I was running Bonzai 3.0.0 with the amosher gingerbread theme and I just upgraded to Bonzai 3.0.1. I have no THEME installed, just OOTB Bonzai.
Before I upgraded I was able to go to the home screen and add a "picture frame" widget that opened up Gallery or Quickpic (can't remember, I think I had a choice) and i was able to crop a pic to fit on the homescreen.
It was the least that I could do was to get a picture of my wife on my homescreen ... if I have a pic of her ... she doesn't HATE my droid so much. As if.
So, I am unable to do that. The "picture frame" doesn't show up on long press widget on homescreen. I have reinstalled QUICKPIC and that didn't resolve it. I have also searched like a banshee and nobody else is complaining. Is it just me?
Any way to get that back, I wonder?
I had the same problem. You can try installing Gallery from the Market but when I installed a theme it got all fubar 'ed. I don't want Gallery anyway due to the sensor/battery hang.
I installed a picture frame widget from the market and like it better, more options.
what do you recommend which application did you install

Frameme.....but I did have a problem with it cropping/finding the photos. I got it to work but there might
be a better free one. You can install and then uninstall if you don't like your choice.
Found workaround
So - wife got pissed off cause her pictures were gone off my home screen.
So, I decided that I'd try something - I flashed AMOSHER's Honeycomb theme onto the phone and NOW it's back (the picture frame widget).
So, there's something in AMOSHER's theme that brings it back and it's working now. Give that a try and see if it works ... the theme is pretty pimpin' anyway. RESOLVED and wife happy. *sigh*
Download and install Google Search 3.2 with Google Launcher Now
Google has pushed out an update to the Google Search app, which now means there's also an update to the Google Experience Launcher. We've got the APK for you to install below, and this is looking like a substantial update – it looks like the new (and probably official) name for the Google Experience Launcher is Google Now Launcher.
What's New
Google says:
*Bug fixes and performance improvements
We say:
*New Google Now Launcher name with splash screen on start up
*6 columns on tablet home screens (up from 5)
*AirBNB reservations in Google Now
*Fixes disappearing icon in the hotseat bug
*Hotword detection now works in British and Canadian English
*Icon imports from old home screen
(we're still checking it out, might be more to come)
Be aware, you need to have the Google Home stub app installed to see the Google Now Launcher. This branding also doesn't show up on the Nexus 5, which already has the new launcher installed by default.
APK Download
The APK is signed by Google and upgrades your existing app. The cryptographic signature guarantees that the file is safe to install and was not tampered with in any way. Rather than wait for Google to push this download to your devices, which can take days, download and install it just like any other APK.

I don't think it includes a launcher. If you already have GEL installed it will be updated, but it doesn't include one. I uninstalled my GEL launcher before installing this apk, and there was no change on the stock launcher. It wasn't until I installed GEL again that I saw the changes, namely now it's called "Google now launcher". Also the icons are still a bit on the big side. Good upgrade though, thanks!

I got 3.2.17 update in the play store. It didn't include GEL. I had removed the launcher so I added it back. It's now GNL.
"OK Google" works when you have Google now open if you have stock launcher but that is it. You have to have Google now open. For it to work on any home screen, you need to install Google now launcher.
Edit: hot word detection is cool but at the expense of battery. Wow! Idle all night (over 9 hours) and 11% battery gone. Before enabling and adding GNL, is lose about 3% overnight (with everything syncing and location services on).
Edit 2: I disabled hot word detection and battery life is a lot better. The active listening needs to be optimized. It certainly doesn't work as efficiently as it would on the moto x.
I don't see much advantage of GNL over the stock launcher so far.

Newbie here. Installed GEL when I first got my Moto G and it's updated to new Google Now Launcher. However one quirk I notice is widgets don't work with this launcher....is that correct or do I have settings wrong?
I navigate to settings>home> it shows two launchers, one of which is Google Now. When using Google Now, when I flipped through the home screen pages, it only includes my apps and doesn't show any widget screenshots. When I revert back to default Moto G launcher, there are pages of both apps and widgets....
Am I missing something or is this a Moto G thing? Many thanks!

You should try the Nova Beta Launcher is really fast, faster than stock or GEL especially when you disable all animations.
Sent from my XT1034 using Tapatalk
I like nova (and apex, too). Currently still on GNL by I'll probably either go back to stock or maybe nova. But, when warranty either runs out or I get closer to that, I'll root this phone and rom it to death like I have with my last few phones.
I can't believe that I've had this phone for a whole month and haven't rooted it yet. But, I don't feel the need yet. I'm eager to see what happens with this launcher, though. Not so sure about the hit words, though. After all, it's just swipe, tap, to do the same thing.

Black Status Screen Bars on S3
Hi guys.
I've tried this on both my Nexus 7 2013 (Kit Kat 4.4.2) and Galaxy S3 (GT-I9300 with Jelly Bean 4.3).
On the Nexus everything works fine. On the S3, however, I now have a black status bar, instead of a transparent one.
On the sotck launcher (you know, Touchwiz) I already had transparent status bars and I thought the Google Now Laucher had those too, no matter what device you installed it in.
Has this happened to anyone else?
I'm wondering if this is simply how Google has the Pixel launcher weather app set up or if mine is not set up right? As you see in my two screen shots the Pixel launcher shows the sun but the actual Google weather app shows the moon.

It's supposed to. I too have experienced them being out of sync though. I think pulling to refresh the whole Google now screen should update it. Most widgets are not updated in real time but instead in timed intervals. Seems this widget must be the same. I wish they had settings for just the widget so we could set the interval.
Refreshing Google Now doesn't change the icon, the temperature updates but not the icon. Kind of stupid to see a yellow circle when it's pitch black out.

Completely agree with you. I've never seen the moon on mine, only the sun. It's dumb. You wouldn't think it would be that hard to switch the icon according to the time of day.

Had the same thoughts. Glad i wasnt the only one who thought it was annoying
Can anyone confirm if they get the moon at night in the Pixel launcher weather app??
Surely the icon in the wigit is simply indicative of current weather conditions. I already know when it's night time. Glad they didn't waste resources on such a trivial thing personally.

I disagree, I think it shows a lack of attention to detail and I'm pretty sure in the time it took you to respond to this thread the weather widget could have been mapped to the correct icon. Not really sure who's wasting time at this point but thanks for you insight :good:
Well that was an unnecessarily pointed response. This forum used to be a proper, technical forum when I first got into hacking XDAs. Now it seems to be about icons and fighting each others opinions. I'll stick to the technical areas and leave you kids to whine about icons in this section. I'll waste no more of your time with my opinion since opinions seem to be seen as a reason to be rude to each other these days.
Sorry about that. Why don't you write your own weather wigit and share it rather than whining about what you've got.
Jeez this place has changed.
Well, looks like its linked to the google app itself. I am getting the moon to show up in the widget for 2-3 days now following a google pp update via apkmirror. Maybe a server side setting also.
see here.
it appears they are correcting the situation...
This is good to see. I know some people don't care, but as someone else pointed out it showed a lack of attention to detail.

Mine was corrected by the Google update from the Play Store. Now the icons match, but the temperature shown is still a few degrees off from the full screen weather.
mine matches the icon and temperature
My wife's phone just started showing the moon now. Mine still shows the sun. So they seem to be slowly and silently rolling out a fix. She got no update but is on Verizon with Verizon version. I'm on Fi with Google Store version.

Same here. My wife's phone shows the moon but mine still shows the sun. We are both on Build Number NPF26J. I got my phone from Google where she got her phone from Bell Mobility.
Mine wasn't showing the moon either but as soon as I uninstalled the updates to pixel launcher and reinstalled them it shows the moon now. Mine is the Verizon version.
me too
Any way to disable the home screen weather widget? I use a 3rd party widget and it's superfluous and inaccurate because of the source it pulls from.

Can you tell us what time and date app/widget you're using?
Until today, all I had displayed at the top right of my home screen was the day and date. Now after trying to look something up via Maps whilst on the phone, I have weather info with the day and date underneath in a smaller font. Please, please, please can someone tell me how to remove the weather info? I don't want or need it there! I have bog standard, up-to-date Android using the default launcher app. Thanks in advance.

Old thread - new information
If you're rooted ... turn off the Pixel Launcher WeatherUpdate receiver and reboot. Since it never sees the weather info it shows just the date.

Use SD Maid. Others work well but can't think of any at the moment
Also
If you're adventurous, take a look at Evie Launcher - free but not frequently updated. I'm liking the gray transparent search bar and interface options over Pixel. A little old-school, but fits me along with Chronus widget for time/date/weather.
Old thread - new information......
So the latest "incarnation" of my original issue is that using Wi-Fi, I have the data and weather on my home screen. With cell data, I only have the date! This has only been the case since either a Pie patch or a Google app update towards the end of last year.
I still have my Pixel XL with all apps and Pie up-to-date. I also have every notification I can find turned off. Google Assistant, Discover, Location.
It really grates with me that Google refuse to give us all the option of what we can/want to display on our Home screen. It can't be that difficult!

Google is the new Apple. The "our way or the highway" mentality is really getting up there.
I flashed O clean yesterday.
So far so good.
I am noticing though that some widgets dont work and wondered if anyone else is having issues?
Calendar and Keep will not load any info.
Keep is a dark grey box and Cal just says loading.
The apps work otherwise.
Thanks

Bizarre beta behavior
Widgets not working for me either
I'm running O, and I normally use beautiful widgets pro ( for the clock) and it doesn't work. The clock on the widget does not keep time with the phone. I chatted with a google rep. he said it was because I downloaded the beta version. I don't think that's it. I've loaded 3 different clock widgets and none work. Has anyone else had this problem? Thanks

I dont use that app for widgets so i have no experience.
However have you disable battery optimizations on that app or widget?
I dont know how it presents itself but it sounds like it is being put to sleep to save battery which would result in tht sort of performance.
just a thought
I noticed the same thing happening on the Pixel 2 all calendar widgets don't load anything. And if I try to click on them to add calendars they just crash. Funny thing is this doesn't happen with Google calendar

I have the same issue on my Pixel XL in Aviate. The Wunderlist widget only populates on time in ten. Very annoying. Worked fine on my 6P running the same 8.0.
All widgets not working after oreo update
After update of android 8.0 all of my widgets stop working..controls and tine not responding..temperatures weather not updating
Same here.
E.g. I can't find the clock widget or the meteogram widget in my list of widgets.
I run Android 8.1. (Lineage OS) on my Pixel XL.
I'm seeing the same issues. I have a few apps installed that control my Philips Hue lights. Those widgets won't work any more.
