I'm wondering if this is simply how Google has the Pixel launcher weather app set up or if mine is not set up right? As you see in my two screen shots the Pixel launcher shows the sun but the actual Google weather app shows the moon.

It's supposed to. I too have experienced them being out of sync though. I think pulling to refresh the whole Google now screen should update it. Most widgets are not updated in real time but instead in timed intervals. Seems this widget must be the same. I wish they had settings for just the widget so we could set the interval.
Refreshing Google Now doesn't change the icon, the temperature updates but not the icon. Kind of stupid to see a yellow circle when it's pitch black out.

Completely agree with you. I've never seen the moon on mine, only the sun. It's dumb. You wouldn't think it would be that hard to switch the icon according to the time of day.

Had the same thoughts. Glad i wasnt the only one who thought it was annoying
Can anyone confirm if they get the moon at night in the Pixel launcher weather app??
Surely the icon in the wigit is simply indicative of current weather conditions. I already know when it's night time. Glad they didn't waste resources on such a trivial thing personally.

I disagree, I think it shows a lack of attention to detail and I'm pretty sure in the time it took you to respond to this thread the weather widget could have been mapped to the correct icon. Not really sure who's wasting time at this point but thanks for you insight :good:
Well that was an unnecessarily pointed response. This forum used to be a proper, technical forum when I first got into hacking XDAs. Now it seems to be about icons and fighting each others opinions. I'll stick to the technical areas and leave you kids to whine about icons in this section. I'll waste no more of your time with my opinion since opinions seem to be seen as a reason to be rude to each other these days.
Sorry about that. Why don't you write your own weather wigit and share it rather than whining about what you've got.
Jeez this place has changed.
Well, looks like its linked to the google app itself. I am getting the moon to show up in the widget for 2-3 days now following a google pp update via apkmirror. Maybe a server side setting also.
see here.
it appears they are correcting the situation...
This is good to see. I know some people don't care, but as someone else pointed out it showed a lack of attention to detail.

Mine was corrected by the Google update from the Play Store. Now the icons match, but the temperature shown is still a few degrees off from the full screen weather.
mine matches the icon and temperature
My wife's phone just started showing the moon now. Mine still shows the sun. So they seem to be slowly and silently rolling out a fix. She got no update but is on Verizon with Verizon version. I'm on Fi with Google Store version.

Same here. My wife's phone shows the moon but mine still shows the sun. We are both on Build Number NPF26J. I got my phone from Google where she got her phone from Bell Mobility.
Mine wasn't showing the moon either but as soon as I uninstalled the updates to pixel launcher and reinstalled them it shows the moon now. Mine is the Verizon version.

Any way to disable the home screen weather widget? I use a 3rd party widget and it's superfluous and inaccurate because of the source it pulls from.

Can you tell us what time and date app/widget you're using?
Related
Sorry if this has been addressed. Is there a way to remove the date displayed in the upper right corner of the home screen? Thanks for any replies.
It's supposed to be the weather widget, but it looks like you need an update from the play store for pixel launcher, and turn on weather cards. After that it will be a weather widget, that opens google weather when you click it. It's actually pretty good. Not sure if you can get rid of it. It can be date/time or weather.
How do you change the weather back to date and time?

Hi, I have a similar problem with my Pixel 128 (the smaller version). I'm stuck with the Day/Date in the upper right corner on the home screen. I have updated, and uninstalled and reinstalled Pixel Launcher, and restarted the phone. There seems to be no way to make that go away or modify it at all.
My launcher version is 7.1.1-3359438
Any ideas?

why not grab the apk and force update it.
Or/then go to google now (swipe right) and pull down to refresh.
Should change it.
I get date only also. Never seen the weather there, which would be nice.
Swipe to Google now (left) and then pull down to refresh. Then go back to main screen weather should be updated. I have to do this on mine. Hope they fix it.

For those who want just the date, weather can be removed by turning off the WeatherUpdate receiver. No weather info? No weather displayed . Root is required. I used SDMaid but others work just as well.
Until today, all I had displayed at the top right of my home screen was the day and date. Now after trying to look something up via Maps whilst on the phone, I have weather info with the day and date underneath in a smaller font. Please, please, please can someone tell me how to remove the weather info? I don't want or need it there! I have bog standard, up-to-date Android using the default launcher app. Thanks in advance.

If you're adventurous, take a look at Evie Launcher - free but not frequently updated. I'm liking the gray transparent search bar and interface options over Pixel. A little old-school, but fits me along with Chronus widget for time/date/weather.

So the latest "incarnation" of my original issue is that using Wi-Fi, I have the data and weather on my home screen. With cell data, I only have the date! This has only been the case since either a Pie patch or a Google app update towards the end of last year.
I still have my Pixel XL with all apps and Pie up-to-date. I also have every notification I can find turned off. Google Assistant, Discover, Location.
It really grates with me that Google refuse to give us all the option of what we can/want to display on our Home screen. It can't be that difficult!

Google is the new Apple. The "our way or the highway" mentality is really getting up there.
For the life of me, I can't seem to find where to turn on the weather widget on the home screen of my 2 XL. I really like the stock launcher and on online reviews, I see the weather widget sitting next to the calendar widget. However, after trying to find it and conducting research, no dice.
Not sure if it matters, but I do have 1Weather installed and the temperature displaying in my notification shade.
Again, I'm using the stock launcher and just want to be able to see the weather widget sitting next to the calendar widget on the home screen.
Any help would be greatly appreciated!
I came here searching for the same answer.
Weird, every pixel 2 I've seen just has it there by default. Maybe try clearing app data for the launcher?
When I tried out the pixel launcher on my 5x, I could long press the date and it showed options. I think there were 2 check boxes. One for calendar alerts and one for something else. But the weather widget is not part of the launcher so it didn't show. But maybe is for phones that have it installed.

Thanks a TON!!!
This is what fixed it for me "Open the google page to the left and use the hamburger menu and select customize. Select "everything else" at the bottom. Find anything that says weather and set it to yes."
None of the solutions are working for me. I even tried grabbing the Pixel Launcher from APK Mirror (because I can't uninstall or update it in the Play Store ~ system app).
Additionally, I don't see "everything else" at the bottom of my customize section of the Google app.

As far as Nova launcher gotta this is the first time since I've been using Android I'm satisfied, with the stock launcher.
I've been testing out the Pixel 2 Launcher on a different device. You have to enable Location access then search "weather" on your Google Now page. Once it there, try adding the shortcut to your home screen. Go back to your google now feed and refresh it. It should show a small weather bar as the first and it should show the weather on the widget.

No dice on this method; a small weather shortcut is placed on the home screen, but doesn't "shift" into what I've seen on other 2's and 2 XL's. I'm beginning to think there may be a software bug with the launcher. Thanks for the suggestion though!
With that said, surely I am not the only one who is experiencing this small issue. I don't know...

Have you tried refreshing your Google feed after getting your weather? It should look like this. See that small weather bar on the 2ns screenshot? Once that shows up, the weather on the widget does too. Takes a couple of refreshes.

I have all of that stuff checked and its still not appearing. Im at a loss for whats exactly causing it to not show up.
I've only got three widgets of theirs I am using, but the phone constantly warns me a about high battery usage. For God's sake it's not even animated and just shows a clock and the weather forecast.
Anybody run into this?

My battery usage for Beautiful Widgets is 0.3% with 11min active and on for 6hrs 59min.
I use Ace Black Chrome for the clock face and Sence Chrome for the weather Icons. Update weather is set at screen turn on or every 2 hours.
I'll admit, I have been asleep for the last few hours but that doesn't seem high to me.
How often does your weather update as this would be, to my mind (apart from the weather animations and background which are off) the highest hog of battery on my setup.
My signal strength is also good which may affect things too...

Thanks but the app hasn't been updated since 2016. I looked around the app store for about an hour last night and couldn't find anything I liked as much. Do you ever get warnings about Beautiful Widgets using excessive battery? I am on the fence but I may go back to it and try tweaking things more... But still want to keep hunting in the app store first... Would rather not use software from 2016 that is on a device I use so heavily that costed me upwards of $1,500... (10+ 512GB 5G)...

Haven't ever gotten warnings about excessive power usage with beautiful widgets and I've used on all my phones for as long as I can remember...
No problems here...
Just checked again, phones has been on ALL night as I worked backshift and Beautiful Widgets isn't even listed on the battery usage list AT ALL... Phones been on for 10h 36m with 64% battery left, screen on time was 3h 59m.
Battery usage isn't optimised for BW so can't tell you why yours seems to eat up battery...
KWGT is a good way to go. A bit of a learning curve so I suggest watching some youtube videos but once you understand how it works you'll very easily be making some seriously customized home screens. I loved it so much I went ahead and paid for the Pro version after just using it for 30 min.
I had the same thing. The app by default is in the optimizing list of applications for battery savings. To disregard the notifier, in the optimization list, tell the.phone not to try and optimize Beautiful Widgets.
What's going on here is that the phone is putting the app to sleep to save battery, but every now and then, the app wakes up and attempts to update any conditions like weather. The phone doesn't like that it's doing it on its own and thinks it some kind of rogue app, so it warns you.
The Widgets themselves do not drain battery. I have been using this since "Jellybean".
I decided to re-"tweak" Beautiful Widgets and give it a try. Seems to have done the trick, using almost no power at all.
But, I have another problem now - and a very odd one too. The widgets have a display showing the next alarm. It is off by 5 minutes. Meaning, if I set the next alarm for 6 a.m. the widget shows that the alarm is set to go off at 5:55 a.m. but if I set the alarm for 7 a.m. it shows that the alarm is set for 6:55 a.m, and so on. It is always off by 5 minutes. The alarm works well & rings when it should but the widget always shows the alarm is set five minutes before it's actually set.
I did some digging and other people have experienced this problem on Android pie with Samsung phones for any widgets you install that show the time of the next alarm. People have discovered that other applications on the same phone sometimes cause this if they both use the clock. But I have no way of telling which application. Has anybody run into this or heard of this? Wiping the dalvik cache, wiping the cache for beautiful widgets, reinstalling the application blah blah blah all that stuff doesn't make any difference. WTF?

I may have some info here. I saw a note posted by a dev who has a similar app.
He/she stated that newer versions of android changed the api for system clock access and anyone who has widgets needs to update their code.
Not sure if it applies to this situation, but seeing you're referring to the clock/alarms and it's an older app..... It might.
