[Q] M919 LTE band confirmation please - T-Mobile Samsung Galaxy S 4

I have two M919 phones: The T-Mobile M919 and the MetroPCS M919N. They are the same phone with different branding I believe and have used both with the same flashing software, dialer codes, replacement hardware parts, etc.
I unlocked both phones as detailed in my thread in this forum.
What I need is: In the Band Selection Menu, What is default for LTE Band Preference?
I dialed *#2263# to access the menu. I have an asterisk next to Automatic in one phone and nothing in the other.
Under LTE Band Preference, I see 9) LTE ALL selected. What is the correct band to chose for T-Mobile LTE on either a T-Mobile or Metro branded Galaxy S4 M919?

[Q] GSM/HSDPA/LTE bands for T-Mobile S4 (SGH-M919)

Hi there,
Can anyone confirm for sure and tested the following question:
How many bands for GSM, HSDPA and LTE does the T-Mobile Galaxy S4 (M919) have? Are they the same bands as the International S4 LTE (I9505)?
Based on the wikipedia page for Samsung Galaxy S4, the model I9505 has more LTE bands than the T-Mobile M919 version, is that completely true and technically proven?
Most of the websites state that the M919 and the I9505 has the same bands for all GSM, HSDPA and LTE.
I appreciate if someone can lead me to the ultimate answer.

Tmobile uses AWS for 4g LTE which requires 2100/1700 frequency. The GT-i9505 only supports 2100mhz i believe, which is not enough.
I think the GT-i9505 supports one of the several frequencies that Tmobile uses for HDSPA, so HDSPA coverage may be a bit spotty with the phone. This was referenced off the top of my head, but I had done some research online about this before as I had similar questions as you.

I9505 lacks the 1700MHz LTE band which is needed in T-Mobile LTE.

Hey so looking at the wiki that you guys posted up there it says following for the tmobile version: 700 MHz (Band 17), CLR, AWS, PCS, IMT, IMT-E
now i somehow got my hand on one of these devices in europe for rather cheap and totally new, so im confused now what these CLR, AWS, PCS, IMT, IMT-E are, does any of these stand for any other than the 700mhz band? like 1700/1800mhz? or in other words, is it possible to get lte to work in europe with the tmobile usa s4? Can the modem perhaps be flashed with an i9505 one and than get the additional bands or is the hardware actualyl that different (as in antennas and amplifiers)?
Its not really a dealbreaker for me as LTE in my country is quite some time away but still, would like to know.

In simple words, the LTE bands are (not in order): Band 1 (2100), Band 2 (1900), Band 4 (1700), Band 5 (850), Band 7 (2600), Band 17 (700), so we have the LTE bands available for the T-Mobile version: 700, 850, 1700, 1900, 2100 and 2600.

No, you can't flash a I9505 rom to a M919 device, if you do, you will brick it. The best option for you to get 800 and 1800 frequencies is to go for the GT-I9505, it's the Samsung Galaxy S4 LTE version, and it has the following bands for LTE Cat 3 (800 / 850 / 900 / 1,800 / 2,100 / 2,600 MHz). Yes, it seems that the I9505 has LTE bands for each region, it's not dedicated for America (North, Central and South), it also support Europe and Asia, while it doesn't contain most bands for a specific region, it's a world phone, unlucky doesn't fully support T-Mobile 4G UTMS network (1700/2100), but still a good option for those who travel to other continents.

Flashing just the modem doesn't work either?
I haven't tried flashing modems into another devices that don't correspond to their own. I can't help you with that answer at this time

i asked that because i have an att atrix, on which its possible to flash european modems without a problem, thanks for your time man, i hope someone will try this and it works
Question...are all those other things i've been hearing about other ppl successfully getting 4g reception after doing something to either with the aws band's, or to the software true? does anyone know for sure? i'm very thankful for any input, as i've been hearing so many conflicting things when it comes to the i9505 and getting 4g service with t-mobile, i just want a proven answer :/

I bought my S4 T-mobile (SGH-M919) in USA. And it is fine working in Spain with 4G. But when i have upgraded it to Marshmallow then only works with HSPA(H+) as better. Change baseband? i am not sure to do it...mmmm

[Solved][Q] LT28at Flashed with baseband LT28i now LTE not working

Hi Everyone,
I been searching the forums but unable to find an answer to this question. I have a LT28at (AT&T Xperia ion) and i flashed it with the baseband of LT28i (from .69 package). Now the phone will not pick up t-mobile LTE bands. I was wondering if there is anyway i could manupulate it to pick up LTE whenever it detects it and still have AWS bands for HSPA+? I am in the SF Bay Area where t-mobile has LTE.

Change "WCDMA preferred" to "LTE(preferred/WCDMA/GSM"
If you are not getting LTE
I would check to make sure the APN info is there first. From what I understand this device does not work well on Tmo as it does not support the 1700 band. But if your in a spot that Tmo is using the shared 1900 band it should work. I have never tried so cant be much more help than that.
My apn is correct... It is set to fast.t-mobile.com. So I know it's not the apn settings.
have you tried to flash all the complete firmware?

I am getting LTE now I fixed it in the settings LT28at does support LTE AWS and been using LTE on AWS for T-Mobile.
So my screen with *#*#7378423#*#* -> configuration shows the following:
"Working band/s:"
GSM 850, GSM900, GSM1800, GSM1900, UMTS_BC1 (2100), UMTS_BC2 (1900), UMTS_BC4 (1700), UMTS_BC5(850), LTE_BC4 (AWS which T-Mobile uses), LTE_BC17 (700 AT&T)
Also Once the Flashed LT28i baseband the default was set to WCDMA preferred that is why I could not get LTE. But I fixed it with *#*#4636#*#* and set it to LTE (preferred)/WCDMA/GSM

That's correct. Then the question is, does flashing the baseband actually change the frequencies used by the phone? I didn't think it did but now it sounds like flashing the international baseband enables the 1700 frequency.

It seems so. The original a authors of the threads are the ones to give credits to. I was simply asking how to enable LTE back after the international baseband flash. Everything works great! 1900 bands picks up really well for 1900 band reframed on T-Mobile. When I get into a zone with AWS1700/2100 it changes over pretty quickly. As for LTE, it picks it up whenever the LTE is available. Currently I am using Open Signal's widget to see what kind of bands it picks up.

I'm considering the Ion for my next phone for T-Mobile. So can you tell me are you happy with the LT28AT on T-Mobile? Are you getting 4G and LTE?

Anyone running a T-Mobile note 4 on at&t?

Considering selling my at&t note 4 when my pre-order is filled and buying a T-Mobile version to use on at&t.

No issues for me at all. Get great service everywhere, including lte
I was planning on doing so, but I noticed the T-Mobile variant is missing of the LTE Bands that the AT&T one has. Not sure if that will create any problems down the road. Any thoughts on if that matters?

ATT is not using those 2 bands in the US. (20 and 29 lte) It might be for international use in which case I'd rather have the tmobile ones. Anyway, according to Wikipedia they don't even own spectrum in one of those bands so deployment is years off even if they decide to do it. Plus the note 4 would have to go through the FCC again because it wasn't approved to run on those bands in the USA. Those extra bands are not anything to be worried about.
EDIT: Ok, I found some more info. There are no deployments of band 29 in the US yet. Band 29 is downlink only and is used with band 4. This will be AT&T's LTE advanced setup.
Thanks for the info! Time to go to TMobile and get me an unlocked Note 4.. Will they unlock them for you right in the store or no?

Ya, been reading up on it. I still think it will be a while before it gets deployed and probably if you're not in a big city you'll have to wait longer like the wait for LTE.

So let me ask you, when you say the T-Mobile version is missing the advanced lte bands (20&29), does that mean the phone will only miss the benefit of the next gen lte speeds?
So for example, 20&29 go live in my area, I have the tmo version, I'll still have lte just not super/advanced lte?

Can any of you with a T-Mobile device on a different network tell me what service you used to unlock your phone? I saw a mention of cellunlocker.net on one thread, but it says on their site it could take up to 15 days to get the unlock for the T-Mobile Note 4. Is this typical? I've never used one of these services, so I don't know what the better routes are. Thanks!
Att lte advanced has been deployed in NYC since the iPhone 6. It's fast but tmobile is faster I think.

How is network performance using the TMO version on AT&T? Last year with the Note 3, I had such horrible LTE reception I took it back. T-Mobile devices are not optimized for band 17 support. It comes down to: you want a phone that gets a great signal, or you want a phone you can root/rom.

How is network performance using the TMO version on AT&T? Last year with the Note 3, I had such horrible LTE reception I took it back. T-Mobile devices are not optimized for band 17 support. It comes down to: you want a phone that gets a great signal, or you want a phone you can root/rom.

From what I have seen everything should be working fine. If you live in a city that has LTEa you will miss or on improved performance with band 29, but that should not effect most people.

Just to add my 2 cents...
I went from a At&T Note3 to TMO Note4
Just put my Note 3 Sim into the Note 4 and am up and running for about a week now...
When I log in to my ATT online account it still shows The Note 3 though but as I said all is well for now.

T-Mobile bands...

I'm VERY concerned about buying this phone now. T-Mobile have only listed LTE bands 4 & 17 on their site.

LTE - B2/B4/B12/B17 with CA + B3/B7 roaming
This is the perfect T-Mobile phone.
So the T-Mobile version does not have 1700, and is therefore identical to the other models? Do we know if it includes wifi-calling, or if we would be able to flash the T-Mobile ROM onto the unlocked dev version?

But doesn't the AT&T, Unlocked, or Dev model include all of those bands and then some?

It does have 1700! That's Band 4, and for both LTE and HSPA.
The T-Mobile version also supports WiFi calling and texting. I have no idea if the T-Mobile firmware can be flashed to the unlocked version, but I don't see why it wouldn't be feasible.

T-Mobile (Des) confirmed: 2, 3, 4, 7, 12, and 17
AT&T lists: 2, 3, 4, 5, 7, 12, 17, and 29 (adds +5 and +29)
HTC Dev & Unlocked versions (per HTC on Twitter): 2, 3, 4, 5, 7, 12, 13, 17, 29, 30 (adds +5, +13, +29, +30)
Maybe the T-Mo phone supports more that could be unlocked, who knows. The extra bands aren't useful to me.

HTC has done this on the past couple of phones. Only the T-Mobile phone will do their specific bands (HSPA+). On past models I don't recall anyone getting the ATT/DEV models to work with those T-Mobile bands. I don't believe we ever found out why. Some speculated it was due to cost to license all the bands, or that it is actually different hardware. The M7 and M8 were both like that.
If you are on T-Mobile, I'd get the model specifically for them.

Oh yeah I remember my Dev version being like that. Fortunately, I live in an area that has been upgraded to mostly lte. This was actually beneficial for me and maybe others in the same situation because it actually saves battery life when the phone isn't constantly switching between edge, 3g/+, and lte. I'm sure many others have been in an area that's barely out of lte but still within h+ range and it's still slow as edge or even slower.

Yes, it is OK if you live in a major area that has lots of LTE. Here just north of LA, I get into the other bands pretty frequently.
I am not sure this was answered? Do all versions of the HTC one m 9 support band 4 UMTS? Many ATT carrier unlocked models are for sale and no one seems to know if they will pick up the UMTS 1700 band 4 on T- Mo?

They will not pick up the T-Mobile specific bands, which use 1900/2100 for 41bps speed. They will work with the T-Mobile LTE band.
Wow, still a mystery. I have the AT&T SIM Unlocked One M9 and I have a TMobile prepaid SIM and get Edge, 3G, 4G, LTE Band 2,4,12...I cannot find an app that shows the actual WCDMA (4G) Bands ? But, it notates 42 MBPS when it says HSPA+ 4G using Network Signal Info-Pro App..and also shows 384 Kbps when it says 3G....
So, seems Des is correct unless the Network Signal Info Pro app is wrong?
I turned off everything except WCDMA, and this is what I get being reported by LTE Discovery. HSPA+ @ -113. I have a ATT unlocked M9. I do have the T-Mobile 2.11.531.19 firmware installed as well as the T-Mobile rom.

Thanks but as I mentioned I cannot find an App that shows the WCDMA Bands to confirm. As you can see even LTE Discovery says N/A for DL and UL Freq...when on WCDMA...
The only App I can see that helps is Network Signal Info Pro...and unfortunately it is limited and shows me the below in my market;
HSPA+ 42.2 MBPS
HSDPA 7.2 MBPS
UMTS 386 KBPS
But, does not indicate which Band or Frequency ?
Anyone know of an App or Command that will show WCDMA Bands???

Yes, flashing T-Mob US (I assume you mean US, since you are talking AT&T) firmware or RUU will change band support, and you will lose some LTE bands.
According to the specs on GSMarena, with the T-Mob firmware, you will have support for LTE bands 4 and 17; and will lose support for 2, 5, and 7.

Just flashing the ROM, you won't change the band support.
But again, I'm curious what carrier you are actually using the phone on?

Should work fine.
Being on T-Mob US, and using AT&T radio baseband (part of the firmware that determines band support) should be fine for the most part. Reason I say this is:
1) ATT radio supports the same LTE bands as the T-Mob radio (4 and 17), and then some.
2) ATT radio is missing HSPA (3G) Band 4 (AWS). This used to be the band most widely used by T-Mob for 3G. But my understanding, is that they are well underway in migrating 3G service to 1900 MHz (Band 2) which is supported by the ATT radio.
3) The only "negative" to staying on the ATT radio, that I can see, is that if you happen to be in area where T-Mob is still using AWS for 3G , and you don't have LTE service in that area, either. In that instance, your data will drop down to EDGE (2G). I don't really have an idea of how widespread this situation may be; but I have a feeling its relatively small.

Yea thats why I got an unlocked ATT m8 instead of a tmobile one for the extra lte bands. I have yet to run into band 2 lte and all the aws hspa has been reused for lte. Luckily.
