hi,
I have galaxy nexus yakju it was running android 4.1.1. Then i rooted the phone. After the 4.2 update got release to get early update i flashed takju4.1.2 ROM and updated it to 4.2 using the ADB Update option in recovery.
then i rooted the device it was working fine, to test some other ROMs i installed TWRP recovery for 4.2. Before installing ROMS i took the backup. Im not satisfied with ROM so i restored Backup.
Currently im running rooted android 4.2 with TWRP recovery. Everything is fine but suddenly today i got OTA update to 4.2.1.(i dont think i should get OTA updates since i dont have stock recovery and i rooted). Since im very curious person i installed the update.
it installed the update successfully , now im running 4.2.1. But unfortunately it Unrooted my device and replaced my recovery with stock.
When i enter into recovery by pressing volume Down+power button , when the device is showing lying android symbol, it says 'updating' msg and there are no options other than start which will eventually start the normal boot process.
Now how can i flash stock 4.2 ROM and stock recovery?
that sleeping android is the stock recovery.. press volume up + power to boot into it
First of all, why would you not just keep 4.2.1 and root that?
Also everything that has happened is perfectly normal, and you should indeed get OTA's if you only rooted it, and if your recovery supports it, you can install them as well.
If you really do want to get back to 4.2, just flash the stock image from google and root it from there by flashing a recovery from fastboot and then using that recovery to flash superuser and su binary, but you might as well stay in 4.2.1 and just do the latter.
and yes that sleeping android is the stock recovery.

I did tried volume down_ power button. But the recovery menu is something different than its used to be. It has 'start' button as it is in fast boot, and big title in middle saying 'Updating', other than that there are no options.
i think i should flash 4.2 stock rom from google using toolkit, which will over rite my current recovery, if there is a problem with recovery it will solve it.
Let me know if im doing it wrong.
Thanks
Issue fixed
Flashed stock 4.2 image using toolkit, now recovery is working fyn when i press volume down + power button. And updated to 4.1.2 also.
But i got rpc:S-5:AEC-0 error while trying to download apps from market. im still searching for solution. gonna post it here if i cant find it anywhere.
Thanks everyone.
Need help here, i unable to install cwm to my grand, try more thank 5 times , following the guide, but still failed, always when i want to enter cwm after reboot, it will go to manual mode, and android pic with open stomach with red sign appears , haha, need help here, why its happend?? :silly:
The first time I installed CWM, I had to untick the Auto Reboot option on Odin, and after it successfully flashed the recovery I unplugged the device and removed the battery. Place back the battery, then go directly to the recovery (press home+power+volume up in the same time). If you just turn on the device normally, Samsung's firmware will overwrite CWM with stock Android recovery.
And from there... you can just install any custom ROM you want

If you wish to stay stock but keeping the CWM, there is an option to fix recovery when you reboot the system... that way the firmware will not overwrite CWM...
I forgot which CWM/Philz Touch/TWRP has that feature... maybe check the pinned threads in General Section.
I recommend installing GENNEXT rom from balliboxer if you wish to stay stock and rooted... it's much less laggy than official 4.2.2

Hello Vatsalbh9, follow the steps in video to root your phone.
1. Yes you need to root your device to use custom recovery.
2 & 3. You need to use odin first to get cwm recovery installed in your phone. Follow video steps.
4. When you have installed cwm recovery mode with odin, just go to recovery mode (keep holding vol up+power+home button until samsung galaxy grand gt i9082 logo appears on screen). Der you will see backup option. So make a nandroid backup in your external sd card and transfer that backup (clockworkmod folder in your ext sd card) in your laptop or pc for future use.
Download the files given in the description of the video.

i will do accordingly and if any further query exists, will ask...

Follow these steps for nandroid backup :-
1. Enter into recovery mode(vol up+power+home button)
2. U will see many options like - reboot system, install from zip, wipe data... Bla bla bla... And BACKUP AND RESTORE
3. Select Backup & Restore option.
4. Once u select it, again many options will come but choose backup on ext sd card/sdcard01
5. Nandroid backup will take around 5-10 mins depending upon your data size.
6. Once the process is complete, you will see a text written on bottom of screen 'Backup is complete'.... Go back to previous menu and reboot your phone.
7. You will find "clockworkmode" folder in your ext sd card. This folder contains your nandroid backup. Transfer this folder to another safe location like pc or laptop.
Note.. While in cwm recovery mode, use vol up and down key for navigation and power key for selecting any particular option.
Also dont increase comments for saying thanks, just press the thanks button
For installing any custom rom, download and save the rom, GApps in your ext sd card and flash them in cwm recovery mode.
Steps for installing rom will be given in respective rom threads but generally these steps are to be performed :-
1. Wipe data/factory reset
2. Wipe cache partition
3. Wipe dalvik cache
4. Install rom(zip)
Once installation is complete, install GApps
5. Wipe cache partition
6. Wipe delvik cache
7. Reboot your phone.
First boot of every custom rom will take a longer time to boot.. Varying from 3-10 mins, so dont panic.
Also some custom roms require latest version of cwm recovery, so before installing custom rom, download the recovery and flash it..
1. In cwm( if it is a zip file)
Or
2. In odin( if it is a. Img or. Tar file)

Redo the process.... I think cwm is not installed on ur phone yet. When you see pass in odin.. Just remove the battery manually... Wait for 5-6 seconds.. Den reboot your phone.. Once a normal reboot is completed... Den go to recovery mode....
Hope u get it this time.

And is it necessary to flash supersu via CWM for installing custom rom ? Or only CWM is enough ?

No it isnt the latest version, but it will help you to proceed further. Once you get this cwm recovery mode, you can easily flash latest version as well.. And there will be a link given for recommend recovery in rom thread.
No it isnt necessary to flash super su as all cm11 based roms have inbuilt super su with them.
I already have custom ROM and 4.4.4 KitKat . I am very happy that I did it by the help of XDA forum
When can i get Android L update .

Seems like you dont have usb drivers installed properly in your pc. Does the ID:Com turns into blue color when you connect your phone to pc? If not then install samsung kies first on ur pc.
See d screenshot... The portion circled should be blue... Before hitting start.

I didnt immediately took off the battery... I let the fon boot after flashing... I think im making a mistake there... cz I had checked auto reboot in my attempts...

When Odin will display Pass, I will disconnect fon from usb and then take off the battery...
Will wait for 15 secs and then will try to boot into recovery mode...
Hope its all done... Fingers crossed...
And I have to release all three buttons(up+home+power)when galaxy grand logo appears... is it right ?

Boot into download mode to confirm that the model is a sgh-i747. Also, look on the download screen to see if there is any mention of "Knox" or "warranty bit" and report back. Knowing these two things will definitely help others help you find a solution.

You are on at least a 4.3 bootloader, you could be on a 4.4.2 bootloader. The warranty bit at 1 tells us that, audit13 will know for sure. (I am on the NE4 bootloader and my Warranty Bit reads 1.) But do not do anything that may downgrade bootloader and modem. It would be best to determine which before you proceed.
If you can boot into recovery mode and there is a custom recovery installed we may be able to get the specific versions installed. There is an excellent chance you have a custom recovery since your previous output shows the device has had a custom rom installed at one time. To boot into recovery, hold at the same time: Volume Up, Home, and Power.
If the phone boots into TWRP, a custom recovery, go to the Advanced Tab. Once there, select the Terminal Command tab. Enter these two commands:
Code:
getprop ro.bootloader
getprop | grep version.baseband
Do you know anything about what ROMs had been installed on it in the past? Only stock (doubtful), custom based on TouchWiz (Samsung's stock rom), a Cyanogen based rom, or an AOSP based rom? If on either of the last two, do you know if it was a Lollipop (Android 5.x.x) or Marshmallow (Android 6.0).
If it turns out you do not have a custom recovery installed, but it is a stock recovery, your solution may be as simple as doing a factory reset from within the stock recovery. This corrects more than one problem. It proves necessary at times when coming back from a Lollipop or Marshmallow rom to stock or stock based roms.

Best thing to do in this case would be to try a factory reset and see if the phone boots.
If the phone doesn't boot, I recommend flashing twrp and a custom rom to at least confirm the bootloader and that the phone functions on a basic level.
