On my Note 8, I sometimes get the keyboard with the microphone and sometimes I get a different keyboard.
In the Kindle app, I can type but not dictate annotations. I have checked the various keyboards (Galaxy, Skype, Ki, etc.) in Settings, but to no avail.
Is there a way to make the keyboard with the voice input option available to all the apps we use?

There's been quite a few posts on this forum pointing out that the Jellybean bluetooth voice dialler is broken.
For those who don't use bluetooth, this is a separate app that pops up when you press the dial button on a bluetooth headset or in a car.
Although it is a separate app to voice search it seems to use the technology and has been updated for JB.
For some people it works, for others it doesn't work.
In the cases where it doesn't work, reverting to ICS or installing a 3rd party dialer fixes the problem.
In my case it seems to really like a small sub-group of contacts and seems to select them no matter what I say into the mic.
Unfortunately installing a 3rd party dialer means google Now/voice search must be completely disabled.
Plus, there are reports that some of the 3rd party apps will not use the headset mic, but instead use the phone mic which makes them useless.
Anyway, I'm wondering if anybody who knows about ROM modding could tell me whether it is possible to make a mod to either:
1. Revert to ICS bluetooth/voice dialler, but keep google now/voice search when not using bluetooth.
2. Allow custom bluetooth/voice dialler to be selected (currently not allowed unless google now/voice searchis completely disabled).
3. Pre-install some other 3rd party bluetooth/voice dialler.
Thanks.

I agree...it's a must have. I am a heavy user of my car bluetooth and keep my nexus paired all the time. after my upgrade to JB, this feature seems to more or less broken and only dial few of my contacts. I need to search my phonebook using the car system buttons, which is not at all convenient in heavy traffic situations.
There seems to be no other option then to revert back to ICS till voice dialing is fixed by the devs.
Like others, I absolutely depend on the voice dialing to work correctly as I use it in two different vehicles with bluetooth head units. At this point I'm willing to sacrifice any other Now/voice search stuff - so what voice dialer is everyone using?
I only see a few listed in the play store and none seem like the obvious winning choice due to limitations stated in the reviews. My simple requirements:
1) voice dial from names in my contact list.
2) be able to deal with name homophones. For example JB/Google voice search cannot dial my wife because it searches contacts for "Kimberly", but her contact is spelled "Kimberley". I'm not about to edit the spelling on the multiple contacts where this is a problem, especially since ICS, Gingerbread, and even my ancient Blackberry 8100 all handled this fine in stock form.
Finally got myself a bluetooth earpiece that is somewhat comfortable and have discovered that S Voice will not complete a hands free voice dial. I then disabled S Voice and tried using Google Now via Blue Launcher, but that is very unreliable. Vlingo Beta and Speaktoit don't like running behind the swipe lockscreen.
Here is what I want, in order of importance:
Pressing the call button on bluetooth must provide an audible prompt and then complete a voice dial without requiring any touching of the handset (including unlocking).
Audio confirmation of command before performing it.
Searches Nickname in addition to Name in contacts.
Can activate more sophisticated apps like S Voice, Google Now, Speaktoit, etc
Any ideas?
Don't know if its capable but try Robin from the play store

Hi
With HOX ICS I was using a lot of Voice Inputting option through mic icon on the keyboard (mainly for texts and e-mails). I have update the phone today to JB and the mic icon disappeared from the keyboard. In Settings/Language & Keyboard I have under Input types: Google Voice Input and HTC Sense input however Google Voice Input is inactive (I can't see any options).
Google Now was activated and can use Voice Inputing is mic icone is next to search box, Voice search installed.
Do you know what's the problem and how I can get the mic icon back next to the space key on keyboard. I'm using two languages: English UK and Polish. System language is English UK.
Many thanks
I'm not exactly a tower of knowledge with this particular issue but try searching either the web or the play store for a different keypad to the one you have installed, it may resolve the issue. Good luck!
Hi
Thanks for your tip. However this should work without any additional keyboard and this kind of solution I'm looking for.
I google it but I could not find similar case with JB
Edit:
I managed to sort this out using your tip. I installed the JB keyboard fro the store and the mic appeared on the keyboard. then I removed the JB keyboard and all is working now fine and Google Voice Input is now active.
Thanks.
This can be now closed.
Hey dude, same problem. In my case (a vodafone AU user), at first my language setting is Chinese and then English (USA) and google voice input were both inactive. It worked after I chose English (AU). And then even if I turned the language back to Chinese, it's still perfect. I guess it's a little bug in sense
Hi. I used to be able to get my female Ivona text to speech voice speaking my google satnav directions, but not anymore for some reason. How do I get Ivona to connect with the satnav? I think I remember Ivona still speaking my satnav when changing to Jellybean but it's decided to switch to the default male voice. She reads out my calendar appointments so I know the voice actually works. Also, with Gingerbread, the Ivona voice used to randomly swap with a default voice for some bizarre reason, so is Ivona not intended as compatible with google satnav?
I am sure it must be an option, but is it possible for speech to text to work on the Tab S?
i.s I speak my text messages and it types the words for me. I know it works in Google Now, but how about in the other applications, like text messages/facebook etc?
I know my old Desire phone had the option..
I know Swype keyboard has a Dragon speech to text option. I don't know how well it works but it does work with any app.
I think the Google keyboard also has a google voice typing option. Again I don't know how well it works since I never use it.

try the new app Voice Typing Keyboard VTK. it lets you input text anywhere you can with voice. there is no microphone button to push, just say "listen" or "spelling" when in a text field to start dictation. you can move cursor, do editing formatting, insert symbols punctuation etc all with voice too. has an on-screen keyboard too if you need it. since I do most of my typing with voice, so i hide the on-screen keyboard most of the time
